No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, 8. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can bo inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1877. SCOTTISH POLICE. THEFT BY HOUSEBREAKING. STOLEN, on the night of the 22nd or morning of the 23rd instant, from a dwelling- house in this city, by means of breaking a fan- light window above a back- door :— Six silver tea- spoons, with M. M. engraved thereon ; 4 small old- fashioned silver tea- spoons, marked L. D. M.; 2 silver punch ladles, with handles broken, chased, and a gold coin indented in the bottom of one of them ; 4 large silver gravy spoons; a large silver soup divider; 6 large steel dinner knives, ivory handles; a few small silver French coins, a spade guinea, a gold 7s. piece, an old- fashioned guinea, a gold 5- franc piece, an American gold dollar, a number of Scotch and English silver coins of ancient date; a very old- fashioned gold watch, with raised figures on back, white dial, steel hands, No. ; an old- fashioned silver verge watch, double- cased, with the name Alexander Pitkethly on works, No. ; a plain gold Albert chain, with hook ; a coral brooch and earrings with pendants ; a peeble bracelet linked with gold ; a gold- linked bracelet, with amethyst stone as pendant; an old- fashioned gold Geneva watch, gold dial, gold hnnds, engine- turned cases; an oval- shaped miniature daguerrotype likeness, with gold chased frame, back covered with white velvet, under glass; a silver peeble bracelet, square flat stones ; a black mourning brooch, with twisted frame and small gold leaves, 3 curls of grayish coloured hair inside of glass, and several small pearls; a hair bracelet, with gold clasp set with 3 carbuncles, the hair being of a grayish colour and twisted; a silver bracelet of Indian workmanship, folds in tho shape of a book; a gold brooch with cairngorm stone in centre and border of twisted pattern ; a lady's black velvet jacket ( tight- fitting), irimmed with sable fur, long, black silk lining; 2 ladies' black silk velvet jackets, long,? tight- fitting, trinhnod with Maltese lace; a dark- blue skirt ( silk), a row of buttons down front, small frills round bottom, with folds in front; a French harness plaid, small pine pattern ; a white cashmere plaid, with harness border; a number of pairs of trowsers, sup- posed to have B. S. Muir and Co. on buttons; a number of coats and vests, which cannot be described ; and 2 meerschaum pipes. Police Officers are requested to make particular search and inquiry for above articles at pawnbrokers', coin dealers', and others, and any trace of property or thieves communicated at once to A. DESCRIPTION of the under- mentioned, who is wanted on Warrant charging him with having obtained goods by false pretences from trades- people in Dublin: Charles Doyle, about 32 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, pale complexion, and marked very much about the nose with small- pox; dressed in a dark tweed Derby coat, shabby gray tweed trow- scrs and vest, and round jerry hat; he is a native ; came back from America lately, and said he hsM a return ticket to go back by the steamship Germania. STOLEN from the North- wall, Dublin, on the 17th August, 1877, the following articles, the property of iv passenger, between Holyhead and Dublin, viz.:— A brown leather portmanteau, J. C. on each end, canvas cover, same initials on ends, containing the following articles, viz.— a new dress suit, made by Buckmaster, Dawson- street, a morning suit, a shawl- pattern dressing gown ( red flannel lining), about 8 linen shirts ( 2 fancy), 2 night shirts, 1 pair of merino drawers, 2 silk under vests; the name Buckmaster supposed on inside of collars of coats, orr inside of back straps of vests, on inside of waistbands of trow- sers, and „ nvbuttons of latter; 1 dozen collars, 6 silk and 6 cambric pocket- handkerchiefs, and some silk ties, 1 dressing- case well furnished, 1 pair of London made razors with ivory halts ( 1 of latter split), 1 French razor strop ( maker Eubriel), 1 pair hair- brushes in case, 1 long tortoise- shell comb ( a tooth broken), a large magnifying glass mounted in metal, a small do. mounted in tortoise- shell, a large white ivory double opera- glass, a complete set of ivory teeth ( gold springs), 1 fancy inkstand ( double cover), a Roman Catholic prayerbook ( bound in Russian lea- ther, a cross on cover), several reading essays, books, & c., etc., a silver- mounted cigar case to hold 8 cigars, a brown leather do., about 18 cabinet cigars, and 1 onyx breast- pin, with studs to match. DESCRIPTION of the under- mentioned, who calls him- self Doctor Taylor, and who is wanted, on Warrant charging him with having obtained several sums of money by falsely representing that he was collecting money for an hospital at Damascus:— He is between 30 and 35 years old, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, black hair, heavy black eyebrows, black eyes, black mous- tache, and olive complexion ; dresses generally in dark cloth frock, check trowsers, and round black hat with a feather in band, and occasionally wears a brown overcoat and tall silk hat. He says his father was a Jewish rabbi. Information to the Superintendent, Detective De- partment, Dublin, who holds Warrant for arrest. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. September 21, 1877. ( 1443 R.) DESCRIPTION of a man and woman, names unknown, who are wanted on suspicion of having stolen a cow, which they had in their possession, and offered for sale to a butcher at Bull- alley, between 4 and 5 A. M., on the 10th instant:— The man is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, full face, and fresh complexion; dressed in an old brown frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and soft jerry hat The woman is 30 to 35 years of age, low size, full features, and pale complexion ; wore an old dark straw bonnet and old light colour plaid shawl. Both ran away, leaving the cow behind, when they saw some hesitation about buying her. The cow has been claimed by Mr. Richard Graghan. of Kilmore, Coolock, and was stolen from his lands at that place. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, Aug. 20,1877. DESCRIPTION of James Reynolds, wanted for stealing £ 40 from his master on 14th instant, and absconding:— He is between 17 and 18 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, light blue eyes, marks of boils on side of neck; wore a black cloth jacket, low- crowned hat; speaks with a strong North of Ireland accent; was a page; is a native of Whitehall, Ballymena, county Antrim, where his parents are supposed to reside. Information to the Superintendent, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superintendent's Office, May 15,1877, DESCRIPTION of convict Thomas Boyle ( 2490), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not re- porting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence:— Convicted at Hillsborough, county Down, at Hilary Sessions, on 7th January, 1870, for larceny after previous conviction for felony, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude; 35 years of age on con- viction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, is married and has one child, by calling a dealer, prison trade a weaver; born in Killyman, county Tyrone; he resided before conviction in Belfast; his friends reside in Belfast; black hair, gray eyes, black eyebrows, prominent nose, large mouth, dark com- plexion, oval visage, slender make, 5 feet 5$ inches high; a long cut in the hair over forehead. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on the 6th September, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Liverpool, which place he left without reporting his destination to the Constabulary, and he is suspected of having gone to his wife who lives in or near Belfast. In tho event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 84 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, September 26, 1877. Antrim, who stands charged with having, on 12th June, 1877, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Ardclinis been one of two men who so seriously assaulted James Crawford that he died on the 17th inst. :— Brown eyes, thin nose, dark complexion, full face, stout make," 5 feet 9 inches high, about 36 years of age; wore a soft hat, dark fr> ck coat, dark trowsers and vest, strong Wellington boots; served in the Naval Reserve ; has the appearance of a man who has been at sea, but is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Smith ( mother's surname Iteilly), native of Drumestagh, who stands charged with having, on the 1st day of October, 1877, in the barony of Upper Loughtee, parish of Lavey, en- deavoured to induce a young woman who was pregnant to take drugs for the purpose of procuring abortion :— Slightly pockmarked; blue eyes, sharp nose, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 26 years of age, brown hair, curling under hat, small sandy whiskers, no beard or moustache ; wore a round hat, dark frieze coat, bright cord trowsers and vest. Is supposed to have between £ 80 and £ 40 with him, which he received from his brother, on a division of land to which he had a claim ; is a farmer's son. Ballyjamesduff, Oct. 15, 1877. DESCRIPTION of Bernard Gormley ( mother's sur- name Hanley), native of Tarmon, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1877, in the barony of Castlerahan, parish of Lurgan, seriously assaulted Owen Lynch, by striking him several blows on the head with a stick :— Bed freckled face, down- looking; gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, full, face, stout square make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair and moustache; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, daik trowsprs and vest; is a farmer's son. Warrant for this man's arrest at Ballyjamesduff. Ballyjamesduff, August 17, 1877. ( 140- 14 o.— 24888.) The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Oooladerry, county Cork, K. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1875, in the barony of Coshlen, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle :- J— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout makp, 5. feet 10' iuchos high, about 40 years of age, { lark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. Mitchelstown, March 24, 1875. ( 5182 c.— 9507.) DESCRIPTION of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on tho 30th March, 1876, in the barony of Condonsj and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., an^ Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place:— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 2. Unknown— Fair conjplexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, large sandy whiskers; wore a soft hat, faded cloth coat. Mitchelstown, April 5, 1876. DESCRIPTION of Eliza Comber, native of Youghal, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd October, 1877j in the barony of Barrymore, parish of Clonmel, concealed the birth of her infant child ;— Brown eyes, straight nose, fai^ complexion, short face, n^ ediujn make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 45 years of age, brown htjir; wpre a red plaid shawl, dark dress/ and wore her bonnet on back of her head- A Warrant for her arrest is in the hands of the Sub- Inspector at Queenstown. DESCRIPTION of Michael Waters, native of Tallons- own, county Louth, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of October, 1877, in the barony of Newry, parish of Newry, seriously assaulted his wife, Catherine Waters, thereby endangering her life :— Leans forward when walking; gray eyes, regular noge, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark gray hair, small black beard and whiskers ; wore an old straw hat, brown cloth coat, and moleskin trowsers ; there were marks of blood on his clothes, and the thumb of right hand was severely bitten by the woman in the struggle; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of convict William Hodge ( 2472), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residen. ee :— Convicted at Kanturk, county Cork, at December Sessions, on 31st December, 1872, for housebreaking and robbery, and sentence^ to 5 years' penal servitude; 25 years of age on conyiction, reads and writes badly, is a Protestant, single, by trade a miner, and discharged soldier, 65th Regiment; states hp was born in Bandon, county Cork ( supposed to be untrue, Falmouth is believed to be the place); resided before conviction in Cork; states c^ nnfit tell whether he has any friends alive c> r not; dar| c brown hair, brown eyps, brown eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, sallow complexion, angular visagp, stout make, 5 feet 6f inches high; pocknja, rks on right cheek; W anchor on rigjit arm, an eagle on left a, nu, a bracelet and cnnpi op left \ vrist, and bracelet on right wrist ( all tattoo marks), D. op left breast; lost one upper front tooth- The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on the 20th February, 1877, Qn an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Dublin. This man has been residing in the city of Cork, where he left about the 7th ultimo, without reporting himself, and has not since been heard of. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, October 18, 1877. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Read ( mother's surname Brannagan), native of Tillytown, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of July, 1877, at Shan- ganagh, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Rath- michael, stolen a silver Geneva watch, value £ 2, and who having been bailed to appear at Petty Sessions to answer the charge, failed to do so:— A small scar on right side of mouth ; brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark brpwn hair; wore a black coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a groom. DESCRIPTION of a heifer, the property of Martin Devine, of Creenully, supposed to have been stolen from the fair of Ballygar, parish of Killeroran, barony pf Killian, on the 18th day of October. 1877:— A &- yohr old heifer, yellow colour, a white spot on right hip, with a short tail, and one horn • Slightly drooped, and value for about £ 7. Coleman Conneely native of Letterard, who stands . charged with having, on the { L4th October, 1877, in the barony of Ballinahinch, parish of Moyrus, seriously assaulted Patrick King, Kerry. John Sullivan ( escaped lunatic) Hue- and- Cry, 25th May, 1877. not arrested; Kildare. DESCRIPTION of Pat. Sheil, alias Ryan, supposed to bo a native of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 11th September, 1877, in tho barony of West Narragh and Reban, parish of Churchtown, stolen 2 heifers and 1 bullock, the property of Mrs. Maria Crawley :— Has lost nearly all his back teeth; has a grinning expression when speaking; has a loose swinging gait; gray eyos, large hooked nose, sallow complexion, long withered face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 48 years of ago, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache ; wore a brown faded frieze frook coat, cord trowsers, tweed vest; is a ploughman, and frequents low lodging- houses. DESCRIPTION of 3 head of cattle, the property of Mrs. Maria Crawley, which were stolen off her land, in the barony of West Narragh and Reban, parish of Churchtown, on the 11th or morning of the 12th September, 1877, viz.:— Two heifers, 2 years old, Strawberry colour, value for about £ 13 each; 1 bullock, 2 years old, red and white colour, right, horn turned inwards, value for about £ 13. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Nicholson, native of Wales, who stands charged with haying, on the 13th day of October, 1877, in the barony of South Naas, parish of Connell, stolen 5 pieces of cloth and a silk dross, in a bass, value about £ 5, the property of John Douney, pedlar:— Slight halt, and stutters; large dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age. Purcell, pativp pf Dublin, who stands charged with havjng, on the 18th September, 1877, at Newbridge, in the barony qf Connell, parish of Morristownbiller, obtained the sum of £ 3 by false pretences from the Troop Sergeant- Major, Sth Dragoon Guards ;— Brown hair; wears a tpoustache and very small whiskers; hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium pake, 5 feet 9 J inches high, ahout 32 years of age ; wore a low hat, tweecj coat, trowsers, and v. est ( the tweed is light mixed with red) ; he has a military appearance, having recently deserted from the 16th Lancers, in which he was Sergeant- Major; is known in some of the Dublin Military Barracks. The unknown person ( cattle stealing) npt arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th March, 1877. Kilkenny. DESCRIPTION of 9 head of cattlp. the PROPERTY of Michael Ryan, which were stolen from the lands of Killamory, parish of Killamory, ip the barony of Kells, on the night of tne 23rd of October, 1877 :— Two gray heifers, years old; 2 red and white heifers, of same age; 1 white h. cjfcf with red oars, same age; and each of the 5 value for £ 15. Two heifers, I ^ years old, rjed and white colour; 1% years old, of the 4 value for £ 8. and 2 bullocks, J gray colour; and each The brand impressed on horns last year were tho initials M.
