During^ he night of 12th instant, some person set fire to a hovel, containing a quantity oi straw, at Essington, the property of Mr. George Phillips. Stolen from the marshes adjoining the river Thames, at Stone, during the night of 20th instant : a Kent Teg Sheep, maiked with the letter ' S' in pitch on near side of rump' but nearly obliterated. Description of JOHN WATERS, charged with stealing 7 Sheep, and 2 Cows, recovered, on 4th and 31 at August la>> t, the property of John George Marsh : he is a butcher, and a native of Leeds, 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, rather slender built, grey eyes, dark brown hair, light moustache, which may have beon shaved off, pale or sallow complexion, badly ruptured, walks erect, and rather good looking ; generally dressed in tight fitting trousers, and long coat, such as are worn by butchers and cattle dealers. He has been in business in Chesterfield about 15 years, but has recently resided in Nottingham, and is well known amongst butchers, cattle dealers, and drovers, with the lower class of which he generally associates. He is a batting man, and occasionally attends race meetings, A reward of £ 10 will be paid for his apprehension. Information to ba given to Mr. Superinten- dent Carline, County Police Office, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, who hcdds a warrant for his arrest. - Bow- street, October 24. Eound at Easington on 17th instant, supposed stolen : an old black Mare, 15 hands high, white hind feet, star on forehead, small white streak down nose, grey over eyes, and in low condition. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Hill, Brownhills, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 22. Absconded from Tadcaster, clarged with stealing tbiity- two Lambs from Newton- Kyme, on the night e£ 17th ina'e.: a man giving the name of PARK, who sold the lambs to a butcher at Lteds, but decamped before receivirg any money. From 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and ba; r, very dark whiskers, turning grey, had the appearance of a farmer, very intelligent, of good address, and stammers a little when speaking ; dressed in dark check coat, and were a scarf, with stripe running across so as to form a large plaid. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Kane, West Riding Constabulary, Tadeaster.— Bow- street, October 22. Stolen from a fie d at Midsomer Norton, during the night of 14th instant: a dark brown Irish Horse, rising 3 years old, about 15 har. ds high, off hind fetlock white. In- formation to be given to Sergeant Tucker, Somerset Con- stabulary, Midsomer Norton.— Bow- street, October 19. Absconded from Coventry, charged with stealirg a Horse and Gig, recovered, the property of Mr. Field, 148, Belgrave- road, Birmingham, on 4th instant: a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, stout build, dark whiskers and moustache, inclined sandy, of smart appearance ; dressed in black ribbed vest and jacket, pockets on hips, light checked trousirs, old high silk hat, gold Guard, with white Stal attached. He obtained the Horse and Gig by representing himself to be EDMUND PALMER, a com- mercial traveller, and drove at once to Coventry, at which place he disposed of the property. Information to be given to Head Constable Norris, Coventry, Warwick, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- t- treet, October 17. Description of GEORGE WOOLLETT, charged on warrant with stealing a Pony, recovered, the property of J. Butler, at Shadoxhurst, Kent, on 27th ultimo : he is 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, few light or sandy whiskers on sides of face and chin, bad a piece of rag on oii^ Soger of right hand ; dressed in light worsted cord trousers, light cost, black billycock hat; has the appearance of a farmer's son, and is likely to be found at cattle markets or fa; ra. Absconded from Margate on 15th instant, < barged on a warrant with stealing : a blue cloth Jacket ( velvet collar), Trousers, and Vest, a black billyeock Hat, and a lady's new black cloth Jacket trimmed with black fur— CHARLES PEIRCE, 31 years of 5 feet 6f inches high, freBh com- plexion, brown hair, ana grey eyes ; dressed in the first por- tion of the stolen clothes and military shoes; he is a deserter from the 3rd Buffs at Canterbury, and a labourer. Informa- tion to be given to Head Constable Romanis, Margate, Kent, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 26, Stolen on 21st ultimo, from 3, Campbell- terrace, Brook- hill- road, Woolwih: a round- shaped gold Brooch, two prince of Wales' feathers thereon; two lady's dress Rings, one set with five Cornelian stones, one set with five pearls ; a pair of oval- shaped gold Ear- rings ; and a green morocco Purse, containing live Sovereigns, By a man who took lodgings and stated he wss a military student: he is 18 yra. of age, S feet 1 inch high, fair complexion and hair, and thin face ; dressed in dark clothe?, and black hard felt hat.— — Metropolitan Police, R Division, October 26, Stolen from a dwelling- house at Warrington, at 8 30 a. m. on 23rd instant: a silver Geneva Watch, ' Ernest'on dial, a brass Albert Guard and a steel Guard attached ; also a long silver Watch Guard ; and 7s. 6d. in Money, By a man, who had lodged there a short time, named JOHN WILLIAM HEMMINGWAY, a painter by tiaie, 31 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light complexion, sandy mous- tache and beard, cut centre of forehead ; dressed in plaid tiousers, dark tweed coat, and black billycock hat. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Lancashire.— Bm stnet, October 26. Absconded from Colchester, on 15th instant, ctavged with embezzling £ 38 18s, the monies of his master Benjamin Baxter, grocer and army contractor: ROBERT ADaMS, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, rather stout, dark brown hair, slight moustache and whiskers, cbin shaved in line with moustache ; dressed in black cloth coat, brown trousers with stripes, a common blue- Mask Irish tweed ulster coat, quite new, with band and bone buttons, and round hard felt hat; he is a discharged soldier, and formerly travelled with Gennett's circus company, it is expected that he will again seek employment with some travelling circus. Description of THOMAS HOLLOWAY, alias E, | BROWNING, who absconded on 21st instant, from j Gloucester, charged on a watrant with stealing a hair Btush , and a quantity of plated Forks, Spoons, and Egg Cups; he is 23 years of age, 5 feet 4f inches higb, brown bair, no whiskers, fair complexion, and pockpitted ; dressed in black bowler hat, light grey tweed jacket, dark striped ve3t and trousers, elastic side boots, small red necktie and collar. Has been an officer's servant in the South Gloucester Militia.
