No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; hut it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- Gcncral. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be insorted in the Hue- and- Cry. DESCRIPTION of the under- mentioned, who is wanted oil Warrant charging him with having obtained goods by false pretences from trades- people in Dublin :— Charles Doyle, about 32 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, pale complexion, and marked very much about the nose with small- pox; dressed in a dark tweed Derby coat, shabby gray tweed trow- sers and vest, and round jerry hat; he is a native ; came back from America lately, and said he had a return ticket to go back by the steamship Germania. Information to the Superintendent of the Detective Department, 3, Exchange- court, Dublin, who holds Warrant. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Dublin, October 13, 1877. ( R. 1650.) STOLEN from the North- wall, Dublin, on the 17th August, 1877, the following articles, the property of a passenger, between Holyhead and Dublin, viz.":— A bro\ yn leather portmanteau, J. C. on each end, canvas cover, same initials on ends, containing the following articles, viz.— a new dress suit, made by Buckmaster, Dawson- street, a morning suit, a shawl- pattern dressing gown ( red flannel lining), about 8 linen shirts ( 2 fancy), 2 night shirts, 1 pair of merino drawers, 2 silk under- vests; the name Buckmaster supposed on inside of collars of coats, on inside of back straps of vests, on inside of waistbands of trow- sers, and on buttons of latter; I dozen collars, 6 silk and 6 cambric pocket- handkerchiefs, and some silk ties, 1 dressing- case well furnished, 1 pair of London made razors with ivory hafts ( I of latter split), 1 French razor strop ( maker Eubriel), 1 pair hair- brushes in case, 1 long tortoise- shell comb ( a tooth broken), a large magnifying glass mounted in metal, a small do. mounted in tortoise- shell, a large white ivory double opera- glass, a complete set of ivory teeth ( gold springs), 1 fancy inkstand ( double cover), a Roman Catholic prayerbook ( bound in Russian lea- ther, a cross on cover), several reading essays, books, . fee., & c., a silver- mounted cigar c* se to hold 8 cigars, a brown leathor do., about 18 cabinet cigars, and 1 onyx breast- pin, with studs to match. DESCRIPTION of the under- mentioned, who calls him- self Doctor Taylor, and who is wanted, on Warrant charging him with having obtained several sums of money by falsely representing that he was collecting money for an hospital at Damascus :— He is between 30 and 35 years old, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, black hair, heavy black eyebrows, black eyes, black mous- tache, and olive complexion ; dresses generally in dark cloth frock, check trowsers, and round black hat with a feather in band, and occasionally wears a brown overcoat and tall silk hat. He says his father was a Jewish rabbi. Information to the Superintendent, Detective De- partment, Dublin, who holds Warrant for arrest. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. September 21, 1877. ( 1443 R.) DESCRIPTION of a man and woman, names unknown, who are wanted on suspicion of having stolen a cow, \ Vhich they had in their possession, an< J offered for salo to a butcher at Bull- alley, between 4 and 5 A. M., on the 10th instant:— The man is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in an old brown frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and ' soft jerry hat The woman is 30 to 35 years of age, low size, full features, and pale complexion ; wore an old dark straw bonnet and old light colour plaid shawl. Both ran away, leaving the cow behind, when they saw some hesitation about buying her. The cow has been claimed by Mr. Richard Graghan. of Kilmore, Coolock, and was stolen from his lands at that place. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, Aug. 20,1877. DESCRIPTION of James Reynolds, wanted for stealing £ 40 from his master on 14th instant, and absconding:— He is between 17 and 18 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, light blue eyes, marks of boils on side of neck; wore a black cloth jacket, low- crowned hat; speaks with a strong North of Ireland accent; was a page ; is a native of Whitehall, Ballymena, county Antrim, where his parents are supposed to reside. Information to the Superintendent, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. /. Superintendent's Office, May 15,1877. DESCRIPTION of convict Thomas Boyle ( 2490), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not re- porting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence:— Convicted at F1 illsborougli, county Down, at Hilary Sessions, on 7th January, 1870, for larceny after previous conviction for felony, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude; 35 years of age on con- viction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, is married and has one child, by calling a dealer, prison trade a weaver ; born in Killyman. county Tyrone; he resided before conviction in Belfast; his friends reside in Belfast; black hair, gray eyes, black eyebrows, prominent nose, large mouth, dark com- plexion, oval visage, slender make, 5 feet 5| inches high; a long cut in the hair over forehead. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on the 6th September, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Liverpool, which place he left without reporting his destination to the Constabulary, and he is suspected of having gone to his wi e who lives in or near Belfast. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, September 26, 1877. Antrim, who stands charged with having, on I2tli June, 1877, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Ardclinis been one of two men who so seriously assaulted James Crawford that he died on the 17th inst. :— Brown eyes, thin nose, dark complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 36 years of age; wore a soft hat, dark frock coat, dark trowsers and vest, strong Wellington boots; served in the Naval Reserve ; has the appearance of a man who has been at sea, but is a farmer. Belfast. Edward Hughes ( failing to report himself) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 9th October, 1877, John Magee ( intimidation) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th July, 1877. Patrick Laughran ( convict, who failed to report himself to the Police), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 17th July, 1877. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Smith ( mother's surname Reilly), native of Drumestagh, who stands charged with having. on the 1st day of October. 1877, in tho barony of Upper Loughtee, parish of Lavey, en- deavoured to induce a young woman who was pregnant to take drugs for the purpose of procuring abortion :— Slightly pockmarked; blue eyes, sharp nose, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 26 years of age, brown hair, curling under hat, small sandy whiskers, no beard or moustache ; wore around hat, dark frieze coat, bright cord trowsers and vest. Is supposed to have between £ 30 and £ 10 with him. which he received from his brother, on a division of laDd to which he had a claim ; is a farmer's son. Ballyjamesduff, Oct. 15, 1877. DESCRIPTION of Bernard Gormley ( mother's sur- name Hanley), native of Tarmon, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1877, in the barony of Castlerahan, parish of Lurgan, seriously assaulted Owen Lynch, by striking him several blows on the head with a stick :— Red freckled face, down- looking; gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, full face, stout square make, 5 feet 10 iflches h: gh, about 30 years of age, sandy hair and moustache; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, daik trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1875, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, OCTOBER 19, 1877. agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. Mitchelstown, March 24, 1875. (- 5182 o.— 9507.) DEscripTiON of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place:— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 85 years of age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 2. Unknown— Fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, large sandy whiskers; wore a soft hat, faded cloth coat. Mitchelstown, April 5, 1876. DESCRIPTION of Robert Anderson, native of Drum- nagally, near Banbridge, who stands charged with having, on or about the 15th and 29th September, 1877, in the barony of lower Iveagh, parish of Blaris, embezzled several sums of money, the property of. his employers, " The Hillsborough Linen Company ( Limited) ":— Holds his head down when walking; dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair, small, dark whiskers and moustache; wore a low hat, gray frock coat, trowsers, and vest. Is a clerk. A Warrant has been issued for his arrest. Banbridge, Oct, 14, 1877. ( 14700 c 25933.) DESCRIPTION of Michael Waters, native of Tallons- own, county Louth, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day pf October, 1877, in the barony of Nowry, parish of Newry, seriously assaulted his wife, Catherine Waters, thereby endangering her life :— Leans forward when walking; gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark gray hair, sinfill black beard and whiskers; wore an old straw hat, brown cloth ooat, and moleskin trowsers ; there were marks of blood on his clothes, and the thumb of right hand was severely bitten by the woman in the struggle; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of James Murphy, native of Carrick- broad, near Forkhill, county Armagh, who stands chargqd with having, on the 21st Septetnber, 1877, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Seapatrick, seriously assaulted Thomas Reavey, so as to endanger his lif6:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, pale face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of ago, fair hair ; wore a cap, dark frock coat, moleskin trowsers ; is a labourer. Banbridge, Sept. 25, 1877. ( 14444 c 25533.) The horse, and harness, the property of James Graham, described in Hue- and- Cry of 5th October, have been discovered, and restored to him. Gilbert M'Ilurick ( embezzlement) not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry 4th May, 1877. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of convict William Hodge ( 2472)> who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence:— Convicted at Kanturk, county Cork, at December Sessions, on 3Jst December, 1872, for housebreaking and robbery, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 25 year's of age on conviction, reads and writes badly, is a Protestant, single, by trade a miner, and discharged soldier, 65th Regiment; states Be was born in Bandon, county Cork ( supposed to bo untrue, Falmouth is believed to be the place); resided before conviction in . Cork; states he cannot tell whether ho has any friends alive or not; dark brown hair, brown eyes, brojyp eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, sallow complexion, angular visage, stout make, 5 feet Of inches high; pockmarks on right check; an anchor on right arm, an eagle 011 left arm, a bracelet and crown on left wrist, and bracelet on right wrist fall tattoo marks), D. on left breast; lost one upper front tooth. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on the 20th February, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Dublin. This man has been residing in tho city of Cork, where he left about the 7th ultimo, without reporting himself, and has not since been heard of. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, October 18, 1877. DESCRIPTION of John Little, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the Gtli Septem- ber, 1877 at Killenarden, in the barony of Upper- cross, parish of Tallaght, stolen a trowsers and hat, value for 15s., which have since been recovered:— Bow legged, walks stiff, flat feet, down- looking, no whiskers; hooked nose, fail' complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a black cap, brown coat, old dirty trowsers, tweed vest. Tramps about the country and frequents dance- houses ; is a labourer. Dundrum, Sept. 11, 1877. ( 14318 c— 25322,) DESCRIPTION of James Reilly ( mother's surname Reilly), native of Firhouse, who stands charged with having, on the 5th August, 1877, at Knocklyon, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, criminally assaulted a girl 11 years of age:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, high cheek bones, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches i high, about 19 or 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft brown hat, dark coat and vest, laced Blucher boots ; sullen in manners ; is a blacksmith, Dundrum, August 7, 1877. ( 13935 c.— 24709.) Kilkenny. DESCRIPTION of George Kerr, native of Edinburgh, who stands charged with having, on the 9th Aiurust, 1877, in the barony of Kilkenny, parish of St. . Pin, deserted, stealing from the quarters of Lieut. Robert Brady, R. A., a £ 5 and 4 £ 1 notes from a drawer, also a suit of dark tweed clothes:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, rifedium make, 5 feet inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a gunner in the Royal Artillery and officer's servant, also French polisher. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Read ( mother's surname Brannagan), native of Tillytown, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of July, 1877, at Shan- ganagh, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Rath- michael. stolen a silver Geneva watch, value £ 2, and 1 who having been bailed to appear at Petty Sessions to j answer tho charge, failed to do so:— A small scar on right side of mouth ; brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a black coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a groom. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Flaherty, alias William Henry Ford, who stands charged with having, on the 12th October, 1877, in the barony of Limerick, parish of St. John, escaped from the Limerick Lunatic Asylum, he being a criminal lunatic:— Gray eyes, aquiline nose, pallid complexion, peculiarly careworn expression of face, stooped make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about; 40ydars of age, sandy hair; wore a tweed suit, buttons marked Limerick District Asylum ; friends reside in America. DESCRIPTION of Robert Walsh, native of Killinane, who stands charged with having, on the 1st Sep- tember, 1877, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, committed rape :— Bow- legged, and turns in his toes when walking; blue or gray eyes, thick drooped nose, fresh complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 27 years of age, light brown hair ; wore a furry cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Nicholson, native of Wales, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of October, 1877,. in the barony of South Naas, parish of Connell, stolen 5 pieces of cloth and a silk dress, in a bass, value about £ 5, the property of John Douney, pedlar:— Slight halt, and stutters; large dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Coushen or Cousin, native of Illaunmeen, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, 1877, in tho barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, seriously assaulted Edward M'Grath, game- keeper to Lieut.- Colonel Massy :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, freckled face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years, of age, fair hair, light moustache ; wore a hard round black hat, coarse dark tweed coat, dark tw& fed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of John Grady ( mother's surname Mary Cleary), native of Ardkilmartin, who stands charged with having, on the 10th July, 1877, in the barony of Liberties of Kilmallock, parish of Saint Peter and Paul, committed an indecent assault:— Very brown eyes,, long thin nose, sallow complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair, has small black whiskers, and shaves his chin, wore a jerry I hat, blue frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest; ' is a labourer. Kilfinane, July 19, 1877. ( 13686 c.— 24283.) DESCRIPTION of Edmond F. Purcell, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 18th September, 1877, at Newbridge, in the barony of Connell, parish of Morristownbiller, obtained the sum of £ 3 by false pretences from the Troop Sergeant- Major, 5th Dragoon Guards :— Brown hair; wears a moustache and- very small whiskers; hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9J inches high, about 32 years of age ; wore a low hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest ( the tweed is light, mixed with red) ; he lias a military appearance, having recently deserted from the 16th LancerS, in which he was Sergeant- Major; is known in tae of the Dublin Military Barracks. Two unknown persons ( malicious injury) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd March, 1877. Londonderry. DESOBIPTION of John Connell, native of KilhOyle, who stands charged with having, on the 24th day of May, 1877, in the barony of Keenaght, parish Of Balteagh, assaulted Henry Kelly, junior, of Kilhoyle, by striking him on the head with a stone and kicking nim on the body, from the effects of which he died 011 the 10th inst.:— Old cut- marks on face; blue eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, round face, stout maka » 5 feet 7 inches high, about 37 years of age, red hair; wore a soft round hat, it is supposed dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. A Warrant is in the hands of the Constabulary at Limavady for his arrest. Limavady, June 12,1877. ( 1& 177 c.— 23658. Clara, county cavan, and John- Rudden, native of drum- Condra, county Cavan, who stand charged, with having, on the 29th March, 1877, in the barony of Dartree, parish of Currin, been of a party ( two of whom are in custody) who assaulted Patrick Brides, of Knox, at Corrackan, and inflicted wounds oh him from " which he has since died :— 1. Michael Reilly— Holds down his head when walking, and has a slouching gait; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a jerry hat, dark coat, cord trowsers, dark vest; is a small farmer. 2. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hunt, ( mother's surname Quigley,) native of Knockgranagh, who stands charged with having, on the 29th November, ult., in the barony of Leyny, parish of Achonry, murdered John M'Gloin, by fracturing his skull with a large stone :— Down- looking appearance, two upper front teeth large and prominent, high cheek bones, large heavy lips, sunken jaws, very broad shoulders; it is also stated that Hunt's left wrist is tattooed; glaring black eyes, slightly cocked nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make; 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, black hair; small dark moustache ; wore a • dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest. Was in America, and lately returned from England, where he worked as a labourer. Has a pair of English- made navvy boots with iron plates under toeg, also a pair of light Wellington boots.
