No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1877. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. STOLEN from the North- wall, Dublin, on the 17th August, 1877, the following articles, the property of a passenger, between Holyhead and Dublin, viz. :— A brown leather portmanteau, J. C. on each end, canvas cover, same initials on ends, containing the following articles, viz — a new dress suit, made by Buckmaster, Dawson- street, a morning suit, a shawl- pattern dressing gown ( red flannel lining), about 8 linen shirts ( 9 fancy), 2 night shirts, 1 pair of merino drawers, 2 silk under- vests; the name Buckmaster supposed on inside of collars of coats, on inside of back straps of vests, on inside of waistbands of trow- sers, and oil buttons, of latter: 1 dozen collars, 6 silk and 6 cambric pocket handkerchiefs, and some silk ties, 1 dressing- case welt furnished, J pair of London . made razois with ivory halts ( t of latter split), 1 French razor strop ( maker Eubriel), 1 pair hair- brushes in case, 1 long tortoise- shell comb ( a tooth broken), a large magnifying glass mounted in metal, a small do. mounted in tortoise- shell, a large white ivory double opera- glass, a complete set of ivory teeth ( gold springs), 1 fancy inkstand ( double cover), a Roman Catholic prayerbook ( bound in Russian lea- ther, a cross on cover), several reading essays, books, < fcc., & c., a silver- mounted cigar case to hold 8 cigars, a brown leather do., about 18 cabinet cigars, and 1 onyx breast- pin, with studs to match. DESCRIPTION of the under- mentioned, who calls him- self Doctor Taylor, and who is wanted, on Warrant charging him with having obtained several sums of money by falsely representing that he was collecting money for an hospital at Damascus:— He is between 30 ana 85 years old, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, black hair, heavy black eyebrows, black eyes, black mous- tache, and olive complexion ; dresses generally in dark cloth frock, check trowsers, and round black hat with a feather in band, and occasionally wears a brown overcoat and tall silk bat. He says his father was a Jewish rabbi. Information to the Superintendent, Detective De- partment, Dublin, who holds Warrant for arrest. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. September 21, 1877. ( I 143 p.) DESCRIPTION of a man and woman, names unknown, who are wanted on suspicion of having stolen a cow, which they had in their possession, and offered tor sale to a butcher at Bull- alley, between 4 and 5 A. M., on the 10th instant:— The man is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in an old brown frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and soft jerry hat. The woman is 80 to 85 years of age, low size, full features, and pale complexion ; wore an old dark straw bonnet and old light colour plaid shawl. Both ran away, leaving the cow behind, when they saw some hesitation about buying her. The cow has been claimed by Mr. Richard Graghan. of Kilmore, Coolock, and was stol^ ji from his lands at that place. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, Aug. 20,1877. DESCRIPTION of James Reynolds, wanted for Sling £ 40 from his master on 14th instant, and onding:— He is between 17 and 18 years of about 6 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, light blue eyes, marks of boils on side of neck ; wore a black cloth jacket, low- crowned hat; speaks with a strong North of Ireland accent; was a page ; is a native of Whitehall, Ballymena, county Antrim, where his parents are supposed to reside. Information to the Superintendent, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superintendent's Office, May 15, 1877. DESCRIPTION of convict Thomas Boyle ( 2490), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not re- porting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence:— Convicted at Hillsborough, county Down, at Hilary Sessions, on 7th January, 1870, for larceny after previous conviction for felon}', and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude: 35 years of age on con- viction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, is married and has one child, by calling a dealer, prison trade a weaver; born in Killyman, county Tyrone; he resided before conviction in Belfast; his friends reside in Belfast; black hair, gray eyes, black eyebrows, prominent nose, large mouth, dark com- plexionj oval visage, slender make, 5 feet 5J inches high; a long cut in tho hair over forehead. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on the 6th September, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Liverpool, which place he left without reporting his destination to the Constabulary, and he is suspected of having gone to his wi'e who lives in or near Belfast. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, September 26, 1877. Antrim, who stands charged with having, on 12th June, 1877, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Ardclinis, been one of two men who so seriously assaulted James Crawford that he died on the 17th inst. :— Brown eves, thin nose, dark complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet, 9 inches high, about 36 years of age; wore a soft hat, dark fr. ck coat, dark trowsers and vest, strong Wellington boots; served in the Naval Reserve ; has the appearance of a man who has been at sea, but is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Bernard Gormley ( mother's sur- name Hanley), native of Tarmon, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1877, in the barony of Castlerahan, parish of Lurgan, seiiously assaulted Owen Lynch, by striking him several blows on the head with a stick :— Red freckled face, down- looking; gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, full face, stout square make, 5 feet 10 inches h gh, about 30 yea< s of age, sandy hair a'd moustache; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, daik trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of a heifer, the property of Terence O'Dea, which was stolen from the lands of Leminagh, parish of Kilnaboy, barony of Inchiquin, on the 9th day of October, 187 7 :— years old, red and white colour, white forehead, round thick horns, fair size and condition, and value for £ 8 10 « . Ballyvaughan, Oct. 12, 1877. ( 14689 c.— 25912.) DESCRIPTION of a greyhound dog, the property of the Rev. Henry Lopdell, of Gortna, county Tipperary, which was stolen from him in Killaloe on the 20th September, 1877 :— An unusually large dog, dark yellow colour, and in poor condition ; answers to the name of Rock, and is about nine or ten years old. DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Cooladerry, county Cork, E. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1875, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. DESCRIPTION of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 80th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place:— 1. DESCRIPTION of Robert Anderson, native of Drum- nagally, near Banbridge, who stands charged with having, on or about the 15tli and 20th September, 1877, in the barony of Lower Iveagh, parish of Blaris, embezzled several sums of money, the property of his employers, " The Hillsborough Linen Company ( Limited) — IIold a Lis head down when walking; dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair, small dark whiskers and moustache; wore a low hat, gray frock coat, trowsers, and vest. Is a clerk. A Warrant has been issued i'or his arrest. Banbridge, Oct. 14, 1877. ( 14700 c._ 25983.) DESCRIPTION of Michael Waters, native of Tallons- own, county Louth, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of October, 1877, in the barony of Newry, parish of Newry, seriously assaulted his wife, Catherine Waters, thereby endangering her life :— Leans forward when walking; gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark gray hair, small black beard and whiskers; wore an old straw hat, brown cloth coat, and moleskin trowsers ; there were marks of blood on his clothes, and the thumb of right hand was severely bitten by the woman in the struggle; is a labourer. A Warrant is in the hands of the Constabulary at Mayobridge for his arrest. Rathfriland, Oct. 10, 1877. ( 14660 c.— 25863.) DESCRIPTION of James Murphy, native of Carrick- broad, near Forkhill, county Armagh, who stands charged with having, on the 21st September, 1877, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Seapatrick, seriously assaulted Thomas Keavey, so as to endanger his life:-- Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, pale face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20. years of age, fair hair ; wore a cap, dark frock coat, moleskin trowsers ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of convict Daniel Martin ( 13772), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not feporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence :— Oonvir- fed at Wicklow, county Wicklow, at Hilary Session^, on 4th January, 1872, for house- breaking, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude; 48 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, by trade a tailor; bom in Delgany, county Wicklow; resided before conviction' at Newcastle, county Wicklow; his friends reside about Dublin; gray hair, brown eyes, light brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fresh com- plexion, round visage, average make, 5 feet 6 inches high; lost several teeth out of each side of upper jaw; scrofula marks on right side of neck; " A. D. " on left side ; a large mole on left arm between elbow and shoulder. The above- named convict was released from Spike Island Prison, on an order of licence, on the 3rd of July, 1877. The Constabulary at Bray reports that he left his residence there on the 6th instant without notifying same to the Policy, arid has not since been heard of. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, September 13, 1877. ( 14818 25322,) DESCRIPTION of James Reilly ( mother's surname Reilly), native of Firhouse, who stands charged with' having,' on the 5th August, 1877, at Knocklyon, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, criminally assaulted a girl 11 years of age:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, high cheek bones, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 or 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft brown hat, dark coat and vest, laced Blucher boots ; sullen in manners ; is a blacksmith, Dundrum, August 7, 1877. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Read ( mother's surname Brannagan), native of Tillytown, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of July, 1877, at Shan- ganagh, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Rath- michael, stolen a silver Geneva watch, value £ 2, and who having been bailed to appear at Petty Sessions to answer the charge, failed to do so:— A small scar on right side of mouth ; brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a black coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a groom. Purcell, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 18th September, 1877, at Newbridge, in the barony of Connell, parish of Morristownbiller, obtained the sum of £' d by false pretences from the Troop Sergeant- Major, 5th Dragoon Guards :— Brown hair; wears a moustache and very small whiskers; hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9| inches high, about 32 years of age ; wore a low hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest ( the tweed is light, mixed with red) ; he has a military appearance, having recently deserted from the 16th Lancers, in which he \ yas Sergeant- Major; is known in some of the Dublin Military Barracks. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Flaherty, alias William Henry Ford, who stands charged with having, on the 12tli October, 1877, in the barony of Limerick, parish of St. John, escaped from the Limerick Lunatic Asylum, he being a criminal lunatic:— Gray eyes, aquiline nose, pallid complexion, peculiarly careworn expression of face, stooped make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 40 years of age, sandy hair; wore a tweed suit, buttons marked Limerick District Asylum ; friends reside in America. DESCRIPTION of Robert Walsh, native of Killinane, who stands charged with having, on the 1st Sep- tember, 1877, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, committed rape :— Bow- legged, and turns in his toes when walking; blue or gray eyes, thick drooped nose, fresh complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 27 years of age, light brown hair; wore a furry cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. J DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Coushen or Cousin » native of Illaunmeen, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, 1877, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, seriously assaulted Edward M'Grath, game- keeper to Lieut.- Colonel Massy :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, freckled face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair, light moustache ; wore a hard round black hat, coarse dark tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of George Kerr, native of Edinburgh, who stands charged with having, on the 9th August, 1877, in the barony of Kilkenny, parish of St. John, deserted, stealing from the quarters of Lieut. Robert Brady, R. A., a £ 5 and 4 £ 1 notes from a drawer, also a suit of dark tweed clothes:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet inches high, about 28 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a gunner in the Royal Artillery and officer's servant, also French polisher. DESCRIPTION of the under- named young offender, who, on thel7th September, 1877, absconded from the St. Conleth's Reformatory School at Philipstown :— Patrick Sheehan, No. 538, 15 years of age, 5 feet | inch high, strong make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ( right eye, half brown, half blue), regular nose, regular mouth, round visage ; formerly belonged to Ballysimon, county Limerick. His father is dead; his stepfather, Denis O'Callaghan, resides at same place. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, con- sists of corduroy jacket and trowsers, Scotch cap, strong nailed boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the DESCRIPTION of John Grady ( mother's surname Mary Cleary), native of Ardkilmartin, who stands charged with having, on the 10th July, 1877, in the barony of Liberties of Kilmallock, parish of Saint Peter and Paul, committed an indecent assault:— Very brown eyes, long thin n6se, sallow corhplexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8- J inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair, has small black whiskers, and shaves bis chin, woro a jerry hat, blue frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest; is a lsbourGr, Kilfinane, July 19, 1877. ( 13686 c.— 24283.) Daniel Doran ( convict, who failed to report himself to the police) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th July, 1877. Two unknown persons ( malicious injury) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd March, 1877. Londonderry. DESCRIPTION of John Connell, native of Kilhoyle, who stands charged with having, on the 24th day of May, 1877, in the barony of Keenaght, parish of Balteagh, assaulted Henry Kelly, junior, of Kilhoyle, by striking him on the head with a stone and kicking nim on the body, from the effects of which he died oil the 10th inst.:— Old cut- marks on face; blue eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 5 ' feet 7 inches high, about 87 years of age, red hair; wore a soft round hat, it is supposed dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hunt, ( mother's surname Quigley,) native of Knockgranagh, who stands charged with having, on the 29th November, ult., in the barony of Leyny, parish of Achonry, murdered John M'Gloin, by fracturing his skull with a large stone:— Down- looking appearance, two upper front teeth large and prowinetyt, high cheek bones, large heavy lips, sunken jaws, very broad, shoul^ em; it is also stated that Hunt's Ieft wrist is tattooed; glaring black eyes, slightly cocked nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, black hair, small dark moustache ; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest. Was in America, and lately returned from England, where he worked as a labourer. Has a pair of English- mada navvy boots with iron plates under toes, also a pair oflight Wellington boots.
