' All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. STOLEN from the North- wall, Dublin,' on the lTtli August, 1877, the following articles, the property of a passenger, between Holyhead and Dublin, viz. :— A brown leather portmanteau, Z. on each end, canvas cover, same initials on ends, containing the following articles, viz.— a new dress suit, made by Buckmaster, Dawson- street, a morning suit, a shawl- pattern dressing gown ( red flannel lining), about 8 linen shirts ( 2 fancy), 9 night shirts, 1 pair of merino drawers, 2 silk under- vests; the name Buckmcuter supposed on inside of collars of coats, on inside of back straps of vests, on inside of waistbands of trow- sers, and on buttons of latter; 1 dozen collars, 6 silk and 6 cambric pocket- handkerchiefs, and some silk ties, 1 dressing- case well furnished, 1 pair of London made razors with ivory halts ( I of latter split), I French razor strop ( maker Eubriel), 1 pair hair- brushes in case, 1 long tortoise- shell comb ( a tooth broken), a large magnifying glass mounted in metal, a small do. mounted in tortoise- shell, a large white ivory double opera- glass, a complete set of ivory teeth ( gold springs), 1 fancy inkstand ( double cover), a Roman Catholic prayerbook ( bound in Russian lea- ther, a cross on cover), several reading essays, books, • fee., Ac., a silver- mounted cigar case to hold 8 cigars, a brown leather do., about 18 cabinet cigars, and 1 onyx breast- pin, with studs to match. Informations to the Detective Department, 3, Ex- change- court, Dublin. October 4, 1877, JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of tho under- mentioned, who calls him- self Doctor Taylor, and who is wanted, on Warrant charging him with having obtained several sums of money by falsely representing that he was collecting money for an hospital at Damascus :— He is between 30 and 85 years old, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, black hair, heavy black eyebrows, black eyes, black mous- tache, and olive complexion ; dresses generally in dark cloth frock, check trowsers, and round black hat with a feather in band, and occasionally wears a brown overcoat and tall silk hat. He says his father was a Jewish rabbi. Information to the Superintendent, Detective De- partment, Dublin, who holds Warrant for arrest. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. September 21, 1877. ( 1443 R.) DESCRIPTION of a man and woman, names unknown, who are wanted on suspicion of having stolen a cow, which they had in their possession, and offered lor sale to a butcher at Bull- alley, between 4 and 6 A. M., on the 10th instant:— The man is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in an old brown frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and soft jerry hat. The woman is 80 to 36 years of age, low size, full features, and pale complexion ; wore an old dark straw bonnet and old light colour plaid shawl. Both ran away, leaving the cow behind, when they saw some hesitation about buying her. The cow has been claimed by Mr. Richard Graghan. of Kilmore, Coolock, and was stolen from his lands at that place. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, Aug. 20,1877. DESCRIPTION of James Reynolds, wanted for ' stealing £ 40 from his master on 14th instant, and absconding:— He is between 17 and 18 years of age, about 5 fpet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, light blue eyes, marks of boils on side of neck ; wore a black cloth jacket, low- crowned hat; speaks with a strong North of Ireland accent; was a page; is a native of Whitehall, Ballymena, county Antrim, where is parents are supposed to reside. Information to the Superintendent, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superinntedent's Office, May 15, 1877. DESCRIPTION cf convict Thomas Boyle ( 2490), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not re- porting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence:— Convicted at Hillsborough, county Down, at Hilary Sessions, on 7th January, 1870, for larceny after previous conviction for felony, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude; 35 years of age on con- viction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, is married and has one child, by; calling a dealer, prison trade a weaver; born iri Killyman, county Tyrone; he resided before conviction in Belfast; his friends reside in Belfast; black hair, gray eyes, black eyebrows, prominent nose, large mouth, dark com- plexion, oval visage, slender make, 5 feet 5J inches high; a long cut in the hair over forehead. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on the 6th September, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Liverpool, which place he left without reporting his destination to the Constabulary, and he is suspected of having gone to his wire who lives in or near Belfast. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5 th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, September 26, 1877. Charles William Smith ( forgery) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd March, 1877. Thomas Murphy ( embezzlement) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 7th November, 1876. William Burke ( embezzlement) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th April, 1876. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of the under- named young offender, who, on the 10th August, 1877, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School, at Belfast. Robert Williamson, 16 years of age, light brown hair, blue eyes, sharp nose, full mouth, fresh com- plexion, sharp visage, slight make, 5 feet 2 inches high; pockpitted; mole below left breast; is a gardener; formerly belonged to Strandtown, Belfast; parents reside at same place. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded:— Gray tweed jacket, moleskin trowsers and vest, white shirt, red checked necktie, woollen socks, and nailed boots. Believed to be working on a farm in county Down. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £\. ( 11311 M.— 18410.) DESCRIPTION of John O'Neill, alias Fanny, native of co. Antrim, who stands charged with having, on 12th June, 1877, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Ardclinis, been one of two men who so seriously assaulted James Crawford that he died on the 17th inst. :— Brown eyes, thin nose, dark complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 36 years of age; wore a soft hat, dark frock coat, dark trowsers and vest, strong Wellington boots; served in the Naval Reserve ; has the appearance of a man who has been at sea, but is a farmer. John M'Cann ( convict, who failed to report him- self to the Police) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 22nd June, 1877. Peter M'Keown ( serious assault) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1st June, 1877. Belfast. DESCRIPTION of Edward Hughes, native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 1 st August, J 87 7, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankill, failed to report himself to the Constabulary at He'rcules- street, on change of residence, ho being under Police supervision :— Cut- mark on point of chin ; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 33 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a low black hat, light tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a cutter. Patrick Laughran ( convict, who failed to report himself to the Police), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 17th July, 1877. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of Bernard Gormley ( mother's sur- name Hanley), native of Tarmon, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1877, in the barony of Castlerahan, parish of Lurgan, seriously assaulted Owen Lynch, by striking him several blows on the head with a stick :— Red freckled face, down- looking; gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, full face, stout square make, 5 feet 10 inches h'gh, about 30 years of age, sandy hair ard moustache; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. Warrant for this man's arrest at Ballyjarnesduff. Ballyjamesduff, August 17, 1877. ( 14044 c.— 24888.) Margaret Green ( bigamy) not arrested; Huc- and- Cry, y3rd March, 1877. Cork. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following; DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Cooladerry, county Cork, E. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1875, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. Mitchelstown, March 24, 1875. ( 5182 c.— 9507.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, OCTOBER 5, 1877. DESCRIPTION of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on tho 30th March, 1870, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place:— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 2. Unknown— Fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, large sandy whiskers; wore a soft hat, faded cloth coat. Mitchelstown, April 5, 1870. ( 5182 c.— 16188.) DESCRIPTION of a woman, name and native place unknown, will probably call herself Mary Goodman, who stands charged with having, on the 25th June, 1877, in the barony of East Division of West Car- bery, parish of Creagh, obtained money under false pretences :— Very heavy eyelids, regular nose, fair complexion, tliin face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 22 years of age, black hair curling over shoulders; wore a black hat, black dress trimmed with green, black jacket trimmed with sealskin. The police should caution the clergymen of their respective districts about this woman, as she is be- lieved to be tho same person who has obtained sums of money front various clergymen in different parts of the country. DESCRIPTION of James Murphy, native of Carrick- broad, near Forkhill, county Armagh, who stands charged with having, on tho 21st September, 18t7, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Seapatrick, seriously assaulted Thomas Reavey, so as to endanger his lifo:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion palo faco, stout make, 5 feet 0 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a cap, dark frock coat, moleskin trowsers ; is a labourer. Banbridge, Sept. 25, 1877. ( 14444 25533.) DESCRIPTION of a horse and set of harness, which were stolen on the night of the 27th, or morning of the 28th ultimo, out of the stable of James Graham, at Gransha, in the parish of Dromara, and barony of Upper Iveagh;— Dark bay horse, 15| hands high, off fore fetlock white, small white star on forehead, 5 years old, in good condition, and value for £ 50. The harness was much worn, and the hameS were made of iron. Rathfriland, Oct! 3, 1877. ( 14579 c.— 25750.) Michael Malone ( forgery and perjury) not arrested ; Hue- arid- Cry, 25th May, 1877. Edward Higginson ( convict who failed to report himself to the Police) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 25th May, 1877. Hugh Ashe ( felonious assault) not arrested Hue- and- Cry, 22nd May, 1877. Gilbert M'Ilurick ( embezzlement) not arrested Huc- and- Cry 4th May, 1877. ag Dublin. DESCRIPTION of convict Daniel Martin ( 13772), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence :— Convicted at Wicklow, county Wicklow, at Hilary Sessions, on 4tli January, J 872, for house- breaking, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude; 43 years of ago oh conviction, Can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, by trade a tailor; born in Dolgany, county Wicklow ; - resided before conviction at Newcastle, county Wicklow; his friends reside about Dublin; gray hair, brown eyes, light brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fresh com- plexion, round visage, average. make, 5 feet 6 inches high ; lost sevoral teeth out of cash side of upper jaw; scrofula marks on right side of neck ; " A. D. " on left side ; a large mole on left arm between elbow and shoulder. The above- named convict was released from Spike Island Prison, on an order of licence, on the 3rd of July, 1877. The Constabulary at Bray reports that he left his residcnco there oil tho 6th instant without notifying same to the Police, and has not since been heard of. In tho ovent of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic;, cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, September 13, 1877. DESCRIPTION of John Little, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 6th Septem- ber, 1877, at Killenarden, in the barony of Upper- cross, parish of Tallaght, stolon a trowsers and hat, value for 15s., which have since been recovered: — Bow- legged, walks stiff, flat feet, down- looking, no whiskers; hooked nose, fair complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a black cap, brown coat, old dirty trowsers, tweed vest. Tramps about tho country and frequents dance- houses ; is a labourer Dundrum, Sept. 11, 1877. ( 14318 25322,) DESCRIPTION of James Reilly ( mother's surname Reilly), native of Firhouse, who stands charged with having, on the 5th August, 1877, at Knocklyon, in the harony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, criminally assaulted a girl 11 years of age:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, high chock bones, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 or 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft brown hat, dark coat and vest, laced Bluclicr boots ; sullen in manners ; is a blacksmith. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Read ( mother's surname Brannagan), native of Tillytown, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of July, 1877, at Shan- ganagh, in tho barony of Rathdown, parish of Rath- michael, stolen a silver Geneva watch, value' £ 2, and who having been bailed to appear at Petty Sess; ons to answer tho charge, failed to do so:— A small scar on right side of mouth ; brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, about 24 years of ago, dark brown hair; wore a black coat, dark tweed trowseis and vest; is a groom. A Warrant tor his arrest is in the hands of the Constabulary at Tillytown. Dundrum, August 6, 1877. ( 13924 c.— 24691.) The man, name unknown ( burglary) not ar- rested ; Hue- and- Cry, 19tli June, 1877. Fermanagh. Bridget M'Hugh ( larceny) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th July, 1877. Galway. DUBLIN CASTLE, 23rd August, 1877. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of a quarter past nine o'clock, on the evening of the 8tli instant, Head Constable John O'Connors, of the Royal Irish Constabulary, was fired at and grievously wounded by some persons at present unknown, whilst returning from Dalgan to Dunmore, in the county of Galway : His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within . six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same, and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as will lead to the same result. By His Grace's command, T. H. BURKE. The above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by A. F. Ball, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Tuam, to those who may become entitled to them under the conditions of this Proclamation. John Burke ( larceny) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 17th April, 1877. Purcell, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 18th September, 1877, at Newbridge, in the barony of Connell, parish of Morristownbiller, obtained the sum of £ 3 by false pretences from the Troop Sergeant- Major, 5th Dragoon Guards:— Brown hair; wears a moustache and very small whiskers; hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9J inches high, about 32 years of age ; wore a low bat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest ( the tweed is light, mixed with red) ; he has a military appearance, having recently deserted from the 10th Lancers, in which he was Sergeant- Major; is known in some of the Dublin Military Barracks. Kildare, Sept. 22, 1877. ( 14445 c 25536.) The 2 men, names and native places unknown ( robbery) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th April, 1877. The unknown parson ( cattle stealing) not arrested; hue- and- Cry, 6th March, 1877. Kilkenny. DESCRIPTION of George Kerr, native, of Edinburgh who stands charged with having, on tho 9th August, 1877, in the barony of Kilkenny, parish of St. John, deserted, stealing from the quarters of Lieut. Robert Brady, R. A., a .£ 5 and 4 £ 1 notes from a drawer, also a suit of dark tweed clothes:— Bluo eyes, regular nose, fresli complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, tweed trowsors and vest; is a gunner in the Royal Artillery and officer's servant, also French polisher. Kilkenny, August 11,1877. ( 13981 c— 24789.) Martin Bergin ( cattle stealing) not arrested ; Huc- and- Cry, 27th July, 1877. Michael Leechman ( cattle stealing) not arrested ; Huc- and- Cry, 3rd July, 1877. Owen Keatinge ( larceny) not arrested; Huc- and- Cry, 5th June, 1877. Bridget Kennealy ( larceny of money) not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 5th June, 1877. • King's. DESCRIPTION of the under- named young offender, who, on thel7th September, 1877, absconded from the St. Conleth's Reformatory School at Philipstpwn :— Patrick Sheehan, No. 538, 15 years of age, 5 feet ^ inch high, strong make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ( right eye, half brown, half blue), regular nose, regular mouth, round visage; formerly belonged to Ballysimon, county Limerick. His father is dead ; his stepfather, Denis O'Callaghan, resides at same place. The school dress, all with reformatory stamp, con- sists of corduroy jacket and trowsers, Scotch cap, strong nailed boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 2. ( 11473 M.— 18647.) The man, name unknown ( robbery) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th April, 1877. ,— Leitrim. The ass, the property of Samuel Rosemond, described in Hue- and- Cry of 18th September, 1877, has been restored to the owner. ( 14359 c.'— 25412.) Francis M'Kernan ( harbouring a felon) not ar- rested; Hue- and- Cry, 8tli June, 1877. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of Robert Walsh, native of Killinane, who stands charged with having, on the 1st Sep- tember, 1877, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, committed rape :— Bow- legged, and turns in his toes when walking; blue or gray eyes, thick drooped nose, fresh complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 27 years of ago, light brown hair; wore a furry cap, dark twee 1 coat, trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. Kilfinane, September 5, 1877. ( 14247 c.— 25224.) DESCRIPTION of convict Thomas Riordan ( 2473>, who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence:— Convicted in Limerick, at Hilary Sessions, on 25th January, 1873, for assault and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; 20 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Koman Catholic, single, is a labourer; born in Oola, county Limerick, where he resided before conviction; his friends reside at same place ; brown hair, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fair complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high; a slight cut on front of forehead; a large cut- mark on front of right hand. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, 13th February, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Oola, county Limerick, where he reported himself to the Constabulary. He left Oola without reporting himself, but sent a letter to the Constabulary there on the 24th July, 1877, bearing Knocklong post- mark. Relatives believe he went near Emly, county Tipperary, but it is reported he may have left for America; present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5tli section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., chap. 112. Government Prisons . Office, Dublin Castle, July 30, 1877. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Coushen or Cousin, native of Illaunmeen, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, 1877, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, seriously assaulted Edward M'Grath, game- keeper to Lieut.- Colonel Massy :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, freckled face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair, light moustache ; wore a hard round black hat, coarse dark tweed ^ fe coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. ^^ Kilfinane, July 23,1877. Roscommon. DOMJN CASTLE, 10th August, 1877. WHEREAS it has been represented to tbo Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 1 o'clock, P. M., on the 2nd June last, James Young, esq., j. p., was found dead on the avenue of his residence, at Hspristown, near Castlerea, having been murdered by some person or persons at present unknown : And whereas Their Excellencies the Lords Justices have, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of the said murder, offered a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the 11th June last, give such informa- tion as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the said murder; and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result: His Graoo is also pleased to offer a FREE PARDON to any person concerned in the said crime, other than the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as will lead to the conviction of the persons concerned with him in the crime. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hunt, ( mother's surname Quigley,) native of Knockgranagli, who stands charged with having, on the 29th November, ult., in the barony of Leyny, parish of Achonry, murdered John M'Gloin, by fracturing his skull with a large stone :— Down- looking appearance, two upper front teeth large and prominent, high cheek bones, large heavy lips, sunken jaws, very broad shoulders ; glaring black eyes, slightly cocked nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, black hair, small dark moustache ; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest.
