All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to bo transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- Gonoral. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Folonios, no other description of Notice can bo inserted in the Hue- and- Cry, DUBLIN, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1877. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. DESCRIPTION of a. man an ' imes unknown, who are wanted on suspicion 01 having stolen a cow, which they had in their possession, and offered for sale to a butcher at Bull- alley, between 4 and 5 A. M., on the 10th instant:— The man is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in an old brown frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and soft jerry hat. The woman is 30 to 36 years of age, low size, full features, and pale complexion ; wore an old dark straw bonnet and old light colour plaid shawl. Both ran away, leaving the cow behind, when they saw some hesitation about buying her. The cow has been claimed by Mr. Richard Graghan. of Kilmore, Coolock, and was stolen from his lands at that place. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, Aug. 20, 1877. DESCRIPTION of James Reynolds, wanted for stealing £ 40 from his master on 14th instant, and absconding:— He is between 17 and 18 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, light blue eyes, marks of boils on side of neck; wore a black cloth jacket, low- crowned hat; speaks with a strong North of Ireland accent; was a page; is a native of Whitehall, Ballymena, county Antrim, where is parents are supposed to reside. Information to the Superintendent, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superinntedent's Office, May 15, 1877. DESCRIPTION of a mare, at present in possession of tho Police at Chancery- lane Police Station, and which is supposed to have been stolen:— A bay mare, white star on forehead, and white over fetlocks of hind legs, white spot under straddle, aged, and in poor condition. The mare was attached to a stolen dray on 28th ult., and in possession of a man who made his cscapc from the owner of the latter. Superintendent's Office, August 2, 1877. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of John Smith, jun., native of Money- staghan Ellis, county of Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the 29th August, 1877, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Portglenone. and county Antrim, abducted and has since detained Susan Mary Courtney, of Glenburn House, London- derry. she being under 16 years of age:— Gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 19 years of age, fair hair ; wore a low hat, dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. Warrant granted for his arrest. Ballymena, Sept. 11, 1877- U43" c.— 25321.) DESCRIPTION of the under- named young offender, who, on the 10th August, 1877. absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast. Robert Williamson, 16 years, of age, light brown hair, blue eyes, sharp nose, full mouth, fresh com- plexion, sharp visage, slight make, 5 feet 2 inches high; pockpitted; mole below left breast; is a gardener; formerly belonged to Strandtown, Belfast; parents reside at same place. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded:— Gray tweed jacket, moleskin trowsers and vest, white shirt, red checked necktie, woollen socks, and nailed boots. Believed to be working on a farm in county Down. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 11311 18410.) DESCRIPTION of John O'Neill, alias Fanny, native of co. Antrim, who stands charged with having, on 12th June, 1877, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Ardclinis, been one of two men who so seriously assaulted James Crawford that he died on the i 7th inst. :— Brown eyes, thin nose, dark complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 36 years of age; wore a soft hat. dark fiv> ck coat, dark trowsers and vest, strong Wellington boots; served in the Naval Reserve ; has the appearance of a man who has been at sea, but is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Edward Hughes, native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 1st August, 1877, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankill, failed to report himself to the Constabulary at Hercules- street, on change of residence, he being under Police supervision -.— Gut- mark on point of chin ; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 33 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a low black hat, light tweed coat, daik tweed trowsers and vest; is a cuttcr. DESCRIPTION of Bernard Gormley ( mother's sur- name Hanley), native of Tarmon, who stands charged with having, on the 15tlx August, 1877, in the barony of Castlerahan, parish of Lurgan, seriously assaulted Owen Lynch, by striking him several blows on the head with a stick :— Red freckled face, down- looking; gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, full face, stout square make, 5 feet 10 inches h gh, about 30 years of age, sandy hair ar d moustache ; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, daik trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. Warrant for this man's arrest at Ballyjamesduff. Ballyjamesduff, August 17, 1877. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Cooladerry, county Cork, E. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1875, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle :— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. Mitchelstown, March 24, 1875. ( 5182 c.— 9507.) DESCRIPTION of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place :— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; woro a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 2. Unknown— Fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, large sandy whiskers ; wore a soft hat, faded cloth coat. Mitchelstown, April 5, 1876. ( 5182 c.— 16188.) DESCRIPTION of a woman, name and native place unknown, will probably call herself Mary Goodman, who stands charged with having, on the 25th June, 187 7, in the barony of East Division of West Car- bery, parish of Creagh, obtained money under false pretences :— Very heavy eyelids, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 22 years of age, black hair curling over shoulders; wore a black hat, black dress trimmed with green, black jacket trimmed with sealskin. The police should caution the clergymen of their respective districts about this woman, as she is be- lieved to be the same person who has obtained sums of money from various clergymen in different parts of the country. THE POLICE GAZETTE, GR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1877. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of convict Daniel Martin ( 13772) who haS broken the conditions of liis licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence :— Convipted at Wicklow, county Wicklow, at Hilary Sessions, on 4th January, 1872, for house- breaking, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude; 41! years of ftge on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, by trade a tailor; born in Delgany, county Wicklow; resided before conviction at Newcastle, county Wicklow; his friends reside about Dublin ; gray hair, brown eyes, light brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fresh com- plexion, round visage, average make, 5 feet 0 inches high ; lost several teeth out of each side of upper jaw; scrofula marks on right side of neck; " A. D. " on left side; a large mole on left arm between elbow and shoulder. ' The above- named convict was released from Spike Island Prison, on an order of licence, on the 3rd of July, 1877. The Constabulary at Bray reports that he left his residence there on the 6th instant without notifying same to the Police, and has not since been heard of. Tn the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, September 13, 1877. DJCSCIIIPTION of John Little, native placc unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 6th Septem- ber, 1877, at Killenarden, in the barony of Upper- cross, parish of Tallaght, stolen a trowsers and hat, value for 15s., which have since been recovered: — Bow- legged, walks stiff, flat feet, clown- looking, no whiskers; hooked'nose, fair complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a black cap, brown coat, old dirty trowsers, tweed vest. Tramps about the country and frequents dance- houses; is a labourer. Dundrum, Sept. 1 1, 1877. ( 14318 c.— 25829.) DESCRIPTION of James Reilly ( mother's surname Reilly), native of Firhouse, who stands charged with having, on the 5th August, 1877, at Knocklyon, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, criminally assaulted a girl li years of age:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long faco, j high cheek bones, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 10 or .2 ? years of age, fair hair; wore a Soft brown hat, dark coat and vest, laced Blucher boots ; sullen in manners ; is a blacksmith. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Read ( mother's sure ame Brannagan), native of Tillytown, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of July, 1877, at Shan- ganagh, . jn the barony of Bathdown, pari h of Bath- rnichael, stolrri a silver Geneva watch, value £ 2, and who having been boiled to appear tit Petty Sessions to answer the charge, failed to do so:— A small sear on right side of mouth ; brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round full face, stour make, 5 feet - 6 or 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a black coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a groom. Galway. : DUBLIN CASTLE, 23rd August, 1877. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant,' thiit, about the hour of a quarter pass niije o'clock, on the evening of the 8ih instant Head Constable John O'Connors, of ihe Royal. Irish Constabulary, was fired at and grievously wounded by some persons at present unknown, whilst returning from Dalgan to Dunmore, in the, county of Galway: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justico the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased'hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information' as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same, and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private i- formation as will lead to the same result. By His Grace's com a: and, T. H. BURKE. The above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by A F. DESCRIPTION of Frank E. Murley, native of Green- wich, Kent, who stands charged with having, on the 6tli of September, 1877, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, forged the name of the Departmental Paymaster to several cheques, and received money for same:— Slight scar on upper lip, toes slightly turned in, moves his head up and down at. if having a tight collar on, mole on left breast; hazel eyes, regular nose, fail; complexion, round face, smart and active make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, looks younger, light brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a soldier;! has the appearance of a clerk or sliopboy. DESCRIPTION of George Kerr, native of Edinburgh, who stands charged with having, on the 9th August, J S77, in tl? e barony of Kilkenny, parish of St.. John, deserted, stealing from the quarters of Lieut. Robert Brady, ii. a., a £ 5 and 4 £ l notes from a drawer, also a suit of dark tweed clothes— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh completion, round face, medium make, 5 feet inches high/ about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a gunner in the Royal Artillery and officer's servant, also French polisher. Leitrim, Francis M'Kernan ( harbouring a felon) not ar- rested; Hut- and- Cry, 8th June, 1877. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of Robert Walsh, native of Killinane, who stands charged with having, on the 1st Sep- tember, 1877, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Gal bally, committed rape on Sarah Moroney, of Keelogues :— Bow- legged, and turns in his toes when walking; blue or gray eyes, thick droOped nose, fresh complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 foot 10 inches high, about 27 years of age, light brown hair; wore a furry cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. Kilfinane, September 5, 1877. ( 14247 c.— 252- 44.) DESCRIPTION of convict Thomas Riordan ( 2473), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence:— Convicted in Limerick, at Hilary Sessions, on 25tli January, 1873, for assault and sentenced to 5. years' penal servitude ; 20 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a labourer; born in Oola, county Limerick, where he resided before conviction; his friends reside at same place ; brown hair, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fair complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high; a slight cut on front of forehead ; a largo cut- mark on front of right hand. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, 13th February, 1877, on an ordfer of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Oola, county Limerick, where he reported himself to the Constabulary. He left Oola without reporting himself, but sent a letter to the Constabulary there on the 24th July, 1877, bearing Knocklong post- mark. Relatives believe he went near Emly, county Tipperary, but it is reported he may have left for America; present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest,' he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vie., chap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, July 30, 1877. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Coushen or Cousin, native of Illaunmeen, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, 1877, in tho barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, seriously assaulted Edward M'Grath, game- keeper to Lieut.- Colonel Massy :—- Gray eyes, regular noise, fair com- plexion. freckled face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, lair hair, light moustache ; wore a hard round black hat, coarse dark ttoeed eoat, dark tweed . trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of the. under- named young offender, who, on the 17th September, 1877, absconded from the St. Conleth's Reformatory School at Philipstown •— Patrick Sheehan, No. 538, 15 years of age, 5 feet | inch high, strong make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ( right eye, half brown, half blue), regular nose, regular mouth, round visage ; formerly belonged to Ballysimon, county Limerick. His father is dead; his stepfather, Denis O'Callaghan, resides at same place. The school dress, all with Beformatory stamp, con- sists of corduroy jacket and trowsers, Scotch cap, strong nailed boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 2. ( 11473 m — 18647.) DESCRIPTION of 7 head of cattle, the property of Mr. Matthew Haughran, of Kilbride, which were stolen f rom the lands of Kilbride, parish of Kilbride, barony of Ballycowan, on the night of the 5th of September, 1877 :— Five bullocks, years old— 1 blue colour, 1 speckled white and red, 3 yellow colour. Two heifers, years old, yellow colour, 1 having a sprinkling of white. All branded with the letter II on left horn. Tullamore, Sept. 6, 1877. ( 14270 c.— 25250.) Mary Mooney ( convict who failed to report her- self to the Police) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 5th June, 1877. DESCRIPTION of John Grady ( mother's surname Mary Cleary), native of Ardkilmartin, who stands charged with having, on the 10th July, 1877, in the barony of Liberties of Kilmallock, parish of Saint Peter and Paul, committed an indecent assault:— Very brown eyes, long thin nose, sallow complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8£ inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair, has small black whiskers, and shaves his, chin, wore a jerry hat, blue frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed VMt; is a labourer. Kilfinane, July 19, 1877. ( 13686 c.— 24283.) Daniel Doran ( convict, who failed to report himself to the police) not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 20th July, 1877. Two unknown persons ( malicious injury) 1 not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd March, 1877. Londonderry. DESCRIPTION of James M'Fadden, native of county of Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of August, 1877, in the barony of Lower Liberties, parish of Templemore, assaulted William Lowry by striking him on the head with a hoe, which fractured his skull:— Smart active appear- ance, rather good- looking ; full blue eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark hair, small dark moustache ; wore a billycock hat., dark coat, trowsers and vest; served in the Donegal Militia'; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a cow, the property of Hugh Sheridan, which was stolen from the lands of Dru- inard, parish of Killoe, barony of Longford, on tho 12th day of September, 1877 :— A gray strawberry milch cow, yellow neck, cocked horns. 3 years old, in good condition, and value for about £ 14. P., was found dead on tho avenue of his residence, at Harristown, near Castlerea, having been murdered by some person or persons at present unknown : And whereas Their Excellencies the Lords Justices have, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of the said murder, offered a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or perso/ is who shall, within six months from the 11th June last, give such informa- tion as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the said murder; and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall load to the same result: His Grace is also pleased to offer a • FREE PARDON to any person concerned in the said crime, other than the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as will lead to the conviction of the persons concerned with him in the crime.
