At the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Absconded from Middlesbrough on the night of 8th instant, charged with cutting and wounding a man : about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, blue eyes, thin face and clean shaved, a labourer or driller in shipyards; dressed in blue cloth shooting coat with velvet collar, grey checked trousers and vest, ail much worn, red and black plaid scarf, small pattern, billycock hat, and lace boots. The Albert Machine Works, Merchant- street, Blackburn, • was unlawfully and maliciously set on fire on the night of 3rd instant, and stolen therefrom : a small common alarum Clock, square case, about 12 ins. high, 8 ins. broad, made of varnished deal wood ; the property of Mr. Rich. Description of GEORGE JONES, alias JOHN BAR- FIELD, charged with stealing, wish violence, from Tom Morris, hotel keeper, of Hinckley, at Burbage, 01 the night of 20th ultimo; a Mare, a Gig, 2 Rugs, a Whip, an ulster Overcoat, a gold Watch, a gold albert Chain, ai. d about 8s. In Silver; the Mare, Gig, Rugs, and Whip have been recovered. He is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, brown hair, fresh complexion, full eyes, small light moustache, no whiskers, and rather large flat feet. Also HENRY HOLMES, charged with stealing a Mare, Saddle, and Bridle ( which have been recovered), from the premises of Mr. Joseph Morris Grundy, farmer, Normanton, near Hinckley, on 26th ultimo. He is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light complexion and hair, no whiskers or moustache, Blender build, scars on forehead, right cheek, and left arm, blue dot on left hand, and has varicose veins on both legs. His father lives at Burton- on- Trent, has a brother living at Kenilworth, and another brother, a keeper to Captain Digby, near Coleshill, Warwickshire, in which county Holmes is well known, he having been convicted there for horse stealing, & c. Stolen during the night of 12th instant, from a shoe- makers shop, at the Brockholes, near Ironbridge, by means of breaking a pane of glass : a new pair of Boots, strong made, three rows of round headed Eails up the centre, and three rows round outside of foreparts, and one row of square headed nails round the heels, lace- up, brass eyelets, and the letters ' W. Description of a man who is changed with house- breakicg at Middlesborough, on 7th instant : about 26 years cf age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stoutly built, and no whiskers or mous- tache ; dressed in a grey tweed suit, with a narrow black stripe, and stiff bodv hat, with broad biim. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Police Office, Middlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 10. Between 10 30 p m. on 1st, and 9 a. m. on 3rd instant, the clothiers shop of Mr. Birkenshaw, Medbourne, near Market Harborough, Leicestershire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : 4 black doeskin monkey Jackets, two outside pockets on hips, and three inside pockete, two of which are very large and lined with cotton cord, black silk velvet collars, and the cuffs are lined inside with black silk velvet, the coats are machine stitched in Vandyke style, and two of them have raised seams dowu the bacK and are lined with pepper and salt coloured tweed, the others are lined with dark coloured witney cloth, smoke coloured pearl buttons on two of the coats, and black bone buttons ou the other two; a pair of Bedford cord Trousers, fly fronts, pocket on right hip, and brass buttons with name of ' Birgin.' ElfGS Stolen on the night of 10th instant, from a field on the Birmingham- road, near West Bromwich : a grey Cob, about 14 hands 2 inches high, wall- eyed, white face, thick near hind leg, hind legs winte, off fare- foot white, and dragoon mane ; the property of Mr. William Key, breeze dealer, Duke Street, West Broomwich, A reward of £ b will be paid oa recovery of the Horse and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given at the Police Station, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow sireet, September 14. Supposed to have been stolen on the eight of 10th inst,, from a field on the Birmingham- road, near West, Bromwich : a dark- brown cart Horsa, 6 years old, about 16 hands 2 inches high, black legs, black busby mace, which falls on each side of ueck, and switch tail; iti goad condition, has a scar inside near foreleg above the knee, upon which a slight substance has formed ; has a slight sore on crest, from which the hair has been rubbed; the property cf Mr. William Price, Lewisham Arms Inn, West Bromwich. If stolen a reward of £ 5 will be paid on recovery of the Horse and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 14. Stolen on 6th instant, from Blackheath : a black Mare, 15 hands high, blistered on each side, blind on off eye. By a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, full face ; dressed in dark coat, Scotch cap ; carried a brown paper parcel.— — Metropolitan Police, R £> ivision September 12, Stolen between 8 p in 8th and 3 30 am. on 9th instant, fiv. ni a stable in Manchester : a grey Mare, aged, 14| hands high, a lump on the knee of the near foreleg, small raw wound on the off hip, a little hair off the off hind leg, and newiy shod. Information to be given- to the Deputy Chief Con- stable, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, Sep'embir 12, Stolen from a field at Palmer Moor, near Doveridge, on the night of 4t, h instant : a light bay Horse, rising 7 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, black mane and tail, newly shod all round, and is a fast trotter. By two men, one about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and pitted with smallpox; dressed in dark cljthes. The other somewhat younger, stiff build, dark complexion, and hair cut very short; dressed in grey clothes. They had each a mackintosh, and carried a sack- bag, which apparently contained a saddle. £ 5 reward will be paid on conviction of thu offenders and recovery of the Horse. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Whieldon, Constabulary Office, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, September 12. Stolen during the night of 1st instant, from a field adjoining the Pershore- road, near Birmingham: a dark brown horse Cot), aged, about 14 hands high, small head, rough mane, tail cut square, stout made ; a set of electro- plated Harness, no breeching, collar ripped about four inches on the near side ; and a light spring- Cart, dark green, picked out with white, one new shaft, wbtels in very bad condition. £ 10 reward will ba paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Cob, Harnes, and Cart. REES, alias COCKER, a labourer, who is charged with having on 28th ultima, feloniously stolen two yearling Heifers, the property of John 8 POLICE G A Z E T T E, Sept amber 28 Jones, of Monmouth, innkeeper ( since recovered) : from 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inchte high, thin whey- appearance, cast in one eye, very thick up- turned lip, with- out whiskers or moustache, but shaves, and of dissipated habits ; dressed in long brown ro it, fustian sleeved waist- coat, striped trousers, and hard black bowler hat. He has worked in Gloucester at the waggon works, and iron wo> ks at Wednesbury, Staffordshire, wheie he has relatives. Information to ba given to Head Constable Wheeldon, Monmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- ttrgei, September 10. Stolen from Aller, Somerset-, on the night of 3rd instant, the property of Mr. J. Dobin : a dark brown Horse, 15 hands 1 inch high, white star on forehead, hair scanty on tail, 7 years oW, short less, thick set, and in good condition. ,£ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Dobin on the recovery of the horse and conviction of the offender or offenders. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hardwick, Somerset Constabulary, Somerton.— Bow- street, Sept. 10. about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light brown hair, fresh face, clean shaved, and stout figure. LAVENDER BENNETT, between 25 and 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow face, dark whiskers on side of face, and stout figure. JOHN BURCHAM, between 25 and 30 yea- s of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow face, dark whiskers on side of face. They have been working in the hundred feet river, and left Sutton on 4th instant." These names are supposed to be false. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Holland, County Police Station, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- siree', Sivtember 14. Absconded on the 8th instant, from No. Ill, Long- acre, embezzling various sums amounting to J6 : a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, full moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in a blue serge suit and high black hat, of gentlemanly appearance; a clerk.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, Sp'ember 14. Stolen on 10th instant, from 5, Burr- street, Lower East Smith field : £ 1 10s. in Gold and Silver; a lady's gold Brooch, lock of grey hair inside; a gold Wedding Ring ; a silver Dessert Spoon, stamped ' F. M. H.'; a lady's calico Chemise; a pair of Drawers; a lady's alpaca Umbrella; a grey mixture Cloak ; a Night Dress; a white flannel Petticoat; and a pink and white cotton Dress. By a female servant, 16 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh com- plexion, freckled, grey eyes, and fair hair; dressed in black polonaise, black jacket, trimmed with fur, and black hat. Absconded on 8th instant, from 8, Southampton- buildings, Chancery- lane, stealing -£ 15 : a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, prle complexion, dark brown hair and moustache ; of respectable appearance ; a clerk.— Metro- politan Police, E Division, September 12. Absconded, charged on warrant with embezzlement: ALBERT WELFARE, a butcher, late of No. 19, Gaywood- street, London- road, 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark hair, sallow complexion, thin face, lost fourth finger of left hand ; dressed in dark clothes, and cheese- cutter cap. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Po'ice, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C. — Bow- street, September 12. Description of WILLIAM OLIVER, of Basingstoke, charged with stealing a tame Duck on 1st inat. ( recovered), the property of Thomas Lee : 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, full pale face, and no whiskers; dressed in an old pepper- and- salt coat, old dirty cloth waistcoat, old blue serge trousers, and aolft billycock hat; he belongs to the Hants Militia. Information to be given to Head Constable Hibberd, Basingstoke, Hants.— Bow street, September 12. Stolen on 5th instant, from 76, Newman- street, Maryle- bone : 5 water colour Drawings, one a rock at Cornwall, in gilt frame, one two children sitting on steps in a street at Shrewsbury, one an. o"' d stone pulpit in a field at Shrewsbury, one an Italian girl on a chair, one a sea view at Hastings; ti^ WQMM&' TIWm. The dead body of a female child was found in the receiving room at the General Post Office, Weymouth on the evening of 12th instant, wrapped in a piece of an old blanket, and a piece of rough cotton sheeting, done up in a brown paper parcel. At an fcquest held on 13th instant, an open verdict was returned. .£ 10 reward will be given to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person who placed the body where found, or who are in any way connected with it. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Vickery, Police Office, Weymouth, Dorsetshire.— Bow- ttreet, Sep., 14. Remanded until 19th instant, at Rhayader Police Station on a charge of larceny: JOHN ROBINSON, a tramp, 19 years of ago, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, cut short, hazel eyes, scar on left eyebrow, cut mark on le t thumb, which causes a seam up the nail; dressed in old black cloth trousers, drab slop with band, black cap with peak and button on top, and without shoes or stockings. He says he is a native of Hunsdon, Herts; has been on board the Chichester Training Ship for about seven months. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Pecybont, rr to Acting Sergeant Everest, Rhayader, Radnorshire,— Bow- street, September 14. Description of a man remanded to 20th instant, at the Bishops Stortford Police Station, charged with stealing a Shirt and Waistcoat, from the ' Bell' public- house, Bishops Stortford, from a lodger, on the night of 11th instant : he gives his name as, HORACE COLE, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark curly hair, no whisker?, small moustache, fair complexion, scar on left side size of a 2- s. piece; dressed in dark coat with velvet collar, dark double breasted waist- coat, blue serge trousers, cheesecutter cap, old boot?, very much worn, lace- up in front, brass eyelet holes. He states he has tramped from Sandwich, slept at Gravesend on the night of 8th instant, and tramped OB to Bishops Stortford, and intended to go to Cambridge to seek for work on the Great Eastern Railway as an engine fitter. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Rvder, Police Station Bishops Stoitford, Herts.— Bow- street, September 14. Description of two gipsies, in custody under remand at the Chatteris Police Station, in the Isle of Ely, charged with stealing a Cheque, value .£ 10, recovered : ALFRED GRAY, alias JIM GRAY, no settled home, tramping cane worker, 28 years of age, 5 feet 10^ inches high, very dark complexion, very dark hair, very dark sunken eyes, clean shaved, prominent features, rather long nose, and receding forehead, scar on left side of chin, high cheek- bones, s car on left knee and shin- bone. And TOM GRAY, no settled home, a fiddler, 29 years of age, 5 feet 9J inches high, dark complexion, very dark hair, clean shaved, brown eyes, pockmarked about nose and upper part of face, small scar on top of forehead in the hair, receeding forehead, high cheek- bones, large ears, and the first finger of the left hand is bent.
