THE Police Gazette, OE HUE- AND- CRY. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. AH Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 1877. DUBIII METROPOLITAN POLICE. & Division DESCRIPTION of amanaid woman, names unknown, who are wanted on'suspicion of having stolen a COW, which they bad in their possession, and offered for sal » to a butcher at Bull- alley, between 4 and 6 A. M., on " he 10th instant :— Th* man is about 45 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 in hes high, stout build, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in an old brown frock cost, light tweed trowsers, and soft j wry hat. The woman is 30 to 85 jears of age, low size, fall ft otures, and pale complexion ; wore an old dark straw bonnet and old light colour plaid shawl. Both ran away, leaving the cow behind, when they saw soue hesitation about buying her. The cow has been claimed by Mr. Richard Graghan, of Kilmore, Coolock, and was stolen from his lands at that plaee. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, Aug. 30, 1877. DESCRIPTION of James Reynolds, wanted for stealing £ l6 from his master ou 14th instant, and ! absconding :— He is between 17 and 18 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair inclined t6 curl, light blue eyes, marks of, boils on side of neck; wore a black cloth jacket, low- crowned hat; speaks with a strong North of Ireland accent; was a page; is a native of Whitehall, Ballymena, county Antrim, where his parents are supposed to reside. Information to the Superintendent, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest Superintendent's Office, May 15, 1877. DESCRIPTION of R> mare, at present in possession of the Police at Chancery- lane Police Station, and which is supposed to have been stolen:— A bay mare, white stur, on forehead, and white over fetlocks of L ind legs, white spot under straddle, aged, and in poor condition. The mare was attached fo a stolen dray on 28th ult., and in possession of a man ffho made his escape from the owner of the la'ter. Superintendent's Office, August 3, 1877. Antrim, who stands charged with having on 12th June, 1877, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Ardclinis been one of two men who so seriously assaulted James Crawford that he died on the 17th inst. :— Brown eyes, thin nose, dark complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 35 years of age; wore a soft hat, cark frock coat, dark trowsers and vest, strong Wellington boo's ; served in the Naval Beseive : has the appearance of a man who has been at sea, but is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Bernard Gormley ( mother's sur- name Hanley), native of Tarmon, who stands charged w'th havir g, on the tfith August, 1877, in the barony of Castlerahan, paiish of Lurgan, seriously assaulted Owen Lynch, by striking him several blows on the head with a stick :— Red freckled face, down- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, fall face, stout square mate, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair and moustache; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest: is a farmer's spn. DESCRIPTION of an ass, the property of Patrick Lynch, which was stolen from the lands of Gurrane, paiish of Kilfearagh, barony of Moyatta, on the 30th or 31st day of August, 1877 :— A large gelding ass, 0 years old, whitish colour, head whiter than body, light and long legged, two feet ( fore) sho3, sand cracks in hoofs of fere feet, some hair off tip of shouller from straddle, in fair condition, and value for about £ 3 10s. DESCRIPTION of a he'fer, the property of John Curtin, which was stolen from the lands of Cloon- gaheen Wtst, paiish of Killokenedy. barony of Tulla Lower, on the 31st July, 1877:— A roan heifer, 3 years old, straight horns, loins somewhat sunken, large hip bones, fair condition, and value for £ 8, Killaloe, August 6, 1877. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Cooladerry county Cork, E. R., who stands charged with having, on the 23nd March, 1875, in the barony of coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; Brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. OKOOBIPTIOH oi 3 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place :— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, S feet 10 inches high, about 85 years of age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 3. Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, high cheek bones, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 or 30 years of age, fair hair j wore a soft brown hat, dark coat and vest. laced'Blucher boots; sullen in manners ; is a blacksmith. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Read ( mother's surname Brannagan), native of Tillytown, who stands charged with having on the 25th day of July, 1877, at Shan- ganagh, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Rath- michael, stolen a silver Geneva watch, value £ 3, aid who having lean bailed to appear at Petty Sessionsfto arswer the charge, failed to do so :— A small scar on rigid side oj mouth ; brown eyes, regular nose, daik complexion, round full face, stout irake, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a black co t dark tweed trowsers and vest; ia a groom. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 2 8 , 1877. Fermanagh. Bridget M'Hugh ( larceny) not arrested; Hue- aud- Cry, 27th July, 1877. Galway. DUBLIN CASTLE, 23rd August, 1877. WHERE AS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of a quarter past nine o'clock, on the evening of the 8th instant. Head Constable John O'Connors, of the Royal Irish Constabulary, was fired at and grievously wounded by some persons at present unknown, whilst returning from Dalgan to Dunmore, in the county of Galway: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same, and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as will lead to the same result. By His Grace's command, T. H. BURKE. The above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by A. F. Ball, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Tuam, to those who may become entitled to them under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of George Kerr, native of Edinburgh, who stands charged with having, on the 9' h August, 1877, ii the barony of Kilkenny, parish of St. John, deserted, stealing from the quarters of Lieut. Robert Brady, B. A., a".£ 5 and 4, £ 1 notes from a drawer, also a suit of dark tweed clothes:— Blue eves, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7J inches high, about 2? years of age, brown hair: wore a dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a gunner in the Royal Artillery and officer's servant, also French polisher. Leitrim. Francis M'Kernan ( harbouring a felon) not ar- rested; Hue- and- Cry, 8th June, 1877. . ; DRSORIPTION of convict Thomas Riordan ( 2473), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence :— Convicted in Limerick, at Hilary Sessions, on 2Bth January, 1878, for assault and and sentenced to 5 years* penal servitude; 20 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a labourer; birn in Oola, county Limerick, where he resided before conviction; his friends reside at sam9 place ; brown hair, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fair complexion, round visage, stout make, 6 feet 7 inches high; a slight cut on front of forehead; alage cut mark on front of ris^ ht hand. The above- named convict was released from Luak Prison, 18th February, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Oola, county Limerick, where he reported himself to tbe Constabulary. He left Oola without reporting himself, but sent a letter to the Constabulary there on the 24th July, 1877, bearing Knocklong post- mark. Relatives believe he went near Emly, county Tipperary, but it is reported he may have left for America; present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the Sth section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 84 and 85 Vie., chap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, July 30, 1877. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Coushen or Cousin, native of Illaunmeen, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, 1877, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, seriously assaulted Edward M'Grath, game- keeper to Lieut.- Colonel Massy:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fur com- plexion, freckled face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair, light moustache ; wore a hard round black hat, coarse dark tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest: is a labourer. DESOBIPTION of John Grady ( mother's surname Mary Cleary), native of Ardkilmartin, who stands charged with having, on the 10th July, 1877. in the barony of Liberties of Kilmallock, parish of Saint Peter and Paul committed an indecent assault:— Very brown eyes, long thin nose, sallow complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet inches high, about 28 years of age, dark brown hair, has small black whiskers, and shaves his chin; wore a jerry hat, blue frieze coat, eord trowsers, dark tweed vest; is a labourer. Two unknown persons ( malicious injury) not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry. 2Srd March. 1877. lOndonderry DESCRIPTION of James M'Fadden, native of county of Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the 18th dsy of August, 1877, in the barony of Lower Liberties, parish of Templemore, assaulted William Lowry by striking him on the head with a hoe, which fractured his skull:— Smart active appear- ance ; rather good- looking; full blue eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark hair, small dark moustache; wore a billycock hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest j " served in the Donegalj Militia; is a labourer. / Londonderry, Aug. 29,1877. DESCRIPTION of John Connell, native of Kilhoyle, who stands charged with having, on the 24th day of may, 1877, in the barony of Keanaght, parish of Balteagh, assaulted Henry Kelly, junior, of Kilhoyle, by striking him on'the head with a stone and kicking him on the body, from the effects of which he died on the 10th inst '.— Old cut- marks on face; blue eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, S feet 7 inches high, about 37 years of age, red hair • wore a soft round hat, it is supposed dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. Louth, DESCRIPTION of a man, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 2nd August, 1877, in the barony of Ardee, parish of Mapastown, stolen a ewe and 2 lambs, which he sold in the fair of Crossmaglen, on the Srd August, 1877 ; • he three animals have been since recovered:— Dark complexion, low set make, 5 feet 5 or 6 incbes high, about 85 years of age, brown hair and moustache; wore alow dark hat, bright tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; carried a large dark frieze overcoat across his arm. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Ruddy, native of Foxford, who stands charged with having, on tho night of the 27th July, 1877, at Aghamore, in the barony of Oostello, parish of Aghamore, forced an entrance into Michael Waldron's dwelling- house, assaulted his wife, and demanded money :— Gray eyes, regular nose, freckled complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 45 years of age, brown hair, sandy whiskers; wore a red necktie, an old dark twaed coat— small piece torn off the cuff 2| inches by 1 inMi— dark eord trowsars. black frieze vest, strong good laced boots ; is a ragman and low butcher. ( 18695 o.— 24302.) f ^ DESCRIPTION of Pact Ruane, native of Gleccullen Lower, parish of Kilcommon, barony of Erris, who stands charged with having, on tha 19th inst., assaulted John Shevlan, of same place, from the effects of which he died on the 21st inst:— Has a heavy gait of walking; gray eyes, regular nose, very fair complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 9 inches higb, about 83 years of age, fair hair, no beard or moustache s wears a soft low hat, dark frieze coat, and corduroy trowsers. Monaghan< DESCRIPTION of a heifer, the property of Anthony Clinton, which was stolen from the lands of Clough- valley, parish of Magheross, barony of Farney, on the 17th of July, 1877:— A 2- year- old yellow store heifer, with probably a few white specks about the kidneys, rather tall, with long legs, and long horns ; supposed to have been sent, via Dundalk and Liverpool, to Derby; value about £ 9. ( 14048 o— 94898.1 DESCRIPTION of Michael Reilly, native of Clara- county Cavan, and John Rudtjen, native of Drum- condra, county Cavan, wbo stand charged with having, on the 99th March, 1877, in the barony of Dartree, parish of Currin, been of a party ( two of whom are in custody) who assaulted Patrick Brides, of Knox, at Oorrackan, and inflicted wounds on him from which ho has since died :— 1. Michael Reilly— Holds down his head when walking, and has a slouching gait; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair: wore a jerry hat, dark coat, cord trowsers, dark vest; is a small farmer. 9. John Rudden—* ace all shaved; gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a low hat, dark coat, cord trowsers ; is a small farmer. DESCRIPTION of a milch cow, the property of Honora fly land, of Ballydavis, which was stolen from off the flteath, in the parish of Kilteala, barony of Mary, borough East, on the night of the 14th or morning of the I Sth instant:— Broad horns, blind of one eye ( supposed the Tight), red and white colour, in fair condition, and value for £ 9. WHEREAS it has beep represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about tbe hour of 1 o'clock, P. m, on the 2nd June last, James Young, esq., J P., was found dead on the avenue of his residence, at Harristown, near Castlerea, having been murdered by some person or persons at present unknown: " And whereas Their Excellencies the Lords Justices have, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of the said murder, offered a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the 11th June last, give such informa- tion as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the said murder; and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. His Grace is also pleased to ofler a FREE PARDON to any person concernel in tbe said crime, other than the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as will lead to the conviction of the persons concerned with him in the crime. The special'attention of the Constabulary is directed to the'following: DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hunt, ( mother's surname Quigley,) native of Knockgranagh, who stands charged with having, on the 39th November, ult., in the barony of Leyny, parish of Achonry, murdered John M'Gloin, by fracturing his skull with a large stone:— Down- looJcing appearance, two upper front teeth large and prominent, high cheek bones, large heavy lips, sunken jaws, very broad shoulders; glaring black eyes, slightly cocked nose, sallow compexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 37 or 38 years of age, black hair, small dark moustache; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest. Was in America, and lately returned from England, where he worked as a labourer. Has a pair of English- made navvy boots, with iron plates under toes, also a pair of light Wellington boots. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Keefe, native of Glengar, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 14th August, 1877, in the barony of Kilnams- nagh Upper, parish of Doon, assaulted Michael Kelly, of Curraghmarkey, by striking him on the head with a fork so as to endanger his life by frac- turing his skull:— Slovenly gait, turns out his toes, short neck, small blue eyes, slightly cocked nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make 5 feet R inches high, about 80 years of age, fair bair, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under chin; wore a soft round hat, old frieze froek coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Boddy, native of Csp- pauniac, who stands charged with having, on the 30th July. 1877, in the barony ot Clanwilliam, parish of Templeneiry, burglariously attempted to enter Ballydarrid Police Barrack, his lace being blackened;— Large flat feet ; vulgar and awkward appearance ; gray eves, thick nose, fresh complexion, roand face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, gray tweed vest; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Morty Gleeson, native of Bally- hiskea and James Egan, native of Knockmore, who stand charged with having, on the 29th of May, 1877, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Nenagh ( town of Nenagh), seriously assaulted John Dwyer, of Carrigatoher, inflicting a bad fracture of the skull, from the effects of which he died:— 1. Morty Gleeson— Brown eyes, cocked nose, sallow complexion, pale face, stout make, 6 feet 7J inches high, about 50 years of age, black hair; wore a jerry hat, frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, tweed " est; is a farmer and cattle dealer. 3. James Egan— Brown eyes, straight nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, brown hair; wore a round hat, frieze coat, cord trowsers, tweed vast; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of 3 bullocks, the property of the Earl of Caledon, which were stolen from the lands of Cumber, parish of Aghaloo, barony of Lower Dun- gannon, on or about the 26th dat of July, 1877 :— 1. Bed colour, with white spots on flank, branded on right horn with the number 20. 2. Red colour, with some white spots through body, and white spots on jaw, branded on right horn with the number 20. 3. DESCRIPTION ot John M'Donnell, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 80th July, 1877, in the barony of Ballinacor North, parish of Derrylossary, stolen 7 sheep from the mountain of Seven Churches:— Sallow complexion, thin face, 5 feet high, about 18 years of age; wore an old tweed coat, cord trowsers ; is a labourer.
