Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. g^ T All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry, DUBLIN, FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, 1877. G Division DESCRIPTION of James Reynolds, wanted for stealing £ 40 from his master on 14th instant, and absconding:— He is between 17 and 18 years of age, about 8 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, light blue eyes, marks of boils on side of neck; wore a black cloth jacket, low- crowned hat; speaks with a strong North of Ireland accent; was a page; is a native of Whitehall, Ballymena, county Antrim, where his parents are supposed to reside. Information to the Superintendent, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superintendent's Office. May 15, 1877. DESCRIPTION of 4 lambs, which were offered for sale at Bull- alley on the 9th inst., and which are believed to have been stolen :— Four lambs, under 1 year old, white, 8 are wethers and 1 a ewe, and neither is branded. DESCRIPTION of a mare, at present in possession of the Police at Chancery- lane Police Station, and which is supposed to have been stolen :— A bay mare, white star on forehead, and white over fetlocks of hind legs, white spot under straddle, aged, and in poor condition. Antrim, who stands charged with having, on 12th June, 1877, in the barony ol Lower Glenarm, parish of Ardclinis, been one of two men who so seriously assaulted James Crawford that he died on the 17th inst. :— Brown eyes, thin nose, dark complexion, full lace, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 86 years of ane: wore a soft bat, (' ark frock coat, dark trowsers and vest, strong Wellington boots ; served in the Naval Reserve ; has the appearance of a man who has been at see, but is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of a heifer, the property of John Curtin, which was stolen from the lands of Cloon- gabeen West, parish of Killokenedv. barony of Tulla Lower, on the 31st July, 1877:— A roan keifer, 2 jears old, straight horns, loins somewhat sunken, hrge hip bones, fair condition, and value for £ 8. Cork. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Cooladerry county Cork, E. R., who stands charged with having on the 32nd March, 1875, in the barony of Coshlea parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq. agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle :— Rather short neeJc, slightly round shoulders; Brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, $ feet 10 inches high, abont 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. DESCRIPTION of 3 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, or the 80th Marcb, 1876, in the barony of Condone and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge esq., and Constable Mathew Nngent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place :— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, t feet 10 inches high, about 85 years of age, sandj whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore t cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 3. DESCRIPTION of a woman, name and native place unknown, will probably call herself Mary Goodman, who stands chsrged with having, on tbe 25th June, 1877, io the barony of East Division of West Car- hery, parish of Creagh, obtained money under false pretences:— Very heavy eyelids, regular nose, faif complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 23 years of age, black hair curling over shoulders: wore a black hat, black dress trimmed with green, black jacket trimmed with sealskin. DESCRIPTION of a man and woman, names and nat've places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 10th inst., at Kilmorebeg, in the barony of Coolock, parish of Coolock, stolen a cow, the property of Richard Grogan, and offered it tor sile on same day in Dublin, but ran away when interrogated:— 1. Unknown— Fresh complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 45 years of age, sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved: wore a soft jerry hat, bro « n frock coat, tweed trowsers. 2. Unknown— Pale complexion, full face, small make, low- sized, about 30 or 35 years of age; wore a dark straw bonnet, old light- coloured plaid shawl. DESCRIPTION of James Reilly ( mother's surname Reilly), native of Firhouse, who stands charged with having, on the 5th August, 1877, at Knocklyon, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, criminally assaulted a girl 11 years of ago :— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, high cheek bones, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 or 20 years of age, fair bair ; wore a soft brown bat, dark coat and vest. laced'Blucher boots; sullen in manners ; is a blacksmith. DKSOBIPTION of a horse, the property of Henry Greene which was stolen from the lands of Lacca- more. parish of 0' Dorney, and baronyof Clanmatirice, on the night of 12th inst.:— A reddish bav Wge, his fore feet are turned in and crooked, the hind legs are also crooked and turned out, he has a sore on the right side of his back under the straddle, also a hard small lump u^ der the collar on left sit'e ; he has sores under the h » ir on the hiad legs near the hoofs : value for £ 00. DESCRIPTION of George Kerr, native of Edinburgh, who stands charged with having, on tbe 9th August, 1877, in the barony of Kilkenny, parish of St. John, deserted, stealing from the quarters of Lieut. Robert Brady, B. A., a £ 5 and 4 notes from a drawer, also a suit of dark tweed clothes:— Blue eves, regular nose, fre « h complexion, round face, medium make, 6 feet 7J inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair- wore a dark tweed coat, tw « od trowsers and vest; is a gunnir in the Royal Artillery and officer's servant, also French polisher. DESCRIPTION of a horse, the property of John Walsh, which was stolen from the lands of Roches- town, parish of Kilcolumb, barony of Ida, on the SOth dav of Tulv, 1 « 77 :— A bright bay horse, about 15 hands high, with small star marked on left knee from effects of an accident, blind of left eye, and valu » for £ 18. • Pilltown, Augast 11, 1877. Leitrim. Francis M'Kernan ( harbouring a felon) cot ar- rested ; Hue- and- Cry, 8th June, 1877. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of convict Thomas Riordan ( 9473), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence :— Convicted in Limerick, at Hilary Sessions, on 25th January, 1878, for assault and and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 20 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a labourer; born in Oola, county Limerick, where he resided before conviction; his iriends reside at same place ; brown hair, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fair complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high ; a slight cut on front of forehead; alage cut mark on tront of right hand. Ihe above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, 13th February, 1877, on an order of licence to be at large, and took his discharge for Oola, county Limerick, where be reported himself to the Constabulary. He left Oola without reporting himself, but sent a letter to the Constabulary there on tha 24th July, 1877, bearing linook'ong post- ark. Relatives believe ho went near Emly, cour t Tipperary, but it ia reported he may have left for America , present whe. eabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 34 and 35 Vic., chap. 119. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, July 30, 1877. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Coushen or Cousin, native of Illaunmeen, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, < 877, in the barony of Coshlea. parish of Galbally, seriously assaulted Edward M'Grath, game- keeper to Lieut.- Colonel Massy :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, freckled face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 yeai s of age, fair hair, light moustache : wore a hard round black hat, coarse dark tweed coat, dark twee t trowsers and v- st; is a labourer. DHSOBIPTION of John Grady ( mother's surname Mary Cleary), native of Ardkilmartin, who stands charged with having, on the 10th July, 1877( in the barony of Liberties of Kilmallock, parish of Saint Peter and Paul committed an indecent assault:— Very brown eyes, long thin nose, sallow complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8i inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair, has small black whiskers, and shaves his chin; wore a jerry hat, blue frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest; is a labourer. Londonderry, DESCRIPTION of John Connell, native of Kilhoyle, who stands charged with having, on the 94th day of • fay, 1877, in the barony of Keenaght, parish of Balteagh, assaulted Henry Kelly, junior, of Kilhoyle, by striking him on the head with a stone and kicking l) im on the body, from the effects of which he died on the 10th inst:— Old cut- marks on jace; blue eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 37 years of age, red hair: wore a soft round hat, it is supposed dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. A Warrant is in the hands of the Constabulary at Limavady for his arrest. Limavady, June 12, 1877. ( 13177 o.— 23658.) DESCRIPTION of a man, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on he night of the 2nd Augast, 1877, in the barony of Ardee, parish of Mapastown, stolen a ewe and 2 lambs, which he sold in the fair of Crossmaglen, on the Srd August, 1877 ; the three animals have been since recovered :— Dark complexion, low set make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 35 years of age, brown hair and moustache; wore a low dark hat, bright tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; carried a large dark frieze overcoat across his arm. DBSCBIPTION of Thomas Ruddy, native of Foxford, < vho stands charged with having, on the night of the 27th July, at Aghamore, in the barony of Costello, parish of Aghamore, forced en entrance into Michael Waldron'a dwelling- house, assaulted his wife, and demanded money :— Gray eyes, regular nose, freckled complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 45 years of age, brown hair, sandy whiskers; wore a red necktie, an old dark twsed coat— sma'l piece torn off the cuff 2|- inches by 1 inch— dark cord trowsers, black frieze vest, strong good laced boots ; is a ragman and low butcher. Swineford, August 2, 1877. ( 13695 o.— 24309.) DESCRIPTION of Patt Ruane, native of Glencullen Lower, parish of Kilcommon, barony of Erris, who Btacds charged with having, on the 19th inst., assaulted John Shevlan, of same place, from the effects of which be died on the 2lst inst:— Has a heavy gait of walking; gray eyes, regular nose, very fair complexion, round face, very stout male, 5 feet 9 ' nches high, abput 33 years of age, fair hair, no beard or moustache: wears a soft low hat, dark frieze coat, and corduroy trowsers. Monaghan< DESCRIPTION of Michael Reilly, native of Clara- county Cavan, and John Rudden, nativa of Drum- condra, county Cavan, who stand charged with having, on the 29th March, 1877, in the barony of Dartree, parish of Currio, been of a party ( two of whom are in custody) who assaulted Patrick Brides, of Knox, at Corrackan, and inflicted wounds on him from which he has since died:— 1. Michael Reilly— Holds down his head when walking, and has a slouching gait; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow comolexioo. thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 40 yenra of age, dark hair: wore a jerry hat, dark coat, cord trowsers, dark vest; is a small farmer. 2. John Rudden— Face all shaved: gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion regular face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair bair; wore a low hat, dark coat, cord trowsers ; is a small farmer. Patrick Byrne ( rape) not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 22nd May, 1877. Roscommon DUBLIN CASTLE, 10th August, 1877. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about tbe hour of 1 o'clock, PM , on the 2r. d June last, James Young, esq., J p., was found dead on the avenue of- his residence, at Harristown, near Castlerea, having been murdered by some person or persons at present unknowns And whereas Their Excellencies the Lords Justices have, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of the said murder, offered a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the 11th June last, give such informa- tion us shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the said murder; and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. His Grace is also pleased to offer a FREE PARDON to sny person concerned in the said crime, other than the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as will lead to the conviction of the persons concerned with him in the crime. By His Grace's command, T. H. BURKE. The above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by Edward Wynne, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Castlerea, to those w*> o may bocome entitled to them undtir the conditions above mentioned. The special attention of the Constabulary i is directed to the following: X) K8CBIPTION of Thomas Hunt, ( mother's surnam Quigley,) native of Knockgranagh, who stands charged with having, on the 29th November, ult., in the barony of Leyny, parish of Achonry, murdered John M'Gloin, by fracturing his skull with a large stone:— Down- looking appearance, two upper front teeth large and prominent, high cheek bones, large heavy lips, sunken jaws, very broad shoulders; glaring black eyes, slightly cocked nose, sallow compexion, oval face, stout make, 6 feel 9 or 10 incnes high, about 27 or 28 years of age, black bair, small dark moustache; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest. Was in America, and lately returned from England, where he worked as a labourer. Has a pair of English- made navvy boots, with iron plates under toes, also a pair of light Wellington boots. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Boddy, native of Cap- pauniac, who stands charged with having, on the 30th July, 1877, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Templeaeiry, burglariously attempted to enter Ballydarrid Police Barrack, his face being blackened;— Large flat feet ; vulgar and awkward appearance ; gray eyes, thick nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 80 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, gray tweed vest; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Morty Gleeson, native of Bally- hiskea and James Fgan. native of Knockmore, who stand charged with having, on the 29th of May. 1877, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Nenagh ( town of Nenagh), seriously assaulted John Dwyer, of Carrigatoher, inflicting a bad fracture ol the skull, from the effects of which he died:— J. James Egan— Brown eyes, straight nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet 7 inches high about 24 years of age, brown hair; wore a round hat, frieze cjat, cord trowsers, tweed vest; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of 3 bullocks, the property of the Earl of Caledon, which were stolen from the lands of Cumber, pariah of Aghaloo, barony of Lower Dun- gannon, on or about the 26th day of July, 1877 :— 1. red colour, with white spots on flank, branded on right horn with the number 20. 2. Red colour, with some white spots through brdy, and white spots on jaw, branded on right born with the number itO. 3. DESCRIPTION of James Stafford, ( mother's surname Mary Stafford), native of Adamstown, county Wex- ford, who stands charged with having, on the 25th July, 1877, in the barony of Bantry, parish of Adamstown, maliciously burned the dwelling- house of his father, Peter Stafford :— Has a hollow spot on left side of his head from an old wound; belongs to Wexford Militia; blue eyes, cocked nose, pu'e complexion, thin face, slight make, 6 feet 8 inches high, about 36 years of age, brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat and trowsers, tweed vest; is a shoemaker.
