He will probably try to leave tho country for America, Australia, Trance, or Spain, and is believed to have a considerable amount of money in his possession. Description of a man who gave the name of WILLIAM HILDER THURSTON, charged with obtaining £ 1 10A, by means of a forged cheque, at Staplehurst,, on 25th ult. : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark com- plexion, small black whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a light grey mixture suit and round hard billycock hat; he stated that he was going to Paris to buy some horses. He took a ticket at Staplehurst Railway Station by the 11 p. m. mail train for Folkestone. Stolen from the person on 9th instant, during the Fire Brigate Competition and Athletic Sports at Watford: a double- case silver Geneva Watch, No. 119729, maker * Sims, Watford,' on works. Stolen from the person on 7fch instant, a silver lever Watch, much worn, cracked dial, seconds hand, no case spring, had attached a 10- carat gold Albert Guard, chain pattern, graduated at the ends, square locket on swivel, with bloodstone one end, red the other. Stolen from the pewon in a railway carriage, between Penistone and Bainsley, on 1st instant : a gold lever Watch, No. 12333, engine turned back, and monogram in centre ; a gold albert Chain, with Seal attached, white one side, black with white cross on the other. B1MEI1& Description of a man charged with house breaking at Budbrook, near Warwick, and stealing therein : a suit of black cloth clothes; a coarse round Jacket; a dark grey Coat, with pockets on the hips, and one inside breast pocket; a round jean Jacket, wet; two pairs of Trousers, one a ribbed cloth, and the other grey; three silk Handkerchiefs; a muslin ditto; and a grey- coloured Hat, with wire round the brim : he is about 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, rough appearance, and will probably be wearing some of the stolen property, as he left an old blue round iacket, and a black billycock hat behind ; he wore clogs. Information to be given to Mr, Superintendent Frankton, kenilworth, Warwickshire.— Urns- street, July U. Between 3 and 7 p. m. on 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of William Pugh, labourer, of Burghope, Wellington, near Hereford, was entered by the upstairs window, which was left open during the absence of the family, and stolen therein: a new pair of watertight Boots, nailed, and bad the maker's stamp on the sole in four places under the instep, and five places under the toes', without laces ; and a red silk Handkerchief. Two men who were along the road from Hereford to Leominster are suspected : the one a navvy, and the other a soldier, the navvy being the tallest, and wore a jimcrow hat, with the brim turned down, a white slop, and carried a bag or bundle on his back ; the soldier were a cap, with yellow band, jacket with yellow braid acros3 the breast, and trousers with red stripe. Stolen from Rodborough Common, near Stroud, during the night of 6th instant: a bay Mare, about 14 hands high, 5 years old, small star on forehead, white hind legs a little above the fetlooVs, and a little white on forefeet round the hoofs ; the property of Mr. Joseph Mortimer, of Rooksmoor, near Stroud. And a stiff- built black cart Horse, about 12 years old, about 15 hands higb, white star or white mark on forehead, a little white on nose, has a scratch on off side of withers, is healed over, but the marl: can be seen in the new j coat; the property of Mr. Joseph Warnre, of Rodborough, near Stroud. Stolen from a field at Silverdale, on the Eight of 4th instant : a bay Mare, 5 years old, about 14 hands 2 ioches higb, an old cut mark on forehead, small lump on left, knee, short tail, little white top of one ear and on the back. A brown Horse, 4 years old, 14 hands 2 inches high, small lamp under forelegs, small white spot behind one ear and on the back. Also stolen on the night of 8th instant: a light bay Horse, about 5 years old, about 13 hand3 2 inches high, dark mane and tail, small white star on forehead, and tail cut short. Stolen from Dartmoor, near South Zeal, South Tawton, Devon, about a month since : a black mare Pony, Dartmoor breed, 5 years old, about 13| hands high, tail cut Equate, a few white hairs on forehead, shod, and iu fair condition, the property of James Drew, South Zeal, South Tawton. £ 1 reward will be paid to any person giving such informa- tion as will lead to the apprehensioa and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen during the night of 29 th ultimo, from Scariabiick: a black horse Pony, about 13 hands high, aged, has been docked, white saddlemarks on back, and a little white on one hind leg, near the hoof, and blemished on one knee. Also a Whitechapel Drag, painted black, picked out with red ; two short brown Cushions in front, and one long one fixed to back seat; has the name ' William Freeman, farmer, sjcaris- briclt,' painted on the back, very faint. Stolen from Bickerley Common, Ringwood, between 2nd and 4th instant, the property of Richard Poulden : a black Gelding, about 14 hands high, 8 years old, small white spot under the saddle, bind heels white, broken knees, bushy tail, and in good condition. £ 5 reward will be given by' the owner on recovery of the horse and conviction, of the offunder or offenders. Absconded, charged with stealing a Cow ( recovered, having been sold in Darby Market) from Mr. John Garrett, of Draycott, near Risley, OIL 29fcb. ultioio : a man FIVIDCR the name of JAMES SMITH, alias THOMAS SMITH, alias JAMES GOODALL, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inchcs high, rather ^. slight figure, light complexion, light hair, whiskers, or moustache, and chin shaved ; dressed ia dark coat and vest, black and white check trousers, with stripe down side, much wom, and hard black billycock hat. He was at Sandiacre on the night of 28th ultimo, and said he had been a large farmer in Lincolnshire, also a gardener at Chelsea. He showed a photograph of himself and his two children, and a large number of pawntickets. £ 5 reward will be paid on apprehension and conviction of the offender. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. He is believed to be the same man as charged with stealing Sheep at Northampton. Description of ELIZABETH BYRON, alias ELIZA- BETH FORD, absconded, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, No. 1978, with gold albert Guard, long links, with appendage, a fox head on one Bide : she is 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark brown hair, very fresh com- plexion, dark full eyes, ears pierced for rings, the left ear being ripped, and a piece out; dressed in a light plaid dress, light shawl, and black straw hat. She works as a fustian cutter and factory hand, but will take employment as a domestic servant. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Wiiliams, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- etreet, July 11. Stelen from an officer's quarters, at the barracks, Sheffield, dnring the afternoon of 4th instant: about £ 4 in Money, a silver Geneva Watch, No. 34415, enamelled dial, maker J. W. Benson, Ludgate- hill, London; a gold twisted albert Guard, 9- carat, having 2 silver Indian Rings, a silver Six- pence, and a common watch Key attached. By CHARLES DALGLEISH, a gunner in the Royal Artillery, 27 years of age, 5 feet 10^ inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, and dark moustache; dressed in a brownish grey tweed suit, black felt hat, blue Necktie, and is believed to be wear- ing a pair of Wellington boots. A reward of £ 3 will be paid for his apprehension, and recovery of the property, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered. By a man who lodged in the house, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very light hair and complexion, shaved all round the face, turn- up nose, and small eyes ; dressed in a blue pilot cloth jacket, large buttons, black vest and trousers, much torn, soft billycock hat, and the stolen boots. Stolen between 6 and 7 p. m. on 5th instant, from the ' Half Moon' beer- house, Aylesbury : a large old- fashioned pair- case Watch, ' B.' and ' G.' engraved on outer case; a small silver Watch, a cornelian Brooch; a black Brooeh, with inscription round rim; a Turkish Crimean Medal, a pair of gilt Ear- rings, J34 in Gold, and £ 1 10s. iu Silver. Supposed by two men : one is 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, florid complexion, brown hair, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a dark cloth jacket, very much worn, grey cloth trousers, patched at the knees with different material, blucher boots, and dirty old white calico shirt; the other 25 years of age, 5 feet 4" inches high, long features, light hair, and clean shaved ; dressed in a long black coat corduroy trousers, black felt hat, and oxonian shoes; he travels the country repairing chiua and umbrellas. July 13 Stolen from tbe dwelling house of John Brooke, of Mill- street, Crewe, on 30th ultimo : 4 pocket Handkerchiefs, a Necktie, a pair of Spectacles, and a pair of Scissors, recovered. By GEORGE WARD, a labourer, of Bucknall, near Hanley, Staffordshire, 16 years age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, light brown hair, hazel eyes, and has a cut mark in centre of fore- head ; dressed in old dirty clothes, and cap, and a piir of old boots much too large for him. And JAMES HOLDEN, a native of Birmingham, a labourer, 17 years of age", 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, dark hair, and hazsl eyes ; dressed in old dirty clothes jjjand cap, and a pair of old boots, much too large for him, heel of lets boot cue out. He was convicted at Burslem on 14th October, 1873, of stealing 2s., and was sent to an Industrial School for 3 years. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Saxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, July 9. About 10 30 on the night of 2nd instant, a cash Box containing one .£ 10 Bank of England Note ; eight £ 6 Notes of the Lancaster Bank and Bank of England ( one of the notes has ' J. H,' on the back); and about thirty- five 5s. Pieces, were stolen from a bed- room in an hotel at Morecombe, by three well dressed smart looking men, two of whom are in custody. They were seen together at Blackpool last week, in coDipany with some. men from Manchester; they are supposed to be well known in Yorkshire, and to have been lately in the neighbourhood of Giimsby and Louth. Description of the man not in custody : about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 6 incheB high, fresh complexion, light sandy hair, slight mous- tache, and very little whiskers ; dressed in a grey tweed plaid suit, black billycock, gold Albert Guard, chain pattern, with a locket attached. Desciiption of the men in custody : one gives the name of WILLIAM PENDER, about 43years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather stout build, dark com- plexion, black hair and wniskers, chin and upper lip shaved, blue eyes, and a little bald top of head ; dressed in dark clothing, white shirt front, and black soft billvcock ; the other gives the name of BROOK, BOOTH, and JOBLING, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy complexion, sandy hair, whisker , and moustache, blue grey eyes, cut back of right thumb, first joint second finger left hand stiff, and smalt cut inside left hand ; dressed in grey tweed clothing, and bkek billycock. Information to be given at the County Police Office, Skerton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 6, Absconded on 3rd instant, from 6, Princes- road, Norbiton, stealing £ 35 in gold : a man, 23 yeais of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, dark tweed troupers ai.: d vest, and side spring boots. He is a gardner.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, July 6. Stolen from a travelling van at the ' Standard' public- house, Dover, on 20th ultimo : £ 30 in Gold, and two plain gold Rings. ' Maria Thompson' inside the same. By SARAH THOMPSON, 24 years of age, Bhort and slight, dark eyes and complexion, and full face. Accompanied by a boy, 4 years old, with light hair, and dressed in blue monkey jacket, Scotch cap, aad trousers fitting very tight. The woman travels the country selling brushes, and has a pedlar's certificate issued at Dover. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Sanders, Borough Police, Dover, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, July 6. Absconded from Longstock, charged with stealing from a dwelling- house a silver Watch ( recovered) : a man, lately discharged from the Rifle Brigade, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, and dark freckled face; dressed in uniform trousers, military boots, and black coat, too large for him. He was seen at Longstock on the morning of 27th ultimo. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bennett, Andover, Hants.— Bm- ss. re. et, July 4. Description of a man who absconded from Seaton Ross, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, on 26th ultimo, stealing a drab cloth Coat, a black cloth Vest, and a pair of light mixture Trouaers, with black stripes down the sides : about 29 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, very much sun- burnt, light hair and moustache, tattooed with a man and a cross on breaBt, a female on one arm, & e.; he^ will probably be dressed in the stolen clothes, as he left behind him a black cloth coat, vest-, and pair of trousers, all much worn. He is supposed to be a saddler, but was working as a brickyard labourer on the above date. Information to be given to Inspector Cusworth, East Riding Constabulary, Market Weighton.— Bow- street, July 4. Absconded on 29th ultimo, from Shepherd's Lane, Brixton, stealing £ 92 : a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, dark hair, sandy moustache, and small features ; dressed in short grey coat, grey trousers, felt hat, laced boots, is a clerk, and carried a black leather bag.— Metropolitan Police{ W Division, July 4. Stolen from a bedroom at Matlock Bath, on 30th ult. : a small white dimity Bag, containing seven Sovereigns, eight Half- sovereigns, £ 1 in Silver, and some Copper Money. By a lodger, who gave the name of EDWIN CRANE, and said he was a native of Peterborough, but then held a situation as clerk in a corn merchant's offipe in Liverpool: he is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, fresh com- plexion, hazel eyes, and is lame of the right foot, on which he walks on the right aide of the sole, and scarcely touches the ground with tbe heel. He left behind him a pawnticket for a silver Geneva Watch, No 24404, pawned with Alfred A. Loose, High- street, Wisbeac'a, on 29th August, 1876, in the name of E. Crane, for 10a. ; also a pawnticket for silver lever Watch, No. 22556, pawned with John L. and Fk. Morley, 43, Broad Bridge- street, Peterborough, in the mme of Edwin Crane, for £ 1 5e. ; also left at his lodgings six new Knives and Forks, round brown bone handles ; and two half dozan packets of Combs, one bfown, the othar white. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Sharpe, Police Station, Wirksworth, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.—- Bow- street, July 4. Description of JONAS WILDSMITH, late of Box- moor, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, charged with embezzling several sums of Money : he is about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, fresh and healthy com- plexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and hard felt hat; he has been employ ed by the Grand Junction Canal Company, and London and Midland Counties Carrying Company, and since he absconded has been employed by a carrier at Wakefield, Yorkshire. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent tsgate, Police Station, Hemel Hemp- stead, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow street, July 4. Description of ELIZABETH ELSON, alias ELIZA HEDLEY, or SARAH NELSON, charged on a warrant with obtaining 10?. by false pretences, from Lieutenant F. L. C. Reece, at Cawton, on SOth ultimo : she is 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair, hazal eyes, pale com- plexion, left front top tooth missing, cut mark on forehead and left cheek; dressed in light- coloured hat, turned up at one side, long dark jacket, and blue striped dresB ; she is of good address, and a native of Huby, near York, has been travelling the country for some time, representing herself aB a servant out of a situation; she haa been convicted at Darlington, Durham, Northallerton, and Knaresborough. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Park, Malton, or to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary, Kirby Moorside.— Bow- street, July 13. Description of J. STEVENSON ( name supposed to be fictitious) : about 50 years of age, 6 feet 1 or 2 inches high, dark complexion, fresh colour, rather long nose, dark hair turning grey, bald on top of head, stout build, no moustache ; dressed in dark clothes. He is going about the country representing himself to be the managing engineer for Mr. Brassey, the railway contractor. He is charged with obtaining £ 1 15s. by false pretences.
