Poliee Office, Middlesbrough, May 8, 1877. SCOTTISH POLICE. ' THE Museum in the Albert Institute here was burglariously entered at an early hour this morning, and several articles of vertu stolen therefrom. Access was obtained by breaking a large plate- glass window situated on the ground floor, at the back of the east end of the building, by which an aperture was made sufficient to enable a man easily to enter. The plate glass of two cases on the second floor, containing old coins, antique watches, & c., was also smashed, and the following articles were abstracted from them, vis.:— An old- fashioned gold repeating- wateh, horizontal, plain cases, maker— Martin, London; a gold verge capped watch, maker— Elliot, London ( outer cases not taken away); a very small gold French hunting watch, cases set with turquoise on both sides; a silver French repeating watch t a silver French alaram watch; a silver French Genera watch; a Dutch snuff- box, silver chased; a silver and shell snuff- box; an Indian jewel casket, in silver; a brooch in gold, with painted centre; a ladies' companion, ivory, inlaid with gold; 0 shillings, reigns of Geo. II. and Geo. III.; 4 shillings and sixpences, reign of Queen Anne; 2 ancient Roman coins, and 90 bronze and copper coins. The above articles were all Very o'd. There was a watchman on duty irsM6 the Insti- tute at the time, but he did Lot hear the noise of the glass breaking. Extensive stains of blood were left by the thief or thieves, and it is believed that ore or more of them most have been out somewhat severely about the hands. This circumstance may be o' considerable importat. ee in leading to tbe detection of the burglars. & A large quantity of gold, silver, and other coins', as well as other valuables which were in the cases referrecTto, were not removed. The stolen property is of considerable value on account < rf its antique character; but it is estimated that if the gold and silver of which the several articles consist were melted down, it would not be worth more than £ 20. The police are earnestly desired to use every effort for the purpose of recovering the stolen property and detecting the thief or thieves, and to communicate this information to jewellers, pawn- brokers, dealers in antique articles of jewellery, and others to whom the articles described n ay be offered for sale or in pledge.
