No. 5971 FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 1877. CONTAINING ' The substance of all Informations received in easts of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Person* charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurals as possibly of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. blue; a collar and open Crupper. A boy was seen riding a Horse of the above description along the canal side, iu the direction of Middleton, at about 3 am. on lO. h instant. £• 2 reward will be paid by the owner for the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the Horse and Harness. Information to ba given at the Detective Office, Town Hall ( Lloyd Street Entrance), Manchester.— Bow- street, April 13. Further particulars respecting the horse stolen from Tividale, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 4th instant : the horse has been recovered at Brentford, near London. It is supposed to have been stolen by a man, about BO years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, medium build, pockpitted, grey hair and eyes, scrubby beard turning £ rey, broad features, pimples on face, cut mark across nose, blue mark on one side of face near the eye, rather bowed in one le^, and shuffling gait ; dressed in an old pilot coat, dark vest, cord trousers, woollen muffler, and dirty greasy cap. Is supposed to be boating on some canal. Strayed from Wyke Green, Heston, on 6th instact: a chescut horse Pony, 6 years old, 13 hands high, zigzag strip © i down face in shape of letter ' S.', tail clipped to above hocks. feet; the property of George Mousley. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Kemp, Halesowen, near Bir- mingham, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 9. Farther description of BENJAMIN BIRCH, advertised in the Police Gazette of 2St, h ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a Mare at Yardley, on 23rd ultimo : he is about 23 j ear's of age, 5 feet 6 inches higu, dark complexion, hair, and eyes', slight build, pockpitted, and has lost two top front teeth. Travels the country with a covered Cart, with blue sides, drawn by a black Horse, with large knees, the cart sometimes has ' Ben Birch, Oxon' on the side, but when last seen had ' Eliza Smith,' written in chalk. Birch buys old iron, and sells salt, Bath brick, & c. He is accompanied by his wife ( a gipsy) and infant child. Stolen on the night of 9ih instant, from No. 14, Randolph- street, Cowley- road, Oxford : a double- case silver Geneva Watch, No. 13198, with a gilt Albert Chain attached; an Oxford mixture Coat, with two pockets outside and one inside breast pocket, three buttons down the front; a double- breasted Waistcoat, nearly new ; a silver Geneva Watch, with the glass out, ' J. W.' on the inside case. By a Militia- niau, 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 iuches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and a mark on his face ; dressed m the stolen clothes, Supposed a native of Maidenhead. Berks. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, April 13, Stolen on 8th instant, at Longworth: a black velvet Jacket, trimmed with fur ; a brown speckled felt Hat, with green plush feather, marked inside ' Elliston & Cavill, Oxford'; a white muslin Dress, a holland morning Dress, trimmed, with brown braid ; a black silk Polonaise, trimmed with black velvet; a blue silk Utnlr lla, a pair of Boots, and half a Sovereign. By two young girls who were traced to Oulharo, where they took tickets to Paddington. they were theu wearing the stolen property, one is about 20 years o£ age, 6 feet 3 inches high, good looking, has rough curly brown hair. The other is about 20 years of age. 5 feet 4 • r 5 inche3 high, rough sandy hair, fair skin, tuucii freckled. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Superintendent Reece, Faringdon, Berks.— Bcw- street, April 13. Absconded on 7th instant, from Bristol, charged with embezziiog £ 800 and upwards, the property of his employers : W. A. READ, commercial traveller for a wholesale grocer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet " inches high, fresh complexion, square face, double chin, very stout ; dleased when last seen in a dra. bbi. hh brown suit, and silk or felt hat, which he wears down over bis eyes, he cannot come downstairs in the ordinary way, but sideways. Was seen in Gloucester on the same iiigbt, and had a large sample case with him, which he booked for Paddington Station, i' 50 reward will ba given for his apprehension. Supposed will endeavour to go abroad. Stolen o* 30th ultimo, from 221, Euston- road: two ladies' Jackets, one black silk, one black cloth; a white woollen Shawl, a grey linsey Dress, a white Handkerchief lace round, marked ' J. B.;' and a pair of bronze and blua silk Slippers. Nunhead, under pretence of looking at apartments, and inflicted a number of - wounds on the head and face of the housekeeper, with some sharp instrument, took from a bedroom a small cable pattern gold albert Cbain, key attached, set with light coloured stone, and then left the house : about 35 years of age, middle height, frei. ii complexion, oval features, full dark beard ; dressed in dark pilotcoat, dark trousers, black soft felt hat, wore rings. JORDAN, absconded, charged with forging a cheque for the amount of £ 10 upon the Birmingham, Dudley, and District Bank at Birmingham, on 24th ultimo : be is 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, well built, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, rather small eyes, and sallow complexion. He left. Birmingham accom- panied by hss wife and two children. He v/ as employed in a solicitor's office, aud was respectably dressed. Stolen from the person at the Volunteer review on 2nd instant, at Houghton regis : a gold cased English lever Watch, bearing inscription ' Presented to Sub.- Lt. T. Robin- son '; also a gold double case Watch, capped aud jewelled, maker ' Bishop, Bunhill- row, London'; aiao a silver- cased verge Watch, maker ' Constable.' Stolen from the person at Gainsborough Fair, on 4th instant: a lady's silver Geneva Watch, No. 9277, it has a flowered dial, the seconds hand was off, and the minute liaud was bent, the inner case is brass. Absconded from Blaina on 24th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing 4 Half- Crowns, 3 Florins, and 4 Shilling Pieces, from the person of Mary Jane Evans: RICHARD PRITCHARD, alias HENRY LEWIS, alias KAYS, he is 29 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, proportionately made, sallow complexion, light hair combed up straight ill front, grey eyes, light saudy moustache, sup- posed to be a miner ; dressed in a light browu cutaway coat, pockets on the hips, dark seal- skin waistcoat, light cloth trousers, lace- up hoots, tips on the heels, cluui p » d in frout, white stand- up collar, small black necktie, and black rouud hat, the brim turning up a little in front. States that he is a land surveyor, and takes lodgings at respectable houses, where he manages to steal money and then absconds ; generally Carries two bonks in his hand with iiuitati' n gold peucil. He was convicted of fraud at Welshpool on 6th Jan.. 1871, . aud sentenced to 7 years penal servitude ; released on license 19th December, 1876. He is described in the Police Gazette . of 29 h December, 1876, having left bis home at, Netherton, Dudley, without repoiting himself. A photograph will be forwarded on application. Marsters,' two ' S. Marsters,' one ' S. Wright,' one has an eye in centre ; three gold scarf Pins, all of oblong pattern, containing hair, having respectively the following initials engraved on the backs ' J. M. P. to T. P.,' J. M. P. to K P.,' ' J. M P. to J. P.'; a quaint gold scarf Pin, oval pattern; a gold Piii, set with pearis, white hair in centre, ' J. Smith, at Houghton Regis, advertised in Police Gaxett. e ot 4th instant : two men were Been loitering abouS the neighbourhood about 12 noon on the diy in question, supposed to have ccme from London by train. One about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a light grey suit ( apparently new), and a felt hat. The other about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, sallow complexion, no whiskers or mouatache ; diessed in long black cloih coat, velvet collar, black silk hat. Had the appearance of a preacher. Infor- mation^ to be given to Mr. Superintendent Tydeman, County Police Station, Luton, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, Ap'il 13. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on 1st. instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Heals, of Highfield, Hempstead, was entered by some person, and stolen therein : a small round face Clock, in bronza case ; a grey tweed Coat, with side pockets ; and a pair of side- spring Boots, tos- cappad, nearly new.
