MUrDer AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. £ 50 reward will be paid for the apprehension or such information as will lead to the apprehension of WILLIAM CLARKE, alias WESTON, alias BURK, alias ROSE, alias SLENDERMAN, who is charged with three other men in custody, with the murder of Henry Walker, a gamekeeper, of Norton Disney, Lincolnshire, on the 30th ultimo : he is between 40 and 50 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, grey eyes, dark brown hair, dark complexion, long face, clean shaved, cut on right side of nose, thick lips, and slightly round shoulders, he is a brickmaker ; dressed in a long brown jacket with large patch on right shoulder, drab navvy slop underneath, fustian trousers, brown hairy cap, strong nailed boots, nearly new, and short leather leggings ; he is likely to make for a seaport. A warrant is in the hands of the Cbief Constable of Lincolnshire, to whom, or to any Otlicer of the Lincolnshire Constabulary, information may be given. — Bow- street, February 5. FORGEry. Absconded ou the 6th or 6th instant: FREDERICK MICHAEL RAILTON, charged on a warrant witli having on the 6th ultimo, at Blackburn, forged an Acquittance and Receipt for £ 73 3s. 9d. ; also other large sums of Money ; with intent to defraud the Phoenix Fire Assurance Company. He ia 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout make, round face, pale complexion, dark hair and slight dark whiskers, rather short neck, and a native of Blackburn, but at present is in bad health through drinking, & c. ; smokes cigars, and has a slight squint in both eyes ; usually dressed in grey overcoat, and black billycock hat. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to his arrest, will receive a reward of £ 25 on application to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Feb. 14. Description of three men, suspected of having presented forged cheques on the London and Westminster Bank for sums of £& and £ 10 each, purporting to be drawn by ' Frier, Mayer & Company, hop merchants, Southwark,' in London, and at Luton, Beds, and Harpenden, Herts : 1st, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, pale round face, fair complexion, light hair, no beard, whiskers or moustache, small features, and effeminate appear- ance ; dressed in thin dark colour overcoat, dark mixture trousers, coloured striped shirt, speckled cloth billycock hat, and boots much worn. Clothing generally shabby. 2nd, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, no beard, whiskers or moustache, pale face, and piominent nose ; dressed in dark blue, witney pilot coat, lavender- coloured trousers, high black hat, wore a carbuncle scarf pin, a pair of light- coloured gloves, and smart silk pocket hand- kerchief ( pink) no border, and carried a Bilk umbrella. 3rd, about 26 or 27 years of age, short and rather stout, light hair and whiskers, cut close down to chin, and flushed face; dressed in dark overcoat, dark cutaway underneath ditto, ditto trousers and vest, low crowned black deerstalker hat, yellow gloves with black stitching, and of smart appear- ance. Had with them an old brown leather portmanteau with two handles on the top. The cheques referred to were presented to brewers, and the police are requested to warn all persons in that trade, with a view to the apprehension of the above mentioned individuals. BUrGLArY house BrEAKInG. About 11- 30 p. m., on the 10th instant, the house No. 59, Lister- street, Hull, was broken into and entered, and stolen therein : a gentleman's gold Ring, large diamond in centre ; a lady's gold Ring, containing hair, curved on each side with roses, and has an inscription of a birth and death ; a lady's gold Ring, which has had hair in it; a gold Locket, to hold four portraits, opens in centre ; a gold Brooch, about size of a sixpence, containing light hair ; a gold breast Pin, set with blue stones, red stone in centre ; a gold Seal, cornelian stone ; a brass knuckle Duster, £ 13 in Gold, £ 1 in Silver, and 2 blue silk Neckties with white spots. By a man of the following description, who fired twice with a pistol at the owner of the house who pursued him, and escaped, about 38 years of age, dark complexion, broad set, dark whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; dressed in dark pea jacket, and soft billycock hat. £ 26 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender, and recovery of the property, or in proportion thereof. Between 6 p. m. on tbe 10th, and 830 a. m. on the 12th instant, the office of Mr. Frederick Pike, New Inn, Hall- street, was broken and entered, and the safe forced by means of burglar's tools, left behind, and stolen therein : four £ 5 Bank of England Notes, Nos. 29377, 8, 9, and 80, dated 22nd September, 1876 ; £ 12 10s. in Gold ; £ 3 2s. in Silver ; a Post Office Order, for 15s. 6d., from Dover ; five Spanish Coupons, overdue, detached from 3 per cent bonds, viz : £ 85, Nos. 21693 to 21732 inclusive; £ 12 10s, Nos. 32513,32514; £ 255, Nos. 24066, 9523, and 19529 ; £ 170, No. 10210; £ 85, No. 136; a Deed of Security, dated 9th October, 1858, for repayment of an advauee of £ 125 There was left behind a Hammer, muffled with wadding and leather, i aine on one side ' T. Turton and Sons, Sheffield,' on other tide ' No. 914,' warranted cast steel, witb ' S. W.' in triangle underneath, and a chisel, marked on each side ' J. & W. D.' which are supposed to have been used on some railway. £ 50 reward will be paid for any information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction cf the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or iu proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen from an office in Bolton, which had been broken and entered during the night of the 12th instant : about £ i worth of Postage Stamps, 18 receipt Stamps, 4 bottles of sherry Wiue, aud 7 bottles of Champagne. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Bolton, Borough Police Office, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 14. On the 25th ultimo, between 10' 30 a m. aud 4 p m., the dwelling- house of Thomas Whitney, of Clyro, was broken and entered during the absence of tho inmates, and Btolen therein : a brown cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, pockets each side, one outside breast pocket, buttons covered with black, a pair of black cotton Gloves in one pocket; a sleeved Waistcoat, dark tweed front, dark brown bone buttons, sleeves and back drabett, pockets outside each side, one inside pocket, lined with calico ; a blue woollen Guernsey, has several moth holes in it ; an unbleached calico Shirt, marked ' T. W.' in red cottoa ; a pair of knitted worsted Stockings; a soft brown billycock Hat, much worn ; a large old- fashioned double- cased silver Watch, very much worn, and has been mended in several places with red sealing wax, old steel Chain attached, with two brass Keys, one broken, and two blue Beads, No. of watch 8251, maker William Howard, London. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Radnorshire, Penybont, or to Sergeant Downing, Clyro, near Hay, Radnorshire.— Bow- street, Feb. 12, Stolen from the Drayman Inn, Bolton- road, Bradford, between 7 p m. on the 3rd, and 12 30 a, m. on the 4th instant, by means of breaking the latch of a bed- room window : £ 60 in Gold, a £ 10 Note, Derbyshirjsifcjnk ; several £ 5 Notes, Bank of England and Local N( jt4r^ W> deposit Securities in the Bradford Banking Company, on* for £ 400, one for £ 200, two for £ 100 each, and a cheque for £ 3 from J. Burniston, Sunderland, to William Murgatroyd, Bradford; a small dark brown leather Satchel, with steel chain about the size of a man's head, and has been in use for many years; and a puce velvet Purse, plain on one side, aud beaded on the other. The person who has committed the robbery has cut his hand, supposed the left, as a brown cloth driving glove with leather fingers, is missing, and the right glove left. Two men who called at the house about a month ago with gas burners to sell, are strongly suspected for this and similar robberies in the Riding. Stolen on the 4th instant, from a stable at Lee- street, Haggerstone : a brown Mare, 15j hands high, 7 years old, sore on off hind heel, off hind hip chafes, in good condition. — Metropolitan Police, N Division, February 9. Stolen from the person of a gentleman whilst drunk, in Crowe, on the 1st instant: a gold lever Watch, No. 19386, white dial, a small piece chipped off tho dial between the 6 and 9,' G. L. Stolen from a field at St. Weonards, between the 6th and 9th instant: 15 fat yearling Sheep, Ewes and Wothers, of the crossbred Cotswold and Southdown breed ; most of them are white faced, have long wool, and are not marked; the property of Mr. Henry Scudamore. £ 10 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of thy Sheep. Description of HENRY WARNER, alias CURLY, charged ou a warrant with stealing a quantity of Iron Fish Plates and Chairs ( recovered) the property of the Louth and Lincoln Railway Company : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, short nose with extended nostrils, black curly hair, lost his right hand, and has an injured left foot and ancle ; dressed in fustian coat and trousers, speckled cap. £ 2 2s. reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to his apprehension. Information to be given to Head Constable Roberts, Town Hall, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 14, Absconded from Bognor, about 2nd instant, charged with larceny : HARRIETT DORRINGTON, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed iu black alpaca dress, black cloth jacket, black bonnet. Information to be given to Superintendent Pratt, County Police, Chichester, Sussex who holds a wanant for her apprehension.— Bow- street February 14. Stolen ou the 12th instant, from the Gaiety Restaurant, Strand : two Bank of England Notes, one for £ 10, endorsed ' Henry Horne or Thorne,' aud one for £ 5; two Sovereigns ; some Silver ; a gold hunting Watch, maker E, Howard and Sons, Boston ; a gold Chain, long flat links; and a morocco leather pocket Book, brass clasp, containing a photo of John Buuyau's tomb, aud sevoral hotel Bills. Absconded, charged with stealing from a lodging- house at Tadcasttr, between 7 am. and 8 a. Ma. on the 13th instant, a brown Overcoat, nearly new, two pockets outside, aud one inside, black velvet collar, and the owner's name ' It. Pearson' inside the collar : a man, 40 years of age, 6 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, blown eyeB, fair hair, broken noBe, a shoemaker by trade, aud has been a soldier; dressed in a soft black billycock hat, black cloth trousers and vest, far worn, rough haiden apron, and supposed to be wearing the stolen overcoat. Informatiou to be given to Superintendent Kane, West Riding Constabulary, Tadcaster.— Bow- street, February 14. Absconded, charged with stealing from a public- house at Wetherby on 10th instant: an English silver lever Watch cream- coloured dial, black Roman numerals, steel hands, aud second hand, capped and jewelled in 12 holes, engine- turned case, ' J. W.' engraved on outer case, maker ' Purvis, North Audley- street, Grosvenor- square, London,' had attached a gold Albert, twisted pattern, with bar, one end with round ball on, the other broken off, and gold book- shaped Locket, 1- inch by J- iucb, blue enamelled cross on one side, and chased on the other, opens in two parts, and fastens with a clasp, has a slight scratch on one side, the property of a fellow lodger, John Wade : the name of the thief is RICHARD LEEKE, a convict on license, who is charged with failing to report himself to the Police at Thirsk, see Police Gazette of the 7th instant for his description, under license holders. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Kane, Tadcaster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 14. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement: CHARLES DURBRIDGE, a clerk, lately in the employ of Messrs. Morewood, of Smethwick : about 38 years of age, 6 ft. 4 ins. high, dark complexion, very black hair, whiskers and mous- tache, and has eruptions on his face, chiefly about his fore- ~ head ; ii generally dressed in dark clothes and tall hat. He has a peculiar gait in walking, and works his arms a great deal, and leans forward; is a native of Dorchester, Oxford- shire, where his father now lives. . He is supposed to have some property in Oxford. Information to be given to Ser- geant Asbury, Smethwick, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, February 12. Stolen on the 8th instant, from a bedroom in Park- place': £ 1 17s. Cd. By a man, about 45 years of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, stout build, and is badly ruptured ; dressed as a clergyman, with soft billy- cock hat, inverness cape, and rather old boots. Was carrying a small black portmanteau, and enquiring for lodgings. He booked by Great Western Railway, for Southampton, the same day. Information to be given to Superintendent White Trowbridge, Wiltshire.— Bow- street, February 19. Description of JOSEPH PENSON, labourer, of Shelly, who absconded on the 13th ultimo, charged with stealing an eight- day dial Clock, from the congregational school room. Chipping Ongar ; ho is 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, dark complexion, shaves clean, and walks very upright, has served in the West Essex Militia ; ho was wearing a soft felt black billycock hat, twill fustian jacket dirty corduroy trousers, leather straps rouud legs, strong lace up show, and a blue striped cotton neckerchief, Information POLICE GAZETTE. February 14 to bo given to Superintendent Simpson, Epping, or to In- spector Robinson, Police Station, Ongar, who holds a warrant for ltis apprehension.— Bow- street, February 9. Stolen on the 3rd instant from Balsall Heath- road-, Balsall Heath : a lady's gold English lever Watch, No. 7021, gold face and figures, engine turned case, a gold Chain, secret link, with go! d key in shape of a pencil attached. By a man who obtained abedfor tht; night, supposed name LAMBERT, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high,, fair complexion, brown bushey hair, no whiskers or beard, thick lower lip j dressed in grey suit, and deerstalker hat. £ 2 rewatd will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Super- intendent Mapp. Police Station, Kings Heath, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, February 9. Stolen during the night of the 1st instant, from the dwelling- house of John Harris, of Back- street, Tutbury black cloth Overcoat; a black cloth J acket; a grey cloth Jacket; a light brown Vest and pair of Trousers ; a white Scarf, with red spots ; a plaid woollen Shirt; a white cotton Shirt; a pair of Stockings ; a billycock Hat; and 4s. 6d. in Money. By a man, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, small moustache, has a sly downcast look, a blue mark across bridge of nose, and white scar on forehead; dressed as a navvy. Absconded, embezzling £ 7 6s. 8d., the monies of the Foresters Society, Westmorland Lodge, ' Westmorland Arms' public- house, George- street, Marylebone : GEORGE TIMS, 58 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, grey whiskers, eurl. y hair ; dressed in dark clothes, respectable appearance. Last known address, No. 16, Auerley- road, Battersea. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, bebiuury 9. Description of ROBERT ROWBOTTOM, charged with stealing a lady's gold lever Watch and Chain, also £ 83 lis. 3d. frotu trie dwelling- house of Thomas Poster, Moat Lane, Birmingham, on 20th ultimo : about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, dark sandy moustache, has a lump on ono side ol face, and left side of neck ; he is a gutimaker by trade. Informution to be given to the Chief Constable, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. Bout street, Febtuary 9. Dessriplion of a man who gave the name of GEORGE JACKSON, watch maker or cleaner, charged with larceny as a bailee, on the 1st instant : he is abont 60 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, hair and whiskers turning grey, stout build, and honey; dressed in dark reefer jacket, bound with braid, soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots. The watch is an Englich made silver lever, enginf- ttirned case. ' J. O.' on outer case, silver dial, gold figures, and jewelled in four holes In- formation to be given to Inspector Bushier, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract, who holds a warra. t for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, February 9. overcoat, lined with light grey cheviot, velvet collar, double- breasted, two pockets iu front, and one in the breast, maker Sinclair, John Dalton- street, Manchester, and wore a Coventry made silver watch, has the name ' Charles Henry Collins' upon the plate, No. 26831, and a silver albert Guard. It is feared some ill has befallen him. £ 10 reward will be paid by his friends to any person giving such information as will lead to his discovery. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, February 14. Found drowned in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, at Skipton, at 12 noon, on the 6th instant: a Man, 40 to 45 } vs. of age; 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, black hair, and brown whiskers rotund face ; dressed in a light brown cloth jacket, lined with green plaid, blue cloth waistcoat, lined with white cotton, moleskin trousers, striped brown and yellow cotton shirt, red ( faded) singlet with. black spots, red and white striped braces, lace- up boots, brass eyelet holes at the bottom and hooks at the top, and a brown and purple plaid silk necktie. He had the appearance of a navvy, Information to be given to Superintendent Exton, West Riding Constabulary, Skipton, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, February 14, Committed for trial at the assizes to be holden at Lewis, on the 26th instant, on a charge of larceny : THOMAS WRIGLEY, 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark brown curly hair, slight figure, he is an iron- moulder, and a native of Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire. JOHN ROBINSON, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, email dark whiskers, and slight moustache, he is an iron moulder, aud a native of Hanley, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Peerless, East Sussex Constabulary, Uckfield.— Bow- street, February 14, Committed for 7 days each, under the Vagrant Act, at Kendal: JOHN MURRAY, 34 years of age, 5 feet 4J inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, black hair, turning grey, cut mark on side of right cheek aud top of lip. States that he has come from Chipping near Clitheroe, Lancashire, and that he was born at Snow Hill, Preston ; dressed iu an old black cloth coat, trousers and vest, black billy ceck hat, aud wears a pair of clogs. And WILLIAM GREENWOOD, 36 years of age, 5 feet 7f inches high, brown eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, pockpitted, aud cut mark iueide left hand. He says he is a sawyer, and was born at No 2, Dumple- street, Scarborough, but has not been theiefor 10 years, and has come from Chip- ping near Clitheroe ; dressed in an old black cloth coat and trousers, brown cloth vest, black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots, Infoimation to be given to Chief Constable Wilkinson, Boro' Police Office, Kendal, Westmorland. — Bow- street, February 14. Description of WILLIAM KING, charged with stealing 8s. 6d., belonging to Jano Mattinson, at the borough of Hull, on the 26th ultimo : 20 years of sge, 5 feet 3 inches high, sallow complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and iu a fisherman. Was couvicted at the Hull Quarter Sessions, on the Cth o£ April, 1876, of felony, after a previous conviction. Infor- mation to fie given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yolks. — B'lv- sli e t, Februv y 9. FELOnies ( Not otherwise described). De.- uription of ALFRED SAVILLE, who is charged on a warrant with abduction : he is about 21 years of uge, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, thin build, daik brown eyes, black hair, clean shaved ; dressed iu blue pilot cloth overcoat, black trousers, brown sealskin vest, aud hard felt hat. He was engaged as a waiter at a music: hall. Information to be given to Chief Countable Jackson, sheffield, Yorkshire,— Bow- street, February 14. hand. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Oxford.— Bow- street, February 12. Description of HERBERT CORRINGTON, committed to Shepton Mallet Gaol for 3 morths hard labour, for larceny on the 9th instant: he is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9| inches high, sallow complexion, long features, prominent teeth, dajk hair and moustache, no whiskers, grey eyes, suffering from asthma ; dressed in a dark melton cloth over- coat, dark cloth jacket, vest, aud trousers, stiff bowler hat, lace up boots, grey scarf, and white muffler. From goods found upon him he appears to have been a reporter or a short baud writer; states he has been a land surveyor, aud that he is a native of London, and has been at the United Hospital, Bath, and has been lodging at Hotels, and going off without paying. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Gillbanks, Somerset Constabulary, Axbridge.— Bow- st., February 12. Charged with felony, and remanded until the 14th inst. : ROBERT IRONMONGER, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, red hair, grey eyes; dressed in a dark suit. Found in the possession of a man at Wingerwortb, on the 6th instant: a dark grey cloth Shawl ( supposed stolen) with a striped border and knotted fringe ; he is a navvy, and gives the name of ALFRED FOWLER alias PURK, 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, grey eyes, brown hair, sallow com- plexion, clean shaved, and is rather deaf ; dressed in a dirty tweed jacket, moleskin vest, cotton cord trousers, strong lace- up boots:, had on three shirts, two of them blue serge, and the other grey and white stripped cotton. States that he is a native of Halsford near Maidstone, last worked in a brick- yard near the tunnel at Manton, and lodged in No, 30 hut with his brother- in- law John Elton, and that he left there on the 29th ultimo, aud found the Shawl on the road near Not- tingham. He has been remanded until the 10th instaut.
