MALICIOUSLY WOUTOilvS, Absconded from Conisbrough, near Doncaster, on 7th ultimo, charged on a warrant with malicious wounding : MICHAEL alias JOSEPH RHODY, a labourer, 24 years of age, fresh complexion, freckled face, grey eyes, dark brown hair, slight whiskers, and proportionate build, has a piece bitten off the bottom of right ear ; dressed in dark mixture cloth suit, soft cap with peak and knob on top, and clogs or militia boots. He belongs to the 3rd West York Militia. Information to be given to Superintendent Astwood, West Biding Constabulary, Doncaster, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, February 2. On the 21st instant, there was found in a pond at Sharleston, a newly- boru female Child, tied up in a piece of white calico, with brown spots, about 3 feet long, and 2 feet wide, bound with black braid at one end, and repaired near the binding. It had probably been in the water 3 to 5 weeks. A verdict of' Wilful Murder against some person unkno wn' • was returned at the inquest. Description of a tramp who gives the name of JONA- THAN KIRBY, a native of Liverpool, ou remand at Stony Stratford police station till 2nd proximo, charged with arson : 26 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, walks lame, his right knee being contracted ; dressed in old dark cloth coat, grey tweed trousers, hard felt billycock hat, white shirt with blae stripes. He states he lived with his aunt at Northorpe, near Mold, Flintshire, from 1865 till 1868, and from the beginning of 1868 he lias been working in a colliery at Crook, Whitwell, Spennymoor, Whitby Hill, Frinden Grauge. and Whitworth, Durham, and from the beginning of 1876 he lias been on tramp, lodging at various tramp wards, Unions, and low lodging houses. Bank, Boston, aud 2 Cheques, one for £ 68 12s. 6d., drawn by William Bedford upon the aforesaid bank, and made payable to William Groom, or order, and the other for £ 46 12a, drawn by William Jackson, upon the Lincoln and Lindsey Bank, Sleaford. and made payable to William Groom, executor of the late John Jessop ; also a cheque Book, and a miscellaneous lot of tradesmen's Bills, & c. Stolen from the person in one of the waiting- rooms at the East Lancashire side of the Preston Railway Station, on the night of the 27th instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 8223. Stolen from the person between the 22nd and 26th inst.: a gold lever Watch, with white dial, gold hands, sunk seconds, maker B. Gaunt, Barnsley, No. 36982 ; and gold Albert Guard, curb pattern, 18 carat on each link, and spade ace Guinea attached. Stolen by means of housebreaking from the dwelling- house of Miss Davis, at Neithorpe, Banbury, between 28th December, 1876, and 1st instant: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1877. 3 silver Tea Spoons, old, marked ' B. l/. D.' 3 ditto ditto new. 2 ditto Table Spoons, marked ' R. M. D.' 1 ditto pair Sugar Tongs, marked the same. 2 ditto Salt Spoons. And About 30s. in Silver Money. Between 11- 30 pm. 25th and 6 30 a. m. on the 26th instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Mary Ann Jones, confectioner, 12, Victoria- street, Blackburn, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: a new black cloth double- breasted frock Coat, lap and breast pockets, lined in sleeves and shoulders with white flannel, the skirt with black alpaca, black covered buttons, has a tape at the back of the collar marked ' Davy and Son, Accrington and a new black cloth Yest, roll collar, single- breasted, black covered buttons ; the property of Thomas Samuel Jones. Stolen from the Warren Farm, Rudge, on the night of the 24tb, or early on the morning of the 25th ultimo : a Sheep, Shropshire Down breed, marked ' J. W.' with pitch on the right side. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall on conviction, receive £ 10 from the Claverley Association for the prosecution of felons, and £ 5 from Mr. John Wilson, the owner. Also stolen from a farm at Beobridge, Claverley, on the evening of the 25th ultimo : a Sheep. Two persons are in custody on charge of being implicated in the robbery. Who- ever will give such information as shall convict the offender or offenders, shall on conviction, receive £ 10 from the Claverley Association for the prosecution of felons, and £ 10 from Mr. William Wilson, the owner. Information to be given to Superintendent Christie, Bridg- north, Salop.— Bow- street, February 2. Found at Lymm on the 21st instant, and supposed to have been stolen by gipsies : a bay Mare, about 7 years old, switch tail, and in good condition ; and a dark brown Mare, about 14 hands 2 inches high, white star on forehead, brown muzzle, white from clune down back, white spots on ribs, near fore foot white, and a little white on each hind fetlock. Information to be given to Superintendent Aston, Sessions House, Altrincham, or to Sergeant Hollingworth, Police Station, Lymm, Cheshire.— Bow- street,, January 31. Stolen at Loose, Kent, on the night of the 28th instant: a dark brown gelding Pony, aged, 13 hands high, white spot on back, scar on inside of off hock, lecently clipped, and lame on fore feet; a villiage light pony Cart, stained wood, green cushions ; a set of pony Harness, brass turrets and covered buckles; an old riding Saddle and two horse Rugs. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Ovenden, Kent County Constabulary, Maidstone, Kent. — Bow- street, January 31. Supposed to have been stolen on the 23rd instant, from a meadow in the parish of Nacton, Suffolk : a dark bay German Mare, about 10 years old, between 15 and 16 hands high, white blaze down the face, and one hind leg white, has lately been blistered on the forelegs. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Woodbridge, Suffolk.— Bow- street, January 29. Absconded from Bolton on the 24th instant, stealing and taking with him a dark brown Mare Pony and Spring Cart. The Pony is aged, very poor, and clipped on the neck and shoulders. The Cart has the name of • H. Edwards, Wigan,' on it in white letters, painted dark green in the body, and red wheels. A man about 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, rather stout, round shoulders, light brown hair, and defective sight; dressed in dark grey coat and vest, fustian trousers, and old clogs and cap, all much worn. Absconded from Stroud on the 26th ultimo, charged on a warrant with larceny, as a bailee, of £ 2, the Monies of Joseph Daniels : SAMUEL BRIDGES alias . JONES, about 33 or 34 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight build, dark hair, eyes and complexion, large dark eyebrows, no whiskers, dark moustache, large Roman nose, and stoops when walk- ing ; dressed in dark grey jacket, black bowler hat, and generally wears an apron rolled up around his waist; he is a hawker of pictures and repairs umbrellas, and would most likely ba found in low beer or lodging houses. Supposed to be a native of Birmingham. Information to be given to Superintendent Hanbridge, Stroud, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, February 2. Stolen from a cottage at the Glidrid, near Chirk, on the 1st instant: £ 2._ By a man who took lodgings there on the 31st ultimo, stating that he was foreman over some men who were working on the Great Western Railway, between Cnirk and Ruabon : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 iuches high, sandy hair, no whiskers; dressed in a fawn- coloured cloth coat, black vest, dark trousers, lace- up boots, and black billycock hat. Description of JAMES WILSON, who absconded from Gelly Farm, Pontardulais, on the 18th ultimo, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 3, the property of Mr. John Powell, his employer : 18 years of age, about 5 feet high, rather stout, short neck, on the left side of which there is a scar, and generally wears a cravat or muffler to conceal it, stoops very much, pale complexion, light brown hair ; dressed in a shabby brown overcoat, pilot cloth trousers which are to large for him, black cloth cap with cheesecutter peak, aud high strong lace- up boots. He took a ticket at Pontardulais Railway Station for Euston Station, London, and left by the 5 p. m. train on the 18th ultimo. He was sent from the Marlborough- street Police Court on the 30th September, 1870, to the Middlesex Industrial School for beggiDg, from whence he was discharged about 2 years ago, since then he has been in the service of Mr. J. Williams, Surgeon, Abertillery. His father is supposed to be residing in some part of St. Paul's Churchyard, and is employed as a compositor in a printing office in that heighbourhood. He has several brothers and sisters in London, one of his sisters who is married is residing at 20, Verulam- street, Grays Inn- road, and a brother is living in the same street, also a brother of his formerly dwelt at 36, Liquorpond- street, Grays Inn- road. It is supposed that he is now with some of his relatives in London. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Harris, Llanelly, or to Police Constable Davies, Pontardulais, South Wales.— Bow- street, February 2. Description of FREDERICK HOLMES, alias HONNEY, charged with stealing at Daventry cn 19th. instant, a blue cloth Overcoat, 2 dogskin Vests, and 2 pieces of Cloth from the shop of Mr. Applebee, the Coat and Cloth, have been recovered, having been pawned at Birmingham : he is 27 yeais of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, full face, broad chest, short neck, sallow complexion ; dressed in dark clothes, is a slioefinisher, a native of Northampton, and is well known in Stafford, Leicester, Litchfield, Birmingham, Norwich, and Derby. Information to be given to the Borough Police, Daventry, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 31. J. E. O'HARA, alias JOHN WILSON, alias FORTES- CUE, medical student, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th instant, has been apprehended, and now remanded at the Borough Police Station, Reading, until the 5th prox. In his possession were found a number of Pawntickets for Articles pledged as follows : April 4th, 1876, with George Lief, 22, Church- street, Sheffield, a pair of Trousers for 3s., in the name of Turton. By a young man who had been lodging in the house, about 17 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair cut short, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in cloth cap, mixture tweed vest and trousers, white linen shirt, and may be wearing the stolen Jacket and Boots which will be rather small for him. February 9 field : JAMES COLLIER, a thrashing engine driver, 35' or 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches . high, proportionate build, light or sandy hair, has an impediment in his speech, and lost an eye tooth; most likely will be found wearing a new Buit of blue pilot clothes. His father, who is a small farmer, recently lived near Uttoxeter, but now resides near Burton- on- Trent. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hill, Brownhills, near " Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 31. Absconded on the 25th instant, from Abergavenny, charged with stealing ,£ 14 10s. in Gold, the property of Charles Jones : THOMAS WHITE, about 26 years of ago, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, dark hair, small whiskers and moustache, and scurvy on both hands; dressed in a black cloth coat and waistcoat, grey plaid trousers, hard bowler hat, and patent leather shoes ; he is a miller, a native of Cam, near Dursley, Gloucester- shire, and has worked at Malvern. Absconded, charged with embezzling £ 15, the Moneys of the rev. William Strickland, of the Roman Catholic Church, St. Giles, Oxford : —. TALBOT, alias —. BROWN, 34, to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, thick fair curly hair, full pale face, blue eyes, ratiier slouching gait, throws his head back, and his nails arc bitten very much. He has been well educated, and may be heard of at theatres ; he described himself as a scene painter, and was last seai at Belgrave mansions, London, on 6th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Oxford.— Bow- street, January 29. Absconded on the 20th November last, from 9, Lincoln's Inn Fields, embezzling£& 7: JOHN MILTON STEGGALL, a solicitor's clerk, late of Bassem Park- road, Shepherd's Bush, 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, florid complexion, curly auburn hair, Bandy moustache, scar on cheek, round shoulders, and swings his arms very much ; dressed in a brown ulster coat, and felt hat; last heard of at Lombard- street, City. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, E Divi- sion, January 29. Description of ARCHIBALD McKAY, a mussel hawker, who absconded from Burton- on- Trent, on the 20th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing 11 Fowls, the property of Thomas Griffiths: he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet high, dark brown hair, very dark moustache, no whiskers, has had the tops of second and third fingers of left hand cut off, the nail of the little finger of left hand partly cut off, on which he usually wears a piece of wash leather ; he has learnt the trade of wood turning, but generally hawks mussels or fried fish. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 29. FBAUD8 41D AGGRAVATED MISMMKAWOIJBE. Obtained by a false representation on 27th instant, from a jeweller at Folkestone : a small silver Geneva Watch, crystal face, ' J. T.' on inside of back case, probable number 66506. By a man, 20 to 24 years of age, brown hair, no whiskers, slight moustache; dress, broWn suit, black felt hat Supposed the same as wanted at Dover. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Wilshire, Town Hail, Folkestone, Kent.— Bow- street, January 31. Description of JOHN HAYWARD, alias HOLLI- WOOD, charged with obtaining 2s. by false pretences from Thomas Ralphs : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, rather sandy hair, small whiskers on the chin, oval face, of smart active appearance, walks very erect, but with swagger- ing gait; supposed dressed in dark mixture tweed coat Bedford cord trousers, light overcoat, and bowler hat. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Gough, Police Station, Ellesmere, Salop, who holds a warrant for Ins apprehension.— Bow- street, JanvMry 29. Description of JAMES BENNETT, charged with obtaining £ 5 10s., by uttering a fictitious Cheque, on the National Bank, on the 6th instant: he is from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, dark brown hair, aquiline no3e, and tuft of hair on chin ; dressed in a dark mixture ulster overcoat, and billycock hat, Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead,* Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 29. Further information respecting FREDERICK C. S. BENNETT ( advertised in Police Gazette of the 21th instant), charged with uttering a fictitious Cheque at Coventry : he has a mole on left cheek, on right side of neck, on top of left shoulder, and on each arm, and a scar on first finger of left hand. He was convicted at Liverpool of embezzlement, and at Manchester, in January 1873, of obtaining money by false pretences, and sentenced to 15 months imprisonment and 7 years police supervision, also to terms of imprisonment, at Great Yarmouth and Knutsford for failing to report himself to the Police. Information to be given to Head Constable Norris, Coventry, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, January 29. Obtained on the 27th instant, from several jewellers in Dover, by false pretences : a lady's f- plate gold English lever " Watch, No. 5380, gold face, black silk Guard attached ; a small silver Geneva Watch, plain dial,, Touchon, Geneva' on dial; a very small gold Geneva Walch, ' 1X77' scratched on inside case, gold and blue hands, gold dial, and engine- turned case ; aiid a gold Geneva Watch ( since found pledged). By a man, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 5 Inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers, and very little moustache ; dressed in light brown or drab- coloured suit, and black felt hat. He is of respectable appearance, and represented that he had been sent for watches which had beea left for repair. He is also charged with a similar offence at Folkestone. Remanded till the 6th instant, charged with night poaching and assaulting the police at Kinver, Staffordshire : RICHARD PREECE, alias PRICE, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, no whiskers or moustache, has the appearance of a pugilist, anchor, chain and ' 1859' on left arm, ring on second finger of left hand, and ' R P-' on back of same hand ; he says he was born at Brewood, Staffordshire, formerly he kept a brothel in Wol verhampton ; he is a well known poacher, and it is supposed that about 18 years ago he was sentenced to 10 years penal servitude for fowl stealing, he has resently been iiying at Kidderminster; he is an iron worker. Information to be given to Chief Constable Congreve, Police Office, Stafford.— Bow- itreet, February 2. Description of CHARLES CHEVALIER, a criminal lunatic, who escaped from Powick Asylum, near Worcester, on 30th ultimo : about 33 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, but appears shorter, stout build, dark hair, turning grey, nearly bald, dark beard and moustache, dark complexion, grey eyes, rather long sharp nose, has a cut under right eye, scar right corner of mouth and round right side of neck, wound mark back of neck, mole, boil mark, and substance on back, several sets of cupping marks on left side, wound mark right thigh ; dressed in a blue pilot coat, tweed trousers and vest, and billycock hat ; clothes probably marked on the linings ' W. L. A.' He is a native of Holland, has been in America, and speaks English fluently but with a foreign accent. Will probably represent himself to be a tradesman, and will steal articles of Clothing from his lodgings. He is sometimes violent. He is the same man who was advertised in the Police Gazette of May 31st, 1876, and following dates. £ 2 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Checketts, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, February 2. Missing from his home since 25th ultimo : ASHTON NELSON, of Welton, an apprentice to a joiner, 16 years of age, about 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, rather stout and bow- legged, an pld scar inside of top lip, caused by a fall when a child ; dressed in a short blue pilot jacket, worn at elbows, white cotton jacket, grey- mixture cloth vest, cord trousers, blue cloth cap with peak, strong lace boots, and grey wool shirt. It is feared some ill has befallen him. 10s. reward is offered. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellerker, East Riding Constabulary, Wei: on. - Bom- street, February 2. Further information respecting GEORGE WOODVINE or WOODFINE, who escaped from Mold Gaol on the 28th January, 1875, as advertised in Pclice Gazette of 1st Feb,, 1875 : 23 years of age, but looks 4 or 5 yrs. older, 5 ft. 4-| ins. high, brown eyes, black hair and whiskers, rather down- looking, and is a labourer. Since he has been at large he has married, and on the 18th instant was traced to Chester- street, Birkenhead, where he had been lodging for several days with his wife and mother- in- law, and two children about 6 or 8 months old. The wife is about 23 or 24 years of age, of small stature, light hair, and has lost one eye ; she wore a red and black plaid shawl, and a hat. The mother- in- law is about 40 or 45 years of age, supposed to be wearing a striped shawl, and is shabbily dressed. He was convicted at the Herefordshire Se ions, FRANCIS GUNNING, under police supervision for three years from 21st instant, has failed to report herself at Oxford police station : she is 25 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, stout build, full round face, sear from abscess on right side of chin, scar on right cheek, dent on forehead over left eye, left ear torn at bottom, and scar on first finger left hand. She was convicted of larceny at Maidstone Quarter Sessions, 21st October, 1875, and sentenced to 15 calendar months' imprison- ment, and 3 years police supervision.
