Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is gives, it is indispensably necessary that nn Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, « the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with She Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, alt Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia < no" ld be forwarded en War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Ktinor, as shove, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. foreign accent. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to his apprehension by Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, January 17. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery : EDWIN FLECK, alias J, E. HOLFORD, E. COOPER, W. E. WILSON, WILLIAM EDWIN DREW, & E. GRAHAM : 30 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, dark hair, brown moustache, whiskers shaved off, slim build. Recently employed as clerk in the leather trade at Bermondsey. He is supposed to be accompanied by a woman about his own age and height, fair complexion, and rather stout. She is likely to be wearing a drab hat, an ostrich feather of same colour, and two small green bird's wings on each side. In- formation to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, January 17. MIJBDEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUHDII6, On the 21st instant, there was found in a pond at Sharleston, a newly- born female Child, tied up in a piece of white calico, with brown spots, about 3 feet long, and 2 feet • wide, bound with black braid at one end, and repaired near the binding. It had probably been in the water 3 to 5 weeks. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person unknown' was returned at the inquest. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, Wakefield, Yorkshire.— Bov>- street, January 26. Further information respecting the attempted murder of JOHN MORRISON, gamekeeper to Francis Monckton, Fsq, M. P,, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th ultimo : three of the offenders, WILLIAM HUMPHREYS, alias JOLLY, WILLIAM PRICE, alias CHECKER, and THOMAS ALLMAN, alias TIMER, all of Shrewsbury, have been committed to the Stafford Assizes for trial. The following men ( who have absconded) are charged on warrants with the attempted murder: JOHN WILLIAMS, alias GEORGE WILLIAMS, alias WORCESTER DICK, alias BRUMMY, a labourer, supposed a native of Worcester, 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, light hair, no whiskers, grey eyes, oval face, good features, has a cut mark on right eye, which causes a slight cast, anchor and bracelet on right arm, stands erect, and walks with a slovenly gait. He served for a short time in the Shropshire and other Militia Regiments. Has been frequently convicted of poaching in the counties of Worcester, Hereford, Salop, Denbigh, Flint, Chester, and Stafford, Has worked as a navvy in those counties, and also in Lancashire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Leicestershire, and is well known to railway contractors and timekeepers. RICHARD OWEN, alias DICK THE NAVVY, alias WOODBINE, alias BAKER, a native of near Westbury Salop ( his wife and infant child are supposed to be in Derby), 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, very active, light hair, no whiskers, good features, and supposed to have worn, or to be weating, ear- rings ; dresses like a navvy, and wears heavy boots, with toe and heel plates, has a sealskin cap, as well as a dark cloth cap. Has worked at engine driving, horse driving, and other work on new lines of railway ( with Williams, alias Brummy). He is known to be the possessor of a considerable sum of money, supposed in a Derby Bank, and has landed property falling to him near Pontesbury, Salop. These men are likely to tramp the country seperately in search of work, and will probably be found sleeping at railway huts or low public- houses, lodging- houses, casual wards, or canal boats. The same reward is offered. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Stafford, or ot any Police Station in Staffordshire. — Bnw- ttreet, January 19. EOTBERY AID LAROEWY FSOM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 17th instant, from the person of William Lewis, whilst drunk at Westbromwich : an old silver verge Watch, double cased, No. 4754, engraved on outside case ' W. Richards.' Information to be given at the Police Office, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 26. Stolen from the person of Samuel Toy, of Cemetery- cottage, West Smethwick, about 11' 30 p. m. on the 10th inst. : a silver lever Watch, No. 8919, maker's name Winkel, West Bromwich, sunk seconds, gold hands, not capped, engine- turned, shield on back, bow broken off. Information to be given to Sergeant Asbury, Police Station, Smethwick, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 17. when he left home in old black soft felt hat, old black coat, cord trousers, much worn at bottoms, and old shoes. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Tydeman, County Police Station, Luton, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 24. On the night of the 12th instant, the Booking Office of Great Ayton Station, on the North Eastern Railway, was broken into and stolen therein : 3s. in Silver and a brown paper Parcel addressed to ' W. Hutton and Son, Gt. Ayton,' containing 18 pairs of Carpet Slippers, 20 pairs of children's patent ankle Shoes, 5 pairs of boys' elastic side Boots, marked ' J. N. L. E.,' and 3 pairs of ladies' Boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Constabulary Office, South Stockton, or to Acting Inspector Severs, Stokesley, North Riding, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 19. Further information respecting the housebreaking at Wrexham, and the property stolen at Wrexham, as adver- tised in the Police Gazette of the 15th instant, the person stealing the articles previously described, has been apprehen- ded at Oswestry, and the property recovered in both cases : he gives the name of CHARLES FYNCH, a native of Ben Johnson- street, Liverpool, a bricklayer, 28 years of age, 5 feet 44- inches high, stoops a little, oval face, rather high cheek- bones, slightly pockpitted, fair complexion, dark brown hair, small tuft of hair on chin, and moustache, small grey sore eyes, slender build ; states that about 3 months since he was working in a railway tunnel at Birkenhead, now in con- struction ; he is remanded until 10 a. m. on Monday next. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- street, January 19. FORGERY. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery : FRED- ERICK FORD, a clerk, 23 years of age, medium height, dark eyes, sallow complexion, no whiskers, mole on chin, scar on forehead, and of respectable appearance. Supposed to have in his possession a number of £ 100 New South Wales 40c. Bonds, coupons attached, No. 20388 to 20408 inclusive, series ' U 3.' A reward of £ 100 will be paid for his appre- hension, and 20 per cent on all Bonds recovered. Warrants have been issued against BALTZ AR HENRY FRITHJOFF STALHAMMAR, generally known as HENRY STALHAMMAR, for uttering a forged Bill of Exchange for the sum of £ 218 0s. lid. ; and another forged Bill of Exchange for £ 230 12s. 6d. He is from 46 to 48 years of age, 5 feet 6 to 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, slightly tinged with grey, full beard and whiskers of the same colour, brown eyes, short sighted, wears spectacles, has a habit of continually replacing them with his hand, believed to be a Swede, and has a peculiar and rather BURGLARY A WD EOUil BREAKING. Between 1 p. m. on 19th, and 7 a. m. on 20th, the joiner's workshop, Somerford Park, was broken and entered, and a quantity of joiner's Tools stolen therein ( since recovered) : by a man, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion and moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in black cloth jacket, small rough coat underneath, dark trousers, rough cloth cap with flaps and strings on the top, and lace- up boots with patent fronts; he is supposed to be a joiner. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. John Marlow, of Gregory- street, Loughborough, by means of house- breaking, during the absence of the family, between 2 and 4' 30 p. m. on the 22nd instant : 3 Sovereigns, eight half Sovereigns, and £ 3 in Silver. 1 lady's Albert, made of hair of two shades, with five gold bits, book, and swivel. 1 black enamelled Locket, triangle shape, ' Not lost, but gone before' in gold letters, gold back, with photograph of a young man inside. 2 ivory Wrist Studs, back of one missing. 1 black Mourning Locket, carved with flowers. 1 set of gold Studs, chased with flowers. 1 pair of jet Bracelets. 1 jet Chain, with large links in centre, and swivel at the ends. 2 silver Brooches, one round, one square, with one stone out. 1 small common yellow Brooch, set with hair. 1 common ditto, set with three white stones. 1 ditto, set with lilies of the valley. 1 brass swivel ditto, set with hair on one side, the other side black. 1 old German silver Watch,, both hands loose and fastened with paper. 2 gilt Needle- casss, flower on one, the other plain. Also from the dwelling- house of Mr. Walter Hull, the adjoining house : 1 lady's silver Geneva Watch, with seconds hands, No. 28847. . 1 silver lever Watch, with seconds hands, engine- turned, cases worn nearly smooth, cream coloured dial. 1 jet Locket, with flower in centre. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with hair. 1 figured gold Keeper Ring. 1 gold plated Brooch, set with three scarlet stones. 1 gold plated Locket, in shape of a Bible, with photo- graph of a gentleman. 1 gold plated Locket, set with white glass. 1 jet Albert Chain, large and small links. 1 carved ivory Brooch, with imitation fuchsia flowers upon it. 1 brown leather Purse, with , white lining and three compartments. £ 1 13s. 6d. in Silver. Stolen during the night of the 22nd instant, from a stable in the rear of Kenninghall- road, Lower Clapton : an iron grey cob Horse, 14 hands 2 inches high; a light dog Cart, painted dark green, picked out with light green; a set of silver plated Harness ; a Rug ; a Horse Cloth ; part of a grey Rug; and a Sack.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, January 26. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from outside the ' Kepple' public- house, Kepple- street, Chelsea : a chesnut Horse, thick mane, clipped, trace high, brass mounted Harness, and light spring Cart, since found.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, January 26. Stolen on the 19th instant, from a meadow at Palace- road, Streatham : a dark chesnut Mare, risiDg 5 years, 15 hands, star on forehead, long coat, shod.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, January 24. Stolen between the 20th August and 5th November last, from the Hill Grazing, on the farm of Derry, in the parish of Comrie, Perthshire : about 40 blackfased Lambs of the past season, under half of right ear cropped off, and red keel mark across the shoulder ; about 40 aged Sheep marked on the ears same as the la?; bs, an inverted ' < 3' burnt on left horn, the figures from ' 1 to 5' to indicate their ages. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Perthshire, Perth, who will pay a reward for the recovery of the sheep and appre- hension of the ofifeader or offenders.— Bow- street, January 22. Found in Great Berkhampstead, at 10 30 p. m. on the 14th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark chesnut cob Mare, white star on forehead, three white spots on the back, and tail cut square; it appears to be of the Russian breed. Information to be giveh to Inspector Goodyear, Great Berkhamstead, Herts.— Bow- street, Jan. 19. Absconded, charged with stealing 12 Sheep, recovered, on the 15th instant, the property of Mr. White, of Little Witley, the sheep were sold in Worcester Market on the same day in the name of Williams ( supposed fictitious) : a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and small dark whiskers. He was respectably dressed in long dark or blue overcoat, dark grey trousers, black bowler hat, light coloured muffler with spots, black leather leggings, and carrying a light- colour mackintosh coat on his arm. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Checketts, Worcester, or to Superintendent Hardman, Great Witley, near Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 19. Stolen from a field at Sound, near Nantwich, during the night of the 6th instant: a bay cart Gelding, 3 years old 15 hands 2 inches high, black points, near fore foot white from fetlock joint, without shoes, long mane and tail, and a white star on forehead. Also stolen a new white webbing Halter. £ 5 reward will be paid on conviction. of the offender or offen- ders and recovery of the horse. Stolen from a shop at Middlesbrough, on 23rd instant : £ 2 10s. in silver and copper Moneys : by a boy, about 13 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, light hair, fresh complexion, full round face, stout made, and rather bow- legged ; dressed in dark jacket, speckled cord trousers and vest, old Scotch cap. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Matilda Thompson, at Leek, on the morning of 22ud instant: a black and white plaid woollen Shawl. a do. with black stripes across, an alpaca Umbrella, 4 white Aprons, marked ' 3. A. andL. Davenport,' a fancy Basket, with cover. By a man who had obtained lodgings for the night, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion and moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in black cloth jacket, a small coat underneath, dark trousers, and rough cloth cap with flaps and string on the top, and lace- up boots with patent fronts. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 26. Description of GEORGE WILLIAM CLARKE, alias GEORGE HAINES, an engineer, who absconded on the 20th instant, charged with stealing at Thursford, on or abouti the 10th instant: a quantity of Brass Castings, a Lathe Head and Rests, sundry Tools, and other Articles; the pro- perty of his trustee in bankruptcy ; he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionately built, dark com- plexion, hair and eyes, small dark moustache, little or no whiskers, and eyebrows nearly meeting ; dre sed in a dark monkey coat and vest, light mixed or check trousers with dark stripes down the sides, dark chummy hat, and spring- side boots ; and had with him a dark overcoat. Information to be given to Superintendent Murrell, Police Station, Walsingham, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- stre « t, January 26. Stolen iu Middlesbrough : 2 gold Watches, one of which was found pledged, at Stockton- on- Tees on the 18th instant, the other is ndt recovered, which is a lady's gold horizontal, gilt dome, No 44426, maker J Richardson, Middlesbrough. By JOHN HENRY HUMPHREY, a clerk, 23 yeais of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, small dark whiskers, shaved at the end of chin, and of slender make; dressed iu dark frock coat, dark cloth tiousers, silk hat, or a brown billycock hat. He is a native of York, and is a great frequenter of billiard rooms. Information to be given to Chief Coustable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, York- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bew- street, January 24. Absconded from Warrington, charged with stealing from a dwelling- house at 8 45 p m, on 19th instant, a silver lever Watch, English, No. 6761. ergine- turned case, dent on back of outer case: HENRY SMITH, 21 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, daik hair, small whiskers and moustache ; dressed in black cjoth suit, black hard billy hat, and low shoes, & c. He obtained lodgings at the house he robbed under pretence of bejng an engineer's draughtsman, and stated that he had obtained employment as such at Dallam Forge here. He had in his possesssion two coloured draw- ings of colliery machinery which he left behind him, they however are not the woik of a skilled draughtsman, but that of a mere learner, and have only been used by him as a decoy to obtain lodgings iu respectable houses. He will likely dispose of the watch. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, January 24. Stolen from a house on the 19th instant : a black velvet swinger Coat, much worn on left shoulder ; and a black cloth shooting Coat, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, nearly new. By a man who lodged in the house two nights, and left at 6 a. m. : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, and brown eyes ; dressed in a pilot jacket, red plush vest, cord trousers, imitation seal- skin cap, and strong boots ; he said he was a ppt hawker, and came from Over, Cheshire. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bono- street, Jan. 22. Stolen on the 18th instant, from No. 27, Angus- street, Deptford ; a f- plate Geneva Watch, No. 50525, ' Ellen Souter and Thomas Ward,' scratched on back; a silver Geneva Watcb, minute hand deficient; a blue, diagonal Coat, a grey tweed Vest, and a pair of dark cloth trousers. By a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion and hair, slight moustache, bad front teeth, one arm injured ; dressed in black pilot jacket, dark vest, dark cord trousers, heavy lace boots, and black cloth cap.— Metropolitan Police, R^ Division, January 22. Absconded on the 15th instant, embezzling £ 11 lis., from No. 4, York- terrace, York- road, Islington : a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, light hair and moustache ; dressed in dark brown overcoat, dark rest and trousers, black felt hat, he is a butcher.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, January 22. Absconded on the 18th inst., from Llantillio Crossenny, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 10 10s. in Gold, the property of James Davies : a man who gave the name of KEY, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers, and small moustache ; dressed in a light brown coat, sealskin vest, dark striped trousers, lace- up boots, and black bowler hat; he had a silver watch, with gold guard chain attached, and is of respectable appearance. In- formation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, or to Superintendent Freeman, County Constabulary, Aber- gavenny, Monmouthshire. - Bow- street, January 22. Stolen on the 18th instant, from No. 12, Sandwich- street, Burton- crescent: a beaded Purse, containing £ 6 14s, in Gold and Silver. By a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion and hair, parted in the middle, thick lips; dressed in black overcoat, cloth boots, and high hat, wears several rinss, and an albert chain; a native of Germany.— Metropolian Police, E Division, January 22. Absconded from Halesowen, on the 3rd instant, charged with stealing a suit of grey Clothes and a pair of elastic- side Boots, the property of David Rollason, a fellow lodger : JOSEPH SOUTHALL, a horse nail maker, a native ot Dudley, 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, stout make, round featuies, light hair, and is deeply pockpitted ; he is likely to be wearing the stolen clothes, and to seek employ- ment at his trade. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Kemp, Halesowen, near Birmingham, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 22. Description of J. E. O'HARA, alias J. E. WILSON, charged at Reading with stealing on the 9th instaut a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, No. 5, blue enamel back with picture in centre ; a gold Guard with a gold Locket, a gold Cross and other Trinkets attached; and a pair of gold Ear- rings. He is about 22 years of age, medium height, dark complexion, hair and moustache, and slight whiskers, rathe* dark ; dressed in dark overcoat with velvet collar, daik trou- sers, and hi^ b silk hat; he is of good address, and is believed to have been iu a hospital as a student. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berks, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, January 19. Absconded, charged with stealing thirteen £ 1 Notes, of the Commercial Bank and Bank of Scotland, between the lst aud 3rd instant, from a dwelling- house at Callander, Perth, occupied by James Page, shoemaker, his employer : JOHN SMITH, a journeyman shoemaker, a native of Stirling, of Irish desceut, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7| ius. high, dark hair, small thin dark whiskers and moustache, dark complexion, dark eyes, thin face, Blender make, has a smart appearance, having served in the army; dressed in dark shabby shooting coat, dark vest, dark corded cloth trousers, ragged on legs, dark cloth cap, with double peaks, and leather boots. He left callander on the 3rd instant, by the 12 noon train, for Kirkintilloch, and left there the following day for Glasgow, in company with a shoemaker about ' the same age and height as himself.
