Absconded from South Shields on the 8th icst., charged with forging two Seamen's Advance Notes for the sum of £ 5 each: CHARLES BUTCHER or BALTER, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, very dark brown hair, imperial, and heavy moustache, and stout make ; a Dutchman; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, grey tweed waistcoat, black serge trousers, and patent leather boots. Absconded from Stockton Heath, on the 4th instant) charged on a warrant with wounding Alfred Broady, of " Walton Superior, on the 4th instant: THOMAS HART, a horse dealer, 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow com- plexion, black hair, brown eyes; dressed in a green shooting coat and vest, light woollen cord trousers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots. He has been in custody at Stockport and other places on various charges ; he attends fairs. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Steen, Town Hall, runcorn, or to Sergeant Beblington, Police Station, Stockton Heath, near Warrington, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 10. Absconded, charged - with wounding P. C. Dent, of the Durham County Constabulary, on the 30th ultimo, at Water- h ® use, County of Durham : JOHN CUNNINGHAM, a miner, 2L years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, sore, ginger hair, cut short, end of forefinger off right hand, and scar on right shoulder blade ; dressed in blue double- breasted reefer jacket, striped tweed trousers and vest, light grey cap with peak, ears turn up, strong lace boots, and light scarf. Information to bo given to Superintendent Oliver, Police Station, Consett, Durham.— Bow- street,, Jan. 5. On the night of the 30th November last, John Morrison, j Head Gamekeeper to Francis Moncton, Esq, M. P., was attacked by five poachers at Crateford, near Brewood, in the j county of Stafford, one of whom fired a gun with intent to murder him. Two of the offenders, WM. HUMPHREYS, alias ' JOLLY,' and WM. RICE, alias ' CHECKER/ of' Shrewsbury, have been apprehended and committed to the i Stafford Assizes. The following men ( who have absconded) are charged on warrants with the attempt to murder : THOMAS ALLMAN, alias ' TIMER,' native of Shrews- bury, 29 years of age, 5 feet 6J inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, slight j • whiskers, left hand cut off at wrist, to which he can fix an | iron hook or an iron knob, he usually carries his left arm in his trousers or jacket pocket, The hook or knob is : screwed into a block fitted with a brass plate, and a leather case covers his fore arm, and is strapped above the elbow under his jacket. Dressed either in cloth plaid woollen or corduroy trousers and vest, washed nearly white, blue cloth cap with peak of same material, button on top, may wear a navvy's drab Blop, which ties round waist with running tape. He is likely to be in possession of a pawn ticket for his watch and clothes. Has worked at navvy work, horse driving, and boating, and is well known in Shropshire, Cheshire, Flint- shire, Herefordshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire, and Staf- fordshire. JOHN WILLIAMS, alias ' WORCESTER DICK,' alias • BRUMMEY,' a labourer, supposed native of Worcester, 28 years of age, 5 feel 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, light hair, no whiskers, grey eyes, oval face, supposed to have a cast in one eye, tattooed on right arm with anchor and bracelet, and has a cut mark on forehead over right eye. RICHARD OWEN, alias ' WOODBINE,' alias ' LITTLE DICK THE NAVVY,' supposed to be native of Salop ( his wife and child reside at Derby), about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, very active, light hair, no whiskers, full face, and good features ; supposed dressed in a dark jacket, moleskin or bedford cord trousers, with buttons at bottom of legs, sometimes wears a sealskin cap or a dark cloth cap with cloth peak, and strong navvy boots with toe - and heel plates. The following dogs may accompany the above men : a brown rough - haired dog, crossed with sheep and greyhound, 11 months old, answers to ' Charley,' attached to Allman a dark brindled greyhound- like Dog, 10 months old, answers to the name of ' Lion,' attached to Owen : and a black grey- hound- like looking dop', 2 years old, answers to the name of 4 Snap,' attached to Williams. These men are likely to tramp the country in search of navvy or boat work, and' will probably fee found sleeping at railway huts or IQH public- mGBBSSMT MB IAEOMY WMMM fMl P1 ® S © 1L Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough of Bolton, about 4 p. m. on the 8th instant: 20 Sovereigns. By a man of the following description, who left in the gentlemans possession 95 Hanoverian medals : about 55 years of age 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather sallow complexion, rather stout made, prominent grey eyes, rather dark hair, grey whiskers, long sharp features, and speaks the Staffordshire dialect; dressed in blue cloth Albert overcoat, black cloth shooting coat and vest, dark mixture trousers, black billycock hat, lace- up boots, stand- up collar, white shirt front, black tie, and of shabby genteel appearance. £ 1 leward will be given for such information as will lead to the apprehension! and conviction of the offender, and a further sum of £& for the recovefy of the money or in proportion thereof. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bcw- sireet, January 10. the dwelling- house of Mr. F. R. Wilkinson, schoolmaster, Bradly Green, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a rough blue Overcoat; a black cloth Coat, pocket inside breast, and two in skirt, supposed maker ' J. Haighton' insi de collar in yellow letters ; a black cloth Vest, much worn ; a ditto, without collar, nearly new; a ditto, dark plaid tweed ; a pair of Trousers of the same material; two pairs of black cloth Trousers; a pair of light summer Trousers, all without linings ; four calico Shirts, with linen wristbands, one plait down the front, button hole for atud at the top; and a black and grey striped Shawl. Supposed by a tramp, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high ; dressed in black billycock hat, and dark clothes; she was seen going in the direction of Congleton, on the 4th instant. Information to be given to Sergeant Evans, Police Station, Bradley Green, near Congleton, Cheshire. — Bcno- street, January 8. During the night of the 27th ultimo, Maylard farm- house, in the parish of Llanbister, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein: four Bank of England Notes, dated Liverpool, 10th August, 1875, Nos. 9.9565, 99566, 99567, and 99568 ; and £ 7 10s. in Gold. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wheeldon, Penybont, Rad- norshire.— Bcw- itreet, January 8. 1E1AKI IS, Description of JOHN MIDDLETON, alias WYNN, charged with breaking and enteiing the dwelling- house of, Sarah Finney, Cherrington, Salop, on the 1st instant, and stealing therein : one silver Wa'ch, value £% ( since recovered); 16 years of age, 5 feat 3 or 4 inches high, very light curly hair; dressed in moleskin jacket, white slop, corduroy. trousers, jimcrow hat, and strong lace- up boots; he is a farm servant, but has lately been working at a brickyard. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Ivins, or Ser-: geant Hayward, County Constabulary Office, Wellington, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 10. Stolen by means of house- breaking at Leatherhead, on | the 31st - ultimo, the property of Alexander McCormick: about £ 50 in Gold, Silver, and Notes ; four gold Brooches, three with hair, one silver; three lady's gold Rings, one plain, another with blue stone, and the other with pearls ; a[ gentleman's gold Ring, with bloodstone ; a gold Locket ; and i a Scent Bottle, with silver top. By JOHN LONGHURST, | 17 years of age, 5 feet higti, light brown hair, fair com- i plexion, and round features; dressed in brown overcoat, j with velvet collar, black double- breasted coat, grey trousers j and vest, lace- up boots, and black fels hat, and generally wears a white wrapper round his neck. Information to be given to Superintendent Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking, or to Inspector Redford, Leatherhead, Surrey, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bino- street, January 10. Between 12 a. m. on the 27ih and 11 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the cottage of John Smith in the pirish of Evesbatch, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a dark Jacket, nearly new, two outside pockets in skirts, a small ticket pocket and inside breast pocket, sleeves lined with pink ana body with thin black material, and three black covered buttons down the front; a black cloth Vest, without collar, three outside pockets ; and u daik Necktie. Suspicion is attached to a tramp, who was begging in toe neighbourhood oil the 30th ultimo. He is between 30 and 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, ( supposed) brown hair, and whiskers under the chin ; dressed iu a light coloured coat with large white buttons, and black jimcrow cr hard hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Ovens, Police Station, Brom- yard, or to Sergeant Smith, Police Station, Cradley, near Malvern, Herefordshire.—- Bovr- ttreet, January 8. The dwelling house of Mr. Joseph Evans, Hope- street, West Bromwich, Stafford, was broken aud entered between the hours of 10 30 p. m. 4th, and 7 a. m, on the 5th instant, and stolen therein: a hand sewing Machine, Original Victoria, No. 13091 ; a long black ribbed Overcoat, black velvet collar, seam down the back and sides, two pockets on hips, one outside left breast, one inside light breast; a woollen Antimacassar, stripes of white and amber joined together with crimson; a sofa Cushion, covered with green damask, and tassels, amber, green, and black. Stolen from a stable at Brynele, parish of Nantcwnlle, during the night of the 6th instant, the property of Mr. David Edwards : a bay mare Pony, five years old, hair rubbed off above the right eye, crupper mark very deep in the hair, long switch tail, and newly shod. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire.— Bow- it'eet, January 10. Stolen in the parish of Ellesmere, Salop, on the 2ndinst.: two Heifers ; the property of Henry Pearce, recovered. By a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair, sandy whiskers, and fresh complexion; dressed in brown mixture cloth clothes, dark scarf with a horse- shoe pin in it, hafdT& sick felt hat, or sealskin cap ; he hv l. a ring on one little finger, set with a brown stone, and had iii his pos- session several foreign Coins. He can speak Welsh, and stated that he was a native of South Wales, and once kept a publichouse in Swansea. He sold the Heifers by auction in Ellesmere Smithfield the same day. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop, or to Sergeant Gough, Police Station, Ellesmere, Salop,>— Bow- street, Jan. 8. Stolen between the months of July and November last from the farms of Coillachra and Portnellan, on the Banks of Loch Katrine, in the parish of Callander, Perth : about 100 black faced Sheep, consisting of Ewes, 2 year old Wedders, and Ewe and Wedder Hoggs, the greater number of them having the initials • M. G.' in tar on left side, all burned on right side of nose thus 1 /,' the aged sheep had the points clipped off both ears, and the young stock had the fore- half cut out of each ear, and a bit cut out under the right ear. ,£• 20 reward will be paid by the Chief Constable of Perthshire, to any person who v/ ill give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the Sheep, aud conviction of the offenders or offenders.— Bow- ttreet, January 8, Charged with stealing from a field at Ward End, near Birmingham, cn the 20 ultimo : a yellow Heifer, with scissor mark on right lump, and a Hereford Cow, with two scissor marks between rump and hip. WILLIAM WHEELER, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh com- plexion, dark hair, slight moustache, and slight build ; he is a slaughter man. RICHARD PARKER, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, clean shaved, slight build ; a cattle drover.' Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham, who holds a warrant for their apprehension. — Bow- street, January 8. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from a stable at the rear of 298i, High- street, Camden Town : a light bay cob Mare, a light spring Cart, and 2 set3 of Harness, both brass mounted. Supposed by two men, one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, long features, dark curly hair, no whiskers, speaks with a Norfolk accent; dressed in dark overcoat, high black bat; appearance of a horse coper.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, January 5. 4 LM. Description of WILLIAM THOMPSON, late an assistant overseer at Cleator, who absconded, charged with feloniously and fraudulently embezzling the sum of J434 13*. 6d,, which was entrusted to him by his employers, it is believed he has a large sum of money in his possession in gold, also a valuable gold hunting keyless Watch, plain face, No. 9926, maker Robert Sutton, Whitehaven ; he left ' Cleatcr on the 14th, ai; d y; as last seen on Westminster 2 POLICE GAZETTE. January 12 Bridge, Londen, on the 15th December last, he is a native of Buckie, N. B, w litre ho has a brother, and some other relatiTes in ibe rottuty of Banff: he is about 32 yews of age, about 6 fret 8 inches high, proportionate figure, very black eurly hair, whiskers, moustache, and beard, sallow com- plexion, wears spectacles, and is very near sighted, and dresses well. Information to be given to Superintendent Bird, Constabulary Office, Whitehaven, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, January 12. Stolen on 22nd November last, from 3C, Connaught- square: a gold Bracelet, set with a large emerald in centre and two diamonds; a large diamond Brooch and Locket, three pendants, small neck Chain attached,;. five gold Kings, one half he op, set with' five large diamonds, one three emeralds, one four opals, one black enamel mourning with a small diamond in centre,, one grey enamel with five pearls and one diamond in centre, shape of a forget- me- not plain silver Ciuet Stand ; six Forks and seven Table Spoons, plain silver ; one ditto, embossed handle, crest a bent arm and. hand holding a rod ; a japanned tin Cash Box ; £ 17 10s., a bunch of patent Keys; and sundry Documents and Memoranda. By HENRY FULLER late of Charles- street, Portland ' own, Princes- street, Edgware- road, and Peartree- street, Goiwell- road, 21 years of age, 6 feet, 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, hair and small moustache; dressed in black cloth overcoat, light grey mixture under ditto, and trousers, black round felt hat, red tie, and side- spring boots, he is a painter, who returned the Keys and Documents by post from Chatham, and is now believed to be play ing a whistle as an itenerant in the country. He may assume the name of JONES; is in the company of two or three musicitns, playing banjo and concertina. One of the party has recently died. £ 40 reward will be p<; id by Mrs. Burd, of the above address, to any person who will give such information as shaft lead to the apprehension of FULLER and the recovery of the property or in proportion to the amount recovered. Absconded on the 3rd instant, from Smith and Song, Book Stall, Woodford Railway Station, embezzling £ 7 : a man 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, long light brvwn hair and moustache, no whiskers, and bow- legged ; drested in blue overcoat, pockets on hips, dark mix- ture trousers, and hard square top felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, January 10. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, in Long Eaton : a silver Geneva Watch, crack on dial between the figuros 11 and 12 ; and a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, toecapped, four buttons en each side. By a man, about 47 years of age, 5 feet, 6 inches high, round face, pale complexion, grey whiskers, shaven chin, rather stout, is a tailor by trade ; dressed in black cloth frock coat, black trousers, light grey vest, top hat, and blue necktie with white stripes. Has a habit of carrying his right hand up to his breast. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, Litchurch, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, Januay 10. Stolen from a farm house at Hemlington, near Middles- brough, during the night of the 6th instant, the property of Mr. Edward Walker, farmer : a pair of strcng lace- up Boots, neatly new, and a pair of drab worsted Stockings. By a man who lodged in the house one night, 22 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light complexion, little pock- marked, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed, in a cap, corduroy trousers, and supposed the stolen boots, as he left a pair of old clogs behind. He has the appearance of a miner or labourer. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Simpeon. Description of SAMUEL LLOYD, of Leddington, near Dymock, Gloucestershire, but; late of Woolhope, charged on a • warraut with stealing two Geese, recovered, at Upton Bishop, on the 3rd instant; the property of Chas. R. Joseph, Esq. He is a farm labourer, 35 years of age, 5 feet 3j inches high, medium build, round features, pale complexion, black hair and whiskers, meeting nnderchin, and blue eyes; dressed in dark grey jacket, white slop, cord trousers, and. black bard felt bat, " He has been convicted of poultry stealing in Here- fordshire and Monmouthshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Ross, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Eo">- ftreet, January 10. Stolen from Moorhampton, Abbey Dore, on the 3lst ultimo : a new pair of watertight Boots; a double- breasted moleskin Waistcoat, with small whits buttons; a brown cloth Jacket, two pockets outside, and one ioBide skirt. By a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, pale face, black hair, small black whiskers, cut short all round chin, and slightly pockpitted ; dressed in sleeved waistcoat, black back and sleeves, and plush breast, brown cloth vest, cord trousers, black jimcrow hat, and strong laee- up boots. Carried two bundles in blue handkerchiefs. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Hereford, or to Sergeant Phillips, Abbey * Dore, nr. Hereford.— Row- street, January 10. Description of CHARLES F. BAKER, a packer or assistant iu the carpet trade : 28 years of age, about 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender figure, pale complexion, very near sighted, wears speciacles, very dark hair, whiskers ( about an inch long) and moustache :— charged with stealing a single- breasted black cord Coat, with two buttons; a ditto ditto Vest, with collar; and a pair of light- coloured tweed Trousers, heavy material. May have also in his possession: a blue nap Overcoat ; a darn steel melton ditto; a tweed Shooting Coat, Trousers, and Vest, heather mixture; and a pair of small blue and red check Trouser. He may be wearing some of the above- described clothes. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne, Northumberland, who holds a warrant for his appreheasion.— Bow- street, Jan. 10. Stolen from a dwelling- bouse, at Ttieakstone, on the 7th instant; the property of Henry Spetch : a blue pilot cloth Topcoat, nearly new, man's size, velvet collar, black horn buttons, two pockets and small ticket pocket outside, and lined with black and red plaid ; and a pair of strong Boots, nearly new, man's Bize, brass eyelet holes, and large square- headed nails in soles and heels. By an Irish labour er, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and hair, full dark beatd, stout figure, and a labourer ; dressed in an old soft black fait hat, old cotton cord tiqusers, roughly mended with small twine, blue jersey, aud stolen Coat and Boots. Wath, near Ripon, North Riding, Yorkshire.— Bown » Mt, January 10, Abso nded from Hednesford on the 2nd instant, charged with stealing 16 yards of black silk, the property of David Hallyburton: THOMAS MORGAN, pairter, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 menus high, medium build, fresh complexion dark hair and eyes, large black moustache and imperial, full face, large high forehead, smart appearance, and steps quickly when walking ; dressed in dark pilot cloth jacket with velvet collar, green plaid cloth trousers with fly fronts, double breasted vest of same material, black silk necktie with blue stripe, bard black telt hat, and elastic side boots with buttons ou fronts, all new except boots, He formerly resided at 25, Bridgwater- street, Clarendon- square, London, where it is likely he may be found. Information to be given to Super- intendent HilJ, Police Station, Brown hills, near Walsall, or to Sergeant Cockerell, Police Station, Hednesford, near Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension— Bow- street, January 10. Absconded on the 4th instant, from Hanover Church Regent- street, embezzling £ 10 18s. : a man 58 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers, turning grey, slightly bald, with tattoo marks on left arm. He is a pensioner from 109ih Foot.— Aietropolilari Police, C Division, January 8.
