INFORMATIONS. auburn hair, blue eyes. He is a running man, known in the Midland Districts, and has been convicted for poaching. On the 14th ultimo the Dead Body of a Male Child, newly born, was found on the road side near Tunstall Hill, in the county of Durham, wrapped in a piece of blanket, a small piece of cotton, and part of a dark blue petticoat. At the Coroner's Inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown,' was returned. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire— Bow- street, January 3. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUnDING, Absconded, charged with wounding P. C. Dent, of the Durham County Constabulary, on the 30t, h ultimo, at Water- house, County of Durham : JOHN CUNNINGHAM, a miner, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, hlue eyes, sore, ginger hair, cut short, end of forefinger off right hand, and scar on right shoulder blade ; dressed in blue 1 double- breasted reefer jacket, atriped tweed trousers and vest, light grey cap with peak, ears turn up, strong lace boots, and light scarf. Information to be given to Superintendent Oliver, Police Station, Consett, Durham.— Bow- street,, Jan, 5. On the night of the 30th November last, John Morrison, Head Gamekeeper to Francis Moncton, Esq , M. P., was attacked by five poachers at Crateford, near Brewood, in the county of Stafford, one of whom fired a gun with intent to murder him. Two of the offenders, WM. HUMPHREYS, alias ' JOLLY,' and WM. RICE, alias ' CHECKER,' of Shrewsbury, have been apprehended and committed to the Stafford Assizes. The following men ( who have absconded) are charged on warrants with the attempt to murder: THOMAS ALLMAN, alias ' TIMER,' native of Shrews- bury, 29 years of age, 5 feet 6J inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, slight whiskers, left hand cut off at wrist, to which he can fix an iron hook or an iron knob, he usually carries his left arm in his trousers or jacket pocket The hook or knob is screwed into a block fitted with a brass plate, and a leather case covers his fore arm, and is strapped above the elbow under his jacket Dressed either in cloth plaid woollen or corduroy trousers and vest, washed nearly white, blue cloth cap with peak of same Material, button on top, may wear a navvy's drab slop, which ties round waist with running tape. He is likely to be in possession of a pawn ticket for his watch and clothes. Has worked at navvy work, horse driving, and boating, and is well known in Shropshire, Cheshire. Flint- shire, Herefordshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire, and Staf- fordshire. JOHN WILLIAMS, alias ' WORCESTER DICK,' alias ' BRUMMEY,' a labourer, supposed native of Worcester, 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, stout build, fresh complexion, light hair, no whiskers, grey eyes, oval face, supposed to have a cast in one eye, tattooed on right arm with anchor aud bracelet, aid has a cut mark on forehead over right eve. RICHARD OWEN, alias ' WOODBINE,' alias ' LITTLE DICK THE NAVVY,' supposed to be native of Salop ( his wife and child reside at Derby), about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, very active, light hair, no whiskers, full face, and good features; supposed dressed in a dark jacket, moleskin or bedford cord trousers, with buttons at bottom of legs, sometimes wears a sealskin cap or a dark cloth cap with cloth peak, and strong navvy boots with toe and heel plates. The following dogs may accompany tho above men : a brown rough - haired dog, crossed with sheep and greyhound, 11 months old, answers to ' Charley,' attached to Allman ; a dark brindled greyhound- like Dog, 10 months old, answers to the name of ' Lion,' attached to Owen : and a black grey- hound- like looking dog, 2 years old, answers to the name of ' Snap,' attached to Williams. These men aro likely to tramp the country in search of navvy or boat work, and will probably be found sleeping at railway huts or low public- houses, lodging- houses, or casual wards. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offenders, or a proportionate sum for such information as shall lead to the conviction of either of them. Absconded from Bedworth, charged with wounding Police Constable George Cluley, ef the Warwickshire Con- stabulary, on the 24th ultimo : JESSE CROMPTON, a miner, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, BUKSLaa- S iSOWs^ BREAKING. Between 12 a. m. on the 27th and 11 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the cottage of John Smith in the parish of Evesbatch, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a dark Jacket, nearly new, two outside pockets in skirts, a small ticket pocket and inside breast pocket, sleeves lined with pink and body with thin black material, and three black covered buttons down the front; a black cloth vest, without collar, three outside pockets ; and a dark Necktie. Suspicion is attached to a tramp, who was begging in the neighbourhood on the 30th ultimo. He is between 30 and 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, ( supposed) brown hair, and whisker* under the chin ; dressed iu a light coloured coat with large white buttons, and black jimcrow or bard hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Ovens, Police Station, Brom- yard, or to Sergeant Smith, Police Station, Cradley, near Malvern, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, January 8. The dwelling house of Mr. Joseph Evans, Hope- street' West Bromwich, Stafford, was broken and entered between the hours of 10 30 p. m. 4th, and 7 a. m, on the 5th instant, and stolen therein: a hand sewing Machine, Original Victoria, No. 13091 ; a long black ribbed Overcoat, black j velvet collar, seam down the back and sides, two pockets on ; hips, one outside left breast, one inside light breaBt; a woollen Antimacassar, stripes of white and amber joined together with crimson; a sofa Cushion, coveted with green j damask, and tassels, amber, green, and black. Information , to be given to Superintendent Woollaston, Police Office, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 8. During 9 p. m. on the 3rd. aud 10 a. m. on the 5th inst., . the dwelling- house of Mr. F. R. Wilkinson, schoolmaster, j Bradly Green, was broken and entered, arid stolen therein : | a rough blue Overcoat; a black cloth. Coat, pocket inside breast, and two in skirt, supposed maker ' J. Haighton'| inside collar in yellow letters; a black cloth Vest much worn; a ditto, without collar, nearly new; a ditto, dark plaid tweed ; a pair of Trousers of the sa in material two pairs of black cloth Trouser. ; a pair of light summer Trousers, all without linings ; four calico Shirts, with linen wristbands, one plait down the front, button hole for stun at the top; and a black and grey striped Shawl. Supposed by a tramp, about 40 years of age, 6 foot 8 or 9 inches ; igh; dressed iu black billycock hat, and dark clothes; she was seen going in the direction of Congleton, on the 4th instant. Information to be given to Sergeant Evans, Police Station, Bradley Green, near Congleton, Cheshire.— bow- street, January 8. During the night of tbo 27t't ultimo, Maylard, farm- house, in the parish of Llanbister, was broken into, and tho following property stolen therein: four Bank of England Notes, dated Liverpool, 10th Auui, v, 1875, Nos. 99565, 99556, 99567, and 99568 ; wid £ 7 10s. in Gold. Information to be given to Chief Constable WheeLdon, Penybont, Rad- norshire.— Bow- street, January 8. During the night of the 27th ultimo, . he Parish Church of Burton, Cheshire, was broken and entered and ransacked, but nothing stolen. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead. Cheshire.— Bmo- street, January 3. During the night of 27th ultimo, a cottage at Hoo, Kent, was burglariously broken aud entered ar d stolen therein : an old- fashioned German silver Watch, with a dent in buck ; a Pocket Knife, with toothpick, cork screw, file and two blades ; a small ditto with white handle : aid four blades ; a small square brass Locket, containing 3 or 4 Photographs; and about 10s. in Coppers, 2a. in Farthings, 5s. in Threepenny and Fourpenny Pieces, and £ 1 in other Silver. Supposed by a labourer, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, light complexion and hair, and a few light whiskers ; dreBsed in monkey jacket, fustian trousers, black cap, and heavy lace shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, Janwy 3. Between 11 p. m., on 29th, and 5 a. m., 30th ultimo, tha house of James Wells, watch cleaner, of Church- street, Accrington, was broken and entered, aud stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, No. 17610, ' Ben Haworth' engraved on inside case; a silver lever Watch, plain cases, very heavy, gold balance, jewelled in two pairs extra; a silver lever Watch, plain cases, gold balance, extra jewelled ; a silver lever Watch, small piece broken off dial near the edge ; a silver lever Watch, rather small size ; a silver horizontal Watch, cases much dented, and fit badly; 5 gentleman's silver Geneva Watches, one with cases out of repair; 3 ladies silver Geneva Watches, and a German silver Verge Watch. Information to be given to Superintendent Alexander, Police Office, Burnley, or to Inspector Eatough, Police Office, Accrington, Lancaster.— Bow- street, January 3. HORSes AND cATTLe STEALING Stolen in the parish of Ellesmere, Salop, on the 2nd inst.: two Heifers ; the property of Henry Pearce, recovered. By a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair, sandy whiskers, and fresh complexion ; dressed in brown mixture cloth clothes, dark scarf with a liorse- shoe pin in it, hard black felt hat, or sealskin cap ; he had a ring on one little finger, set with a brown stone, and had in his pos- session several foreign Coins. He can speak Welsh, and stated that he was'a native of South Wales, and once kept a publichouse in Swansea. He sold the Heifers by auction in Ellesmero SmithfUJd the same day. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop, or to Sergeant Gough, Police Station, Ellesmere, Salop.— bow- street, Jan. 8. Stolen between the months of July and November last from tho farms of poiiachra and Portnellan, on the Banks of Loch Katrine, in the parish of Callander, Perth : about 100 blackfaced. Sheep, consisting of Ewes, 2 year old Wedders, and Ewe and Wedder Hoggs, the greater number of them having the initials • M. G.' in tar on left side, all burned on right; side of nose thus ' /,' the aged sheep had the points clipped off both ears and the young stock had the fore- half cut ouVof each ear, and it bit Cut out under the t- igiii ear. £ 20 reward will be paid by the Chief Constable of Perthshire, to any persou who will give Buch information as shall lead to the recovery of the Sheep, and conviction of the offenders or offenders,— Bow- street, January 8. Charged with stealing from a field at Ward End, near Birmingham, cn the 20 ultimo : a yellow Heifer, with scissor mark oh right rump, and a Hereford Cow, with two scissor marks between rump and hip. WILLIAM WHEELER, about 24 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh com- plexion, dark hair; slight moustache, aud slight build ; he is a, slaughter man. RICHARD PARKER, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, clean shaved, slight buil ! ; a cattle drover. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham, v. ho holds a warrant for their apprehension. — Bow- street, January 8. Stolen ou the 30th ultimo, from a stable at the rear of 298J, High- street, Camden Town : a light bay cob Mare, a light spring Cart, aud 2 sets of Harness, both brass mounted. Supposed by two men, one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, long features, dark curly hair, no whisker s, speaks with a Norfolk accent; dressed iu dark ov coat*, hiy'i black hat; appearance of a horse coper.— metropolitan Police, S Division, January 5. Stolen from Hawford Hill, Ombersley, near Worcester, el the night of the 30th ultimo: a dark brown cob Pony, a'; out 14 hands high, aged, small star ou forehead, broken winded, long coat, snatches up the near hind foit when trotting, and is shod all round. Stolen from a field in Middlesbrough, on 28th ultimo : a half- bred grey fawn Lamb. LARCENY AnD EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded 011 the 4th instant, from Hanover Church, Regent- street, embezzling £ 10 18s. : a man 58 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers, turning grey, slightly bald, with tattoo marks on left arm. I la is a pensioner from 109 th Foot.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, January 8, Stolen on the 2nd instant, from the dwelling house of Edward Tittensor, Goldenhill, Staffordshire : a blue cloth Coat, with pocket inside each breast, one on each hip, and one iu each tkirt behind, no lining in back. By THOMAS HOLMES, a collier, about 23 years of age, 5 feet C inches high, dark complexion, and no whiskers ; dressed in moleakin trousers, striped waistcoat, and cloth cap, with tassel on top ; he left a coat behind. He is well known at Longton and Fenton, and will probably make his way to Castleford, York- shire. Information to b » given to Superintendent Baker, Police Office, Tunstall, or to Sergeant Macrory, Police Office, Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension,— Bow- street, January 8. Absconded on the 1st instant, from 84, Southwark- street, 2 POLICE GAZETTE. January 8 embezzling £ 40 : a youth 19 years of age, 6 feet high, pale complexion, hark hair, brown eyes, small black moustache, large feet; dresced in brown mixture ulster coat, darK blue frock coat under, dark trousers, hard felt hat, o£ smart appearance, wears four gold rings, and carries a walking stick. He is likely to go to America, and has a relative residing at Brixton. — Metropolitan Police, M Division, January 8. Absconded from Evershott, Dorset, on the 6th instant, charged with embezzling £ 24: ALFRED WORSDELL, about 19 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, and very dark hair ; dressed in dark jacket, with small white spots, grey plaid trousers and vest, lace- up boots, hard felt hat, plaid scarf, red and black check Bhirt, and collar. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Hare, Dorset Constabulary, Cerne Abbas, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow.- street, January 8. Absconded from Bassingbourn, Cambs., on the 1st inst., charged with stealing three tame Rabbits, and one Hen, alj recovered : LEVI TASSELL, a labourer, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, of slender bnild, and has a douching gait; dressed in dark grey cloth cap with peak of same material, blue pilot jacket, much worn, corduroy trousers, and lace- up shoes. Belongs to the Cambridgeshire Militia, and supposed to have gone to London. Information to be given to Superintendent Pallant, Arrington, uear Royston, Cambs,, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 8. Absconded from Warrington charged with stealing a silver Geneva Watch, ttie figures 12 scratched on the dial, and ' E. J.' scratched on outside of outer case : a Spaniard, known as JOSEPH de ANGLAIS, about 24 years'of age, 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed, in a smooth blue cloth coat, rough blue cloth trousers, light tweed vest, black billycock hat. and two odd elastic- side boots. On the 27th ultimo he left his lodging* where he had been one week, taking the watch, which belonged to another lodger ; he has represented that he was an interpreter at Liverpool Hotels, and that he has been a porter on the platform at Lime- street Station there. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 5. Description of THOMAS STRETCH, charged on a warrant with larceny: he is a journeyman tailor, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache, the hair long and inclined to curl at the ends, flesh complexion, and a scar on right side of neck ; dressed in dark thick nap overcoat, with velvet collar, single- breasted, black billycock hat, white woollen muffler, new black mourning coat and vest, bound with narrow braid, new brown check tweed trousers, and thin elastic- side boots, with light tops. He is supposed to be a native of Wrexham, and he left Festiniog on the 23rd ultimo, enquiring his nearest way to Wrexham. Information to be given to Sergeant Jones, Four Crosses, festiniog, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, January 3. Description of WALTER WHITE, charged on a warrant with stealing u Watch, Guard, Seal, & c. ( since recovered), at Snaith, on the 29th November last, from a lodging- house at Goole : 30 to 35 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, grey syes, dark brown hair, nearly bald on top of head, double lighted in right eye, walked lame, having injured his right ankle; dressed in mixture cloth coat, slack- baek. d, dark clotli vest with white spots on it, black and green plaid cloth trewsefs, grey cap with ear tips to it, and strong lace- up boots. He ia a light porter, a native of London, and last resided at Snaith. Was last heard of at Woolwich. Information to be given to Superintendent Goodall, Goole, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 3. Absconded from Gloucester oi^ the morning of the 30th ultimo, stealing from her lodgings, 2, Clarence Villas : a black cloth Jacket, trimmed with black fur; a white Maltese Muff, with very long hair ; a black lustre Skirt, with crape iu front, and kilting round bottom ; a black silk and crape Bonnet, with ostrich feather iu front, and a small white feather behind ; a Roman Scarf, with black, red, and yellow stripes, between 2 and 3 yards long, and three- quarters of a yard wide, with black silk fringe at the eve ' s; a gold Pencil- case ; a coral Brooch ; a blue tuiquoise Brooch, set in silver; a pair of plated Ear rings and plated Brooch ; and a gentle- man's small American leather travelling- Bag, edg; d- with brown leather, the lock or which is out of repair : a young woman who stated that she had lately been residing in London, near St. Paul's Cathedral, that her parents who had a small farm near Cheltenham were both dead, her father haviug be » n killed by a fall from au apple treo : she is about 22 years of t< ge, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, brown hair, fresh complexion, and good looking ; she will probably be wearing the stolen jacket and drsss, and the white malteae muff, as she left behind her ulster cloak, jacket, dress, and muff, she will also be like to be c.. tying the travelling bag, containing he stolen trinkets. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Police Office, Gloucester.— bow- street, January 3. The man charged with larceny from a dwelling in Con- gletou, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th ultimo, is still at large, and was seen iu Derby on the 23rd ultimo, where he was tearing paper up into different shapes and patterns with his haud behind him, iu Public houses. Infor- mation to fee given to Head Constable Bohanna, Congleton, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 3. Description of JOSEPH STEPHENS, charged with stealing £{• 12s. 6d. from the dwelling- house of John Hurst, Eastnor, on the 30th ultimo : about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark pilot jacket, moleskin trousers, and soft black hat; he is a labourer, and sometimes works in brickyards or quarries, supposed to be fousd in Worcestershire, Stafford- shire, or Warwickshire. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Blunsden, Ledbury, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 29. Absconded from Yaxley, Hunts, on the 27th instant, charged with stealing fowls : WILLIAM GLITHERO, a labourer, 30 years of age, C feethigh, pale complexion, light brown hair, light moustache, slight build, walks very erect and has been in the army; dressed in billycock hat, pilot jacket, and dark cloth trousers. HARRY GARRETT, alias RUSHEY, a labourer, 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair complexion, very light hair, and rather thick lips ; generally dresses in dark clothes and clog shoes. Will probably seek employment at some ironworks in Derbyshire, where they have previously been employed. Information to be given to Superintendent Barker, Norman Cross, Peterborough, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, Dec. 29. • Stolen on tlua 20th instant, from a cottage at Hope Mansell: two white twill Slops, with waistbands ; a white Muffler, with red spots ; a white bundle Handkerchief, with figures of men on it; a meerschaum Pipe; a horse hair Albert watch Guard ; a steel watch Chain; and a brown leather Purse, containing 3s. 3d. in Money ; the property of Daniel Carpenter. By a man about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, iresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, and scar over right eye; dressed in dark plaid jacket and vest, cord trousers, and black soft billy- cock hat; a labourer, supposed native of Malvern or Cradley. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, December 29. Absconded from Eastbourne, Sussex, on the 12th inst., charged with embezzling 14s., belonging to — Rickett and others, his masters, coal merchants, at Eastbourne : ALBERT OUTTEN, 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light com- plexion, thin features, rather high nose, which turns slightly on one side, large full grey eyes, has a peculiar white mark in one, light brown hair, cut short behind, very slight mous- tache, no whiskers, slight figure, leans forward when walking, and is very quick in his movements.- Has lately been a clerk in a coal merchant's office, but was formerly a clerk in a solicitor's office at Chelmsford, Essex. R.' and seven small strokes inside the case, and the other 1R. L. D.', five email strokes, and the figure ' 8' scratched inside the case : he is about 34 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stout made, black curly hair, parted down the middle, Negro features, brown eyes, poekpitted, and walks with a swinging gait; well dressed in a dark suit, including an overcoat, at times a soft felt hat, and at others a round sealskin cap. He is a native of America, and married an English woman named Bell, who formerly resided at Tootill's Stairs, Cocker's- green, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, whom he has now deserted. He also resided about 2£ years at 22, Union- st., Hartlepool, and worked at a steel works there, also with a coloured man at Sunderland, where he worked at a glass house for 3 or 4 years. Latterly he has travelled about the country seeking orders for Bibles and other Books, and lecturing occasionally on teetotalism.
