May have the following dogs with them : one is a brown rough haired dog, crossed with sheep and greyhound, 11 months old, answers to ' Charley,' is attached to Allman ; another is a dark brindle greyhound- looking dog, ten months old, answers to ' Lion,' attached to Owen; and another is a black greyhound- looking dog, two years old, answers to ' Snap,' is attached to Williams. ,£ 100 reward will be paid to any person wbo shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of these offenders, or a proportionate sum for such information as shall lead to the arrest and con notion of either of them. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 17th instant, the dead body of a female Child, newly- born, was found in a meadow by the side of the Peterborough Bridge Wall, New Fletton, wrapped in a piece of uubleached calico, and tied rouud with a piece of string. At the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Head Constable Hurst, Borough Police Station, Peterborough, Northamptonshire. — Bow- street, December 20. Further information respecting the murder by CHAS. PEACE, advertised iu tl « e Police Gazette of the 4th instant: .£ 100 rewaid will be given by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other ihau a persou employed in a Polica Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and | evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the said Charles Peace. Iuformation to be given to Chief Con- stable Jackson, Central Police Offices, Sheffield, Yorks.— Bow- street, December 15. On the night of 30th ultimo, Mr. John Morrison, head gamekeeper to Francis Monckton, Esq., M. P., was attacked by a gang of five poachers at Crateford, near Brewood, Staffordshire, one of whom fired a gun with intent to murder him. One of the offenders who proves to be WILLIAM HUMPHREYS, alias JOLLY, of Shrewsbury, has been apprehended, identified, and remanded. The following men ( who have absconded) are charged on warrants with the attempt to murder : THOMAS ALLMAN, alias TIMER, native of Shrews- bury, 29 years of age, 5 feet iuches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, slight • whiskers, left hand cut off at wrist, to which he fixes or unfixes at pleasure an iron hook, or occasionally an iroa knob, he usually carries the stump in trousers or jacket pocket, out of sight, the hook or knob is screwed into a block, whilst a leather case covers his forearm, and ia strapped above the elbow under his jacket; dressed either in cloth plaid woollen trousers, or corduroy trousers and waistcoat, washed nearly white, blue cloth cap, peak of same material, button on top, may wear a navvy's drab slop, which ties round waist with running tape. Is likely to bo in possession of pawntickets for his Watch and Clothes. He has worked at navvy work, horse driving and boating, and is a well known leading poacher in Shropshire, Cheshire, Flint., Herefordshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire, and Stafford- shire. WILLIAM PRICE, alias ' CHECKER,' native of Trench, near Wellington, Salop, by trade a forgeman, 31 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, medium build, brown hair and eyes, and broken nose ; dressed in new moleskin jacket, old moleskiu trousers and vest, dark cloth cap, lace- up boots, aud is likely to be with ALLMAN. RICHARD OWEN, alias WOODBINE, alias LITTLE DICK THE NAVVY, supposed to be a native of Salop wife aud infant, with father iu law, au ex- railway sub con tractor, residing at. Derby, about. 35 years of age, & feet. 7 < 8 lochrs high, smut, build, very active, light hair, no whisker full face, good features ; supposed dressed in dark jacket moleskin or dark Bedford cord trousers, buttons at bottom of ' Stolen from the person of John Wakeham, of Blackawton, mason, on the highway near Harbertonford village, in the parish of Harberton, Devon, about 9 30 p m. on the 5th inst, a silver Geneva Watch, with jet chain aud padlock attached ; and a leather Purse, containing 1 Sovereign, and about 13s. in Silver. By two men : one is about 5 feet 9 inches high, aud dressed in dark clothes and cap ; the other is about 5 feet 6 inches high, and wore a white slop and cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Dore, G Division, Devon Constabulary, Kingsbridge.— Bow- street. December 18. Stolen from the person on the 11th instant, a silver Geneva Watch, No. 41369, cream- coloured dial, had ruuud the edge aud ou the dome of the watch ' Exhibition Prize Medal,' with a plated Albert attached. Information to be given t, o Head Constable Oglethorpe, Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street,., December 15. old- fashioned silver verge Watch, loose cases, No. 3786, maker Roskell and Co,, Liverpool. The brass Plate and silver Pyx have been recovered, but from the pyx has been taken the inside glass and round box, and from the brass plate has been taken the centre piece, representing a lamb in enamel work on a blue ground, round, 5 inches iu diameter, and twenty jewels, four were ruby, red, about Is- in. diameter, six more were red, and a size smaller, the remaining tell were clear crystals of a small size, seme coloured red, and rest- clear, transparencies and merely glass. The Medals ( which are rare) and the other Articles are still missing. Information to be given to Superintendent Webb, Bowgrave, Garutang, Lancashire - Bow- street, December 15. On the night of the 15th, or early on the morning of the 16th instant, the vicarage house of Ware, Herts, was broken into, and stolen therefrom : 2 lorge black fur hearth Rugs, a piece of crimson Raize, a white table Cloth ; 3 dinner Napkins a small table Cover, brown worked in silver ; a large black and crimson dining- room Cloth, a grey and black Shawl, oue side all black with grey border; a brown wool Shawl, a study Clock, black marble 10 inches long, 6 iuches high ; a silver Paper Cutter, in case, with white knobbed ivory handle ; a silver Paper Cutter, with brown transparent handle ; % Waiters, one with three small legs, plated ; a polished mahogany Box, with one dozen gilt dessert Spoons, embossed ; a gold Watch, maker William Wood, Lord- street, Liverpool; a butter Knife, 2 gravy Spoons, a silver sugar Spoon, a sugar Sifter, a sauce Ladle, a pair of asparagus Tongs, 2 dozen large white- handled Knives, a d . wen smaller do,, a carving Knife and Fork, and a pair of fowl Carvers. Supposed by three men, in a light cart, with empty wicker fi- th baskets in it. They stopped at Ponder's End, and left about 5 a. m., going towards London. Whoever will give such iuformation as shall lead to the discovery of the offenders shall receive a reward of ,£ 20. Information to be given to Chief Constable Robertson, Hertford.— Bow- st., December 20. Between 11 a. m. and 5 pm. on the 18th instant, a cottage at Posenhall, near Broseley, in the occupation of Alice Garbett, | was broken and eutered and stolen therein : one Penny. Also a cottage at Wyke, near Posenhall, in the occupation of Richard Onions, labourer, was broken and entered and stolen therein : 8d. in bronze Money and a nearly new hard black felt Hat. Information to be given at the County Constubulary Office, Much Wenlock, Shrop- shire. - Bow- street, December 20. Between 1 and 4 p. m. on the 18th instant, the house of Edward Bason, of the Hope, near Welshpool, was broken and entered, and stolen therein, supposed by a tramp : a dark grey cloth Jacket, pockets on the hips with flaps, one inside breast pocket, and a small patch about the size of a shilling on the elbow of right sleeve ; a pair of old lace- up Boots, rather hard worn, three rows of hob nails in fore parts, and the heel of the left boot has round- headed nails outside, and square nails inside; a green and yellow cotton Handkerchief; au old German silver Watch, without hands; a pair o£ Spectacles, with steel frame ; an old broken gold Ring ; a lady's gold Ring, with red stone ; an old grey cloth monkey Jacket, aud an old pair of boots were left ou the premises. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Seacombe, on the 10th instant, by means of housebreaking: £ 12 in Gold. HORSE AND CATTLE Stolen from a field at Stretford, between 22nd ultimo and the 11th instant: a dark brown mare Pouy, aged, 12^ bends high, white stripe down face, a lump under jaw, thick coat, aud long tail. £ i reward will be paid by the owner on recovery of the Pony and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Bent, Couuty Police Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester, Lancashire.— Bow- ttreet, December 20. StoleD, 12th, from a stable at the rear of the ' Wellington, public- bouse, North- hill, Highgate : a black cart Horse, 4 years, 17 bands, long tail, hair off top of near hind foot, in good condition. A reward of will be paid on the recovery of the horse and conviction of the offender or offenders.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division Dec. 20. Description of a man, remanded until the 20th instant, on suspicion of stealiug a bay Pouy, about 12 hands high, square cut tail, no white about any part of body, in good coudition, supposed stolen from a distanca, as it was very dirty. The man gives his name as WILLIAM MAYBE, 22 years c! age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brruri liair-, small biack whiskers, sallow complexion ; dvessy- d id' a Soft felt bowler hat, old grey tweed coit, black vest, corduroy trousers, heavy lace- up boots, red check shirt, with blue checked ohe underneath. States he has worked at Bruton and Shrewton, Wilts. Information to be given to Superintendent Jeffs, North Petherton, Somerset.— Bow- street, December J8. Absconded from Shepton Mallet, ou the 14th instant, stealing a dark blue cloth Overcoat, shepherd's plaid lining, the property of Robert Pattson, his master : a gardener's labourer, about 27 years of age, about 6 feet 10 inches high, long neck, light hair, pale face, and little or no whiskers ; dressed in grey co. it, mole or cord trousers, aud cap with knob on the top. He was discharged from the Army with ignominy, and has since been imprisoned for re- enlisting. He will probably try to enlist again in the Army or Navy. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Shepton Mallet, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, December 20. Absconded from Hythe, cn the 12th instant, stealing from a lodging- house a gold hunting lever Watch, white face, seconds hands, engine- turned cases, not much worn, a round- pattern gold Albert attached, alsO a small gold Locket, blue enamel, and tbe word ' Mizpah' on one side : a young man, about 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers or beard, small moustache, rather slight build, and crooked nose ; dressed in dark cutaway coat and vest, dark mixture trousers, black tie, with purple stripes, and had three rings on oue little finger. He had no luggage, was very desirous of obtaining a top bedroom, left the house at 1 30 p m. on the 12th instaut on pretence of going to the railway station to enquire after his luggage, aud had with him a light coloured stick. On the 11th instant, he sent a letter to post directed to Milverton, Millington, or Lillington, Warwickshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Raymond, Hythe, Kent.— Bow- ttreet, December 20. Absconded from Nottingham, on 24th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing two £ 5 Bank of England Notes by card sharping, along with three other men, who were apprehended at the time, and have since been committed for trial at tbe next assizes : ROBERT WARD ROPER, alias DOLLY, 32 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, oval visage, no whiskers or moustache, thick made about the shoulders, and carr es bis head rather forward. GEORGE FAWCETT, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, Blight. moustache, and had a little whiskers each side of face. This man wa* convicted at Doncaster Race Meeting in September last, and sentenced to two months' hard labour for card sharping. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poynlz. The Watch advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, as stolen from Highbridge Pelsall, has been recovered, and WILLIAM STORER, of Tamworth, a miner, is committed to sessions for trial for stealing the same. Stolen from tho • Eight Bells,' in Aylesbury, on the 9th instant: a pair of women's Boots, recovered. By a tramping sailor, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, rather long and thick ; dressed in shabby dark clothes and cap, with leather peak. He carried a small umbrella, and he frequents low lodging- houses. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Benson, Police Station, Aylesbury, Bucks.— Bow- street, December 18. Description of GEORGE EVANS, alias LUDLOW GEORGE, charged on a warrant with stealing, at Clifford, Hertfordshire, on 24th ultimo: a Mackintosh ( recovered), and a pair of blue woollen Stockings, men's large size, nearly new; about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, very little dark brown hair and whrskars under chin, and bald on top of head ; dressed iu grey jacket, dark cloth trousers with patch on one knee, and cap. He is a drover, sometimes collects rabbit skins, and is well known in Rad- norshire and Shropshire. Information to be given to Sergeant Ovens, Police Station, Witney, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, December 18. Absconded from Market Lavington, Wilts, charged with stealing a Hand Saw ( recovered), a Hammer, and a small Hatchet, the property of Mr. William Box, engineer : JOHN TARRANT, a labourer, 24 years of age, 5 feet 7| inches high, fresh complexion, full features, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, and stout build ; dressed in light brown coat, corduroy trousers, and hard bowler hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Woodman, Wilts Con- stabulary, Devizes, or to Police Constable Grimby, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 18. Stolen from the house of Robert Allen, at Keadley, on the 10th instant, a pair of strong lace Boots, recently soled and heeled, the soles are sprigged, the heels have square headed nails ; a white flannel Shirt, feather stitched round the neck with violet coloured cotton ; a grey woollen Shirt, recovered ; 3 pairs of brown worsted Stockings ; a black and white check vest, much worn ; and a piece of cooked Beef. By a lodger, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers ; dressed in a grey knotted cloth top coat, yellow cloth trousers, the stolen boots and vest, and blaek cloth cap with knob on top. In- formation to be given to Inspector Crawford, Epworth, near Bawtry, Lineolnsbire.— Bow- street, December 18. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise Absconded charged on a warrant with fraudulent bankruptcy : JAMES DAWSON, alias McBEATH, alias McGRATH, about 58 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sandy hair turning grey, florid complexion, stout build of good address, and a native of Scotland. He left Hull on tbe 8th October last, and ia supposed to have a large Bum iu gold iu his possession, and was iu business in Hull as a coal merchant. £ 25 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to his apprehension. In- formation to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, York- shire.— Bow- sreet, December 15. , Description of CECIL HENRY COOK, charged with fraud : 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, slight moustache, and gentlemanly appear- ance-— Metropolitan Police, E Division, December 20. Description of JOHN STEVENSON, charged on a warrant v, ith obtaining a mackintosh Coat from George Henry Lennard, in Hull, on 27th ultimo, by false and fraudulent pretences, He is about 45 years of age, 6 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh complexion, large features., and has the appearance of a foreman or manager of works. His plan is to call upon some firm and give large orders, stating he represents the Trodingham Iron Works, or some such firn, and then obtains goods on account. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 18. Committed to Aylesbury Gaol on the 16th instant, for 2 months hard labour, for larceny : a tramp who gave the name of JOSEPH HOLL, 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches higb, fair complexion, slightly pockmarked, dark brown hair, blue eyes, slight build, and small scar centre of forehead ; dressed in black cloth jacket, grey tweed vest, dark green cord trousers, grey and yellow check woollen shirt, and brown cap, with knob on top. He states that he is a dock labourer, and' a native of Christian- street, Liverpool. Information to ba given to Superintendent Denson, Aylesbury, Bucks — Bow- street, December 20. Committed for trial at the next Quarter Sessions at Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, on two charges of obtaining money under false pretences : JEAN MUREE, alias ALFRED DE LEAN, says that he is a Frenchman, and a pensioned Sergeant from the 103rd Regiment: 38 years of age, 5 feet 7| inches high, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache little lighter than hair, fresh complexion, grey eyes, slender build, has a scar as if from a burn a little above the right elbow, has a rather respectable appearance and of wood " address; dressed in dark cloth suit, all of same material, and hard round felt hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Offices, Haverfordwest, or to Superin- tendent Thomas, Pembroke. — Bow- street, December 20. Description of a tramp giving the name of ARTHUR JACKSON, of Portsmouth, rivetter, committed to the House of Correction at Wakefield, for 3 months, on a charge of felony : about 37 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, has served in the Army, is branded with the letter 1D.' on left siJe, and very much tattooed ou body and arms. Information to be given to Inspector Bushier, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract.— Bouts'., December 20. Description of a man who gives the name of WILLIAM WALLIS, in custody, charged with felony : 29 years of age, 5 feet 7\ inches high, black hair, whiskers aud moustache, dark eyes and complexion, thin build, and anchor tattooed on left arm. He has travelled through Yorkshire and the adja- cent counties, sharpening Saws. Information to be given to Head Constable Knight, Guildhall, Beverley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 20. Description of THOMAS SMITH, alias HENRY JONES, a labourer, and a native of Bedford, who was on the 15th instant sentenced Tt> 14 days' imprisonment for drunkenness at Spalding : 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, hazel eyes, dark blown hair, whiskers shaved off, two moles on right breast; dressed in dirty old brown cap, with laps, and ties at top with string, red neckerchief, old dark grey trousers, with narrow stripe down the sides, and patches on the knees of a little darker material, blue stripe shiit, dark vest, and one a lighter colour, an old drab slop, very short dark jacket, strong lace- up boots, two patches on right boot, all very much worn. He enlisted into the Royal South Lincoln Militia on the 14th instant at Spalding, and while in custody he stated that he was a deserter from the Royal Artillery. He has worked at Grimsby New Doeks, and at Lincoln Information to be giveu to Superintendent Leaper, Spalding, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, December 20. Remanded to Montgomery Gaol until the 27th proximo, charged with larceny : EMMA JONES, alias PRYCE, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, chubby face, sallow complexion, light brown hair, brown eyes, cut marks on the thick part of both thumbs, and a small burn mark on the first finger of left hand ; dressed in an old plaid shawl, light skirt, with flounces, brown skirt underneath, and black bonnet. There was found in her possession a Pawnticket, No. 5052, for a plaid Dress, pledged at 24, Union- street, Bury, for 9s., in the name of Emma Pryce. She says she has been travelling with her father, a grinder, for the last 12 months. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Breeze, Llanfair, Montgomeryshire,— Bow- street, December 20. Description of a iramp in custody at North Walsham, charged with breaking into a cottage at Truncb, on the 7th instant, and stealing two silver Watches and other articles, all recovered: WILLIAM DACK, alias PAYNE, alias BURNES, a native of Wood Dalling, Norfolk, but has been about the country since July, 1873. lie is 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes ; dressed in an old blue pilot cloth overeoat, double- breasted, with two pockets outside, dark cloth trousers, black soft chummy hat, and lace- up boots. He states that he has been at sea for a few weeks, and come ashore at Grimsby about a month since. Was at North Walsham about three weeks ago, when he offered for sale a large old- fashioned pair- case silver Watch, with figures on the faee, and steel Chain attached Supposed to have been stolen between Grimsby and Walsham.
