DUBLIN, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1876. Gazette, ENGLISH POLICE. MURDER. £ 100 REWArD. WHeREAS, on the 29; h ult, Mr. Arthur Dyson, C. E., was murdered at Banner Cross, Sheffield, having been shot in the head, in the presence of his wife, by Charles Peace, who escaped in the darkness of the night aid is still at large: and whereis, at the Coroner's inquest, held on the 8th instant, upon the body of the said Arthur Dyson, a v rdict of wilful mu der was found against the said Charles Peace: Notice is hereby given, that a Reward of £ 100 willbepul by Her Majesty's Government o any person, other than a person employed in a Police Force in the United Kingdom, who shall give suah inform - tion and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the ' aid Charles Peace. Peace is a thin aid slightly- built man, 46 years of age, but looks 10 years older, 56feet 4 or 6 inches high, gray hair ( nearly white), beard, and whiskers, the whiskers were long when he committed the n urder but may now be cut or shaved off, has lost o o or more fingers off left hand, cut- mark on back of each hand and one on forehead, walks with his legs rather wide apart, speaks somewhat peculiarly, as though his tongue was too large for his mouth, and is a great boaster. he is a joiner or picture- frame maker, but occa- sionally cleans and repairs clovks and watches, and sometimes deals in oleographs, engravings, pictures, & o.; associates with loose women, ana has been twice in penal servitude for burglaries near Man- chester. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Cooladerry, county Cork, E. R., who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1875, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbeheny, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; Brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet io inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. Mitchelstown, March 24, 1875. ( 5182 o.— 9507.) DESCRIPTION of 9 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown, been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place:— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, fi feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 2. Unknown— Fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, large sandy whiskers; wore a soft hat, faded cloth coat. Mitchelstown, April 5, 1876. ( 5182 c.— 16188.) deSCriPTION of Denis Murphy, native of Knockna- boola, district of Killamey, Kerry, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd July, 1876, at Kingwilliamstown, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Nohavaldaly, so seriously assaulted Michael Conners that he died on the 25th July, 1876, ( see Hue- and- Cry, 1st August, 1876):— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, stout make, 6 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age; is a labourer. DeScrIPTION of Patrick M'Daid, native of Derora, who stands charged with having, on the 29th of August, 1876, in the barony ot Kilmacrenan, parish of Conwal, assaulted Jeremiah Kelly so as to endanger his life, and has failed to appetr as bailed to staod his trial:— Mark of recent cut on left eyebrow; sulky, doicn- looling countenance ; brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, broad face, stout make, 6 ftet high, about 80 years of ago, dark brown hair, wears a small tuft of hair ou thin; is a small farmer. DESCRIPTION of a man, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 28th November, 1876, in the barony of Lower Ards, parish of Newtownards, stopped a boy named Adam Jordan, and, after demanding money, rifled his pocket of a cotton pocket- handkerchief of red colour, with white spots:— Sandy complexion, coarse face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 80 or 40 years of age, long sandy beard, moustache, and whist era, beard falling down over breast, wore an old light- coloured hat slouched down over his face, long dark coat torn on both sides of breast and at back, moleskin trowsers patched on front of legs with corduroy, dark vest wanting tbree buttons ( tw'o above and one below). DESCRIPTION of 6 sheep, the property of Patrick Greany, which were stolen from the lands of BaLina- buckey, parish of Killeely, barony of Dunkellin, on the night of the 4th or morning of the 6th of De- cember, 1876 Six ewe sheep, white, marked on the right side in tar with the letters P. DESCRIPTION of a man, name supposed to be Ward, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 34th November, 1876, in the barony of Moycullen, parish of Kileummin, stolen a mare, the property of Patrick Walsh, of Maherabeg, off his lands in said townland:— Thin nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 80 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a low soft hat, frock coat, small corded trowsers, dark vest; has the appearance of a horse jobber, and carried an Old oil- skin coat. DESCRIPTION of a donkey's cart, the property of Christopher Kelly, which was stolen out ot his yard at Lyons Commons, parish of Clonaghlis, barony of North Naas, on the night of the 4th or morning of the 5th December, 1876:— Donkey's cart, nearly new, painted red, one wheel having 13 spoke* ' he other 10, the name " Christopher Kelly " painted on a zinc plate on the right shaft. DESCRIPTION of Mary Conlon, native of Balloran, who stands charged with having, cn the 21st November, 1876, in the barony of Louth, parish of Louth, violently assaulted Mary Corchoran, by striking her with a stone on the back, which has caused her life to be in danger:— Is pockpitted; small gray eyes, reddish complexion, full round face, very stout make, 5 feet high, 86 jeats of age, reddish hair; wore a bonnet, yellow and black Paisley shawl, yellow dress with a deep flounce, boots either laced or elastic sides. M., in the barony of Carra, parish of Drum, at Loonamore, discharged three shots from a revolver from behind a rick of turf at George R. Acton, esq., Bridgemount, as he drove by, returning from the fair of Balla:— Face not muscular, about 13 stone weight, seemingly a man not accustomed to hard labour, swarthy or much sun- burnt complexion, round lace, very full make 5 feet 8 inches high, 40 years ot age, dark 1 sandy hair, beard and moustache; brown frieze sack coat, dark tweed vest, whitish trowsers, and a solt j hat, with high crown. DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Garryduff, who stands charged with having, on ihe 31st October, 1876, in the barony of Clandonagh, parish of Rathdowney, seriously assaulted William Guilfoyle, thereby causing his death on Snd November, 1876, ( cee Hue aad- Cry, 8rd November, 1876):— Large boil on back of neck ; slight impediment in his speech ; gray eyes, fair complexion, fresh freckled face, medium make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 30 yea's of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coftt, tweed trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hunt, ( mother's surname Quigley,) native of Knockgranagh, who stands charged with having, on the 29th November, ult., in the barony of Leyney, parish of Achonry, murdered John M'Gloin, by fracturing bis skull with a large stone :— Down- looleing appearance, two upper front teeth large aid prominent, high cheek bones, large heavy lips, sunken jaws, very broad shoulders; glaring black eyes, slightly cocsed nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 27 or 28 years cf age, black hair, small dark moustache; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest. Was in America, and lately returned from England, where he worked as a labou- ; r. Has a pair of English- made navvy boots, with plates under toes, also a pair of light Wellington boots. DESCRIPTION of convict Bryan Kearney ( 13940), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Constabulary on change of residence :— Convicted at Cashel, county Tipperary, at Hilary Sessions, on 8rd January, 1867, for buggery, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servjtA^: 30 years of age on conviction, can write,^ Bh Roman Catholic, single, is a labourer, ( stat** e was a soldier in 30th Regiment for 7 years i) v i ' THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AHD- SRY, DECEMBER 15, 1876, in Cashel, county Tipperary j he resided before conviction in Cashel Workhouse; brown hair mixed with gray, blue eyes, brown heavy eyebrows, thin sharp nose, small mouth, thin lips, sallow com- plexion, oval visage, sore- mark behind left hip, lost a tooth out of left side of upper jaw, cross tattooed between thumb and first finger ol lelt hand, stout make, 5 feet 6; inches high. The above- named convict was released from Spike Island Prison, 8th October, 1874, on an order of licence. He left Cashel for Queenstown on the 24th ultimo, and reported his departure before leaving; a communication was received on the SOth ultimo saying that he had left Queenstown on his return to Cashel, >\ » t up to the present he has not reported himself. k In the ev^ Tt of his arrest, he should be dealt with nnder the 6th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act 1871, 84 and 86 Vic., cap. 112. ( 9366 m— 16811 ) DESCRIPTION of Patrick M'Grath, native of Cool- namonia, who stands charged on suspicion with having, on the 6th of November, 1876, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Upper, parish of Moyaliff, seriously assaulted Jeremiah Lowery, thereby causing his death on 26th of November, 1876:— Slightly in- kneed} shaves all his face ; browh eyes, regular nose, dark fresh complexion, full face, stout make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark hair; wore a jerry hat, brown cloth coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Mary Jane M'Cullagh, native of Cross, Ballinascreen, who stands charged with having, on the 13th October, 1876, at Feegarron, in the barony of Upper Dungannon, parish of Derryloran, deserted her illegitimate female child, nearly 8 months old:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 26 or 26 years of age, li; » ht brown hair; wore a brown dress with dark flounces, gray shawl which she wore over her head. This woman gave birth to a child in the house of Sarah A. Hagan, Killycolps, on the 81st July, when she stated her name, & c., was as above given. A Warrant for her arrest has bee a issued. DESCRIPTION of Maria Kirwin, having no fixed residence, who stands charged with having, on the night of 20th November, 1876, in the barony cf Forth, parish of Kilbride, Glunn, feloniously broken into, or out of, ihe public house of Mrs. Johanna Larkin, and taken therefrom a blue serge drsss, a brown cloth jacket trimmed with quilted silk, a black quilted satinette petticoat, and a bottle of brandy:— Blue eyes, ordinary nose, sallow complex- ion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 86 years of age, fair hair; wore a green linsey dress, a black and white straw hat, old black and white shawl.
