As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the FOLICIE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor saillist be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Offioe Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. WOUNDING, On thi 30th ultimo the Dead Body of a ' female Child, about four days' old, was found amongst some brick rubbish near the gas- house, Redcar, - wrapped up in an old dirty white apron, full of holes. At the Coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown,' Wxs returned. Information to be given to Sergeant Alexander, Redcar, or to Superintendent Prest, North Riding Consta- bulary Office, Guisborough.- Bow- street, December 11. Absconded from Hardington, charged with the murder of Police Constable Cox, on the night of the 16th instant, at Netherton, Somerset: GEORGE HUTCHINGS, about 65 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, sallow com- plexion, and thin face. GILES HUTCHINGS, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, sallow complexion, thin face, and downcast look. And PETER HUTCHINGS, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather stout, dark brown hair, sallow com- plexion, and marked with small pox. Giles and Peter, are sons of George, Hutchings, and all are natives of Hardington, near Yeovil. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person employed in a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the murder, as shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. And a further reward of £ 30 is offered by the Chief Constable for Somersetshire to any person ( including Police Officers) who may become entitled to it under the conditions of his notice. It is sup- posed that the accused persons will endeavour to escape from their hiding place in some gipsies' van. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Yeovil, Somerset, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, December 8. On the 3rd instant, the Body of a full- grown newly- born male Child, much decomposed, was found on the road side at Middle Cave, Malton, enclosed in a bag or dsuble napkin, apparently made from a bedroom towel, wrapped in a ' Malton Messenger, dated 1st July, 1876,' and tightly bound round with thick twine. An inquest has since been held, and a verdict returned of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persona unknown'. Information to be given to Superintendent Clarkson, North Riding Constabulary Office, Malton.— Bow- street, December 8. On the night of 30th ultimo, Mr. John Morrison, head gamekeeper to Francis Monckton, Esq., M, P, was attacked by a gang of five poachers at Crateford, near Brewood, Staffordshire, one of whom fired a gun with intent to murder him. One of the offenders, named THOMAS JONES, a j labourer, has been apprehended, identified, and remanded, j The following men ( who have absconded) are charged on J warrants with the attempt to murder: THOMAS ALLMAN, alias ' TIMER,' supposed native of Salop, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, fair com- plexion, light hair, little or no whiskers, has lost one hasd ( supposed left) to which arm he occasionally affixes a hook and generally hides it in his coat pocket; dressed in moleskin or corduroy trousers and waistcoat, dark cloth jacket, black billycock hat or cap, and water- tight boots, WILLIAM PRICE, alias ' CHECKER,' native of Trench, Salop, 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, full face, and very flat nose ; supposed dressed in flannel or moleskin jacket, moleskin trousers and waistcoat, dark cap, and water tight boots. RICHARD OWEN, alias ' DICK THE NAVVY,' supposed to be a native of Derby, where his relations reside, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout bxiild, and full face ; supposed dressed in dark jacket, moleskin or cordurey trousers and waistcoat, and dark cap. And JOHN DAVIES, alias ' GEORGE WILLIAMS,' alias ' BRUMMY,' native of Salop, 28 years of age, 5 ft. 8 or 9 inches high, and of smart active appearance; dressed like a navvy, and wearing a black billycock hat. These men are likely to tramp the country in search of navvy work, and to be found in company with navvies, boatmen, or poachers, at low public- houses or brothels. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of these offenders, or a proportionate sum for such information as shall lead to the arrest and con notion of either of them. Information to be given at any Police Station in the County of Stafford, or to Chief Constable Congreve, Chief Constable's Office, Stafford. — Bow- street, December 6. Description of CHARLE3 PEACE, alias GEORGE PARKER, alias ALEX ANDER MANN, alias PAGAN IN I, charged with murder at Sheffield, on the night of the 29th ultimo : he is thin and slightly built, 46 years of age, but looks 10 years older, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, grey ( nearly white) hair, beard, and whiskers, ( the whiskers were long when he committed the murder, but may now be cut or shaved off), has lost one or more fingers off left hand, cut mark on back of each hand, and one on forehead, walks with his legs rather wide apart, speaks somewhat peculiarly, as though his tongue was too large for his mouth, and is a great boaster; he is a picture- frame maker, but occasionally cleans and repairs clocks and watches, and sometimes deals in oleographs, engravings, pictures, & c.; associates with loose women, and has been twice in penal servitude for burglaries near Manchester, and has lived in Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, and Hull. JACK, late of Darlington, charged on a warrant with breaking and entering the dwelling- house of George Lowes, at Hindon, on the 28th September last, and stealing therein: a shooting Coat and Vest, blue ribbed cloth ; a pair of light grey cloth Trousers, with a black stripe down the side of each leg; and a pair of black cloth ditto, the black cloth trousers have been recovered : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, proportionately made, has rather round shoulders, and speaks the South country dialect; gathers rags, and carries a basket covered with a piece of brown oil- cloth ; he also hawks steel ] p.^ ns, tapes, & c., and has a pedlar's certificate, granted at Darlington, on the 4th May last. Frequents common;: lodging- houses, and may be accompanied by his wife and a: little girl about 2 years of age, and an infant about 1 mouth, old. RICHARD JONES, native of Bristol, 29 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, cut short, brown moustache and imperial; dressed in long blue Chester- field coat, blue trousers, grey cloth vest, and hard black bowler hat. HENRY FREDERICK WHITE, states he belongs to Blackfriars- road, London, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high,^ fair complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, scar right side of top lip, small scar under right eyebrow, mole spot under right ear, and on chest; dressed in black overcoat, dark trousers and vest, black bowler hat, black necktie, and turned- down collar. During the night of the 2nd instant, the shop of Mr. William Boulton, pawnbroker, Liverpool- road, Stoke- on- Trent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 8 gold Guards, snake, secret link, and belcher patterns, and weighs 1 oz 17 dwts, 9- carat. 11 gold Alberts, various patterns, new and second hand, 9- carat. 3 gold Necklets, one small secret link, the other two of of a larger pattern, 9- carat. 50 gold Rings, gentlemens' and ladies', various stones, new and second hand, with a letter scratched in the iuside, 9 to 18- carat. 12 ladies' gold dress Rings, 9 to 15- carat. 40 gold Wedding Rings. 20 gold Keeper Rings, various patterns. 1 heavy Indian gold Ring, Odd Fellow's grip, not stamped. 20 Lockets, various sizes, two marked as follows, one Laids gripped, and the other with the letters ' I O. G. Description of EDWARD EVANS, charged with itealing from a field near Aykley Heads, on the 23rd ultimo, i Horse ( sine recovered): he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 or ) inches high, dark complexion and eyes, very dark ha; r, cut short, thin face, scar above one eye, acd slender build, a aative of Cornwall; dressed in light snuff- coloured coat, bound with black braid, dark grey trousers, black vest, slastic- side boots, and light grey cloth bowler hat; he has been previously convicted o< horse stealing, and may be found lying about coke ovens ; he has been accustomed to working in stone and slate quarries. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunn, Police Office, Durham,— Bow- St., December 11 Stolen on the 1st instant, from a field off Fruin- road, East Dulwich, a light strawberry roan Heifer, in calf.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, December 6. Stolen from a field near Merthyr Tydfil, during the night of the 28t, h ultimo, a dark bay cob Horse, 7 years old, about 13| hands high, black mane, long tail, has a white spot about the size of half- crown near the saddle on the off side, and is in good condition, the property of John Vowles, horse dealer, Merthyr Tydfil, Information to be given to Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary- Office, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan- shire.— Bom- street,' December 4. Absconded from private lodgings, at Ashford, Kent, on the 7th instant, stealing a gold Bing with plaited grey hair ; a gold Pin, head formed of two rings ; and a white cotton Pocket Handkerchief, marked ' L. J. Fowler,' in ink. A man about 23 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light com- plexion, crooked nose, no whiskers or moustache, and light brown hair; dressed in light- blue cut- away coat, trimmed with black braid, very dark or black trousers, and black deer stalker hat. He gave his address as No. 13, Francis- road, Edgbaston, Warwickshire. He is accurately described, except his height and nose, in Police Gazette of the lst inst., charged with stealing a silver Watch, at Margate, on the 21st ultimo. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, Dec. 11. Description of a man who attempted to pawn, on the 6th instant, at the shop of Messrs Cole, Bridge- street, Cam- bridge, a superfine black cloth dress Suit, name on buttons of trousers ' Chappell, Peterborough,' which are supposed to have been stolen; upon being questioned, the man ran out of the shop leaving the clothes behind him, and he has not since been heard of : he is from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, clean shaved, red face, and stout build; dressed in a black hard felt hat and blue cloth pilot overcoat; he had the appearance of a seaman, and stated that he wanted money to get to his ship. He left behind him a light grey wrapper Handker- chief with dark stripes. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge,— Bow- street, December 11. Stolen from Bridge Town, Cannock, on the 6th instant a pair of cloth Trousers, with fly fronts, green and black plaid, a double- breasted Yest, of same material; and a paisley Muffler, white ground, red centre, and border with figures of ships and steam boats. By WALTER HILL, a lodger, 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light bair, fair complexion, medium build, very thick lips, round red face, large feet and hands, stoops, and turns his toes outwards; dressed in shabby black cloth coat and vest, dark trousers, patched on knees, paisley muffler, white ground, with picture of a dog and otter in centre, black felt hat, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, or to Sergeant Evans, Cannock, near Stafford. — Bow- street, December 11. Description of a man who is charged with stealing from his lodgingsg at Llanfihangel, on the 3rd or 4th instant £ 6 10s. in gold : an Irishman, who said he belonged to Wrexham, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, no beard or whiskers : dressed in old light grey jacket, double breasted moleskin vest, moleskin trousers, with large seam down the sides, and brown billycock hat. He bought at Kington the same day, a blue monkey jacket, trousers and vest of same material, and blacK hat. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Wheeldon, Penybont, Radnorshire.— Bow- street, December 11. Stolen on the night of the 7th instant, from a cottage at Trunch, Norfolk : two silver Watches, one large pair- cased, the other small, engine- turned, No. 365; an old wedding Ring, an American gold Dollar, 33. 6d. in Silver, and several old copper Pennies. Supposed by a tramp, from 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair, very small whiskers, and has good teeth ; dressed in an old dark ( supposed blue) cloth overcoat down to the knees, dark trousers, old boots much too large for him, and dark chummy hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bunted, Police Station, North Walsham, Norfolk.— Bcno- st., Dec. 11. Absconded from Madeley, Salop, on the 8th instant, charged with stealing from his lodging, au English lever Watch, nearly new, No. 4032, maker Gaskin, Wellington ; a silver Neckchain, a silk Scarf, and a pair of india- rubber Braces, the property of William Cookson; an old silver verge Watch, No. 1007, the property of John Cookson : RICHARD NORTHALL, alias RICHARD EDGE, a miner, 22 years of age, 5 feet 2$ inches high, slender build, fresh complexion, long face, brown hair, blue eyes, anchor on back of. left hand, ' T.' on left forearm, blue mark on right forearm, blue scar inside corner of right eye, and a cut on centre of forehead ; dressed in a hard jimcrow hat, brown cloth overcoat, black cloth trousers, much worn, and elastic side boots : he has also a pair of dark plaid trousers and waistcoat, and a black cloth jacket, nearly new, in his possession. He has been several times convicted of felony in Shropshire and Stafford- shire, was last convicted of felony at Stafford Quarter Sessions, in October, 1875, and sentenced to 1 year imprisonment and five years police supervision. The neck chain has been found pledged at Dawley in the name of George Davies. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Ironbridge, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- ttreU, Dec. 11 Stolen on 4th instant, from an engine- house situate at Highbridge, Pelsall ; the property of Wm, Poxon, of Pelsall: an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, with small glass in centre of case ; aud an old brass curb Cnain and three Keys attached. Supposed by a man about 19 yeara of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 ins. high ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, dark trousers, and brown hard hat; he is a miner and a native of Tamworth. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Arnold, Rushall, near Walsall, Staffordahire.— Bow- sireet, December 8. Stolen from a dwelling- houae at Congleton, on the lst instant: a green and black plaid Jacket, double- breasted, with two pockets outside, and one inside left breast; a pair of girl's kid top elastic- side Boots; a girl's black silk Frock, trimmed with black lace ; a silver Locket, in the form of ; a heart, with two green and two red stones in it, had a piece of black velvet attached. By a man, about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, rathar long thin features, dark or sallow complexion, black hair, no whiskers, very slight black moustache, and slim build; dressed ia a light tweed or grey 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair ; dressed in black cloth coat, corduroy trousers, clumsily repaired in front with white thread, and soft billy- cock hat. They are both boatmen, and are aupposed to be in company with a man who works a boat belonging to the Cookeley Ironworks. Information to be given to Sergeant Stevenson, Police Station, Kinver, near Stourbridge, Staf- fordahire.— Bow- street, December 8. Description of THOMAS HART, a labourer, for wboae apprehension a warrant haa been issued, charged with stealing a watch, recovered, at Swinefleet, near Goole, on 15th July last: 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inchea high, dark com- plexion, dark brown eyes, black hair, cut short, slender build. He is known by the name of ' WILD TOMMY.' Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Goodall, Goole, York- shire.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Castleford, on the 2nd iattant: a blue pilot Monkey Jacket, two pockets inside and three outside, lined with plain horse cloth, and black bone buttons ; also a black silk Handkerchief, which was in one of the pockets. By a navvy, who wears earrings, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, brown eyes, light brown hair, no whiskers, and of slender build; dressed in a light harden jacket, moleskin vest and trousers, Scotch cap with knot on top, and strong navvy boots; he was formerly a tipper. Information to be given to Inspector Boshier, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract, Yorkshire. Bow- street, December 8. Description of WILLIAM WILMER, charged with stealing at Bolney, Sussex, on the 25th ultimo, a Watch ( since found pawned in Brighton): about 37 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexipn, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, he is a journeyman baker, and it well known in West Sussex and Redhill, Surrey ; dressed in grey coat, large check trousers, with dark stripe at sides, light stitched hat, and lace- up boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superin- tendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Caatleford, on the 2nd instant: a lady's gold Geneva lever Watch, two light spots on inside case ; and a pair of black and green striped plaid Trousers, fly fronts, lined with grey calico. By GEORGE KNIGHT, who has been in the army, and is well known as ' SOLDIER GEORGE' on public works. He is a navvy, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, moustache, and imperial, slender build; dressed in old brown pilot jacket, brown striped cloth vest, corduroy trousers, brown cap with ear- laps, and light boots.
