IVotSce.— It ii requested that all commumicatiom tor the purpose of obtaining or giving infermation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, the Offence charged, and au attested copy thereof, together with ( she . advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, aU ^ Letters addressed to the Editor i ® iffl ® $ be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. accompanied by two young men of similar age, and shabbily dressed. Four persons are in custody on the same charge, who have been remanded till the 30th iust. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 29. INFORMATIONS k Description of CHARLES PEACE, charged with murder at Sheffield, on the night of the 29th ultimo : he is thin and slightly built, from 65 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, grey ( nearly white) hair, beard, and long whiskers, has lost one or more lingers off left hand, walks with his legs rather wide apart, speaks peculiarly and thickly, and is a great boaster; be is a picture- frame maker, but occasionally cleans and repairs clocks and watches, and some- times deals in engravings, pictures, & c.; he has been in penal servitude for a burglary near Manchester, and has lived in Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, and Hull. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 4. Absconded from Hardington, charged with the murder of Police Constable Cox, on the night of the 16th instant, at Netherton, Somerset: GEORGE HUTCHINGS, about 55 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, sallow com- plexion, and thin face. GILES HUTCHINGS, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, sallow complexion, thin face, and downcast look. And PETER HUTCHINGS, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather stout, dark brown hair, sallow com- plexion, and marked with small pox. Giles and Peter, are sons of George, Hutchings, and all are | natives of Hardington, near Yeovil. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, to any person ( other than a persou employed in a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who will give such information and evidence as shalflead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the murder, as shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Description of a woman named ALICE WALLER, alias HIGGINS, charged with forging and uttering Bank Notes : about 49 yews of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, hair turning grey, aud marked with a mole on chin ; she belongs to the North of England, and was married about seven years ago to a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. Infor- mation to be given at the County Police Office, Skerton, Lancaster.— Bow- street, November 27. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person in Preston, on the 25th instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 15684, maker Peter Dickinson, Preston, 18 size, gold balance and joints, sunk seconds, shield and garter engraved on back. Stolen from the person at Preston, on the 20th instant, a gold lever Watch, No. 53114, maker A. Bamber, Preston, had attached a gold albert Chain, Information to ba given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— How- su, November 20. Description of MICHAEL KELLY, a labourer, who absconded from Bolton on 13th instant, charged with stealing from the person £ 6 12s. in Money, and a silver Watch ( recovered), He is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, proportionate make, dark complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in an old black cloth shooting coat, moleskin trousers, red and white neckerchief ( tied in sailor's knot), black billycock hat, and clogs. He is marked as follows, one other with the letters During the night of the 2nd instant, the shop of Mr. William Boulton, pawnbroker, Liverpool- road, Stoke- on- Trent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 8 gold Guards, snake, secret link, and belcher patterns, and weighs 1 oz 17 dwts, 9- carat. 11 gold Alberts, various patterns, new and second hand, 9- carat. 3 gol I Necklets, one small secret link, the other two of of a larger pattern, 9- carat. 50 gold Rings, gentlemeus' and ladies', various stones, new and second hand, with a letter scratched in the inside, 9 to 18- carat. 12 ladies' geld dress Rings, 9 to 15- carat. 40 gold Wedding Rings. 20 gold Keeper Rings, various patterns. 1 heavy Indian gold Ring, Odd Fellow's grip, not stamped. 20 Lockets, various sizes, two hands gripped, and the ' I. O. G. T.' on the front. 1 gold Seal, imitation topaze. 2 small gold Seals. 3 gold Seals, shell pattern. 3 ditto, with various stones. 3 ditto. 12 pairs of gold Ear- rings, 15 to 18- carat. 1 silver Guard, weight 3^- czs 7 silver Guards. 8 silver Alberts, various patterns and weights. 6 gent's gold cast Rings. 3 silver Pencil- cases. 1 small gold round Brooch, stone of three colours. 1 gold Locket, with cat's face. Any person giving such information as will lead to the 1 apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and ; recovery of the property will receive i' 10 reward, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen by means of burglary during the night of 28th ult.; from a dwelling- house at St. Leonard's- on- Sea ; a silver keyless Watch, maker ' Remonntre,' cracked face, and ' dix rubies' engraved inside ; and a plated gold Albert Chain with Locket in shape of an opera glass attached. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between the 20th and 25th instant, flow the dwelling- house of Samuel Drury,; of the paiish of Saint Martin's, Oswestry : a black cloth. frock Coat, with two pockets behind, and one in left breast ;; a black cloth Vest, wish cloth buttons; a pair of black cloth Trousers, with fall ft out; and a Blanket. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field near Merthyr Tydfil, during the night of the 28th ultimo, a dark bay cob Horse, 7 years old, about 13^ hands high, black mane, long tail, has a white spot about the size of half- crown near the saddle on the off side, and is in good condition, the propeity of John Vowles, horse dealer, Merthyr Tydfil. Information to be given to Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary Office, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan- shire.— Bow- street, December 4. The black cob advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29 th ultimo as stolen from a field on Nantwich- road, Crewe, has been found.— Bow- street, December 1. WILLIAM EVANS, charged on a warrant with steal- ing a Donkey from Llanfyllin ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th August last), is still at large. His mother, who is a widow, lives in Crewe, and he has relatives living in Buckley. Flintshire. He will likely seek work on coal banks or brick yards. Information to be given to Police Constable Williams, Llanfyllin, or to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street,, December 1. Stolen on the 14th instant, from a marsh in the Becton- road, West Ham, six black Welsh Bullocks, ' M.' on rumps, tails cut. and in good condition.— Metropolitan Police, K Di- vision, November 29. . Absconded on 22th ultimo, stealing from the Oriental Club, Hanover- square, .£ 81 19s. 8d : a man, 43 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, pale complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache, and curly black hair ; dressed in black frock coat and vest, and light check trousers.— Metropolitan Police, C Divi- sion, December 4. Description of a man who is charged with stealing from his lodgings on the 1st instant : £ tl in Gold, and a ,£ 10 Bank of England Note. He stated that he had been a jockey, aud a native of Leeds, Yorkshire, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light moustache, right eye sore from a burn or scald, scar all round , his neck, thin face, sharp nose, his breast- bone has been crushed by a horse falling on him ; dressed in brown tweed coat, grey tweed trousers, and hard black bowler hat. His clothes ire much worn and dirty, and he is very much addicted to drink. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Davies, City of Hereford, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, December 4, Absconded, charged with stealing on the 27th ultimo: one £ 10 and ten £ 5 Bank of England Notes ; and about iu Gold and Silver, the property of Michael Thomas 14ass and James Whiteley : JAMES GUBBINS, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, rather stout build, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, stoops, bow legged, and has two large lumps on the outer side of left leg ; dressed in a round hard billy hat, dark tweed jacket and vest, and brown trousers; he is fond of card playing, and frequents low public- houses. A reward of £• 20 wiil be paid tor his apprehension and conviction, in- formation to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, December 4. Stolen from Hailing on the 29t, h ultimo : a slate- coloured Duck; a pheasant- coloured Cock ; and a light- coloured Hen. By a bricklayer's labourer, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, EO whiskers, dark complexion, and slight dark moustache; dressed in dark coat, fustian trousers, aud black cloth cap. Description of a man who deserted Lorn the Royal Marines at, Cnatham on the 30th ultimo, and is charged v i , li stealing .633 Sold : about 20 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and grey eyes ; dressed in black cloth j tuket, pockets at side, black cloth trousers, black hard felt bat with flat top, and. light comforter round his neck. Absconded from Great, Sutton, on the 9;, h ultimo, charged | with stealing fourteen rabbit Trap*, recovered : JOSEPH GRIFFITHS, a labourer, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches , higb, dark complexion, full face, and durk hair; dressed in a c. ip, blue cloth monkey jacket, corduroy trousers, and strong lace- up boots ; he is supposed to be working as a navvy on a ! railway in Lancashire. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Egeiton, County Hall, Birkenhead, or to Sergeant Roche, Little Sutton, near Chester— Bov)- street, December 4. Absconded, charged with breaking into a bed- room in a refreshment house at Leicester, and stealing therein a Cash- , box, containing ,£ 186 10s. in Gold, on the afternoon of the j 25th ultimo : a man, about 5 feet < 5 inches higb, from 35 to 40 years of age, fresh complexion, and dark hair, whiskers, , and moustache ; dressed in a brown overcoat, dark cloth coat • and vest, tweed trousers, and high hat ; wore a ring on one , little finger. Had in his possession a dark portmanteau opening in the centre. £ ii0 reward will be paid by Mr. Sam. Whiteman, Refreshment House, Gallowtree- gate, Leicester, on the conviction of the above man aud recovery of the propeity, or in proportion to the'amount recovered. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Farndale, Town Hal!, Leicester.— Bow- ttreet, December 4, Description of a man who obtained Supper, Bed, and Breakfast, at the hcuse of Peter Forster, of Lymm, and . absconded on the morning of the lst instant, stealing a pair !' of elastic- fide Boots, pairs worn, the front, and back e> f the ; I kid on left boot has been repaired with black cotton : about ^ 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, brown hair, dark eyes, three or four large prominent upper front ji teeth, long chin, and small whiskers ; dressed in black cloth _ I coat, corduroy trousers, rough brown cloth cap without peak, " j and lace- up clogs : he had ttse appearance of having worked | in a foundry or cotton factory, and stated that he belonged 5 to Worsley, near Manchester. Absconded from Maidenhead, on tbe 28th ultimo, charged with stealing from his lodgings, a small silver lever Watch, point ol minute hand broken otf; a pair of black cloth Trousers, large s ze, nearly new; a pair of Braces, and a knitted woollen smoking Cap. of different colours: a man, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, daik curly hair, small black moustache, no whiskers, dark eyes, slight build ; dressed in high hat, dark cloth coat, light trousers ; he speaks with a slight Scotch accent, is an upholsterer, and is supposed to have gone to the neighbourhood of St, John's Wood to seek employment, Information to be given to Head Con- stable Austin, Borough Police, Maidenhead, Berkshire. — Bow- street, December 4. Absconded from Hungerford, charged with stealing a silver hunting Watch, winding up iu face, on 23rd ultimo ; the property of Henry Bright: WILLIAM BUNCE, labourer, native of Kintbury, Berks, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, lost one or two of his front teeth; dressed in a grey jacket, dark trousers with light overalls, and Scotch cap with plaid band. Information to be given to Inspector Drewett, Hungerford, Berks, who holds a warrant for hia apprehension.— Bow- swtiet, December 1. Stolen from a garden, at Kempsey, near Worcester, on 29th ultimo : 4 white flannel Petticoats, one of which is marked on the band ' M. A. Foxton,' and another ' C. Spencer' ; and a pair of woman's Stays. Supposed by a tramp, a, bout 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, low black bat, and light shoes. Absconded from Margate on 21st ultimo, stealing a silver Watch, no glass, one hand bioken. black mark on back of cases, engraved on cases ' M. Harriett, Market- place' ; about 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, slight moustache, thia figure ; dressed in dark blue cutaway coat and vest, dark speckled trousers, black tie with purple stripes, low shoes, scarlet and grey striped seeks, yellow dogskin gloves, black stitching up backs ; he carries a light stick, acd wears a ring ou little finger. States he comes from Harborne, Warwickshire. He is charged with similar offences at Ramsgate, Canterbury, and Dover. In- formation to ba given to Head Constable Romanis, Town Hall, Margate, Kent. — Bow- street, December 1. Leek, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, December 1. Charged with scuttling the French lugger ' Mater Dei,' off the Fifesbire coast, on or about the 16th October last: JEAN BAPTISTE WADOUX, belonging to Gravelines, about 35 years o£ age,, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, and daik hair; dressed when last seen in a fur cap, blue guernsey shirt, and sea boots. He is believed to be about the East Coast o£ England, and will try to make his escape by some French vessel. Information to be given to Chief Constale Bremner, Cupar, Fifeshire, wbo holds a sheriff's warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 1. Charged on a warrant with felony : THOMAS ALEX ANDER BARKER, late of No. 9, Chantry- road, Brixton, 46 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dask eyes, hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaved chin, sallow complexion, thin face, slight build, and is very nervous; dreased in shabby dark, clothes. Information to be given at the Detective Depart- ment, No, 26, Old Jewry, E, C.— Bow- street, November 29. Absconded from Henley- in- Arden, on the 4th instant, charged with stealing a silver Watch : J. LLOYD, a watch- maker, 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, black hair; dressed in black overcoat, trousers, and vest, black hard billy hat, and a pair of clogs. Information to be given to Inspector Warren, Henley- in- Arden, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bern- street, November 29. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from 228, Strand: a dark rough Overcoat, a black walking Coat, with pockets on the hips, a black dress Coat, with velvet collar, and a pair of grey tweed Trousers and Vest. By a man, 24 years ot age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache.. A native of France.—: Metropolitan Police, E Division, November 29. Stolen on the 22ad instant, from No. 36, Connaught- square, Hyde- park : & gold, Bracelet, set with a large emerald in centre aud two diamonds; « , large diamond composite Brooch and Locket, three pendants, a smaU Neck Chain attached, in a daik morocco Case ; five, gold Rings, one half loop ( sst with five diamond*), one with three emeralds, one with four opals, one black enamel mourning ( small diamond in centre), and one grey enamel ( five pearls with diamond in centre shape of a forget- me- not.); a plain silver Cruet Stand ; six Forks aud seven Table Spoons, plain silver, with crest— a,, griffin rampant aud a star; one ditto, embossed handle, crest— a bent arm and hand holding a rod ; a japanned tin Caddy Box, £ 17 10s., a bunch cf patent Keys, and sundry Documents and Memoranda. By a man 21 years of age, 5 feet high, complexion, hair, and small moustache dark; dressed in a black cloth overcoat, grey under coat, black vest, Description, of a man, charged with obtaining by false pretences from Joseph Church, of Wybunbury, Cheshire, on the 20th ultimo : a . blue pilot cloth Jacket, lined with blue lining, much worn at the cuffs ; a pair of daik brown broad ribbed woollen cotd Trousers; a pink and white striped cotton Shirt; and a puce striped cotton Handkerchief. He is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, pale complexion, long features, high cheek brines, no whiskers, and has a deformed black tooth on tbe left side of month ; dressed in a brown cloth jacket, double- breasted dark vest, cotton cord trousers, nearly new and wide at the bottoms, white woollen scarf, and round black hat. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Saxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 4. Absconded from Worcester, charged on warrant with obtaining by false pretences a new brown Overcoat, lined with a grey material: THOMAS WOOD, about 21 years of age, 5 i'ees 5 inches higb, sallow complexion, very small sandy moustache, no whiskers, feet turn outwards, and walks iu a slouching manner. He has latterly been a cab driver, and before that he was employed as a groom ; aud when he left be was dressed as such, and will probably be - wearing jack boots. Information to be given to Detective Phillips, City Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, December 4. Obtained by fraud from the shop of Mr. James Cudman High- street, Fenton, between 5 and 6 p. m. on 27th ultimo : 1 pair No. 5 Levants, seam up the fronts, patent leather toe- cap spring sides and rivetted ; 1 pair ditto, pointed toe- cap, stitched. with white thread, spring sides and rivetted ; 1 pair ditto, block fronts with toe- cap vof patent leather and rivetted ; 1 pair black leather Slippers, which were marked on the sole near the toe in ink.' 4s. 3d.' By a young woman who represented that she was the neice of and had been sent by Mrs. Cope ol Queen- street, Fenton, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, of moderate build, fresh, and rather good looking ; dressed, as far as was noticed, in drab plaid shawl, rink hat with black fur round the rim, and dark feather across the top. Information to be given to Inspector Whitehurst, Police Station, Fenton, Stoke- on- Trent, Stafford- shire.— Bow street, December 1. Further information respecting the Goods obtained by false pretences, by a man representing himself to be carman to Messrs, McNamaia, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo : six packages of galvanized Wire Netting ; one Hamper, containing various appliances for trusses, elastic stockings, & c, ; eight boxes of Cocoa, each box con- taining 14 lbs. in small packets, labelled ' Epps' Cocoa ;' a mat Package, contained two green Venetian Blinds, 3 ft. 8| by 6 ft. 4, and two 3 feet 8|- by 5 ft. 4, white tapes and. cords; two Boxes, one containing 300, and the other 200 safety shot Cartridges, in green cases, ' James Purdy and Co.;' also two Parcels, Containing several thousand Trade Circulars, & e, s relating to Gilbey's Wine. Information to be given to BROOMER, native of Barnsley, a wire drawer, 46 years of age, 5 feet 2£ inches high, pale complexion, long face, hazel eyes, brown tiair, large nose, scar on left eyebrow, small mole on right side of neck, right aim much injured, scar on left knee, and marks of Scurvy on same leg! Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, City of Hereford.— Bow- street, December 4. Committed for trial at the next Sessions at Neither Knutsford, for obtaining Money under false pretences : a man who gave the name of GEORGE JACKSON, but hi3 real name is GEORGE SPENCER; he is 25 years; of age, 5 feet inches high, stout build, ires'u complexion, grey- eyes, and brown hair ; dressed in dark clothes, hard felt hat, and elastic side boots.
