IfUBHia, FriDAY, DECEMBER 1,1876. ENGLISH POLICE. MURDER. GOVERNMENT REWARD OF £ 100. WHEREAS, on the night of Thursday, the lflth of November instant, Police Constable Cox was brutally murdered on the highway at Netherton, near Yeovil, in the county of Somerset, and the three men herein named ( who have absconded) are charged with the murder: 1. George Hutchings— About 55 years of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, dark hair turning gray, sallow complexion, thin t'ac-% medium figure. 9. Giles Hutchings— About 80 years of age, about ft feet 0 or 7 inches high, black hair, whiskers and moustache ( may be shaved off), sallow com- plexion, thin face, downcast look. 8. Peter Hutchings— About 38 years of age, B feet 6 inches high. rath° r stout, dark browi hair, sallow complexion, marked with small- pox. The two last named persons are sons of George Hutchings, and all an nat. ves of Hardington, near Yeovil. It has been considered advisab'e not to describe the dress of the three mea, as they went home after the commission of the offence with which they are charged, and may have changed their clothes. This is to give notice that a Reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person, other than a person employed in a Police Force in the United Kingdom, who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discover/ and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary tf State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the murder, as shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. information to be given to V. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 85 years of age, sandy whirrs nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 3. James Dowd alias Thomas Sheehan— A repre- sentation of the Saviour and 2 other figures tattooed on one arm, some similar marks on the other arm; gray eyes, broad nose, fresh complexion, flat face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair s wore a frieze cap, frieze jacket, cord trowsers, frieze vest. DESCRIPTION of person unknown, who gave the name of Dunne, and stands charged with having, on the 23nd November, 1876, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Naas, stolen 6 bullocks i recovered ', the property of Mathew Fay, off his land at Osbers- town :— Red under eyes; sandy complexion, thin face, stout make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age;, wore a round hat, black coat aid overcoat; carried an umbrella Naas, November 26, 1876. Kilkenny, DESCRIPTION of John Kennedy alias Wilson, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 19th of November, 1876, in the barony of Fassadinin, parish of Castlecomer, com- mitted larceny in a lodging- house, who is returned for trial at next Quarter Sessions, and who is suspected of crime elsewhere:— Varicose veins on right leg; blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft jerry hat, faded pea jacket, barracan trowsers and vest; bears a feigned appearance to a navvy and says he worked on railways in England and France; is a tramp; at one time he said he was a stonecutter, at another a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Murphy who stands charge! with having, on the 8th day of November, 1876, in the borough of Kilkenny, parish of St. Mary's, unlawfully sold a bullock, ihe property of his master, James Dowling, of Ballyring, and absconded with the money received for said bullock, and also with a dark frieze coat belonging to James Dowling :— Fresh cut mark over left eye, slightly pock- marked ; regular nosa, fresh complexion, Iresh face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, red whiskers and hair; wore a black frock coat, corduroy trowsers, double- breasted vest, and probably dark frieze great coat; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a man, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 17th instant, at Tullamore, barony of Ballycowan, parish of Kilbride, feloniously stolen an overcoat and rug, which he pawned at Tullamore same evening:— About years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, red round full face, rather stout make; wore a loLg brown coat, cord trowsers, low felt hat, and red woollen muffler. This man travels from fair to fair as a pig jobber or drover, and may now be met with at some of the fairs in Roscommon, Galway, or Westmeath. He is of intemperate habits. Tullamore, Nov. 22, 1876. DESCRIPTION of John M'Coy, who states he is a native of 4, John- street, Belfast, and stands charged with having, on the 25th September, 187fl, in the barony of Kilmaine, parish of Ballinrobe, failed to appear at the Quarter Sessions of Ballinrobe, having been bailed to appear thereat to" tafce his trial on a charge of picking the pocket of Denis Kelly at the fair of Balla on the 25th September, 1876:— Slightly pockpitted, scum on left eye; intelligent respectable appearance ; round \ houlders, very Jiigh icr^ hcad, blue eyes, regular nose, florid cjmplexion, rel ular face, stout m » ke, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 37 or 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore a brown top coat, cross- bar tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. M., in the barony of Carra, parish of Drum, at Loonamore, discharged three shots from a revolver from behind a rick of turf at George R. Acton, esq., Bridgemount, as he drove by, returning from the fair of Balla:— Face not muscular, about 18 stone weight, seemingly a man not accustomed to bard labour, swarthy or much sun- burnt complexion, round face, very full make 5 feet 8 inches high, 40 years of age, dark sandy hair, beard and moustache; brown frieze sack coat, dark tweed vest, whitish trowsers, and a soft hat, with high crown. Descripton of Mary Jane M'Cullagh, native of Cross, Ballinascreen, who stands charged with having, on the 12th October, 1876, at feegarron in the barony of Upper Dunga; nnon, parish of Derryloran, deserted her illegitimate femele child, nearly 3 months oldBlue eyes, reguiar nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 25 or 26 jears of age, light brown hair; wore a brown dress with dark flounces, gray shawl which she wore over her head. This woman gave birth to a child in the house ot Sarah A. Hagan, Killycolps, on the 81st July, when she stated her name, & c., was as above given.
