Notice.— It is requested that all communications tor the purpose of obtaining or giving infermation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tbe Signffitdre of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE! GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Polioe Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is gives, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, i the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereef, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the JPOLICE GAZETTE, all JLefoteirs addressed to the Editor loans* be prepaid, otherwise the insertion- will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for injertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MVEBSE AND WOUKDIHa Early on the morning of the 9th instant, the dead body of a newly- born female Infant was found on the side of the highway leading from Stroud Green to Greenham Mills, close to the bridge over the Great Western Railway. The body was warm, and had a piece of tape tied tightly round the neck, and was wrapped in a copy of the ' Standard' news- paper of the 29th ultimo. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder by some person or persons unknown,' has been returned by the Coroner's Jury. • £' M reward will be paid by the Govern- ment to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murder or murderers of the child ; and Mr. Secretary Cross • will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. JAMES KEMP, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16 th instant, charged with forgery, has been apprehended and committed for trial at the nest Ipswich Assizes, and, his name is JOHN BARHAM, and he ia a farmer at Knodishall. Description of EDWARD SMITH, a builder's clerk, • who absconded from Birmingham, charged with forging and uttering a Cheque, on the 18th ultimo : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, slight build, large full eyes, has a cast in one of them, large feet, a slight deformity in one, speaks with a Scotch or Northern dialect. He is supposed to have been previously employed in Sheffield, in some builder's yard. KENDLE, about 2 p. m. on the 18th instant, near the railway station at Deeping St. James : a brown leather Purse, with elastic band, containing one Shilling and niue Pence. By a tramp, of middle age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, and black whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a black billycock hat, old black coat and trousers, and old boots cut in front. Stolen on'the 18th instant, from the person of Thomas Jellings, on Coventry race- course : a German silver Geneva Watch, white dial, steel hands, glass cracked, name inside ' T. Jellings.' Stolen from the person at Newmarket during the race meeting: On the 9th instant, a gold Watch with ' E. G.' engraved on the back ; a gold Watch, English lever, f-. plate, piece chipped off the face and case indented. On the 10th instant, a large gold lever Watch with gold face. Between 8 and 10 p. m. on the 18th instant, the house of R. Sayle, Esq., in Trumpington- road, near Cambridge, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 1 open- faced gold lever Watch, maker C. F. Magrath, London, No. 2748, with a silver snake- pattern Chain attached. 1 gold Mourning Ring, engraved inside ' David Willis Gent' and date of death. 1 silver Fish Knife, 12 inches loDg, and Fork 9 inches long. 2 large silver Butter Boats, with crest— a boar's head. 1 gold Locket, with Mr. Sayle's likeness painted on ivoiy. 1 double- lined gold Locket, with grey hair inside, 1 gold Locket, with heart and pearl attached. 1 gold neglige Chain, with snap. 1 gold Bracelet and a silver gilt Bracelet, French make, one set in emeralds aud diamonds. 1 green aqua- marine Bracelet. 1 gold cable Brooch, 1 gold Brooch, green leaf and set in diamonds. 1 rather large plain pebble Brooch, in gold setting. 1 pebble Brooch, with white forget me- not. 1 horse- shos Brooch. 1 small gold Pencil Case. The silver Mountings of the bottles of a lady's dressing case. And several Indian and Chinese gold and silver Coins. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person or persons giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Sometime between 1 and 7 a. m., on the 8th instant, the ' Vine' hotel, at Stafford, was entered and stolen therefrom : I one Sovereign ; about 18s. in Silver, and Es. or 6s. in bronze Coins; 9s. worth of postage Stamps; a double breasted drab Coat, with pockets on hips, one ticket pocket on right side and two inside breast pockets ; a briar root Pipe, with amber mouth- piece. On the night of the 7th instant., the dwelling- house of Mr. Blain, 8, Brunswick- square, Penrith, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein : a pair of sugar Tongs and six Tea Spoons, all silver and marked ' A. M. B. two plated T « a Spoons ; a pair of plated sugar Tot^ r- i; six plated Table i Spoons ; a dozen large dinner Knives auci Forks, with blacs handles ; a carving Knife and Fork, with black handles; two plated salt Spoons ; a plated mustard Spoon ; a pairs of large Scissors, one pair recently ground; two skeius of brownish home- spun Wool; six Aa. limacas& ara; and a scarlet and green flowered Cover for a small round table. Stolen on the morning of the 16th instant, at Cefnllan, parish of Llanguick : a light bay coloured heavy cart Horse, rising 7 years old, about 15 hands high, black mane and tail, black legs, in good condition, walks very wide behind ; the property of Mr. Griffith Walters. Information to be given to Superintendent Howlett, County Constabulary, Neath, Glamorgan, who will pay a reward of £ 1 and all reasonable expenses on the apprehension of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the horse.— Bone- street, October 18. Description of a man charged with stealing a Horse frotc Pontargamddwr, near Tugaron, on the night of the 5th instant, and which was afterwards found sold at Llanidloes : about 30 years of age, 5 fefit 7 or 8 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers ; dressed in grey coat and vest, cord breeches and leggings, and hard jimcrow hat. He is a Welshman, and stated that he was a haulier residing at Frougoch Lead Mines, Cardiganshire. Stolen during the night of the 12th instant, from a meadow near Southend- road, Lewisham : a bay mare Pony, about 10 years old, 13 hands high. * W. R.' branded on back, and a light spring Cart, painted dark green, lined light green, off shaft broken and repaired with seven screws, cap of near wheel split, solid pane's, • W. Gotts, 1, George- lane, Lewisham' on shafts.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, October 16. Stole'. from a cow- shed at Calae, Wilts, during the night of the lOfh ! UEt. ; tbe property of Mr. Fuller Bailey : a brown game Pullet, two duckwing Ditto, and a dark- coloured Pullet, ail about half grown. Information to be given to Superintendent Wiltshire, Police Office, Chippenham, Wilts. — Bow- street, October 13. Furthei information respecting the Mare stolen from Daventry, the property of Mr. Jeremiah Orams, and advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo. The mare has been recovered, aud a man is in custody charged with stealing the same. Another man and his wife, before described, are still at large. The man is a hawker of cheese, Boap, & c., and is supposed to be iu the neighbourhood of Wolverhampton, or the Potteries. He is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark hair, fresh ruddy complexion, clean shaved, and stout build. Information to be given to Head Constable Foster, Daventry, Northampton.— Boic- street, October 13. Stolen from a stable on the night of the T) th instant, from Mr. John Borroughs, of Jackfield, Salop : a piebald Mare, 15 hands high, 8 years old, three parts bred, and small feet. By a man about 35 yern of age, light brown hair, rattier large whiskers and moustache; dressed in brown coat, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Christie, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Thomas, Much Wenlock, Salop.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen on the night of the 21st ultimo, from a field on Llandwaud Farm, parish of Glenmorten, near Newport, Monmouth, the property of Mr. Richard Waters : a Hackney Mare, 6 years old, 15 hands high, colour bright bay, in good condition, a small white spot on forehead, a few white hairs on one hind foot, and a large lump under breast, nearly between the fore legs. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny; to Superintendent Mcintosh, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Pontypool; or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary, Newport, Mon- mouthshire.— Bow- street, October 13, On the 2nd instant, a bay Mare, 5 years old, 15 hands high, and in good, condition, broke away from the owner, Richard Keff, at Baldock, and wa- 3 afterwards stolen and taken to Loudon by a low horse dea'er, sow in custody, and remanded at the Hitchin Petty Sessions till the 17th, named TOM WILLIAMS, alias GATES, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light l air and whiskers, cut shoit, round face ; dressed in dark clothes, thiok lace- up boets. The horse has not been lecavered. Information to be given to Inspector Young, Hitchin, Herts.— Bow- meet, October 13. Stolen during the night of the 26th ultimo, from a field, at Bostol Common, Abbey Wood : a black Gelding, cob built, large head, and - white patch wider mane, in good condition. — Metropolitan Police, R Division, October 11. Found at Bury, on the 23rd ultimo : a r » d and white Cow, about 3 years old, has three hair cut marks on left side of rump. It was in possession of a man who nmde his escape, about 43 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown moustache, slight whiskers, snipe nose, aud hare lip ; dressed ia dark cloth clothes, hard billy- cock hat, aid Shoes. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Milne. County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Oaober 11. The bay Mare stolen from Newton ia Cleveland in the North Riding of Yorkshire, on the 22cd ultimo, has 2 POLICE GAZE TTK October 20 been recovered at Royston. Description of two men charged with the offence : one is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet high, very red hair, and ginger colour • whiskers, turns his feet out, and stands very ereet; dressed in a brown mixture cloth coat, vest, and trousers, and brown hard felt hat; he has the appearance of a horse dealer ; the other from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 ft. 10 ins. high, dark brown hair cut very short, slight moustache and imperial, dark eyes, and proportionate build, - walks very erect; dressed in a dark blue cloth eoat, with raised seams, dark cloth vest and trousers, and alpaca hat with button on top. These men were travelling - with a woman 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, black hair turned up at the front, and very stoutly built. They were at Great, Shelford, Cambridgeshire, on the 29th ultimo, and there disposed of tw » stolen Horses, which have since been recovered. They travel in a high dog cart, and represent themselves to be cheese hawkers. They are supposed to belong to the neigh- bourhood of Shepherd's- bush, Hammersmith, London. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, on the 14th instant, charged with stealing a gold wedding Ring, and keeper Ring : CHARLES LESTER, lately discharged from the Royal Horse Artillery, at Woolwich, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches bigb, slight figure, sandy hair, and moustache, no whiskers, thin face, tattooed on left wrist, and right wrist injured ; dressed in black jacket, dark grey trousers, and hard felt hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, October 20. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : JAMES POWEL, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 5 ir 6inches high, light complexion, full round face, left leg amputated above the knee and walks with a stick and crutch, and takes large quantities of opium. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Oldham, Lancashire.— Bow- tt., October 20. Description of a tramping drover, who is charged with stealing at Panton, on the 17th instant : a light twill Jacket, lined with check, and greasy oa the right sleeve; a pair of Shears, with ' Clipaway' on one blade, and the figure of a man clipping a sheep on the other ; oue blue and white silk Pocket Handkerchief ; and about 3£ lbs. of black Horse Hair; the property of Thomas Owen. He is about 20 or 22 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, slight build, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, double- breasted vest, red and white woollen scarf, black cap with button on top, and lace- up boots with brass eyelet holes. Information to be given to Super- intendent Henson, Market Raeon, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, October 20. Description of a man charged with stealing a bundle of Wearing Apprrel, recovered ( in company with a man who is in custody) from a cart at an inn yard in the borough of Cambridge, on the 14th instant: about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, and has lost some of his front teeth ; dressed in black coat and vest, dark plaid trousers, black felt hat, carried a walking stick, and is of shabby genteel appearance. He formerly lived at Grantchester and Stapleford, and carried on the business of a borse dealer, but lately has attended fairs and races, touting and begging. He talked of going to Hunstanton, and said he should stay at Lynn on his way there. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge. — Bow- tt, reet, October 18. Absconded on the 6th instant, from Winsley- street, Oxford- street, embezzling £ 10 : a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark ; dressed in a dark suit, and of respectable appearance ; he was last heard of at the Bell Hotel, Bury St. Edmund's.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, October 18. Description of HENRY BUTTERWORTH, charged on a warrant with stealing a blue ribbed cloth Coat and Vest, a pair- of elastic- side Boots ( kid tops and toe- caps), a Rob Roy plaid Shirt, and 15s. in Money : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, black hair, moustache, ana eye- brows ( which meet, rendering him remarkable looking); dressed in a dark tweed coat and veBt, light tweed trousers, and black hard billycock hat; a rope spinner by trade, j> nd says he is a native of Rochdale. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Warrington, Lanca- shire.— Bow- itreet, October 18. Absconded : ALFRED MILNER, late rate collector, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 18 8s. ; the property of the governor and guardians of the poor of the United Parishes of Holy Trinity and St. Mary, in the Borough of Hull, on the 2nd June last ; he is 2a or 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, very light moustache, and small whiskers; generally dresses in light clothing, and has a very effeminate manner of speaking. He left Hedon on the 13th instant, and had with him a black portmanteau, and may endeavour to leave the country. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire,— Bow- itreet, October 18. Description of a man who is charged with stealing a Hand Saw, two Planes, aad a Chisel ( all recovered), the property of Joseph Garnett, at Gainsborough, on the 10th instant: 22 to 24 years of ag « , 5 feet 3 to 5 inches high, broad set, broad face and nose, large eyes and deeply set, light com- plexion, brown hair, sandy moustache ( slight), no whiskers, and said he was a joiner ; diessed in a grey cloth cap with drooping peak of same material, dark cluth coat, no vest or stockings, and beloDgs to the county of Norfolk. Information to be given to Superintendent Sowden, Gainsborough, Lin- colnshire.— Bow- street, October 16. Absconded on the 1st instant, from Rathbone- place, embezzling £ 150 : a man, 50 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, fair, " wears a brown wig, and of respectable appearance. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, October 16. Stolen on the morning of the 9th instant: a silver verge Watch, No. 3015, the property of Henry Warman, of Chapel- street, West Bromwich, By a man, a lodger, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slender build, thin feature, rather dark complexion, full eyes, moustache, and no whiskers; dressed in short blue jacket, much worn, pockets on hips, moleskin trousers and vest, light drab socks, Boft billycock hat, blue striped cotton shirt, low shoes, and wears a strap. Information to be given at the Police Office, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- itreet, October 16, Stolen from Dartford on the 5th instant, a light Cart, | with the seat painted blue. By SEAMAN BREEDS, who is from 24 to 28 year3 of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, with dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in a drab jacket with white bone buttons, cord trousers, arid black round hat; he is a gipsy, attends fairs, & c., with cocoa nuts, and generally sleeps under a tent. Has with him an old cart and brown horse. His wife travels with him, who has black wavy hair, is a hawker, and carries a basket. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- st., Oct. 16. Stolen from Crockenhill on the night of the 11th instant: two white and one grey and white Duckas and two very dark Drakes, with rings round their necks, about three parts grown. By a man, a basket maker, 22 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches higb, light hair cut very short, small light mous- tache, whiskers shaved off, and walks very erect; dressed in a dark mixture cloth jacket, light cord trousers, and cap with peak ; he is a deserter from the army. He went in the direction of Bexley, where he is supposed to have disposed of the ducks. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, Oct. 16. Absconded from Hanley, charged with stealing on the 9th instant, an Overcoat, recovered : a woman, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion ; dressed in old black bonnet, faded red shawl, and old alpaca gown. She is travelling with a man, who has lost his right arm, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark whiskers, sings comic songs, and performs with a stick. Information to be given to Chief Constable Windle, Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 16. Stolen on the 9th instant, from the fisherman's Arms beer- house, Eastbourne, the property of Henry Wilmot and Richard Harrison : two cotton Shirts, one with blue and white stripes, the blue stripe wider than the white one, the other a twill check pattern ; and a red Wrapper, with white spots. By a man 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, slight moustache, whiskers shaved off; he said he was an engraver, but had the appearance of a shoemaker ; dressed in a dark double- breasted cutaway coat, dark trousers and vest, black bowler crown hat, and lace- up boots, nearly new, with the tops much cut about. Also stolen on the 10th instant, from the front hall at 30, Gildridge- road, Eastbourne, the property of George Fisher : a dark blue witney cloth Overcoat, with velvet collar, nearly new, has pockets at sides, and one inside left breast. By a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, slight moustache, no whiskers, front teeth project; he is an engraver, and is supposed to belong to Lancashire ; dressed in a long dark coat, dark trousers, black alpine hat, boots much worn. Information to be given to Superintendent Newnham, East- bourne, Sussex.— Bow- itreet, October 16. Stolen on the 12th instant, from the yard of the ' George Hotel,' in the city of Lichfield : a double- bieasted blue cloth Overcoat, dark linings, dark bone buttons, has two pockets outside with flaps, a small ticket pocket and inside left breast ditto, and a hard black billycock Hat, nearly new.
