ROBBERY AND LARCENY THE PERSON. Stolen on the evening of the 7th instant, from the person of Thomas James Hinds, in Cambridge- street, Aylesbury : a small gold lever Watch, No. 63346, and a gold Chain, with Seals attached, bearing the letters ' T. J, H.' on the stones. Supposed by a tramping nut hawker, 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, and light hair, cut very short. He was accompanied by a man, 45 years of age, and 5 feet 9 inches high. Information to be given to Superintendent Denson, Police Station, Aylesbury, Bucks.— Bow- street, October 9. ^ Stolen from the person on the 2nd instant : a gold lever Watch, No. 55519. Also on the 29th ultimo : a silver 1 English lever Watch, No. 4212. Information to be given to \ Superintendent Battersby, Central Police Office, Sheffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, October 9. On the 3rd instant, between 10 a. m. and 1p. m., the cottage of James Alford, of Mathon, was broken and entered,: ^ f The bay Mare stolen from Newton in Cleveland, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, on the 22ud ultimo, has Stolen by means of house- breaking, at Whittlesey, on the been recovered at Boyston. Description of two men charged 2nd instant, the property of James Marriot, : j with the offence : one is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 unbleached calico Shirts, lined at the top, deep collars, 1 11 inches to 6 feet high, very red hair, and ginger colour with round corners, one is nearly new, and one has j whiskers, turns his feet out, and stands very erect; dressed been mended behind, near the collar, each shirt has in a brown mixture cloth coat, vest, and trousers, and brown a broad plait down the front, the top of which i hard felt hat ; he has the appearance of a horse dealer ; the buttons on to the collar, at the bottom of the plait other from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 ft. 10 ins, high, dark brown and stolen therein : a Half- Sovereign, eight Shillings ( seven in silver), a Penknife with white handle, ar I an old white Pocket Handkerchief. Supposed by a tramp, about 5 feet 5 inches high, thin face ; dressed in a dark jacket, low hat or cap, old cord trousers, patched on both knees, old stronglace- ' JD boot3 with four lar^ e square nails in centre of each heel. He was going in the direction of Malvern. Information to " be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn, or to Acting Inspector Turner, Great Malvern, Worcestershire. Bow- street, October 9. Charged with stealing, with violence, from the person of is some stitching forming two rows of- squares. 1 flannel Shirt, with short sleeves. 4 cotton Pocket- handkerchies, colours, red, yellow, & « ., two of them are larger than the others. 2 long diaper Towels, with fringe, and a dark red stripe at each end. 2 white calico Pillow- cases. 1 old white Petticoat, with four tucks at bottom. 1 pair of mens' light blue worsted Stockings, which have been darned. 1 pair of mens' unbleached cotton Stockings, and several pairs of womens' and girls' white cotton ditto. Also some cooked Meat and Bread. Two men, tramps, were seen loitering near the bouse, and are suspected. They are described as being from 20 to 30 years age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, thin features, and very little if any whiskers; dressed shabbily, and both are supposed to have had blue cloth or serge coats, infor mation to be given to Inspector Burrows, Whittlesey, Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire.— Bow- street. October 6. hair cut. very short, slight moustache and imperial, dark eyes, and proportionate build, walks very erect; dressed in a dark blue cloth coat, with raised seams, dark cloth vest and trousers, and alpaca hat with button on top. These men were travelling with a woman 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, black hair turned up at the front, and very stoutly built. They were at Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire, ou the 29th ultimo, and there disposed of two stolen Horses, which have since been recovered. They travel in a high dog cart, and repiesent, themselves to be cheese hawkers. They are supposed to belong to the neigh- bourhood of Shepherd's- bush, Hammersmith, London, In- formation to be given to Superintendent Simpson, South Stockton, or to Inspector Holmes, Constabulary Office, Stokesley, North Biding, Yorkshire.— Bow- st October 11. Supposed stolen from Shirlett, on the 1st instant: a dark brown mare crib Pony, with white star on forehead, the property of Mr Rowlands. Information to be given to Superintendent Christie, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Thomas, Much Wenlock, Salop.— Bow- street, October 6. 25tn ultimo ; a large gold oval Locket with four compart- ments, one containing the Photograph of a gentleman ; a tramp about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion and light hair, n « whiskers or moustache, and slightly built; dressed in a diity white slop or jacket buttoned down the front, corduroy trousers, dark cap and heavy boots. Sometime between 1 and 7 a m , on the 8th instant, the ' Vine hotel, at Stafford, was entered and stolen therefrom : one Sovereign ; about 183. in Silver, and 5s. or 6s. in bronze Coins ; 93. - worth of postage Stamps; a double breasted drab Coat, with pockets on hips, one ticket pocket on right side and two inside breast pockets ; a briar root Pipe, with amber mouth- piece. Information to be given to Detective Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, Oc. ober 13. Stolen from the workshop and offices of Mr. Blount LASI Charged on a warrant with stealing on the of the 10th instant, from the schooner ' Harriett,' lying in Portland- roads: £ 17 10s. in Gold ; HENRY WHEATON, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, black hair, slight impediment in his speech, and a slight recent burn wound on tba neck. He formerly served in H. M. Training Ship ' Warspite,' and has a relative living in Kings- land- road, London, also friends in Glauscas- street, Devon- road, Bow, Skidmore- street, White- horse- lane, Stepney, and Earnest- street, White- horse- lane, Stepney. It is supposed that be will endeavour to engage as an ordinary seaman on a coasting or other vessel. Information to be given to Superintendent Batty, Dorset Constabulary, Dorchester.— Bow- street, October 13. Description of CHARLES COLES, charged with stealing on 2ud instant, 8s,, the monies of his employer : 22 or 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, very slight whiskers, sallow complexion, squints very much ; dressed ia old brown overcoat, cord trousers, and hard black felt hat, of very dirty appearance. He frequents low lodging and beer- houses. Information to be given to Head Constable Mathews, City Police Office, Canal, Salisbury, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen between 7 a. m. and 3 p m. on the 7th , from a dwelling- house, at Old Hill, Rowley Regis, Stafford- —- J Description of EDWARD SMITH, a builder's clerk, | who absconded from Birmingham, charged with forging and uttering a Cheque, on the 18th ultimo : about 28 years of j age, 5 feet 7 or 8 its. high, lark hair, whiskers, and moustache, J slight build, large full eyes, has a cast in one of them, large j feet, a slight deformity in one, speaks with a Scotch or Northern dialect. He is supposed to have been previously employed in Sheffield, in some builder's yard. J Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery : JOSIAH BARNSLEY, a horse dealer, 60 years of age, 6 feet high', . fresh comp'exion, eyes supposed to be grey, grey hair, small grey whiskers; dressed in dark tweed suit, black billycock hat. On the night of the 7th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Blain, 8, Brunswick- square, Penrith, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein : a pair of sugar Tongs and six Tea Spoons, all silver and marked ' A. M. B.,' two plated Tea Spoons ; a pair of plated sugar Tongs ; six plated Table Spoons ; a dozen large dinner Knives and Porks, with blacn handles ; a carving Knife and Fork, with black handles; two plated salt Spoons ; a plated mustard Spoon ; a pairs of large Scissors, one pair recently ground; two skeins of brownish home- spun Wool ; six Antimacassars ; and a scarlet and green flowered Cover for a small round table. A broad foot print without nail marks, apparently that of a boot or shoe recently soled, with small heel, was discovered in the soil near the window. Information to be given to Super- intendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constables Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, October 11. Stolen by means of house- breaking at Monks Hale, Gt. Maplestead, on the night of the 7th instant: a large silver Cruet Stand, boat shape, very . aid- fashioned, and a silver Mustard Pot, crest— a lion ; two ' high Candle Sticks, a bed- room ditto, a Toast Rack, four Egg Caps, and a small square fish Cruet Stand, all plated ; and a bottle of Sherry. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Ackers, Braintree, or to Inspector Fox, Castle Hedingham, Essex.— Bow- street, October 11. Llandwaud Farm, parish of Glenmorten, near Newport, Monmouth, the property of Mr. Richard Waters : a Hackney Mare, 6 years old, 15 hands high, colour bright bay, in good condition, a small white spot on forehead, a few white hairs on one hind foot, and a large lump under breast, nearly between the fore legs. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny; to Superintendent Mcintosh, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Pontypool; or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary, Newport, Mon- mouthshire.— Bow street, October 13. On the 2nd instant, a bay Mare, 5 yta^ s old, 15 hands high, and in good condition, broke away from the owner, Richard Keff, at Baldock, and was afterwards stolen and taken to Loudon by a low horse dea'er, BOW in custody, and remanded at the Hitchin Petty Sessions till the 17th, named TOM WILLIAMS, alias GATES, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair and whiskers, cut short, round face ; dressed in dark clothes, thick lace- up boots. The horse has not been recovered. Information to be given to Inspector Young, Hitchin, Herts.— Bow- iireet, October 13. Stolen during the night of the 26th ultimo, from a field, at Bostol Common, Abbey Wood : a black Gelding, cob built, large head, and white patch uoder mane, in good condition. — Metropolitan Police, R Division, October 11. Stolen from a field at Pontargamddwr, Caron, during the night o£ the 5th instant, the property of Mr. Stephen Jones ; an aged light bay Horse, with small star in the fore- head, ra ther grey about the head, white hind feet, switch tail, and is in the habit of crossing the tips of his ears, when, touched with the whip, supposed to have been traced in the direction of Llangurig. Information to be given to Super- intendent uloyd, Aberystwyth, or to Sergeant Roberts, Tregaron, Cardiganshire.— Bow- timet, October 11. Found at Bury, on the 23rd ultimo : a red and white Cow, about 3 years old, has three hair cut marks on left side of rump. It was in possession of a man who made his escape, about 43 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown moustache, slight whiskers snipe nose, and hare lip ; dressed in dark cloth , hard, billy- cock hat, and shoes. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, October 11. Stolen from a cow- shed at Calne, Wilts, during the night of the 10th iiust. ; the property of Mr. Fuller Bailey : a brown game Pullet, two duckwing Ditto, and a dark coloured Pullet, all about half grown. Information to be given to Superintendent Wiltshire, Police Office, Chippenham, Wilts. — Bow- street, October 13. Further information respecting the Mare stolen from. Da. ventry, the property of Mr. Jeremiah Orams, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo. The mare has been recovered, aud a man is in custody charged with stealing the same. Another man and his wife, before described, are still at large. The man is a hawker of cheese, soap, & a, and is supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Wolverhampton, or the Potteries. He is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark hair, fresh ruddy complexion, clean slaved, aiid stout build. Information, to be given to Head Constable Foster, Daventry, Northampton.— Sow- sorest, October 13, Stolen from a stable on the night of the Ut'i instant, from Mr. John Borroughs, of Jackfield, Salop : a piebald Mare, 15 hands high, 8 years old, three parts bred, and small feet. By a man about 35 yerrs of age, light brawn hair, rather large whiskers and moustache; dressed in brown coat, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Christie, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Thomas, Much Wenlock, Salop.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen on the night of the 21st ultimo, from a field on 2 October 13 shire, the property of William Wellings.: a silver lever Watch, No. 39095, and a black cloth Jacket, nsailey new. By a man who had been lodging in the house, and left on the 7th instant : about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout bu'. ld, large full face, light brown hair, no whiskers; dressed in a dark jacket and vest, grey trousers, and black billycock hat, all very shabby. He is a miner by trade, aud states that he had been tramping about the country several weeks seeking for - work, and that he had. no settled residence, and that he had recently worked at Cannock Chase, Litch- field, and at a cement works, near Coventry. Information to be given to Inspector Price, Police Station, Old Hill, Dudley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 11. Description of ALFRED NICHOLS, a railway porter, charged with stealing on the 25th ultimo, in Long Eaton, £ 3 2s. in Money, and a gold albert Chain,, pierced pillar and belcher pattern," with S wivel, Seal set with two stones, the property of Edwin Cox : about 29 years of age, 5 feet 16 ins. high, light complexion, light brown hair, whiskers, and moustacke ; dressed when he absconded in a dark pilot over- coat, with velvet collar, and a light - dust coat under, black cloth trousers, much worn, and black soft billycock bat. He has been a porter at Trent Station, Midland Railway Com- pany, previously employed as under steward in the Allen line of steamers. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, Constabulary Office, Derby, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 11. Description of WALTER ALLEN, charged with embezzling 4s. 5jd., the money of George Albert Nickols, at Hitchin : he is about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, brown curly hair, fair complexion, slightly pock pitted ; dressed in grey tweed coat and vest, and is a photographer ; he is accompanied by a young man, a photographer; they have with them a small apparatus, which they push about the country. Information to be given to Inspector Young, Hitchin, Herts, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, October 11. Charged with stealing £ 2 10s., from the on the night of the 22nd ultimo, at Nantwich : ANN HULSE, alias GRAYTER, a native of Nantwich, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, large full grey eyes, long thin features, rather prominent nose, has a sullen and dissipated appearance, speaks broad, pro- portionately built, and has a short quick step ; dressed in a dark shabby polonaise, with greyish coloured skirt, and small shabby dark felt hat, turned up at sides. Is acconpanied by her brother in law, JAMES HULSE, who is charged with aiding and abetting in the same robbery: about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair wears it long, small sunken grey eyes, has a slight turn in left eye, rather long thin features, has small thin light brown whiskers, all round face, liaa a downcast look, propor- tionately built; dressed in light moleskin trousers, double breasted vest, same material, white linen slop, with pockets at sides, soft billycock hat, and fancy lace- up clogs. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Satton, Constabulary Office, Nantwich, Cheshire, who holds a warraut for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 11. Description of RICHARD WOODS, bricksetter, late of Tattenhall, who absconded on the 3rd instant, charged with larceny : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, slight moustache, and slender build; dressed in white jacket, corduroy trousers, elastic- side boots, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Wilson, Constabulary Station, Tattenhall, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, October 11. Stolen from a public- house at Preston, at 2 a. m. on the 6th instant: a silver dead- beat Watch, chronometer balance, maker ' Thomas Yates, Preston, No. 3041/ had attached a heavy gold albert Chain, short square links, with a Key bloodstone on one side, and a white stone on the other ; also two Sovereigns and six Shillings. By a low- set man, dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— — Bow- street, October 9. Stolen from the dwelling- house of John Monckton, of Pattingham on the 25th ultimo : a silver Geneva Watch. By a labourer, of Pattiogham, about 25 years of age. 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion ; dressed in dark striped trousers and vest, black coat, and dark rough overcoat, and soft billycock hat; the watch has been recovered. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector McCrea, Tottenhall, or to Police Constable Cragg, Pattingham, Wolverhampton, Staf- ford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 9. Description of WILLIAM BROCKBANK, alias BROCKLEBANK, who absconded fiom Birkenhead, on the 4th instant, charged with stealing one Sovereign, and a silver lever Watch, open face, white dial, seconds hand, gold hands and hinges, plain case, No. 5897, maker Biackhurst, Crewe : he is 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, rather long thin features, pockpitted, long nose, light brown hair, slight moustache, and no whiskers; dressed in dark blue tweed dress coat, light tweed trousers and vest, blue cloth cap with peak, and elastic- side boots; his wife resides at Firs- lane, Westleigh Mills, Leigh, Lancashire, and he is well known at Crewe, Wavertree, and Bolton. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, October 9. Stolen from the dwelling- house of William Evans, of Wrekin- road, Wellington, on the 4th instant: a black French merino Skirt, with two deep flounces; a black over Skirt, trimmed with crape ; and a black French merino Jacket, trimmed with erape. By SARAH PURCELL, a native of Sturchley, Salop, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, arsd oval face. Information to tie given to Chief Superintendent Ivins, or to Sergeant Hayward, Wellington, Salop, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, October 9. Stolen on the 2nd instant, from a vessel lying in the Ipswich Dock : a pair of spring- side Boots, recovered, also a dark cloth Waistcoat, with blue stripes, large size ; the property of William Coward, Also a blue pilot cloth Waist- coat, full size, has been worn ; the property of Thomas Downs, seaman, on board the said vessel. By a man, about 19 years of ige, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, slight moustache ; dressed iu blue serge Jacket, old blue cloth coat, dark cord trousers, and old dark coloured cap, was engaged as seuaan on board the said ship from Liverpool to Ipswich. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich.— Baw- strent, October < 6. Charged with stealing from a lodging house at Market Rasen, at 5 a. m. on the 4th instant: a plum- coloured cloth Coat, with five pockets outside, and two inside; a pair of lavender cloth Trousers, nearly new; a pepper and salt cloth Hat; a pair of militia Socks ; a- magenta silk Neckerchief, rather greasy ; a black pilot cloth Jacket, black velvet collar, botuad with black braid, torn near the collar on left side, lining torn in centre of back ; a pair of strong laee- up Boots,; a IL lf- Sovereign, aiad 9s. 6d. Silver : a tramp, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, ginger whiskers and mous- tache, has a boil on chin. He is supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Henson, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, October 6. Absconded on the 20th ultimo, charged with larceny at Terrington St. Clement : GEORGE MASTERS, alias DUCKEY, native of Grimston, Norfolk, a labourer, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3h inches high, brown eyes, hair, and whiskers, swarthy complexion, and of dirty appearance ; dressed in dark coat or jacket, beaverteen trousers, and chummy hat, all much worn and dirty. Information to be given to Superintendent Carter, Terriogton, King's Lynn, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 6. Further information respecting the man named JOHN HOLDERNESS, alias JNO. ALLEN, alias GIPSY JACK, a poacher, who is charged with stealing seven Fowls from the premises of Mr. Samuel Gam pain, at Whaplode Marsh ( as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 25th ultimo): he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stoutly built, dark complexion, hair, aud whiskers ( round the chin), and has on right side of head a white patch of hair about the size of a crown- piece ; dressed in an old blue pilot cloth jacket, with pockets at sides, cord trousers, fustian vest, red and white muffler tied in a knot in front, and blue cloth cap with j? eak.
