At the coroners inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown was returned. Stolen by means of house- breaking from the dwelling- house of James Ash, at Ward End, on the 4th instant : a gold Keeper Ring, 18 carat. By a man, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, palo complexion, and large full eyes; dressed in black cloth coat and vest, light grey trousers, and soft felt hat. Stolen by means of hcuse- breaking from the dwelling- house of Benjamin Starkey, Gravelly Lane, Erdington, at Aston, between 9 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 29th ultimo: one silver Geneva Watcb, - with ' J. Kent' scratched on the inside of case ; oue common gold- coloured Locket and Albert Cham attached ; one wooden Pipe and Case ; and one Locket in the shape of a heart. Between 11 p. m. on the 28th, and 7 a. m. on the 29th ult., a dwelling- house in Lichfield, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about half au- ounce of gold Nuggets ; four Bottles of Champagne ; three Eggs ; and a small quantity of Bread, Butter, and Meat. HISCOCK, charged on a warrant with uttering and forging on the 14th ultimo, a Cheque for £ 18 10s., on the Shaftesbury Branch of the Wilts and Dorset Bank: he is about 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, very thin on the top, email whiskers and moustache. He stated that he belonged to Somerset House, resided near Russell- square, Bloomsbury, and was sent out by the Govern- ment inspecting nuisances in different districts. Stolen from the person of John Ball, of Wigan- road, Deane, Bolton, at 10' 30 p. m. on the 3rd instant : a silver lever Watcb, gold balance, gold hinges, No. 1904, and about 4s. Absconded from Old Hill, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, charged with stealing £ 1 7s. from the person of Thomas Jones, at Old Hill, on the 23rd ultimo : a man, about 43 years of age, 5 feat 6 or 7 inches higb, light brown hair, sandy whiskers, upper lip and part of chin shaved ; dressed in white slop, moleskin trousers, soft black billycock hat, and lace- up boots ( nearly new). He has a relative living in Birmingham, and has been working in brick yards as a labourer, and driving a horse and cart. Has recently been en ployed in brick yards at Halesowen and Oldbury, near Birmingham. Stolen from the person in Berwick- upon- Tweed, on the 31st ultimo : a silver lever Watch, No. 12699, single cased, engine turned, with ' Robert Friar, Berwick,' on dial. Absconded, a woman, charged with stealing a Watch ( recovered) from the person on the 1st January last, at Bolton Railway Station : about 35 years of age, medium height, rather eallow complexion, dark hair, stoutly made, and gene- dreesed in monkey jacket, white trousers, light ci, p, with flaps tied up with string, and the stolen shoes. He was supposed to be- wearing the stolen Boots, and carried a small bundle, tied up in a blue trimmed with black velvet. — Metropolitan Police, T Division, September 8. Absconded, GEORGE BURKETT, late a traveller,, charged with embezzlement : be is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, deeply pock- pitted, blue eyes, light hair, red whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, rather large nose, part of one upper front guernsey, and is supposed to be a. fisherman. Information to be given to Sergeant Biggadike, Long Sutton, or to Inspector Ward, County Police Station, Holbeach, Lincolnshire. — Bow- street, September 4. Between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the cottage of George Hornby, Ruston Parva, East Riding, was broken into by taking out the window, and £ 2 3s. iu Gold and Silver, and a silver lever Watch, No. 39145, stolen. Supposed by some tramping harvester. Information to be given to Super- intendent Harper, Police Office, Great Driffield, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, September 1. Stolen by , means of housebreaking, from tke dwelling- house of Wm. Slaney, Moor End Green, between 9 a. m. and 3 p. m. on the 30th ultimo : one black cloth Coac and Vest; one pair of black cloth Trousers ; one pair of black and grey plaid Ditto; two white Pocket Handkerchiefs; four large Ditto ; one pair of cameo Sleeve Links, gold ; one double barrel breech- loading Revolver; and the silver Fittings belonging to a lady's work box. Absconded, ALFRED NIEMYAKI, charged with larceny, by a servant : he is a Pole, 35 years of age, 5 ft. 5 ins. high, iresh complexion, large eyes, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache; dressed iu soft tommy hat, and pepper and salt suit, and is of gentlemauly appearance. Information to be given to Detective Superintendent Battersby, Sheffield. — Bow- street, S- ptembir 8. Absconded on the 1st ins- taut, from No. 51, Lambs Conduit- street, embezzling J> 5 : a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion and moustache, impediment iu his speech, thick lips, teeth slightly projecting, and shuffling walk ; dressed in a black cloth jacket, blue trousers, felt hat, aud low shoes. He has a relative residing in West- passage, Blue TOWD, Sheerness, Kent.— Metropolitan Police, E Divi- sion, September 8. Absconded on the 4th instant, from Lower Gornal, near Sedgley, charged ou a warrant with stealing : a Sovereign; a German silver Watch; and a dark cloth Waistcoat, the property of Charles Crew : HENRY ROBERT GARRATT, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light brown hair, no whiskers, fair complexion, slender build, double set of upper teeth, nose injured by a blow, and turns a little on one side; dressed in abluepiiot jacket, dark cloth vest, light coloured cord trousers, lace- pp boots, black billycock hat ; he is a labourer, and will probably seek employment in the bop picking districts, in Kent. Committed for trial at the ensuicg cuarter sessions at Mold, in October next, for lareeuf- EDWARD SMITH, alias McKENZIE, alias THOMP- SON, alias KELLY, £ 4 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, long visage, grey hair and whiskers, brown moustache, grey eyes, cut mark on right eyebrow, nose injured and inclined to the left, cut mark on left cheek under the eye, bum mark on breast, said a wart on centre of back; dressed iu old black jimcrow hot, white linen slop, dark tweed vest, light brown cloth trousers, elastic- side boots. He says he is a native of Drogheda, Ireland, that he Las been a soldier, and has lately worked in Liverpool as a ship's carpel' i r. WILLIAM ROBERTS, 53 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, nose injured and very flat, has lost the upper front teeth, brown hair, very light., thick brown wMakers, grey eyes, small sear marks on shoulder and centre of back ; dressed in old black jimcrow hat, brown speckled cloth jacket, blue cloth vest, moleskin trousers, and lace- up boots. He says he is a native of Llanrwst, Denbighshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Holy- well, or to the Governor of the County Gaol, Mold, Flintshire, who will supply photographs on application. — £ ow- str& et, September 6, _ The two men advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30lh ultimo, have been committed for trial at the ensuing sessions for Leicestershire, on a charge of having stolen the Sheeting found in their possession, the same having been stolen in Leicestershire. Information to be given to Superintendent Holloway, Constabulary Station, Market Harborough.— Bow- street, September 6. Committed for trial at the next Winter Gaol Delivery, to be ho'den at Leeds, on a charge of forgery: GEORGE WATERTON PREST, 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, rather long features, long brown lva'r, combed straight back from his forehead, full beard and moustache ; he is of good address, and a great talker, has lectured on religion and on temperance ; he has been an officer in the army," and is well known in Leeds as the ' MAJOR'; he professes to be a share broker in business at Hackfall, near Ripon, and is a native of Masham, Ripon. Information to be given to Super- intendent Fearnside, Town Hall, Pontefract, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 4. Description of a man sentenced to six weeks imprison- ment for stealing Boots from a shop- door, at Bradford- on- Avon : SAMUEL JONES, a tailor and a native of Ludlow, Salop, about 35 years of a » e, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh com plexion, brown hair, light brown moustache, and small tuft of hair on chin ; dressed in a shabby dark mixture suit. He has been travelling about the country with a short female, whom he called his wife, and two girls, one about 16, the other about 13 years of age. Information to be given to Superintendent White, Trowbridge, Wilts. — Bow- street, September 4, On the morning of the 29th ultimo, the dead body of a boy, apparently about 10 years of age, was picked up on the shore near Beachy Head ( supposed to have been in the water two or three weeks). At the coroner's inquest an open verdict was returned, Description of the body : about 10 years of age, 4 feet high, di » rk hair, and rather stout figure ; dressed in a check shut, light braided jacket, knickerbockers, brown socks, and patent leather laee- up boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Deputy Chief Constable Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex.— Bow- street, September 4. Missing from Romford, since the 10th July last: EMMA SALISBURY, a domestic servant, 23 years of age 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, and brown hair ; dressed in black bonnet, with coloured flowers, black cloth jacket, and black dress. It is feared that some ill has befallen her. Information to be given to Inspector Pepper, Romford' Essex.— Bow street, September 4. Remanded to Mold Gaol until the 7th instant, charred with larceny : WILLIAM JONES, 38 years of age, 5 feet 3f inches high, nearly black hair, hazel eyes, thin face, has a blue mark across the forehead, large scar right side of forehead, and a small one left side of forehead ; dressed in a brown tweed coat, tweed vest, cotton cord trousers, and black bowler hat. He is a shoemaker, and was born at Wrexham, where he resided up to 10 or 12 years ago, and says he has worked in various parts of Yorkshire, Information to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Holywell, or to Inspector McLaren, Rhyl, Flintshire.— Bow- street, September 4. Description of CHARLES RICHARDS, remanded at Wells, until the 11th instant, charged with obtaining Goods by false pretence: he is 34 years of age, 5 feet 10$ inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, red whiskers and moustache, walks erect, and is tattooed ou the right arm with a sailor, and on the left with a man nailed to a cross, and a ring on the third finger ot the right hand ; dressed in dark mixture coat, imitation sealskin vest, brown mixture trousers mended at the knees, and soft black bowler hat; he states he was discharged from the Royal Artillery disabled, about 3 years ago, and that since then he has been travelling about the country. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Bisgood, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Yowles, Wells, Somersetshire.— Bow street, September 4. Remanded at Epworth, till the 8th instant, charged with larceny from the person : THOMAS PEPPER, a tailor, 22 years of age, 5 feet 3| inches high, brown hair ( cut short), blue eyes, fresh com- plexion ; dressed in grey cloth coat and trousers, dark cloth vest, brown billycock hat, all much worn. He states he has worked at Sheffield, Manchester, and Wakefield. JOHN SMITH, a bricklayer's labourer, 51 years of age 5 feet 4£ inches high, blue eyes, light brown hair ( turning grey), small moustache, no whiskers, scar on bridge of nose and between the eyebrows ; dressed in old black cloth coat and vest, grey cloth trousers, Scotch c* p, grey woollen shirt, red and black check scarf, « « ld lace- up boots. He states that he has resided in Blackbourn, " Wakefield, Halifax, and Bradford. Information to be given to Inspector Crawford, Epworth, Bawtry, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, September 4. Description of CHARLES BEAUMONT, a tramp, com- about 4 feet 10 inclie? high, ruddy complexion, brown hair and E eyes, scar over left eye, very stout build ; dressed ia round s drabbet jacket and vest, cord trousers, calico shirt, worsted i stockings, strong laee- up boots, woollen cap with peak and < check border, and a knot on the top. He has been employed |, as a baker, and absconded from Mr. D. Parsons, Miller and j. Baker, Odell Mills, near Bedford, with whom he was living 1 on licence from the Bedfordshire Reformatory^ £ 1 reward [ will be paid for his apprehension. Stolen be tween the 23rd and 29 th ultimo, from Redworth- j street, Kennington : a sealskin Jacket,' Swan aud Edgar'j on back of neck, pocket inside, lined with dark brown satin, and a gold open face lever Watch, figure of a man engraved | at back. By a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, 1 dark complexion, hair, and eyes ; dressed in check coat, dark mixture trousers, black vest, straw hat, and spring- side boots. — Metropolitan Police, L Division, September 6. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Newport Pagnell: one Half- Sovereign ; a gold Ring, engraved inside ' In Memory of Sarah Compton, died May 6th, 1864, aged 21 Years'; a small gold Pin ; and a small silver Pencil- case ; the property of Thomas Kilpin, of Newport Pagnall. By a tramping tailor, who had worked for Mr, Thomas Kilpin about six weeks, and absconded on the 4th instant. Supposed by a man who lodged at the house two nights, and left early on the above morning : about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, full face, dark brown hair, no whiskers, and rather stout figure; dressed in dirty moleskin trousers, black velvet cap, and supposed the stolen coat, his old coat being left behind ; he had the appearance of a foundryman. Supposed by a man between 35 and 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 itches high, slender build, no moustache or whiskers, and bair cut short; dressed in a blue cloth monkey jacket, brown cord trousers, and soft black cap with peak of the same material. Stolen in the borough of Bolton during the month of August: On the 3rd, from the person of a boy 8 years of age : a blua pilot cloth Overcoat, nearly new, two pockets outside with flaps over, lined inside with blue and red plaid woollen lining, and belt attached to the back of the same material. On the 5th .- a youth's blue cloth Overcoat, frock shape, two pockets in laps behind, one inside left breast, black cloth buttons, double- breasted, and blaak velvet collar ( was for- merly a police overcoat and had beed turned). On the 10th : a blue and white striped Dress, trimmed with dark blue stuff round the bottom, and blue covered buttons up the front; a cashmere Crossover, trimmed with black lace, and bows up the back ; a lady's black rough cloth Jacket, double- breasted, with two imitation pockets outside, and black buttons up the front; a black leather Satchel; and about 12s. By a woman, who had lodged in the house about a fortnight, 19 years of age, dark brown hair, fair complexion, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes, as she left her own behind. She is likely to be found at brothels or low refreshment houses. She stated she belonged to Stockton- on- Tees. On the 7th : a Smoothing Plane, stamped at the end with the letters ' T. W. F.' On the 23rd : a single- breasted black and grey plaid Vest, without collar, black bone buttons, puce and white striped lining. On the 26th : a new red and white plaid regatta Shirt, and 28 yards of brown Coburg, 40 inches wide. Ou the 31st, from a beer- house : £ 6 10s. in Gold, and 10s. in Silver. By a lodger, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, sallow complexion, blue eyes, thick nose, wide nostrils, no hair on eyebrows, no beard or whiskers, slight sandy moustache ; dressed in dirty moleskin trousers, and white linen jacket underneath a dark cloth coat. Description of a convict on license, who has failed to report, at Saint Helen's, her change of residence : JANE TAIT, Reg. No. X 11, 34 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, black hair, blue eyes, dark complexion, scar on forehead and left eyebrow, large mole on left shoulder, and has lost several upper teeth. She was convicted at the Manchester Sessions on tbe 19th June, 1871, of larceny from the person, and sen- tenced to 7 years penal servitude and 7 years police super- vision, and was liberated on license from the East End Refuge, Finchley, on the 25th February last.
