Antrim; DESCRIPTION of Henry M'Dowell, native of Bally- bollen, who stands charged with having, on the 12th July, 1875, in the barony of Upper Toome, parish of Grange, assaulted Andrew Black, at Gillestown, who died on the 8th instant:— Bow legs, short thick neck, wore all his beard; blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 80 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft hat, dark coat, striped trowsers, dark vest. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following: DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Cooladerry, county Cork, E R, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1876, in the Darony of Coshlea, parish of Kilbehany, fired at Patten S. Bridge, esq., agent to Nathaniel Buckley, esq., Galtee Castle:— Rather short neck, slightly round shoulders; Brown ayes, hooked nose, fresh slightly freckled complexion, long face, stout make 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown curly hair, sandy whiskers; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers, light vest. DESCRIPTION of 2 persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 80th March, 1876, in the barony of Condons and Clangibbon, parish of Mitchelstown. been two of a party who fired at and wounded Patten Bridge, esq., and Constable Mathew Nugent, and shot John Hyland dead at same time and place :— 1. Unknown— Fair complexion, stout make 5 feet 10 inches high, about 86 years of « ge sandy whiskers nearly meeting under the chin; wore a cloth frock coat; had his face blackened. 2. DESCRIPTION of Denis Murphy, native of Knockna- boola dist ict of Killarney, Kerry, who stands charged with having. on the « 8rd July, 1876, at Kingwilliamstown, in the barony of Duhallow, pirish of Nohavaldaly, so seriously assaulted Michael Conners that he died on the 25th July, 1870, ( see Hue- and- Cry, 1 st August, 18? 6):— Gray eyes, regular cose, fair complexion, thin face, stout make, 5 feet 5 ioches high, about 20 years of age ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of convict William Kerr ( 2411), who has broken the conditions of his licence, in having left Dublin without reporting his departure to ihe Police:— Convicted at Cork, at June Sessions, on 7th June, 1872, f jr larceny from the person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 35 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Ptot^ s- tant, single, is a tea dealer, born in Dublin; resided before conviction in Mary- street, Dublin; states that he has no friends; light brown hair, giay eyes, light brown eyebrows, large hooked nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, thin oval visage, slender make, 5 fe.' t niches high; mole on left eyebrow, " M. M'S." tattooed on right arm. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Convict Prison, May 6, 1870, on an order of licence, and took his discharge for Dublin, which place he left without reporting himself. Emanuel Elliott— Blue eyes, fresh complexion, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age ; wore a round hat, Oxford mixture jacket, black trowsers tad vest; is wearing one of the stolen suits; is a labourer. 2. DESCRIPTION of convict John Woods ( 9031', who has broken the conditions of his licence, in not reporting himself to the Constabulary ou change of residence:— Convicted at Castlebar, county Mayo, at Spring Assizes, on I3tn March, 1873, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 18 years of age on conviction, res. ds and writes a little, is a Roman Catholic, single, states he is a stoker's attendant; born at Liverpool; resided before con- viction at Ballycroy, counly Mayo, where he has friends residing; light brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, long nose, regular mouth, small space between two front teeth in lower jaw, fair complexion, small oval visage; a cut on first finger of lefc hand; a cut on front of forehead, right side ; a small cut on cheek near right eje, a cut at right side of mouth, a sore mark on right side of neck ; slender make, 6 feet 7 inches high. The above- named convict was released from Mount- joy Prison, 13th March, 1876. on an order of licence. This man reported himself to the Constabulary at Drogheda on the 11th June, 1876, and stated that he would leave on that evening for Ballycroy, county Mayo, but he has failed to report himself there, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 6th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act. 84 and 85 Vic., chap. 113. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, July 7, 1876. DESCRIPTION of John Smith native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 15th July, 1876, in the barony of Dunboyne. parish of Dunboyne, stolen a pair of boots from a fellow lodger:— Dark eyes, ordinary nose, dark complexion, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark slight moustache; wore a dark coat; is a tramp blacksmith. Description of the boots:— Nearly new, elastic sides, 2 rows of nails round soles, and 3 nails across sole in two different parts ; value 14*. Dunshaughlin, July 20,1876. ( 10006 c.— 18072.) DESCRIPTION of 8 persons, names unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 17th June, 1876, in the barony of Demifore, parish of Killeagh, demanded an entrance into the dwelling of Daniel Murphy, of Ross, and, having been refused, fired two shots and threatened his life if he proceeded with an ejectment process against a man named Harry Coyle:— 1. Unknown— Long thin face and nose, slight make, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 22 years of age; wore a hairy cap with peek, frieze frock coat, dark trowsers. 2. Unknown— Round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 years of age; wore a black jerry hat, frieze frock coat, dark trowsers. 8. Unknown— Stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age; wore a black jerry hat, frieze frock coat, dark trowsers. Kells, June 18, 1876. ( 9665 17476.) Monaghan DESCRIPTION of Thomas Harris, native of Cool- arthur; James M'Bennett, native of Lemgar; Ned Burns; Henry Boyd, native of Lisnagrieve; and Patrick Trainor, native of Lemgar, who stand charged with having, on the 99 th day of June, 1876, in the barony of Cremorne, parish of Clontibret, been concerned in the shooting of James Clarke :— 1. Thomas Harris— Dark eyes, slightly cocked Lose, florid complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair, slight brown beard and moustache; is a farmer's sou. 2. James M'Bennett—- Gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age; wore a soft hat and black frock coat; is a school monitor. 8. Ned Burns— Smart appearance ; gray eyes, regu- lar nose, sallow complexion, round face, 5 feet 5 inchcs high, about 20 years of age, no beard or whiskers; wore a cloth cap, dark tweed coat; is a tramping tailor. 4. Henry Boyd— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, light brown hair, wears all his beard which is light brown; wore a low crown hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a farmer. 5. Patrick Trainor— Broad shoulders; dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, dark brown hair, dark whiskers, chin shaved; is a farmer's son. . Monaghan, July 7, 1876. DESCRIPTION of James Brennan ( Paddy Denisson,) native of Lemgar, who stands charged with having, on tho 29th June, 1876, in the barony of Cremorne, parish of Clontibret, been concerned in the shooting of James Clarke :— Smart active appearance ; bluo oyes, regular nose, fair freckled complexion, sandy whiskors, 5 feet 7 inches high. about 26 years of age, fair hair; wore a low brown hat, black cloth coat, light Windsor trowsers; is a farmer. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, AUGUST 11, 1876. residence:— Convicted at Castlerea, county Eos- common, at Michaelmas Sessions, on 19th October, 1869, for felony of sheep and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, can neither read nor write, is a Roman Catholic, is married and has 7 children, is a labourer, born in Williamstown, resided before conviction in Castlerea, where his friends reside; bald, gray hair, blue fyes, gray eyebrows,' sharp hooked nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, lost all the teeth out of upper jaw, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high. The above- named convict was released from Spike Island Prison, 18th March, 1875, on an order of licence. He reported himself to the Constabulary at Ballaghaderreen on the 30th June, 1876, and stated that he intended to change his residence to Galway town, and would report himself there; he has failed to do so, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5 th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 84 and 85 Vic., chap. 119. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, 18th July, 1876. Clare, and who stands charged with having, on the 81st July, 1876, in tbe barony of Clanwilliam, parish ol Athassel, burgla- riously entered the house of James Butler, of Ardo breen, and stolen a quantity of property therefrom :— Cataract on each eye, very heavy jaws, mark of an old slab on left elbow, speaks with an American accent ; blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 4f itches high, about 87 years of age, brown hair; woro a soft felt hat, dark coat, troweers and vest. DESCRIPTION of a tramp, name unknown ( supposed to be Joseph Byrne), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 26th day of July, 1876, in the barony of Lower Talbotstown, parish of Boystown, at Ballynocken, stolen a silver Geneva watch with brass chain attached, watch marked on inside of case John Quinn, Mabbotstreet," the property of John Cummins, and value for about £ 3:— Tattooed " H T" on lack of left hand, star cm back of right hand, ship on breast, several other marks with Indian ink on both hands ; regular nose, fresh complexion, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 91 years of age, curled sandy hair, small moustacne ; wore a gray frock coat, gray trowsers with stripe, dark vest, soldier's boots.
