S' WOUH0IKG, About 8 a. m., on the 16th instant, the dead Body of a newly- born Female Child was found in a meadow in the parish of Thorley, near the town of Bishop's Stortford, ad- joining the turnpike- road. The body was wrapped up in a Bishop's Stoitford newspaper, dated the 10th JuDe. At the Coroner's Inquest, on the 17th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder, against some person or persona unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder, Police Station, Bishop's Stortford, Herts.— Bow- street, Jane 23. Description of GEORGE SMITH, charged with the manslaughter of Thomas Hilton, at Walton- on- Thames, on the 14th instant: he is a travelling chair bottomer and basket maker, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers, and sallow complexion ; • dressed in a pepper and salt jacket, dirty moleskin trousers, black soft felt hat. Supposed to beloc, to have a brother residing at Reading, in the company of pea pickers. Information to be given to Superintendent Bitngard, Surrey Constabulary, Cheitsey, Bou>- street, June 23. 26th ultimo : a man named JOSEPH ROWLAND, alias ROLINGS, alias THOMAS, a native of Bow, London, has been committed for trial ( on the charge) at Maidstone Assizes, on the 11th instant : he is about 60 years of age, 5 feet 8 iuches high, full face, and stoutly build ; dressed in dark jacket and trousers, and round hat. He attends fairs, races, & c., card sharping, and is known as the CAPTAIN. None of the property lias been recovered. Another man was in the company of Rowland, and is still at large, he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, and dark whiskers; dressed in dark clothes, and high crown hat. Between 8 a. m. aud 5 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, the cottage of Charles Hill, labourer, Yardley, was broken and entered and stolen therein : an old suit of light grey Clothes, much worn; one black Vest,- one flag Basket ; aud au old silver verge Watch. CHA. PALMER, labourer, 19 years of age, 5 feel high, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes, and warts on right hand; and ROBERT PALMER, labourer, 20 years of age, 5 feet high, very dark complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. Both are natives of Axmiuster, and have been apprehended on suspicion. Between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of William Milham, was broken into, at West Grin- stead, Sussex, and stolen therein : an old silver hunting Watch, No. 8609, maker Gochshere, Tottenham ; a small Chain attached, tied with a piece of blue ribbon. Supposed by a man, rather respectably dressed, walks very erect, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, thin face, dark hair, no whiskers, srpall moustache, slight figure ; dressed in a brown coat, spotted vest, dark trousers, and light alpine hat. Stolen on the night of the 18 th instant, from the person of William Hunter, at Ingham : a double- case silver lever Watch, enamelled dial, with seconds band, capped and jewelled. No. 10467, ' Wm. Woolsey' engraved on plate, and a Hair Guard attached ; also £'•> 5s. 9d. By JOHN ALLEN, a native of Willoughton, near Kirton Lindsey : he is 24 yrs, • of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eye3, black hair, scar on back of right hand, and over right eye; • dressed in a grey suit of clothes, black billy hat, and militia boots. He was discharged from the Royal North Lincoln Militia on the 9th instant; was traced to Market Risen, where he took train for Hull on the night of the ISth instant, slept at a house in Hull on the following night, and left there next morning at 8 a. m. Between 10 p. m. on the 22nd and 6 a. m. on the 23rd instant,; the cottage of Richard Smith, stonemason, Abbey- lane, Belgrave, Leicestershire, was broken aud entered and stolen therein : a chased electro- plated Teapot., Sugar Basin, and Cream Jug, all oval shaped, with ' P. W, from W. B.' engraved on fhe ouside of each ; a half- pint marmalade Glass Jar, with electro- plated lid and case, worked in bars ; a mar- malade Spoon, iu the shape of a shovel ; live silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S.'; two common Wine Glasses : and two small white calico Night Dresses, to fit a little child. During the hours of 10 30 p. m. on the 24tb, and 8 a m. on the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William King, farmer, of High On gar, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: a pair cf silver Candlesticks; a plated Candlestick ; a toast Rack ; a . pair of plated Snuffers and Tray ; a large silver square Cruet Stand, with sever, glasses, three of them with silver tops ; a pair of plated Decanter Stands; a silver cream Jug, with initials ' M. W. K.'; a butter Knife, with bone hand Is; two table Covers, one of them woollen aud very thick ; and a plated Teapot. It waa traced through Buntingford and Ware by way of Stamford- hill info London, reaching there at 5 p. m. on 27tb ultimo. Description of a man who is charged, at Wakefield, with stealing 32 fat shearing Sheep fiom Crofton Park, during the night or the 20th nitfnio ; ' he property of George Scholey, of Badsworth : about 35 years of age. 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather datk complexion, dark brown bair, whiskers, aud moustache ; dressed in a black billycock hat, a dark suit, and lade- op boots. Stolen from Tynycaean Farm, Peterston- super- Ely, near Cardiff, on. the night ot the 25th instant: two strong col) Mares, one light bay colour, about lajj hands higb, black mane and tail, white oblong star on forehead, stout body, light legs, puffed in the hocks, and aged; the other about 10 hands high, 6 years old, dark bay colour, black mane aud tail, large white star ou forehead, more square than the other, and two white hind fetlocks, and dent in the navel. Further information respecting the light brown horse 2 July 7 Pony, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant: it is Russian bred, 6 years old, 12^ hands high, thick neck and mane, white star on forehead" and cow < hock. £ 10 reward will be paid by the Edlesborough Association, and £ 5 by Henry Rogers, the owner, on recovery of the pony, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Sergeant Bowden, Ivinghoe, or to Inspector Sapwell, Police Station, Liuslade, Backs,— Bow- st., June SO. Stolen during the night of the 27th instant, from a stable in the New Cross- road : a dark bay Pony, 13 hands high, short tail, near ear clipped ; and a bay Gelding, 15 hands high, near hind foot and Btar on forehead white, both aged, and wore leather head stalls. Supposed by two men, one 22 years of age, 6 feet high, fair complexion, hair, and mous- tache ; dressed as a horse coper, and is an associate of gipsies; the other is a gipsy, 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, very dark complexion, black hair and moustache, and no whiskers. Charged on a warrant, as a bailee, with stealing, on the 13th instant, a horse Pony, recovered: DAVID ADAMS, 21 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, pockpitted, and of slender build ; he be- longs to Easingwold, and gathers rags, & c. Information to be given to Inspector Ellerby., North riding Constabulary, Easingwold, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 26. Pound at Brentwood on the night of the 11th instant, and ( supposed to have been stolen : a gray she Asa, 7 or 8 years old, in good condition, and without shoen. Information to be given to Superintendent Dobson, Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Boir- street, June 26. Stolen from Parka Farm, near Bridgend, on the night of the 20th instant, the property of Mr. David Edwards : a dark bay Horse, 6 years old, near hind foot white, small white star on forehead, and rather low in the back ; and a grey Mare, aged, near hind and fere feet white, and has been blistered on the neck. Two Horses, answering the above description, were taken through the east gate, Bridgend, at 1 a. m. on the 21st instant, on the road to Cardiff, by a short stout man, with a mous- tache, and they have been traced to Bristal. JOHN SUTTON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 5th instant, charged with larceny at Middlesbrough, has been apprehended at Dewsbury. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 7. Absconded on the 4th instant from 267, Regent- street, St. Marylebone, stealing £ 9 2s. : a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, complexion and hair dark, whiskers black ;[ dressed in black clothes ; a hair dresser. It is supposed he will go to France.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, July 7. Description of THOMAS LEE, charged at Coventry with stealing £ 3 5s. from his lodgings on the 3rd instant: he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark eyes and hair, medium build, very much sun burnt, brown mark on left cheek near lower jaw, and is rather flat- footed ; dressed in a blue cloth cap with gilt buttons and straight peak, black jacket, light mixture trousers, vielet and black shirt, and of respectable appearance. He obtained lodgings by falsely representing himself to be a clerk in the employ of the London and North Western Railway Company, aud about to be stationed at Coventry. Information to be given to Head Constable Noriis, Coventry, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 7. Absconded on the 27th ultimo, charged with embezzling, £ 40: ALICK CHALLIS, late newsagent at Teddington Railway Station, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, slight moustache ; dressed in dark tweed jacket and vest, grey trousers, and hard felt hat. Warrant issued.:— Metropolitan Police, T Division, July 5. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Rishton, on the 26th ult.: a French merino Dress, trimmed in front with black lace ; a girl's French merino Frock ; two white cotton Skirts, or. e with seven and the other with four tucks; a child's French merino Frock, trimmed with black hraid ; a white corded Vest, and a pair of boy's elastic- Bide Boots. isPBy convict license- holder SAMUEL WILKINSON, No. W 753, who has left Rishton without, giving notice to the Police: 29 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, pearl on right eye, scrofula on front and s'. des of neck, scars on right arm, on right shoulder blade, and on bend of knee, 1 W. B.' on wrist, and haB lost nearly all his upper teeth; dressed in a white linen jacket, - white cord trousers, blue tweed vest, black billycock hat, and lace- up clogs. lie was convicted at Man- chester Sessions on the 6th July, 1870, of larceny from per- son, and sentenced to seven years penal servitude and seven years police supervision. Stolen in South Shields on the 1st instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 6599, a hair Guard Key, and small Barrel ( stone in one end) attached; and oae gold signet Ring. By WM. SMITH, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion blue eyes, light brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in a blue reefing jacket, brown striped trousers and vest, blue cloth cap with peak, mauve shirt with black stripe, and mauve tie with white stripe ; he speaks with a Scotch accent. In- formation to be given to Head Constable Richardson, Boro' Police Office, South Shields, Duiham.—' Bane- street, July 5. Stolen from a dwelling- house in St. Alban's, on the 30th ultimo : a rosewood Workhox, containing [ a. pawn- ticket for a Coat, pledged at Ashworth's, St. Alban's ; two Prudential Life Policies, & c. By a man who had been lodging at the house, aud stated he was employed to superintend the telegraph at the Midland Railway Station, St. Alban's, which is false ; 35 yrs. of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and moustache, and no whiskers; dressed in a grey coat, dark grey plaid trousers, hard black felt hat, and carries a. black leather bag. Infor- mation to be given to the Head Constable, St. Alban's, Herts. — Bow- street, July 3. Stolen from Dartford, on the 29th ultimo : a common leather Purse, containing £ 1 10*. in Gold, and a gilt Albert Chain, snake pattern. By a man, about 20 years of age, 6 feet 5 cr 6 iaches high, dark complexion, large eyes, black t'rizzey hair, parted in the centre ; wore a midshipman's cap, with crown, & c., plaid trousers, and dark coat and vest; he stated that he was in the service of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, which is supposed to be false, and said he was going to Woolwich. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, July 3. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, from 20, Coventy- street, St. James's, stealing a £' 10 Bank of England Note : a man 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and fair complexion and hair ; dressed in brown tweed suit and low felt hat, and is a porter.— Metropolitan Police, C Divi- sion, July 3. Absconded on the 29th ultimo, from 111, Gloucester- road, Kensington, stealing £ 10 : a youth, 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, and dark hair; dressed in black coat, grey trousers, straw hat, and is a porter, — Metropolitan Police, T Division, July 3. Stolen on the 13th ultimo from the house of Ann Shiers, Monk- street, Derby : £ 35 in Gold, a lady's Fall, a pair of Gloves, and a piece of Lace.
