Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably nwsssary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, * » the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all ILetters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. MURDEE AIB MA^ ICIOUSI/ ST WOUIDII ® , About 8 a. m., on the 16th instant, the dead Body of a newly- born Female Child was found in a meadow in the parish of Thorlfey, near the town of Bishop's Stortford, ad- joining the turnpike- road. The body was wrapped up in a Bishop's Stoitford newspaper, dated the 10th June. At the • Coroner's Inquest, on the 17th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder, against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent " Ryder, Police Station, Bishop's Stortford, Herts.— Bow- street, June 23. Description of GEORGE SMITH, charged with the manslaughter of Thomas Hilton, at Walton- ou- Thames, on the 14th instant : he is a travelling chair bottomer and basket maker, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers, and sallow complexion ; dressed in a pepper and salt jacket, dirty moleskin trousers, j black soft felt hat. Supposed to belong to Oxfordshire, and to have a brother residing at Reading. Ia likely to be found in the company of pea pickers. Information to be given to Superintendent Buugard, Surrey Constabulary, Cheitsey.— jBote- street, June 23. about 22 years of " age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, proportion- ately maae, very sallow complexion, black hair, a little black moustache, DO whiskers, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in dark clothes and round felt hat; he is a clerk ; his father lives in Lower Park- street, Islington, London. Infor- mation to be given to Chief [ Constable White, Brighton.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen on the night of the 24th instant by breaking out from the warehouse of Mr. Slade, boot manufacturer, Worcester : two dozen German Calf Kids; fourteen Skins English ditto ; twelve Skins bold Seal; eight- and- a- half fiue grain ditto ; twelve Skins waxed Calf ; twelve Skina Levant Goats ; six Skins ditto, best quality. The whole partly cut ; four Skins Patent Calf, not cut ; twelve pairs Kid Franks for block fronts, and 150 yards Silk Elastic. A reward of £ o will be paid by Mr. Slade for such infoimation a3 shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the 21st instant, at Brenchley, Kent : a small Jewel Box, containing a set of diamond Studs; a set of gold ditto; a signet Ring, with monogram ; a gold Ring, bloodstone; a twist Ring, 100 years old, with name of ' E B. Russell;' one double- headed snake Ring; a horseshoe Pin ; a Guinea, and three Seals ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links, blue enamel; a set or. gilt Buttons; a gold Pin set with carbuncle stone ; a saloon Pistol; a Stick ivory handle silver plate, ' E. B. R.' on plate; also a set of gold Ftuds ; a brown silk Umbrella ; a Stick silver, mounted; and a Box of Studs. Also stolen the same day by means of housebreaking at Ash, West Kent : a boy's new black and white - striped cloth Jacket ; a Wedding Ring ; an old- fashioned silver Watch, with steel Chain attached ; and £ 9 10s. Supposed by a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair and complexion, small light moustache, slightly made, and round shoulded ; dressed in dark speckled suit, round hat or cap, and had the appearence of a waiter. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, June 2.6. Between 10 p m. on the 22nd and [ 6 a. m. on the 23rd instant,' the cottage of Richard Smith, stonemason, Abbey- lane, Belgrave, Leicestershire, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a chased electro- plated Teapot, Sugar Basin, and Cream Jug, all oval shaped, with ' P. W, from W. B.' engraved on fhe ouside of each ; a half- pint marmalade Glass Jar, with electro- plated lid and case, worked in bars ; a mar malade Spoon, in. the shape of a shovel ; live silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S.'; two common Wine Glasses ; and two small white calico Night Dresses, to fit a little child. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Moore, Belgrave, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, June 26. During the hours of 10 30 p. m. on the 24th, and 8 a. m. on the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William King, farmer, of High Ongar, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair cf silver Candlesticks; a plated Candlestick ; a toast Rack; a pair of plated Snuffers and Tray; a large silver square Cruet Stand, with seven glasses, three of them with silver tops ; a pair of plated Decanter Stands ; a silver cream Jug, with initials * M. W. K.'; a butter Knife, with bone handle; two table Covers, one o£ them woollen and very thick ; and a plated Teapot. Supposed by a man, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, little hair on face ; dressed iu dark mixture coat, rather light- colour trousers, black soft felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, Police Station, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bmv- street, Jane 23. KOBSE AID CJATTI^ QTEAXX& G: Stolen from Tynycaean Farm, Peterston- super- Ely, near Cardiff, on the night ot the 25th instant: two strong cob Mares, one lighu bay colour, about 15£ hands high, black mane and tail, white oblong star on forehead, stout body, light legs, puffed in the hocks, and aged ; the other about 15 hands high, 6 years old, dark bay colour, black mane and tail, large white star on forehead, more square than the other, and two white hind fetlocks, and dent m the navel. Both are in good condition. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Sadler, Constabulary Office, Bridgend, Glamorgan- shire.— Bow- street, June 30. Further information respecting the light brown horse Pony, advertised in the Polica Gazette of the 16th instant: it is Russian bred, 6 years old, 12| hands high, thick neck and mane, white star ou forehead, and cow | j hock. £ 10 reward will be paid by the Edlesborough Association, and £ o by Henry Rogers, the owner, on recovery of the pony, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Sergeant Bowden, Ivinghoe, or to Inspector Sap well, Police S tation, Linslade, Bucks.— Bow- st., June 30. Stolen during the night of the 27th instant, from a stable in the New Cross- road : a dark bay Pony, 13 hands high, short tail, near ear clipped ; and a bay Gelding, 15 hands high, near hind foot and star on forehead white, both aged, and wore leather head stalls. Supposed by two men, one 22 years of age, 6 feet high, fair complexion, hair, pnd mous- tache ; dressed as a horse coper, and is an associate- of gipsies; the other is a gipsy, 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, very dark complexion, black hair and moustache, and no whiskerr. Horses taken in the direction of Kent.— Metro- politan Police, P Division, June 30. Stolen between 8 p. m. on 2Gth and 6 a. m. on 27th inst., from a field on the London- road, at Harston : a 3- year old Nag Colt, dark brown, about 14 or 14| hands high, longmane and tail, well bred, clean legs, and a little thick in the head, had no shoes on, and has never been ridden ; the property of Mr. F. W. Rowley. Supposed by two men, one about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, very dirk complexion ; dressed in dark clothes and black billycock hat, and wears a white wrapper to hide a cancer m the nose ; believed to be EDWARD THOMAS, alias ROULAND, advertised in Police Gazettes of 12th and 23rd instant, charged with horse stealing near Petworth and Luton. The other one is about 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, thick neck, very dark complexion and moustache, no whiskers, and hair cut short; dressed in hard felt hat, checked necktie, and dark clothes. £ 5 reward will be paid upon the appre- hension and conviction of tlio offender or offenders, and recovery of the Horse. Stolen on the night of the 18th instant, from the person of William Hunter, at Ingham : a double- case silver lever Watch, enamelled dial, with seconds hand, capped and a Hair Guard attached ; also £ 2 5s. 9d. By JOHN ALLEN, a native of Willoughton, near Kirton Liudsey : he is 24 yrs. of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, black hair, scar on back of right hand, and over right eye; dressed in a grey suit of clothes, black billy hat, and militia boots. He was discharged from the Royal North Lincoln Militia on the 9th instant; was traced to Market Rasen, where he took train for Hull on the night of the 19th instant., slept at a house in Hull on the following night, and left there next morning at 8 a. m. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Wright County Police Station, Lincoln, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.-— Bow- street, June 28. Stole!} from the person at St. Thomas, Devon, on the 12th instant : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 76599, also a gilt snake- pattern albert Chain with two Keys and two sixpenny Pieces attached. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Hodges, Devon, Exeter.— Bow- street, June 23. Stolen from the person at the Beverley Race Course, on the 16th instant : a gentleman's silver lever Watch, No. 60954 ; a gold lever Watcb, No. 5391, maker Thomas Fowler, London ; and a silver horizontal Watch, silver dial, gold or gilt numerals, gold Albert Guard, with Seal at end ( filled with black ceiling wax) attached. Information to be given to Head Constable Knight, Borough Police Office, Beverley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 23. BUE6IAEY AMD HOUSE BREAKING-. Between 1 and 5 p. m. on the 26th instant, the dwelling_ house of William Milham, was broken into, at West Grin stead, Sussex, and stolen therein : an old silver hunting Watch, No. 8609, maker Gochshere, Tottenham ; a small Chain attached, tied with a piece of blue ribbon. Supposed by a man, rather respectably dressed, walks very erect, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, thin face, dark hair, no whiskers, small moustache, slight figure ; dressed in a brown coat, spotted vest, dark trousers, and light alpine hat. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bcrw- sweet, June 30. Stolen from Parka Farm, near Bridgend, on the night of the 20th instant, the property of Mr. David Edwards : a dark bay Horse, 6 years old, near hind foot white, small white star on foreheai!, and rather low in the back; and a grey Mare, aged, Lear hind anl ftre feet white, and has been blistered on the heck. Two Horses, answiiicg the above desciiplion, were taken through the east gate, Bridgend, at 1 a. m. on the 21st instant, on the road to Cardiff, by a short stout man, with a mous- tache, and they have been traced to Bristal. Stolen from the road side, on the 9th instant : a dark bfown Exmore mare Pony, 6 years old, 13 hands high ; and a dark brown nag Horse, 8 years old, 15| hands high, switch tail, star on forehead, cut on the off side of rump, and the 1 lady's gold Ring, with one small diamond and a circle off hind fetlock white. Description of GEORGE QUANTRILL, charged with larceny : he is 14 years of age, fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, and high cheek bones ; dressed in long butcher's slop aud occasionally wears a tweed frock coat over it, corduroy trousers, lace- up boots, and mixed cloth chummy hat. Will be likely to attend fairs and sales for the purpose of obtaining employment as a drover. Information to be given to Inspector Sewter, Reepham, Norfolk, who holds a • warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 30. Description of WALTER WHEELER, a lodging- house keeper, who is charged on a warrant with uttering to Walter James Hall, a forged Bill of Exchange, at Bournemouth on the 8th instant: 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, tight brown hair, blue eyes, no whiskers or moustache : usually dressed in tight fitting dark eoat, dark trousers and vest,, and round hard felt hat. He is very fond of horses, and sometimes deals in corn, hay, and straw. In- mation to be given to Superintendent White, Hants Con- stabulary, Ringwood.— Bow- street, June 28. Description of FREDERICK LOCKE, - who absconded on the 8th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of money, the property of his master, Charles John Spary, posting master, Ventnor : he is 29 years of age, 5 feet 9- J inches high, black hair, small black whiskers and moustache, sallow complexion, small eyes, twitching greatly, walks very upright, throwing right shoulder forward, and walks on his heels; dressed in dark frock coat, light ulster overcoat, white waistcoat, light troussrs, and light helmet hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Horan, County Police Station, Newport, or to Sergeant Ransom, Ventnor, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, June 28. Description of EDWARD HALE, who absconded from Devizes, on the 21st instant, charged with stealing a Bottle of Brandy, and a Bottle of Champagne; the property of Mr. James Bertram, Bear Hotel, Devizes, on the 13th inst.: he is 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, florid complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, round features, low forehead, no whis- kers or moustache ; dressed in plaid suit, trousers fitting tight, and hard bowler hat; he has the appearance of a groom, has lived as boots at an hotel, will most likely be found in some training stables, was last seen at Walker's training stables, Lambourne, Berks, and went in the direction of Ilsley. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood- man, Wilts Constabulary, Devizes, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 28. Absconded from Worcester, charged with stealing two Umbrellas and a Cane ( recovered) : a travelling umbrella dealer, about 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, tuft on chin, and lost right arm ; dressed in dark clothes and billycock hat. He is accompanied by another man in the same line of business. Information to be given to the City Police, Worcester.— Bow- street, June 28. Charged with embezzling about £ 100, the monies of the Hanley Corporation : ALFRED RYLANDS, rate collector, about 38 years of age,[ 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, long dark whiskers, beard, and moustache, pro- portionate build, stoops a little ; dressed in dark mixture suit, soft tommy hat, and new boots. It is supposed he is in company with MORETON B. DEWSBURY, wLo is charged here for stealing a Deed : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, whiskers, and large drooping moustache, generally wears spectacles ; dressed in pilot jacket, and tommy bat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Windle, Elanley, Staffordshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, June 28. Description of FRANCIS PREECE, a labourer, native of Worthin, Salop, who is charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 6, at Berriew, on the 19th instant: he is 28 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dsrk brown hair and eyes, small whiskers, Ecar on right eyebrow, and • wrist of right hand ; dressed in dirty cotton cord trousers, old black leather leggings, old brown waistcoat, black cloth cap, and no coat, and carries a whip ; he is supposed to have gone in the direction of Rhayader or Builth, and will probably seek employment at timber hauling. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Newtown, or to P. C. Poole, Berriew, Montgomeryshire.— Boss- street, June 28. Absconded from Ebbwvale on the evening of the 24th instant, charged with stealing a large quantity of old Brass Bearings ( recovered), the property of the Ebbwvale Steel, Iron, and Coal Company Limited : THOMAS MITCHELL, a roller in ironworks, and native of Ebbwvale, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionate make, fair com- plexion, round face, high cheek bones, brown hair and • whiskers, small moustache, and scar on cheek under the eye; supposed dressed in a light grey coat, pocketn on hips, dark trousers, and bowler hat. He has a relative at Darlington, and is supposed to be well known at West Hartlepool, Dar- lington, and Middlesbrough, having worked at those places as a rougher or roller ; and MORGAN MORGAN, alias MACKEN MORGAN, a rougher or roller, a native of Ebbwvale, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers, no moustache, speaks with the Welsh accent, and is addicted to drink ; dressed in dark clothes and bowler hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, or to Superintendent H. Fowler, Tredegar Iron Works, who • who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Neithrop : a dark tweed Jacket, with pink or pink striped sleeve linings, two hip pockets and cne inside left breast; a dark twilled Vest; and a pair of black cloth Trousers, bound with green round the top. By a tramping shoemaker, who lodged in the house on the night of the 20th, and left at 8 a. m. on the 21st instant; he is about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, between 30 and 40 years of age, dark hair and whiskers, lame of one leg, uses a crutch under the right arm, and a stick ; dressed in the stolen clothes, and left his old coat and vest behind. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, County Police Station, Banbury, Oxfordshire.— Bow- street, June 26. Stolen at Rottingdean : a silver English lever Watch, Hair Guard, and imitation gold Locket attached, and con- taining the Portrait of a lady and gentleman. By a man • who lodged in the house one night and absconded Jon the 21st instant; he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, and no whiskers dressed in dark mixture suit, laee- up boots, and felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Baldwin, Preston, near Brighton, or at any Police Station in East Sussex, — Bow- street, June 26. Absconded from Ipswich, on the 10th instant, charged with stealing a quantity of carpenter's Tools, since recovered MAYHEW SCOTT, alias WALTER SCOTT, a carpenter and joiner, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, very sharp full blue eyes, dark brown hair, brown bushy whiskers, large moutb, thin lips, and teeth wide a'part, has a brown mark about the size of a shilling on his back ; he was born at Ardleigh, Essex, and has some relatives living in Colchester ; has served about 10 years in the Royal Engineers ; dressed in drab cord trousers, black cloth coat, grey waistcoat, buttoning up to the chin, blue Oxford shirt, cloth cap, and old elastic- side boots.
