INFORMATIONS OTEDEE AMD MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, About 8 a. m., on the 16th instant, the dead Body of a newly- born Female Child was found in a meadow in the parish of Thorley, near the town of Bishop's Stortford, ad- joining the turnpike- road. The body was wrapped up in a Bishop's Stoitford newspaper, dated the 10th June. At the Coroner's Inquest, on the 17th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder, against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder, Police Station, Bishop's Stortford, Herts.— Bow- street, Jane 23. Description of GEORGE SMITH, charged with the manslaughter of Thomas Hilton, at Walton- on- Thames, on the 14th instant : he is a travelling chair bottomer and basket maker, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair and whiskers, and sallow complexion ; dressed in a pepper and salt jacket, dirty moleskin trousers, black soft felt hat. Supposed to belong to Oxfordshire, and to have a brother residing at Reading. Is likely to be found in the company of pea pickers. Information to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bovs- street, June 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the 21st instant, at Brenchley, Kent: a small Jewel Box, containing a set of diamond Studs; a set of gold ditto; a signet Ring, with monogram; a gold Ring, bloodstone; a twist Ring, 100 years old, with name of ' E, B. Russell;' one double- headed snake Ring; a horseshoe Pin ; a Guinea, and three Seals ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links, blue enamel; a set o? gilt Buttons; a gold Pin set with carbuncle stone ; a saloon Pistol; a Stick ivory handle silver plate, '. E. B. R.' on plate; also a set of gold Studs ; a brown silk Umbrella; a Stick silvei'| inounted; and a Box of Studs. Also stolen the same day by means of housebreaking at Ash, West Kent: a boy's new black and white striped cloth Jacket ; a Wedding Ring; an old- fashioned silver Watch, with steel Chain attached; and £ 9 10s. Supposed by a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair and complexion, small light moustache, slightly made, and round shoulded; dressed in dark speckled suit, round hat or cap, and had the appearence of a waiter. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, June 26. Between 10 p. m. on the 22nd and [ 6 a. m. on the 23rd instant, j the cottage of Richard Smith, stonemason, Abbey- lane, Belgrave, Leicestershire, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a chased electro- plated Teapot, Sugar Basin, and Cream Jug, all oval shaped, with ' P. W., from W. B.' engraved on fhe ouside of each ; a half- pint marmalade Glass Jar, with electro- plated lid and case, worked in bars ; a mar- malade Spoon, in the shape of a shovel; five silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S.'; two common Wine Glasses ; and two small white calico Night Dresses, to fit a little child. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Moore, Belgrave, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, June 26. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the night of the 18th instant, from the person of William Hunter, at Ingham: a double- case silver lever Watch, enamelled dial, with seconds hand, capped and jewelled, No. 10467,' Wm. Woolsey' engraved on plate, and a Hair Guard attached ; also £ 2 5s. 9d. By JOHN ALLEN, a native of Willoughton, near Kirton Lindsey : he is 24 yrs. of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, black hair, scar on back of right hand, and over right eye; dressed iu a grey suit of clothes, black billy hat, and militia boots. He was discharged from the Royal North Lincoln Militia ou the 9th instant; was traced to Market Rasen, where he took train for Hull on the night of the 19th instant, slept at a house in Hull on the [ following night, and left there next morning at 8 a. m. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Wright . County Police Station, Lincoln, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, June 28. Stolen from the person at St. Thomas, Devon, on the 12th instant : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 76599, also a gilt snake- pattern albert Chain with two Keys and two sixpenny Pieces attached. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Hodges, Devon, Exeter.— Bow- street, June 23. Stolen from the person at the Beverley Race Course, on the 16th instant: a gentleman's silver lever Watch, No. 60954 ; a gold lever Watch, No. 5391, maker Thomas Fowler, London ; and a silver horizontal Watch, silver dial, gold or gilt numerals, gold Albert Guard, with Seal at end ( filled with black ceiling wax) attached. Description of PHILLIP OSCAR AMERY, charged on warrant with breaking into an office and stealing about £ 30 in Gold and Silver, the moneys of his master : he is about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, proportion ately made, very sallow complexion, black hair, a little black moustache, no whiskers, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in dark clothes and round felt hat; he is a clerk ; his father lives in Lower Park street, Islington, London. Stolen on the night of the 24th instant by breaking out from the warehouse of Mr. Slade, boot manufacturer, Worcester : two dozen German Calf Kids; fourteen Skins English ditto ; twelve Skins bold Seal; eight- and- a- half fine During the hours of 10 30 p. m. on the 24th, and 8 a. m. on the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William King, farmer, of High Ongar, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of silver Candlesticks; a plated Candlestick ; a toast Rack; a pair of plated Snuffers and Tray ; a large silver square Cruet Stand, with seven glasses, three of them with silver tops ; a pair of plated Decanter Stands; a silver cream Jug, with initials ' M. W. K.'; a butter Knife, with bone handle; two table Covers, one of them woollen and very thick ; and a plated Teapot. Between 7.15 p. m. on the 18th, and 9 a. m. on the 19th instant, the shop of Mr. William Haworth, jeweller, 13, New- Market street, Blackburn, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 4 silver Boston lever Watches, No. 72391, 72392, 71904, and 71906. 2 silver lever Watches, Nos. 10136 and 10139, 18 size, polished cases. 1 ditto, No. 10135, 18 size, flat glass. 1 ditto, small size, the name of ' Agnes Holden' engraved on inner case. 1 small gold Geneva Watch, No. 950. 42 silver lever and Geneva Watches. 25 silver Watch Guards. 10 gold Albert Guards ( 9 carat). 50 gold keeper Rings, ( 9- carat). 30 gentleman's gold Sigcet Rings ( 15 carat). 15 pairs of gold Ear- rings. 3 diamond Shirt Studs. 6 ladies' gold Watch Chains ( 9 carat). 1 gentleman's gold hoop Ring, with a diamond and two emeralds, one of the emeralds was detached. 1 gentleman's gold diamond Ring, the diamond detached. 1 lady's gold Ring, with five diamonds, one detached. 1 lady's fine diamond Ring. 1 lady's cluster diamond Ring, one stone detached. 1 lady's small diamond Ring. I lady's gold Ring, with one stone and a blank. 1 lady's gold Ring, with one small diamond and a circle of blue or green stones. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Police Office, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire. — Bow- street, June 26. HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING.: Stolen between 8 p. m. on 26th and 6 a. m. on 27th inst., from a field on the London- road, at Harston : a 3- year old Nag Colt, dark brown, about 14 or 14$ hands high, long mane and tail, well bred, clean legs, and a little thick in the head, had no shoes on, and has never been ridden ; the property of Mr. F. W. Rowley. Supposed by two men, one about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, very dark complexion ; dresstd in dark clothes and black billycock hat, and wears a white wrapper to hicta a cancer in the nose ; believed to be EDWARD THOMAS, alias ROULAND, advertised in Police Gazettes of 12th and 23rd instant, charged with horse stealing near Petwerth and Luton. The other one is about 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, thick neck, very dark complexion and moustache, no whiskers, and hair cut short; dressed in hard felt hat, checked necktie, and dark clothes. £ 5 reward will be paid upon the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Horse. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Stretten, Chesterton- road, Cambridge. — Bow- street, June 28. Charged on a warrant, as a bailee, with stealing, on the 13th instant, a horse Pony, recovered : DAVID ADAMS, 21 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, pockpitted, and of slender build; he be- longs to Easingwold, and gathers rags, & c. Information to be given to Inspector Ellerby„ North Riding Constabulary, Easingwold, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 26. Found at Brentwood on the night of the 11th instant, and { supposed to have been stolen : a gray she Ass, 7 or 8 years old, in good condition, and without shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Dobson, Police Station, Brentwood, Esse*.— Bow- street, June 26. Stolen from Parka Farm, near Bridgend, on the night of the 20th infant,' the property of Mr. David Edwards : a dark bay Horse, 6 years old, near hind foot white, small white star on forehead, and rather low in the back; and a grey Mare, aged, near hind and fere feet white, and has been blistered on the neck. Two Horses, answering the above description, were taken through the east gate, Bridgend, at 1 a. m. on the 21st instant, on the road to Cardiff, by a short stout man, with $ mous- tache, and they have been traced to Bristal. Information to be given to Superintendent Sadler, Constabu- lary Office. Bridgend, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, June 26. Stolen from the road side, on the 9th instant : a dark- brown Exmore mare Pony, 6 years old, 13 hands high ; and a dark brown nag Horse, 8 years old, 154 hands high, switch tail, star on forehead, cut on the off side of rump, and the off hind fetlock white. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Marson, Huntingdon.— Bow- street, June 23. Stolen from a field near Luton, during the night of tho 15th instant, a bay nag, Mare, 4 years old, 14 or 15 hands high, b'ack points, except a little white round the hind feet, white star on forehead, tail cut rather short, is slightly lame, in good condition, and has been broken. The mare was traced to Woodgreen, near London, on the 16th instant, in the pos- session of EDWARD THOMAS, alias ROWLAND, who is charged with stealing a Horse near Petwortb, Sussex, as advertized in tbe Police Gazette of the I2th instant. A reward of £ 5 will be paid for such information as shall lead to ( he recovery of the Mare and conviction of { the offender. Infirmition to be given to Superintendent Tydeman, Police Station, Luton, Beds.— Bow- street, June 23. Between 1 and 5 a. m. on the 19tli instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Trusler was broken into at North Sussex, and stolen therefrom : a small Geneva Watch, ' Examined by W. Games, Kensington,' on the inside: an old fashioned verge Watch ; a gold scarf Pin, with an imitation diamond in centre, and small stones round; a six- chambered Revolver, a large meerschaum Pipe, a Half sovereign, and some small Coins. Supposed by a man, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, little hair on face ; dressed in dark mixture coat, rather light- colour trousers, black soft felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, Police Station, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, June 23. LARCENY AMD Description of WALTER WHEELER, a lodging- house keeper, who is charged on a warrant with uttering to Walter James Hall, a forged Bill of Exchange, at Bournemouth on the 8th instant: 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, no whiskers or moustache : usually dressed in tight fitting dark coat, dark trousers and vest, and round hard felt hat. He is very fond of horses, and sometimes deals in corn, hay, and straw. In- mation to be given to Superintendent White, Hants Con- stabulary, Ringwood.— Bow- street, June 28. Description of FREDERICK LOCKE, who absconded on the 8th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of money, the property of his master, Charles John Spary, posting master, Ventnor : he is 29 years of age, 5 feet 9$ inches high, black hair, small black whiskers and moustache, sallow complexion, small eyes, twitching greatly, walks very upright, throwing right shoulder forward, and walks on his heels ; dressed in dark frock coat, light ulater overcoat, white waistcoat, light trousers, and light helmet hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Horan, County Police Station, Newport, or to Sergeant Ransom, Ventnor, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, June 28. Description of EDWARD HALE, who absconded from Devizes, on the 21st instant, charged with stealing a Bottle of Brandy, and .. a Bottle of Champagne; the property of Mr. James Bertram, Bear Hotel, Devizes, on the 13th iust. : he is 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, florid complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, round features, low forehead, no whis- kers or moustache ; dressed in plaid suit, trousers fitting tight, and hard bowler hat; he has the appearance of a groom, has lived as boots at an hotel, will most likely be fouud iu some training stables, was last seen at Walker's training > \ H • stables, Lambourne, Berks, and went in the direction of Ilsley. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood- man, Wilts Constabulary, Devizes, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 28. Absconded from Worcester, charged with stealing two Umbrellas and a Cane ( recovered) : a travelling umbrella dealer, about 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, tuft on chin, and lost right aim ; dressed in dark clothes and billycock hat. He is accompanied by another man iu the same line of business. Information to be given to the City Police, Worcester. - Bow- street, June 28. Charged with embezzling about £ 100, the monies of the Hanley Corporation : ALFRED RYLANDS, rate collector, about 38 years of age,[ 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexiou, dark hair, long dark whiskers, baarcJ, and moustache, pro- portionate build, stoops a little ; dressed in dark mixture suit, soft tommy hat, and new boots. It is supposed he is in company with MORETON B. DEWSBURY, who ischarged here for stealing a Deed : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, whiskers, and large drooping moustache, generally wears spectacles ; dressed in pilot jacket, and tommy hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Windle, Hanley, Staffordshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bew- street, June 28. Description of FRANCIS PREECE, a labourer, native of Worthin, Salop, who is charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 6, at Berriew, on the 19th instant: he is 2S yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, d? rk brown hair and eyes, small whiskers, scar on right eyebrow, and wrist of right hand ; dressed in dirty cotton cord trousers, old black leather leggings, old brown waistcoat, black cloth cap, and no coat, and carries a whip ; he is supposed to have gone in the direction of Rhayader or Builth, and will probably seek employment at timber hauling. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Newtown, or to P. C. Poole, Berriew, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, Absconded from EbBwvale on the evening of the 24th instant, charged with stealing a large quantity of old Brass Bearings ( recovered), the property of the Ebbwvale Steel, Iron, and Coal Company Limited: THOMAS MITCHELL, a roller in ironworks, and native of Ebbwvale, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionate make, fair com- plexion, round face, high cheek bones, brown hair and whiskers, small moustache, and scar on cheek under the eye; supposed dressed in a light grey coat, pockets on hips, dark trousers, and bowler hat. He has a relative at Darlington, and is supposed to be well known at West Hartlepool, Dar- lington, and Middlesbrough, having worked at those places as a rougher or roller ; and MORGAN MORGAN, alias MACKEN MORGAN, a rougher or roller, a native of Ebbwvale, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers, no moustache, speaks with tbe Welsh accent, and is addicted to drink ; dressed in dark clothes and bowler hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, or to Superintendent H. Fowler, Tredegar Iron Works, who who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Neithrop : a dark tweed Jacket, with pink or pink striped sleeve linings, two hip pockets and ane inside left breast; a dark twilled Vest; and a pair of blaclf cloth Trousers, bound with green round the top. By a tramping shoemaker, who lodged in the house on the night of tile ' 20th, and left at 8 a. m. on the 21st instant; he is about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, between 30 and 40 years of age, dark hair and whiskers, lame of one leg, uses a crutch under the right arm, and a stick; dressed in the stolen clothes, and left his old coat and vest behind. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, County Police Station, Banbury, Oxfordshire.— Bow- street, June 26. Stolen at Rottingdean : a silver English lever Watcb, Hair Guard, and imitation gold Locket attached, and con- taining the Portrait of a lady and gentleman. By a man who lodged iu the house one night and absconded on the 21st instant; he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, and no whiskers; dressed in dark mixture suit, lace- up boots, and felt hat, Information to be given to Superintendent Baldwin, Preston, near Brighton, or at any Police Station in East SUSSJX. — Bow- street, June 26. Absconded from Ipswich, on the 10th instant, charged with stealing a quantity of carpenter's Tools, since recovered: MAYHEW SCOTT, alias WALTER SCOTT, a carpenter and joiuer, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, very sharp full blue eyes, dark brown hair, brown bushy whiskers, large mouth, thin lips, and teeth wide apart, has a brown mark about the size of a shilling on his back ; he was born at Ardleigh, Essex, and has some relatives living in Colchester ; has served about 10 years in tbe Royal Engineers ; dressed in drab cord trousers, black cloth coat, grey waistcoat, buttoning up to the chin, blue Oxford shirt, cloth cap, and old elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, June 26. 7 Stolen on the 21st instant from the workshop of Mr. William Batt, tailor and outfitter, Bridge- street, New Swindon : a single- breasted spotted grey mixture cloth Waistcoat, about a yard and a half of dark mixture Cloth, and a pair of men's elastic- side boots with buttons up the fronts. By a tramping tailor who worked in the shop for a few days : from 45 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very thin features, dark complexion, dark hair ( very thin on top of head, thin lips ; dressed in a black cloth coat, velvet collar, black cloth vest, light cloth trousers, hard felt hat, and supposed wearing the stolen boots, having left his own in the shop. Has served in the army in India, and has a scar from a bullet in right side of forehead. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- stre* t, June 26. Description of ARTHUR ROBBINS, a butcher, charged with embezzling the Moneys of his master Wiliiam Briant Baverstock, at Shalbourn : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, fresh complexion, full round face, light brown hair, stout build, short neck, bow- legged, and is left handed. He absconded from Shalbourn in February last, and is likely to be found working as a journeyman butcher. Information to be given to Inspector Drewett, Hungerford, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 23. Description of WILLIAM COX, alias SPIDER, charged with stealing a Hand Barrow ( recovered), at East- bourne, on the 27th January last : he is about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, thin face, rather large nose and high forehead, dark brown eyes, very dark hair, cut short and parted in centre, small dark , whiskers at sides of face, a scar on neck, slight build, and stoops ; he follows races, and is usually employed as a stable- man at racing stables. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Newnham, Eastbourne, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 23. Description of EDWARD JOHN WELLS, who absconded on the 29th ultimo from Stourbridge, charged with stealing a quantity of Bibles, the property of his employer : he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 iuches high, pale face, dark hair and eyes, rather slight built, respectable appearance aud manner, a book hawker. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 23, Stolen at Middlesborough on the 19th instant; a dark grey mixture cloth shooting Coat, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, trimmed with dark bone buttons, nearly new. By a man, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair, and whiskers round his chin, dark complexion ; dressed in a dark cloth coat, dark brown striped trousers, round hard felt hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 23. The tramping printer described in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant, as suspected of stealing Boots at Spilsby, has been committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions, to be holden at Spilsby On the 4th proximo ; his name i3 WIL- LIAM LEAK, a native of York. In June 1875 he was convicted at Barnsley, and in December, 1875, at Bradford, of felony. In his possession was found a plated Caddy Spoon, with pearl handle, supposed stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Richdale, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, Jun* 23. He is known at Walsall, West Bromich, Dudley, Bromsgrove, Oldbury, and Chesterfield, and at Derby and Worcester Gaols. Description of EDWARD SMITH, alias SEAGEN, 38 years of age, 5 feet 6f inches high, slight make, dark com- plexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, ' E. S.', a heart, wreath, and two flags on right arm, ship on left arm, rings on second and third fingers of left hand, a lump on left side of head, bayonet wound on back of mouth, and scar on forehead and chest; he is an engine driver and labourer, and a native of Cranbrook, Kent. He was discharged from Maidstone Gaol on the 3rd June, 1876, under three years police supervision, and has failed to report himself at Sitting- bourne Police Station ; was convicted of larceny at Maid- stone in March Sessions, 1875, and sentenced to fifteen months imprisonment. Description of JAMES ASHCROFT, a convict license holder, who left Wordsley, Staffordshire, on the 8th instant, without giving notice to the police : 31 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and has the mark of a cut on left side of forehead. He was sentenced to 7 years penal servitude at Stafford Quarter Sessions, on the 17th October, 1870, and on his release from prison went to Wolverhampton, the place ef his committal. Since he absconded a letter has been received from him by a person at Wordsley, which bears the Gloucester post mark, but it purports to have been written from Liverpool.
