Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, i the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the FOLICE GAZETTE, betters addressed to the Editor GUUgt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. INFORMATIONS MUXDEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 8 a m., on the 16th instant, the dead Body of a newly- born Female Child was found in a meadow in the pariah of Thorley, near the town of Bishop's Stortford, ad- joining the turnpike- road. The body was wrapped up in a Bishop's Stortford newspaper, dated the 10th Juue. At the Coroner's Inquest, on the 17th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder, against some person or peraona unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder, Police Statib'h,' Bishop's Stortford, Herts.— Bow- street, June 23. Description of GEORGE SMITH, charged with tbe manslaughter of Thomas Hilton, at Walton- on- Thames, on the 14th instant: he is a travelling chair bottomer and Basket maker, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, light brown hair and whiskers, and sallow complexion ; dressed in a pepper and salt jacket, dirty moleskin trousers, black soft felt hat. Supposed to belong to Oxfordshire, and to have a brother residing at Reading. Is likely to be found in the company of pea pickers. Information to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, June 23. The dead body of a female infant, was found in a field at Thornbury, near Bradford, on the 8th instant : it was wrapped in an old dirty cotton chemise, mended in several places, and very much stained ; the mother is supposed to be a tramp. At the eoroners inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, June 19. Between 10 p. m. on the 22nd and 6 a. m. on the 23rd instant,' the cottage of Richard Smith, stonemason, Abbey- lane, Belgrave, Leicestershire, was broken aud entered and stolen therein : a chased electro- plated Teapot, Sugar Basin, and Cream Jug, all oval shaped, with ' P. W, from W. B.' engraved on fhe ouside of each ; a half- pint marmalade Glass Jar, with electro- plated lid and case, worked in bars ; a mar- malade Spoon, in the shape of a shovel ; five silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S.' ; two common Wine Glasses ; and two small white calico Night Dresses, to fit a little child. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Moore, Belgrave, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, June 26. During tbe hours of 10 30 p. m. on the 24th, and 8 a. m. on the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William King, farmer, of High Ongar, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair cf silver Candlesticks; a plated Candlestick ; a toast Rack; a pair of plated Snuffers and Tray ; a large silver square Cruet Stand, with seven glasses, three of them with silver topa ; a pair of plated Decanter Stands; a silver cream Jug, with initials ' M. W. K.'; a butter Knife, with bone handle; two table Covers, one of them woollen and very thick ; and a plated Teapot. Stolen from the person at St. Thomas, Devon, on the 12tli instant : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 76599, also a gilt snake- pattern albert Chain with two Keys aud two sixpenny Pieces attached. Stolen from the person at the Beverley Race Course, on the 16th instant : a gentleman's silver lever Watch, So. 60954 ; a gold lever Watch, No. 5391, maker Thomas Fowler, London ; and a silver horizontal Watch, silver dial, gold or gilt numerals, gold Albert Guard, with Seal at end ( filled with black ceiling wax) attached. BURGLARY AND HOUSE Stolen by means of housebreaking on the 21st instant, at Brenchley, Kent: a small Jewel Box, containing a set. of diamond Studs; a set of gold ditto ; a signet Ring, with monogram ; a gold Ring, bloodstone ; a twist Ring, 100 years old, with name of ' E B. Russell ;' one double- headed snake Rinj;; a horseshoe Piu ; a Guinea, aud three Seals ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links, blue enamel; a set of gilt Buttons; a gold Pin set with carbuncle stone ; a saloon Pistol; a Stick ivory handle silver plate, ' E. B. R.' on plate; also a set of gold Ftuds ; a brown silk Umbrella; a Stick silver, mounted; aud a Box of Studs. Also stolen the same day by means of housebreaking at Ash, West Kent: a boy's new black and white striped cloth Jacket ; a Wedding Ring ; an old- fashioned silver Watch, with steel Chain attached ; and £ 9 103. Supposed by a man about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair and complexion, Email light moustache, slightly made, and round shoulded ; dressed in dark speckled suit, round hat or cap, and had the appearence of a waiter. Charged on a warrant, as a bailee, with stealing, on the 13th instant, a horse Pony, recovered: DAVID ADAMS, 21 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, pockpitted, and of slender build ; he be- longs to Easingwold, and gathers rags, & c. Information to be given to Inspector Ellerby,, North Riding Constabulary, Easingwold, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 26. Found at Brentwood on the night of the 11th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a gray she Ass, 7 or 8 years old, in good condition, and without shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Dobson, Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, June 26. Stolen from Parka Farm, near Bridgend, on the night of the 20th instant,' the property of Mr. David Edwards : a dark bay Horse, 6 years old, near hind foot white, small white star on forehead, and rather low in the back; and a grey Mare, aged, near hind and fere feet white, and has been blistered on the neck. Two Horses, answering the above description, were taken through the east gate, Bridgend, at 1 a. m. on the 21st instant, on the road to Cardiff, by a short stout man, with a mous- tache, and they have been traced to Bristal. Stolen from the road side, on „ he 9th ar, t : a dark brown Exmore mare Pony, 6 years old, 13 hands high ; and a dark brown nag Horse, 8 years old, 15| hands high, switch tail, star on forehead, cut on the off side of rump, and the off hind fetlock white. Stolen from a field near Luton, during the night of the 15th instant, a bay nag Mare, 4 years old, 14 or 15 hands high, black points, except a little white round the hind feet, white STAr on forehead, tail cut rather short is slightly lame, in good condition, and has been broken. The mare was traced to Woodgreen, near London, on the 16th instant, in the pos- session of EDWARD THOMAS, alias ROWLAND, who is charged with stealing a Horse near Petworth, Sussex, as advertized in the Police Gazette of the 12th iuatant. Stolen from a field at Ketley, Salop, on the night of the 11th instant : a bay coloured horse Pony, about 12 hands high, aged, has a slight kell growing over the sight of one eye, is a pit pony, of good stamp, and in good condition; the property of George Buttery. Games, Kensington,' on the inside ; an old fashioned verge Watch ; a gold scarf Pin, with an imitation diamond in centre, and small stones round ; a six- chambered Revolver, large meerschaum Pipe, a Half- sovereign, and some small Coins. Absconded from Ipswich, on the 10th instant, charged trimmed with brown velvet, about three inches wide, stolen with stealing a quantity of carpenter's Tools, since recovered: therein. Supposed by three men: one, 5 feet 10 inches high, MAYHEW SCOTT, alias WALTER SCOTT, a carpenter aud fair hair aud complexion ; drea-'- ed in black cloth coat,' and joiner, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inchea high, dark trousers and vest, high hat, and a gay- coloured scarf with dark complexion, very sharp full blue eyes, dark brown hair, orange spots. Another, dark hair and complexion, 5 ft. 8 ins.; brown bushy whiskers, large mouth, thin lips, and teeth wide high; dressed in dark coat, grey treusers and vest,, aud high apart, has a brown mark about the size of a shilling on his hat. And the other, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair and back ; he was born at Ardleigh, Essex, and has some relatives complexion, and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes and living in Colchester ; has served about 10 years in the Royal deer- stalker hat. Information to be given to Inspector Engineers ; dressed in drat) cord trousers, black cloth coat, Chapman, Police Station, Watford, Herts.— Botz- st., June 19 grey waistcoat, buttoning up to the chin, blue Oxford shirt, cloth cap, and old elastic- side boots. ' Stolen on the 21st instant from the - workshop of Mr. William Batt, tailor and outfitter, Bridge- street, New Swindon: a single- breasted spotted grey mixture cloth Waistcoat, about a yard and a half of dark mixture Cloth, and a pair of men's elastic- side boots with buttons up the fronts. By a tramping tailor who worked in the shop for a few days : from 45 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very thin features, dark complexiou, dark hair ( very thin on top of head, thin lips ; dressed in a black cloth coat, velvet collar, black cloth vest, light cloth trousers, hard felt hat, and supposed wearing the stolen boots, having left his own in the shop. Has served in the army in India, and has a scar from a bullet in right side of forehead. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, June 26. Description of ARTHUR ROBBINS, a butcher, charged with embezzling the Moneys o£ his master William Briant Baverstock, at Shalbourn : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, fresh complexion, full round face, light brown hair, stout build, short neck, bow- legged, and is left handed. He absconded from Shalbourn in February last, and is likely to be found working as a journeyman butcher. Information to b « given, to Inspector Drawett, Hungerford, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 23. Description of WILLIAM COX, alias SPIDER, charged with stealing a Hand Barrow ( recovered), at East- bourne, on the 27th January last : he is about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches hiR. li, dark complexion, thin face, rather lar^ e nose and high forehead, dark brown eyes, very dark hair, cut Short, and parted in centre, small daik whiskers at sides of face, a sear on neek, slight build, aud stoops ; he follows races, and is usually employed as a stable- man at racing stables. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Newnham, Eastbourne, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- sPeet, June 23. Description of EDWARD JOHN WELLS, who absconded ou the 29th ultimo from Stourbridge, chargad with stealing a quantity of Bibles, the property of his employer : he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pale face, dark hair aud eyes, rather slight built, respectable appearance and manner, a book hawker. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 23. Stolen at Middlesborough on the 19th instant; a dark grey mixture cloth shooting Coat, two pockets outside, one - inside left breast, trimmed with dark bone buttons, nearly new. By a man, 5 feet 6 or 6 iuches high, dark hair, and whiskers round his chin, dark complexion ; dressed in a dark cloth coat, dark brown striped trousers, round hard felt hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 23. The tramping printer described in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant, as suspected of stealing Boots at Spilsby, has been committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions, to be ' holden at Spilsby on the 4th proximo; his name is WIL- LIAM LEAK, a native of York. In June 1875. ha was convicted at Barnsley, and in December, 1875, at Bradford, of felony. Iu his possession was found a plated Caddy Spoon, with pearl handle, supposed stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Richdale, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 23. Absconded from Wednesbury, on the 19th instant, charged with stealing £ 4 5s., belonging to his employer: WILLIAM CARSON, a carter, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, grey hair aud beard, a front tooth much decayed, and his hands tremble very much; dressed iu old grey clothing, black billycock hat, and old boots. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Holland, Police Office, Wednesbury, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprebensioa.— Bow- street, June 21. Stolen about 12' 60 p. m, on the 16th instant, from a pawnbroker's shop at Wigan : a silver lever Watch, maker Thomas Milner, Wigan, No. 1150, had attached a gold albeit Guard, engraved on every other link ; and a silver Geneva ' Watch, No. 130791, Armand, Geneva; both watches were Absconded on the 19th instant, from Goldhawk- road, Hammersmith, embezzling £ 2 12s.: a man, 33 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, Mr complexion, hair and tuft on chin brown; dressed in black pilot coat, light check trousers, black vest and dark felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, T Divi- sion, June 19. Absconded from Nottingham on the 14th instant, charged with stealing two £ 5 Notes, the property of Mr. Thomas Dickinson, proprietor of the ' Flying Horse' hotel : JAMES | SNAILHAM, 25 years of age, 5 " feet 8 to 10 inches high, fresh complexion, hair dark brown and rather curly, dark whiskers, moustache a little lighter, shaves on chin. In April last be was employed as boots or porter at the Great Northern Railway Hotel, Leeds, and ia May last in the same capacity at the Swan Hotel, Bolton, Lancashire. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poyntz., Borough Police Station, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, June 16. Description of HYMAN PERLMAN, charged on a warrant wiU having, on the 21st ultimo, committed perjury in the High Court of Justice in the District Registry of the Hull Queen's Bench Division : 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate make, freckled face, red curly hair, and slight ginger- coloured moustache and whiskers. May be travelling as a pedlar at Whitehaven, Barrow- in- Furness, or Middlesbrough. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street,, June 23. The man advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant, under this head, and giving the names of BALMER, CLAUDE ALLEN, & c., is supposed to have been at the Castle Hotel, Dartmouth, Devon, about a fortnight ago and passed a false cheque drawn on Messrs, Coutt's aud Co, bankers, London. He is known at Dartmouth by the name of MacClaude Allen. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dore, G Division, Devon Constabulary, Kingsbridge. — Bow- street, June 19. Description of the dead Body of a woman, unknown, which was found in the River Severn, at Diglis, near Wor- cester, on the 22nd instant : about 50 years of age, 5 ft. 1 or 2 inches lorg, and the hair turning grey ; the only articles of dress upon the Body were a black skirt, grey ribbed cotton stockiugs, and a pair of elastic side boots. The body was greatly decomposed, and must have been in the water a considerable time. At the Coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Found Drowned' was returned. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Phillips, Couuty Police Office, I Worcester.— Bow- street, June 26. Description of HENRY PERKINS, alias HARDING, committed for trial at the next, assizes to be held at Lewes on three charges of breaking into hotels : 19 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 4inches high, large grey eyes, a very little light hair on upper lip, heavy appearance, pate face, light com- plexion, scar on light upper eyelid, no whiskers, lu March last he was waiter at an hotel in London, and says he is a billiard marker. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, June 26. Committed for trial at the County Quarter Sessions, to be held at the Shire Hal), Salop, on the 27th instant, charged , with felony on the 15th instant, at the Pools Farm, iu the 1 parish of Stanton Lacy : THOMAS BERRY, 23 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, brown bair and eyea, oval face, cut on left elbow, and born at Warrington; dressed iu black clothes and old shoes. | FREDERICK SMITH, 31 yeara of age, 5 feet 6 inches ; hi ah, swarthy complexion, black hair, daik eyes, flat face, ' D' on left side, ship on light arm, cut on forehead, ' P. S.' and anchor on left arm, and rings'on the second and fourth fingers of left hand ; dressed in a dirty slop and old dirty trousers. ! RICHARD JOHNSON, 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches | higb, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, oval face, and j born at Oxford ; ' B. He is known at Walsall, West Bromich, Dudley, Bromsgrove, Oldbury, and Chesterfield, and at Derby and" Worcester Gaols. S.', a heart, wreath, and two flags on right arm, ship on left arm, rings on second and third fillers of left hand, a lump on left side of head, bayonet wound on back of mouth, and scar on forehead and chest; he is an engine driver and labourer, and a native of Cranbrook, Kent. He was discharged from Maidstone Gaol on the 3rd June, 1876, under three years police supervision, and has failed to report himself at Sitting- bourne Police Station ; was convicted of larceny at Maid- stone in March Sessions, ' 1875, and sentenced to fifteen months imprisonment. Description of JAMES ASHCROFT, a convict license holder, who left Wordsley, Staffordshire, on the 8th instant, without giving notice to the police : 31 years of age, 5 feet 4 iuches higb, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and has the mark of a cut on left side of forehead. He was sentenced to 7 years penal servitude at Stafford Quarter Sessions, on the 17th October, 1870, and on his release from prison went t, o Wolverhampton, the place of his committal. Since he absconded a letter has been received from him by a person at Wordsley, which bears the Gloucester post mark, but it purports to have been written from Liverpool. He is a weaver, and was convicted at Preston Sessions on the 9th April, 1873, and sentenced to 1.8 months and 7 years police supervision. He was convicted at Beverley of housebreaking, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude; discharged on license from Borstall Convict Prison on the 1st November, 1875 ; time expires 29th June, 1876.
