MURDER AID MALICIOUSLY WOUNMIG. The dead body of a female infant, was found in a field at Thornbury, near Bradford, on the 8th instant: it was wrapped in an old dirty cotton chemise, mended in several places, and very much stained ; the mother is supposed to be a tramp. At the coroners inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Stolen from Charlton Marshall, on the 9th instant: two 2- years old Heifers, the property of Mr. Goldie, one brindle, the other a spotted shorthorn. Stolen on the 12th instant, from a meadow at Spring- road, Ipswich : a small bay Pony, aged 6 years, with hog mace, walks a little lame, aud has a small piece cut out of the off ear. Stolen from a field at Ketley, Salop, on the night of the llth instant : a bay- coloured horse Pony, about 12 hands high, aged, has a slight kell growing over the sight of one eye, is a pit pony, of good stamp, and in good condition ; the property of George Buttery. Stolen from a field at Ivinghoe, during the night of the 10th inst. : a light brown horse Pony, 6 years old, 12| hands- high, thick neck and mane, white star on forehead, cow hock, and Russian breed. Description of EDWARD THOMAS alias ROULAND, charged with stealing a Horse ( recovered) from Ebernoe, near Petworth, on the night of the 25th ultimo : 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, : he 10th instant, from Goldhawk- road, zling £ 2 12s. : a man, 33 years of age, , fair complexion, hair and tuft on chin black pilot coat, light check trousers, felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, T Divi- district. He had a woman with him, whom he called his wife, who absconded with him, and are supposed to be travelling together: she is about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches higb, very much sunburnt, brown hair, and steps [ very short; dressed in a lilac or brown winsey dress, paisley shawl, and strong lace- up boots. GRIEVE, charged on a warrant with em' . tng £ 25 4s.., the property of his masters, Ellis Jones and others, at Hull, on the 21st April last: he is 43 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, large whiskers, beard, and moustache ( turning grey) ; dresses well, and has been a clerk or traveller. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 16. Absconded from Nottingham on the 14th instant, charged with stealing two £ 5 Notes, the property of Mr. Thomas Dickinson, proprietor of the ' Flying Horse' hotel: JAMES SNAILHAM, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 to 10 inches higb, fresh complexion, hair dark brown and rather curly, dark whiskers, moustache a little lighter, shaves on chin. In April last he was employed as boots or porter at the Great Northern Railway Hotel, Leeds, and in May last in the same capacity at the Swan Hotel, Bolton, Lancashire. Chapman, Police Station, Watford, Herts.— Box- st., June 19 Between 3 and 6 a. m. on the llth instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Chambers, Church- lane, Llanidloes, was broken into4||! d stolen therein : a pair of lace- up Boots, with brass eyelets aud hobnails, man's small size,- aud little worn ; a white pocket Handkerchief, with red border; a Loaf of Bread ; half- a- pound of Butter ; two pounds of Sugar; aud a Teaspoon. Supposed by a tramp, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather sandy, and stout; wore a cap, dark coat, aud the stolen boots ; carried a bundle. In- formation to be given to Chief Constable Dauily, Newtown, or to Sergeant Sibbald, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire. - Bow- street, June 14. Between 11 p. m. on the 9th and 1.30 a. m. on the 10th instant, the grocer's shop and post- office of Mrs. Esther Briscoe, Ince, Cheshire, was broken and entered and stolen therein : 4 or 5 Sixpenny Pieces, 1 Threepenny Piece, some Copper Monies, and 15 Penny; Postage Stamps. Two men and a boy were seen loitering about in the forenoon, and the boy was in the shop begging; he is from 12 to 14 years of age, and very sharp and iuteiiigent looking ; dressed in a short dark mixture jacket, corduroy trousers, very wide. One man is 37 or 38 years of age, and 5 feet 8 or 9 iucnes higb ; dressed in dirty light clothes. The other is an elderly man ; dressed in a long black or dark cloth coat. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayho, Tarporley, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 12. By a man, about 22 years of age,- 5 feet 7 luches high, and diessed iu dark coat, Supposed to : be in company with a young man, about 19 years of age, and l dressed in white linen jacket. Also stolen about 6 p m. on the 14th instant, from a lodging- house in Wigau : three single Blankets, a twill Sheet, a man's check cotton Shirt, a paisley Shawl, and a scarlet and black woollen Shawl, one white stripe. By a man, a tailor, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache; dressed iu dark mixture tweed shooting coat and trousers, elastic- side boots, and black billycock hat. He stated that he came from Bury- to Bolton, and thence to Wigan. Information to bo giveu to Chief Constable Williams, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 19. trousers aud vest, and round felt hat. Stolen from the fold- yard of Mr. John Pritchard, at Oaken Gates, Salop, on the night of the l5th instant; a black' Description of JOHN SHAW, recently employed as a traveller for the sale of Ale and Porter, who is charged with embezzling £ 1 3s., belonging to Mr. Charles Bikker, of Wolverhampton : 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches higb, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on forehead, and left leg very much bowed. . He is a native of Sheffield, and used to hawk fancy goods. Information to be giveu to Chief Constable Segrave, Wolverhampton, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 19. Absconded from Rosedale early on the morning of the llth instaut, charged with stealing a Gothic Timepiece, rose- wood case, 15 ins. by 8 ins. ; a Counterpane, red, white, and blue ( mixed) ; and a pair of blanket Sheet?, small size, nearly new : a tramping Shoemaker, 48 to 60 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair turning grey, whiskers shaved off, and proportionate build; dressed in a grey cloth coat and vest, black binding, cord trousers, soft FELONIES. ( Met otherwise described). Absconded from, Foleshill, charged with rape : ENOCH ATHERSYCH, native of Foleshill aud ribbon pattern maker, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 iuches high, fair complexion, ight brown bair, full beard, and moderate build ; generally dressed in light plaid trousers, light grey jacket, and black billycock bat. Information to be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 12. somas* The man advertised in tho Police Gazette of the 12th instaut, under this head, and giviug the names of BALMER, CLAUDE ALLEN, & c., is supposed to have been at the Castle Hotel, Dartmouth, Devou, about a fortnight ago and passed a false cheque drawn oa Messrs. Coutt's aud Co., bankers, London. Ho is known at Dartmouth by the name of MacClaude Allen. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dore, G Division, Devon Constabulary, Kingsbridge. — Bow- street, June 19. Description of THOMAS KAY, groeer, formerly of Ashton- under- Lyne, charged with obtaining a quantity of black felt hat, and shooting boots; he is supposed to j Bacon, Cheese, an A Butter by false pretences : 30 years of a _ bave - worked at Starthes, Stockton, Middlesbrough and ! 5; Jt, 5 ius, high, dark hair, fresh complexion, slight whiskers ar. d moustache, and stout build ; generally dressed in Scotch black and white plaid suit, and is a native of tho West of Ireland. It is supposed he will attempt to start business as provision dealer. Infcrmation to be given to Chief Con- stable Dalgliesh, Borough Police Office, Town Hall, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 10. Absconded from Wetton, near Ashborne, charged on a warrant with poisoning fish at Grindon, on the lst instant : WILLIAM WINT, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark hair and eyes, fresh complexion, left ear bitten off, hair long on the left side to cover the same, and the fourth finger on right hand crooked ; he is a mason's labourer, and supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Sheffield or Derby. And BENJAMIN ALCOCK, labourer, of Butterton, near Leek, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers, and stoutly built. Supposed to be in the neighbourhood of the Potteries, or Manchester. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Dobson, Warslow, near Ashborne, Staffordshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension, — . Bon- street, June 16. Absconded from Greywell, Hants, on the 4th instant, charged with obtaining goods on false pretences, at Odiham, on the 31st ultima : DORCAS WHITE, o£ Old Basing, near Basingstoke ; 20 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, rather round featured, full face, and slightly sun freckled ; dressed in grey dress, trimmed with blue, black hat with scarlet flowers, and is supposed to have a dark blue waterproof with her. Infor- mation to be given to Sergeant Gilbert, Hants Constabulary. Odiham, Hants, who holds a warrant for her apprehension,— Bow- street, June 16. Absconded from Kintbury on the' 9th iDstant, charged with obtaining £ 25 12s. 6d., by false pretences : THOMAS TAYLOR, late National Schoolmaster at Kintbury, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light grey eyes, light brown hair, and slight figure ; dressed in soft black felt hat, dark coat and trousers, and usually wears spectacles. Has been in the army, and is believed to be a pensioner. Information to be given to Superintendent Bennett, Newbury, Berks, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 16. Description of a man charged with obtaining 3s. by false pretences, at Stonebreaks, on the 8th instant: about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, out short, moustache and imperial turning grey ; dressed in white rough linen jacket, dark cloth striped trousers, cloth cap, and old shoes. Information to be given to Inspector Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, Saddleworth, York- shire.— Bow- street, June 14, Obtained by false pretences, at Keighley, on the 10th instant: the sum of 8s. By TOHN BOOTH, native of Gateshead, a painter and paperhanger, about 32 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, well built, light brown hair, cut rather short aud parted down the centre, pale complexion, round features, wears moustache only, and cut mark on side of one eye; dressed in brown mixture overcoat with velvet collar, dark vest, black trousers, blue tie, aud plaid cap, supposed blue and green. Left Keighley on the 10th instant; warrant issued. May be in company with a woman to whom he is said to be married, a native of Wrexham, and is a tall, stout woman. Information to be given to Superintendent' Ireland, West Riding Constabulary, Keighley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 14, Description of WILFRED M. WALLER ( name sup- posed to be fictitious) charged by William Garrett, hotel keeper, Chepstow, with obtaining £ 3 by means of a false cheque, drawn on Messrs. Coutts and Co,, London : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, prominent eyes, dark complexion, hair ( parted in the middle and very thin in front.), whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in dark grey suit, and black felt hat, had with him a small black leather bag, light coloured satin scarf,- with silver or steel scarf pin, in the form of a driving bit with cross bar, attached, several rings|[ on his fingers, one of them silver, and carried a walking stick, with silver band on the handle. He ia very fond of talking about officers in the Army and horse racing, is of gentlemanly appearance and manners, and said he was a member of the Grafton Club, Grafton- street, London. Sup- posed. to be the same man described in the Police G azette of 29th March last, in the name of W. A. BALMER, charged with obtaining Money at Maidstone; also as CLAUDE ALLEN, in the Police Gazette of the 15ih ultimo, obtaining Money at Luton ; also as CAPTAIN CLAUDE FARE, in Police Gazette of the 7th instant, obtaining Money at Weymouth. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny: to Captain Berthon, Usk; or to Inspector Ward, Chepstow, Monmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 12. fiimikTmm ® The dead Body of a man unknown was found in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Rishton, on the 15th instant: about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches long, fresh complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, sandy moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in black cloth coat, two pockets with flaps, black cloth vest, two pockets outside, and . a pair of black tweed trousers, with watch pocket only, grey drawers, short knitted stockings, blue flannel shirt, elastic- side boots, nearly new, with small nails in soles, marked ® H. B.', and a plaid scarf. He appeared to have been a fireman, and is supposed ta have been in the water 3 or 4 days. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of ' Found drowned1 was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Read, County Police Office, Blackburn, Lancashire.—- Bow- street, June 21. Remanded on a charge [ of larceny, at Stony Stratford, until the 23rd instant: a man who gives the name of GEORGE WHITE, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, hazel eyes, and light brown hair ; dressed in black billycock hat, white slop with metal buttons, dirk striped tweed vest, black cloth trousers, dark cotton shirt, white necktie, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Inspector Webb, Police Station, Stony Stratford, . Bucks.— Bow- street, June 19. Description of ELIZABETH BIGGS, who was con- victed at the Eastbourne Petty Sessions on the 12th instant, on two charges of stealing gold Rings from jeweller's shops, and sentenced to 14 days hardl abour for each offence in Sussex County Prison at Lewes : 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, and medium build; dressed in a black coarse straw hat, trimmed with white lace and daisies, grey striped polonaise with ball fringe, and black silk skirt, The following Pawn Tickets were found in her possession : No. 599, 23rd May, 1876, four Rings for £ 3, in the name of Miss Glover, Kensington, Park- road, and No. 19, dated 1st June, 1876, Sleeve Links, Miss Neville, Ledbury- road, both pledged with E. C. Smith, 5, Devonshire- terrace, Notting- hill- gate, London; No. 2902, dated 29 th May, 1876, a Pencil- case, for 10s., Miss Glover, 18, Pelham- road, with Geo. S. Chapman, 108, Fulham- road, Brompton ; and No. 354, 31st May, J876, Wrist Links, for £ 1, Miss Wilson, Portland- road, with Robert Baker Starling, 68, Great Portland- street, London, information to be given to Superintendent Newnham, Eastbourne, Sussex.— Bom- street, June 19. Escaped from the County Gaol, Bury St. Edmunds, on the 17th instant: SAMUEL WRIGHT, a native of Long Melford, a matmaker, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5- J inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, and wearing a grey prison dress. Information to be given to the Police, Bury St, Edmunds, Suffolk.— Bow- street, June 19. Description of JAMES ASHCROFT, a convict license holder, who left Wordsley, Staffordshire, ou the 8th instant, without giving notice to the police : 31 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and has the mark of a cut on left side of forehead. He was sentenced to 7 years penal servitude at Stafford Quarter Sessions, on the 17th October, 1870, and on his release from prison went to Wolverhampton, the place of his committal. Since he absconded a letter has been received from him by a person at Wordsley, which bears the Gloucester post mark, but it purports to have been written from Liverpool. He was convicted at Beverley of housebreaking, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude; discharged on license from Borstall Convict Prison on the lst November, 1875 ; time expires 29th June, 1876.
