Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford, or to Sergeant Barrett, Police Station, Penk- ridge, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 8. Between 10 p. m. on the 29th, and 5 a. m. on the 30th ult., the cottage of Henry Jarvis, Middle Assenden, was broken into, and 4 lbs. of Bacon ; an old Towel; li yalds of Holland ; and a pair of Scissors stolen therein. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Coates, Police Station, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon.— Low- street, June % Between 9 a. m. and 3 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Matthew Skipsey, of Sowerby, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a brown mixture shotting Coat, with two pockets outside, one inside left breast; a black cloth Vest, single breasted ; a black silk Neckerchief; a jean Jacket; a black felt Hat; and about 2 lbs. of cooked Bacon. Supposed by a tramp, who no doubt will be wearing the stolen coat and hat, as an old black cloth coat, and a small low- crowned hat, was found in the house. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsby, Northallerton, or to Inspector Nicholson, Thirsk, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 2. MURDER AID MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 31st ultimo, the body of a female Child, about two months old, was found in a field of Mr. Wilson's, Manor House Farm, Kirkham. At the Coroner's inquest, the medical officers were of opinion that the child had been murdered, and had been in the water from 14 to 28 days at the least. The inquest is adjourned until the 1 9th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Long, East Riding Constabulary, Norton- Malton, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, June 6. FORGERY. Absconded from Oldham, on the 13th instant, charged with forgery: WILLIAM LAWSON, a coal merchant, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sandy hair, fair complexion, round face, has a twist near end of nose, which also has a slight blue mark across the biidge ; he is generally dressed in light tweed clothes. He is supposed to be endeavouring to leave the country, probably for Spain. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Oldham, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 26. ROBBERY AMD LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Description of GEORGE HENRY UPTON, charged with stealing from the person of Charles Needles, of Salt- fleetby, St. Peters : a Purse, containing £ 16 in Gold and Silver : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, red hair, sandy whiskers, freckled face, walks erect, and surly looking; has a brother residing at Hillsborough, near Sheffield. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, Louth, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 2. -- Stolen from the person of John Bright, at Newtown Fair : a Purse, containing £ 4 in Gold, and eleven £ 5 Notes of the North and South Wales Bank, Newtown and Oswestry. By JOHN BOWKER, alias WOWZER, and JOSIAH BEECH, horse dealers. Beech has been apprehended and committed for trial. Bowker is still at large, and for his apprehension a warraDt has been issued : he is about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, small whiskers, and bow- legged; dressed in light coat and vest, woollen cord trousers, and jim- crow bat; he is well known to horse dealers, and is supposed to be in company witb a man about 40 years, of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, swarthy complexion, black hair, cut short, clean shaved, appears as if blind with one eye, gipsy appear- ance, and attends fairs in England, aud North and South Wales. They- are now supposed to be in Ireland in company with a pickpocket who attends horse and cattle fairs. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 31. About 2 a. m. on the 29th instant,. a butcher's shop was broken into and a door Bolt stolen therein. By two men, one of whom was apprehended, the other escaped, and is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 iuches high, and stoutly, made; dressed in blue serge jacket, dark trousers, and cloth cap. Iuformation to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow street, May 31. During the hours of 12 midnight on the 23rd and 3 am. on the 24th instant, the grocer's shop of Charles Catherall, of Higher Kinnerton Hope, was broken into, and 2s. lid. in Copper, about 1lb. of Cheese, a Loaf of Bread, and about 20 Eggs stolen theiein. Information t. o be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or to Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, May 29. During the night of the 23rd. instant, the Booking Office of Longford Railway Station was broken and entered and stolen therein : one Saloon Pistol, No. 1 size ; 30 or 40 Old ansl Foreign Coins, one marked ' Tag, Rag and Bobtail' ; one an Isle of Man Coin, and one of the Bank of Montreal ; a Cigar Case, dark green, steel fastenings, cameo front with a lady sitting on a lion's back; also 4s. in Copper Money. Information to bo given to Superintendent Auston, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, May 29. Between 4 p. m. on the 26th, and 4 a. m. on the 27th inst., the house of Elizabeth Rutter, the Yacht Inn, Woodbank, near Chester, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 12s. in Copper Money ; a black or dark- coloured cloth Over- coat, far worn, with black velvet collar, dark horn buttons, two pockets outside skirts, one pocket inside left breast, lined with black alpaca, aad supposed double- breasted ; a three- half- pint Bottle, containing Irish Whisky, labelled ' Ginger Wine'; and a three- half- pint Bottle of Gin. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Hall, Birken- head, Cheshire.— Brno- street, May 29. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Ashton- under- Lyne ( by housebreaking) between 3' 30 and 4' 30 p. m. on the 26th inst.: a black cloth Coat, with pockets in left breast and on each hip ; a pair of black cloth Trousers ; a black cloth Vest: a pair of grey tweed Trousers ; a black lustre Dress, bound round bottom with peaeh; a black Russel cord Dress; a black and white striped Shawl; a grey rose coloured Shawl; a black mourning Skirt; a buff print Dress, with black stripe ; a black rep Dress ; a white flannel Petticoat; a silk Umbrella ; and 5s. in Money. Information to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Borough Police Office, Town Hall, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bono- street, May 29. 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark liair and eyes, swarthy complexion, and aquiline nose ; dressed, in corduroy trousers, brown jacket with large white buttons, and imita- tion sealskin cap with peak ; has the appearance of a gipsy. £ 1 reward will be paid for his apprehension and conviction. Information to be given to Superintendent Whieldon, Con- stabulory Office, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.— Bow- st., June 6. Stolen from a field at Askham Bryan, between 8 p: m,, 31stult., and 7 a. m., ,1st instant : a black horse Pony, 3 years old, 14j hands high, rather long square tail, has not been docked, and in fair condition ; the property of William Stephenson, farmer. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Kane, Tadcaster, York.— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen from a field at St. George's, Gloucestershire, on the night of the 27th ultimo : a dark brown mare Pony, 4 years old, about 12i hands high, hog mane, short tail, has been lately clipped aud knees broken, iu good condition, the property of Robert Leonard, Butcher, West- street, Bristol. Information to be given to Inspector Bird, Police Station, St. George's, near Bristol.— Bow- street, June 2. SAMUEL SMITH ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo as having stolen a Horse from Basingstoke) has been apprehended at Hampton. The other man described with him is still at large, and a wariaut is issued for his apprehension: his name is EDWARD THOMAS, alias ROULAND, 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 iuches high, brown hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, cross on left arm, burn mark on right knee, right nostril and lip eaten away with cancer, dark whiskers and moustache, and has a piece of flesh- coloured sticking paper on the bad part of his nose ; he is a gipsey hawker. He was liberated from Portland Convict Prison on the 9th March, 1876, where he served seven yeaia penal servitude for Horse stealing ( see Police Gazette of March 10, 1876, uuder Habitual Criminals Liberated). £ 1 reward will e paid for the apprehension of this man. Stolen from a field at Eostherne, during the night of the 28th instant: a grey she Ass, aged, in good condition, a crack in one fore hoof, and without shoes, the property of Mr. Wm. Carter. £ 1 reward will be given for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Ass. Information to be given to Superintendent Aston, Altrincham, or to Sergeant Hollingworth, Lymm, or to P. C. Fowles, Eostherne, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 31. BURGLARY AMD HOTOE BREAKING. Between 12 p. m. on the 31st ultimo and 5a, m. on the 1st instant the shop of John Jones, of Station- lane, Buckley, was broken into, and stolen therein : about 7s. in Copper Monies, 2 small black Brooches, and a pair of steel Spectacles. Information to be given to Detective Chief Constable Adams, or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire,— Bow- street, June 6. Between 9 p. m, ou the 31st ultimo and 5 a. m, on the lst HORSB AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a stable at Oldbury on the 29th ultimo : a black Mare, aged, has a small quantity of hair rubbed off the near hip, and turning grey from old age. Information to be given to Sergeant Simmouds, Police Station, Oldbury, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from a field at Glemeford, Suffolk: a dark bay Welsh Pony, three years old, 13 hands high, clipped tail, and has bruises on the hocks from kicking. Information to be given to Superintendent Roberts, Clare, or to Sergeant Ward, Glemsford, Suffolk.— Bow- street, June 6. Absconded from Ashbourne, charged with stealing, on the the 27th ultimo, a Horse ( recovered) : a youth, about LARCENY AMD EMBEZZLEMENT. CHARLES MIDDLEBROOK, the professional rink skater, who absconded from Coventry, stealiug Monies and a Watch ( Watch recovered), described in Police Gazette of the 24t, h ultimo, has been apprehended at Briddlington. Any information respecting him is respectfully solicited by Head Constable Norris, Coventry.— Bow- street, June 6. Description of HENRY CHARLES TEWKESBURY, a clerk, who absconded from Salisbury, on the 16th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing from his employers, £ 13 10s., and other Monies : he is 17 years of age, 5feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, remarkably square face, slight whiskers and moustache, strongly made, walks very upright, is a member of the lst Wilts Rifle Corps; dressed in a dark blue morning coat, bound with black braid, dark mixture cloth vest and trousers, buttons marked ' Fleming, Salisbury,' black silk corded necktie, a small gold twisted pin, with a piece of red coral inserted ; and a low crowned black stiff felt hat. Information to be given > to Head Constable Mathews, Salisbury, WTilts.— Bow- street., June 2. Stolen during the night of the 24th instant, from the premises of Henry Collins, at Downley, West Wycombe: a cross cut Saw ( since recovered,) also a hand Saw, nearly new, with the lower part of handle cut off. By a man about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sandy hair, few whisisers, very freckled face ; dressed in brown slop or jacket, worsted cord trousers, blucher boots, and low- crowned hard hat. Is a tramping carpenter, carrying a flag basket, con- taining a band Saw, supposed the stolen one. Information to be given to Superintendent Sargent, County Constabulary, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 31. Absconded from Salisbury, on the 16th instant, stealing £ 13 10s, the moneys of his employers Williams and Bros., Salisbury : HENRY CHARLES TEWKESBURY, 17 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair, cut short, grey eyes, and walks very erect; dressed in dark blue over- coat, dark mixture cloth vest and trousers, and black hard felt hat. A warrant, has been granted for his apprehension. Information to be given to Head Constable Mathews, City Police Office, Salisbury, YvTdtshire.— Bow- street, May 31. Absconded from Eastbourne on the 23rd instant, charged with stealiug a silver Geneva Watch ( recovered), and 9s. 6d.: a woman, about 48 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inchcs high, fresh complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, inclined to curl, and medium figure ; dressed in black bonnet., trimmed with white flowers, black cloth jacket, black polonaise, grey drab mohair dress with one deep flounce, spring- side boots" She io a widow, and gains her livelihood by making baby- linen. Information to be given to Superintendent Newnham, East borne, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 31. Absconded on the 17th instant, from Newington Butts, embezzling £ 8 : WILLIAM JAMES BARTLETT, late of 56, Melton- road, Heme Hill, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, long auburn hair and whiskers, gentlemanly appearance ; likely to go to America. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Polioe, L Division, May 29. Absconded ex. the 17th instant, from Hercules- place, Holloway- road, embezzling £ 6 lis. 8d. : a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, full face, slight moustache, and no whiskers; dressed as a butcher.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, May 29. Absconded, 18th, from Thornhill- square, Islington, embezzling £ 15 : a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slim build, complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache ( slight) dark; dress, grey suit, black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 29. Absconded, 23rd instant, from Somerset- street, Mary- lebone, stealing £ 1 : a youth, 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, good looking, and tattoo marks cn arms ; dressed in black cloth trousers, dark overcoat ( too large for him), and black billycock hat. He says he has served in the Navy.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, May 29. Charged on a warrant with stealing a suit of Black Clothes, the property of Joseph Furnandez, in Hull, on the 13th instant: RICHARD RIDER, an American, 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, black moustache, dark hair and complexion, and high eheek bones ; dressed in brown cloth- ing. He will probably endeavour to return to America. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, York- shire.— Bow- street, May 29. Absconded from Ipswich, in March last, charged with embezzlement: JAMES NEWMAN URCH, 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, full beard and moustache, round face, full eyes, rather short neek, square shoulders, walks erect; he has been employed in stationer's and bookseller's shops, is ut good address, aud of gentlemanly appearance. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street,, May 29. Description of CHARLES WEBB, charged with steal- ing 19s.; the property of Mr. John Darrall, Cannock : he is 27 years of age, 6 feet high, slender build, whiskers shaved off, tuft of hair on chin, heavy black moustache, dark complexion, thin long face, black hair parted down the front, and walks erect, has been a soldier ; dressed in moleskin trousers, short pilot jacket much worn, black billycock hat, aud elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, or to Serjeant Evans, Cannock, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— — Bow- street, May 29. Description of two men, charged with stealing £ 7 10s. in'Gold and a silver Geneva Watch, metaldome, No. 21133 : one 23 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, long features, wears a hard billycock hat. The other 20 yenrs of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, round chubby features, wears an apron • wrapped, round his waist, and soft billycock hat, turned up at sides. They were both dressed in dark clothes, and had the appearance of curriers, mechanics, or shoe- rivetlers. Information to be given to Superintendent Haigh, Police Office, Kidderminster, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, May 29. ( Not othervt'sn described). Absconded, charged v. b It an assault, with intent to ravish, at Armadale, near Bathgate, on the lst ultimo: ABRAHAM BENNETT, a miner, a native of Crofthead, Linlithgowshire, brought up at Armadale, and latterly resided at Bowhouse Rows, Stirlingshire, 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches higb, long face, brown complexion, rather red hair, fair whiskers ( if any), small and thin, small straight nose, thin cheeks, good teeth, small mouth, grey eyes, fair eyebrows, slender make, scar on little finger of right hand, a little sun- freckled on forehead, and red spots on the faee ; dressed in light grey striped cap, with peak of same material, blue cloth shooting coat, dark grey tweed trousers, light g^ ey tweed vest, black and white checked or shepherd tartan neck- erchief, white woollen socks, and blucher boots ; he is of Irish extraction, rather talkative, has been, in custody for assault and breeches of the peace, and was only a few days out of prison, after undergoing a sentence of 4 months, for stealing whisky, by housebreaking, from a store at Armadale. A sheriff's warrant has been grafted for his apprehension. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Linlith- gow, Linlithgowshire.— Bow- street, June 2. wm, AUDS AID ASm& fATSS Further information respecting the Bicycle obtained by false pretences at Dover ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo) : it has iron work near the saddle, marked ' Coventry Machinist Company ' on one side, and ' No. 5004' stamped the other, and has gun metal hubs. Information to be given to Superintendent Sanders, Police Station, Dover, Kent.— Bow- street, June 6. Obtained, l6th instant, by means of a fictitious cheque on the Derby and Derbyshire Banking Company the sum oi £ 7 : by a woman, 25 years of age, fair complexion, light brown hair, small eyes, sleepy appearance ; dress, black alpaca costume, black velvet bonnet, trimmed with blaek and green feathers. She had with her a child, 3 years of age ; dressed in blue serge jacket and frock, grey felt hat with maroon feather.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, June 6. Absconded on the Sth ultimo, charged with Fraudulent Bankruptcy: GEORGE CARPENTER WALLIS, 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, pale blue eyes, slender build, very little hair ( if any) on face, and small moustache. Information to be given to Detective Inspector Battersby, Central Police Office, Sheffield.— Bow- ttreet, June 2. Description of a man, charged with obtaining £ 2 by false pretences from J. E. Miller, Esq., Batheaston, on the 25th ultimo : about 50 years of age, middle size and stout, has a wen over right eye. He representted that he was a brother of Mr. Gerrish of that village, and that he was collecting funds to obtain the admittance into the Royal Hospital for Incurables, London, of a young man who was paralysed in consequence of a railway accident. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Upper Bris( ol- road, Bath,— Bow- st., June 2, Remanded until the 9th instant, for larceny at Middles- brough : ANNIE AITKEN, alias SMITH, 39 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches hijjfe, fresh complexion, dark hair, and slightly pockpitted above the nose. States that she is a native of Thornley Colliery, Durham, and tbat sbe has resided in Durham for a considerable time, which place she left about a fortnight ago. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 6. Reminded at Aberystwith until the 7th instant, on a charge of larceny: ROBERT WHITELEY, a tramping billiard marker, and native o£ Trunch, Norfolk. He states that he has recently returned from America, is 28 years of age, 5 feet inches high, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers or moustache, and large grey eyes ; dressed in grey tweed jacket with velvet collar, two pockets on each side, blaek cloth trousers, hard black felt bowler hat, and very thin boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Aberystwith, Cardiganshire.— Boio- street, June 6. WILLIAM HAYWOOD, described in the Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo, charged with stealing £ 3 las. at Stafford, has been apprehended in Derbyshire, and committed for trial at Stafford Sessions. And CHARLES CHEVALIER, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th ultimo, as remanded to Stafford Gaol, has beeu handed over to the Worcestershire Police and com- mitted to the Worcester Sessions. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, June 6.
