Stolen, by means of burglary, during the night of the 26th ultimo, from the Vicarage, Bitton, Gloucestershire, the property of the Rev. E. N. Ellacombe : I silver cream Jug, stands on three feet, dented a little on one side, crest a stag's head, and holds about half- a- pint; 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, broken a little on one side ; 3 silver Tea Spoons, marked either ' E. M.' or with the crest of stag's head. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, or to Sergeant Morley, Oldland Common, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, May 3. On the night of the 29th ultimo, a shoemaker's shop near Penrith, Cumberland, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 1 pair of new half water- tight pegged Boots, four eyelet holes and five holes on each side, calkers on heels, two rows of sparables round the soles and two rows of hobnails, in the shape of a half- moon in the middle of soles ; a piece of strong Leather, called in the trade ' Shoe- butP; a piece of light Leather, called ' Slipper Top'; and a shoemaker's Knife, about half worn, with oval handle. Information to be given to Superintendent Eowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, May 3. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. The Wateh advertised in the Police Gazette of the 5th instant, as stolen from the person of a gentleman, at the Shifnal Railway Station, has been recovered.— Bow- street, May 10. Description of two men who assaulted and robbed Joseph Woollam of 2s. in Silver and a clasp Knife ( buckhorn haft) on the highway at Rhodes- hill, near Lees, on the 7th instant: one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and large whiskers; dressed in soft black felt hat, navvy's slop and boots, and dirty cord trousers. The other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, black moustache, and no whiskers; dressed in dark clothes and clogs. Information to be given at the County Police Office, Wilshaw, near Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire. — Bow- street, May 8. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, at Newtown, Montgomeryshire, from the person of John Bright, of Bromlow, Salop : a leather Purse, containing £ 4 in Gold, and eleven £ 5 Notes of the North and South Wales Bank, Newtown and Oswestry, by JOHN BOWKER, alias WOWZER, and JOSIAH BEECH, low horse dealers. Beech has been apprehended and committed for trial, Bowker is still large, and for his apprehension a warrant has been issued : he is 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet G or 7 inches higb, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, small whiskers, and bow- legged ; dressed in light coat and vest, woollen cord trousers, and jimcrow hat. He is well known to all horse dealers, he is frequently in company with the copers, and is known to the police at Liverpool and Nantwich. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 3. Stolen from the person of Mr. Samuel Burton, farmer, Long Clawson, between Hose and Long Clawson, on the 27th ultimo : a gold lever Watch, No. 56101, with a plain gold Albert Chain attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Goodman, Constabulary Office, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, May 3. On the night of the 27th ultimo, NINIAN GIBBON, was violently assaulted and wounded in the throat, between South Hylton and White Haugh, and robbed by two men of a gold lever Watch, jewelled in 8 holes, No. 40842, gold Albert Chain belcher pattern, and £ 2 in Gold and Silver. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Fairbridge, Houghton- le- Spring, or to Sergeant Smith, South Hylton, near Sunder- land, Durham.— Bow- street, May 1. Stolen from a gentleman at the Tenbury Races on the 26th ultimo : a double case gold Geneva Hunting Watch, engine- turned cases, much worn, a smooth place in centre of case, surrounded by a garter, white face, black figures, with gold second circle hand, and a common pin fastening the bow to the Watch. Information to be given to Superintendent Raby, Great Witley, or to Sergeant Turner, Tenbury, Wor- cestershire.— Bow- street, May 1. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field on the 24th ultimo: 10 Yearling Sheep, the near ear has a slit in length, the off ear a key notch under, and a ruddle mark between the ears and down the left thigh; the property of Mr. Benjamin Powell, Pres- teon, Abbeycwmhir, Radnorshire. A reward of £ 2 is offered. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wheeldon, Penybont, or to Police Constable Davies, Llanbadarnfynydd, Radnorshire, or to Sergeant J. Sibbald, Llanidlees, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 8. Stolen during the night of the 15th ultimo, from Boxhall Road, Dulwich : a dark brown Mare, aged, 15 hands higb, black points, wrung on shoulder, and scarred near hind hoof. And a brown cob Horse, aged. Both in good condition.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, May 8. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Nedge- hill, in the parish of Shiffnal, during the night of the 23rd ult. : a bay Pony, about 10 years old, stout made, about 13 hands higb, rough coated, with scurvy legs, and has a white star on forehead, the property of the Rev. R. Woods, of Malinslee Vicarage. Two guineas reward will be paid by the Rev. R. Woods, on recovery of the pony and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Higgins, Dawley, Salop.— Bow- street, May 8. Stolen from a field at Llangollen during the night of the lst instant, the property of Mr. Robert Jones : a black or dark bay mountain mare Pony, aged 10 years, 11 handshigh, white star on forehead, white down the nose, scar four inches long inside the near leg, short thick tail. Information to be given to Inspector Humphreys, Llangollen, Denbighshire, or to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- street, May 5. Stolen during the night of the 29th ultimo, from a field at Barfrestone ; an aged dark brown mare Pony, 13 hands high, fawn- colour nose, tail cut above hough, black points, has been clipped, and had no shoes on. Information to be given to Superintendent Stokes, County Police Office, St. Bartholomews, Sandwich, Kent.— F. ow- street, May 3. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the South Cavalry Barracks, Aldershot: a bay Mare, 15 hands 2f inches high, white face, star on off hind leg, ' 8 H. E. 38' stamped on fore hoofs, had on a Military Saddle, and bridoon Rein. By private SAMUEL HOLLIS, 8th Hussars, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair ; dressed in blue stable uniform ; a native of Belper, Derby,— Metropolitan Police, Woolwich Dockyard Division, May 3. Stolen from a field, in the borough of Bolton, on the 18lh ultimo : a black Mare, about 13| hands high, in very good condition, has two small white marks on left side, each about one inch diameter, rather aged, and a little stiff in the hind fetlocks. £ 5 reward and all reasonable expences will be paid for the recovery of said mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 1. £ 1 in Gold. By a man and woman of the following descrip- tion : man about 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, strongly built, no whiskers, marked somewhat with small pox, and a navvy; was dressed as such when he left, and carried a bundle. The woman has full face, and wore a red shawl and dark hat with green wreath. Information to be given to Detective Phillips, City Police, Worcester.— Bow- street, May 10. Description of JOHN DOUGLE, alias CHARLES THOMPSON, a Dutchman, tailor, charged on a warrant with stealing from the dwelling- house of John Goss, Fore- street, Cullompton, on the night of the 30th ultimo : a blue pilot cloth Great Coat, with velvet collar, much worn; a black cloth frock Coat; a dark brown Coat; and a pair of dark grey plaid Trousers : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, tuft of hair on chin, large roman nose ; dressed in black wide- awake hat, dark plaid vest, black cloth trousers, and one of the stolen coats, elastic- side boots, much worn, one cut open in front, and sewed up behind with black thread. Information to be given to Superintendent Collins, Devon Constabulary, Cullompton, Devon, who holds the warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, May 10. V - dtd ou the lst instant, from Lavender- place, Battersea, embezzling £ 40 : a man 19 years of age, 5 ft. 9 ins. high, fair complexion and hair, dark eyes, small cut on bottom lip ; dressed in dark overcoat, blue [ ribbed under ditto and vest, dark mixture trousers, oxonian boots, and sealskin cup. He is a milk carrier. — Metropolitan Police, V Division, May 8. Absconded from Abercam, near Newport, Monmouth- shire, between 8 and 9 a. m. on the lst instant, charged with stealing from his lodgings : a caah Box, containing £ 6 6s. 6d. in Gold and Silver; a single silver case English lever Watch, silver dia".; gold figures and seconds hands, Ndl .1984, with silver Guard and common Key attached ; and a new pair of elastic- side Boots, the property of J ohn Edwards: WILLIAM CROMBILL, alias CROMWELL, who stated that he came from Kidderminster, a native of Birmingham, a nail finisher, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, stout figure, light complexion and hair ; dressed in a blue pilot monkey jacket, grey striped cloth trousers and vest, black hard, bowler hat, and the stolen boots ; he came to Abercam about 3 weeks ago. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Tredegar Iron Works, Monmouthshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 8. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, charged on a warrai with embezzling the sum of £ 74 lis.: ERNEST WATHE' a clerk, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 high, light corn plexion, blotched face, slender make, and no hair on his face; dressed in a brown overcoat, ditto trousers, and high hat; he carried a brown leather portmanteau. He has rela- tives residing at Shleton, near Stoke- on- Trent. £ 5 reward will be paid by his late employer upon his apprehension, and recovery of the money, or in proportion to the amount recovered. luformation to be given at the Detective Officj Cheapside, Manchester, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 8, Absconded on 25th ultimo, from 27, High- street, Boro embezzling £ 7 19s. 8d.: a man, 29 years of age, 5 7J inches high, fair complexion and hair, blue eyeB, sai beard ; dressed in dark Chesterfield overcoat, blue diagonl undercoat, dark speckled trousers, high hat, and of smart appearance.—• Metropolitan Police, M Division, May 8. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of house- breaking between 2 and 3 p. m. on the lst instant, at Willingdon, Sussex, Polegate Steeple Chase day, from a cottage near the course : an old- fashioned silver Watch, thick case, face slightly broken round the hands, with imitation gold Guard and half Sovereign attached ; a large Brooch, gilt frame, with figure of a fish and monkey's face on the stone ; a Brooch, in a worked gilt frame, grey stone and white pebble in centre; a Brooch, with common frame, female head on the stone; a single Bracelet, with an impression of the late Empress of France on it; a pair of gold Ear- rings, with a rose on the top and a corkscrew on the bottom; and a pair of Ear- rings, pearl balls on the top and glass drops on the bottom, silver wires, one of which is broken. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; to Deputy Constable Wag- LARCENY A'Jf D EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of a man, charged with stealing £ 17 15s., from a dwelling- house in Rotherham, on the 8th instant : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches higb, fresh complexion, brown hair, sore eyes, a labourer, and last resided at the Holmes, Rotherham ; dressed in grey cloth coat, brown cloth trousers and vest, and cloth cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, West Riding Constabulary, Court House, Rotherham.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen from a lodger at the Swan with two Necks, Worcester, on the night of the 6th instant: a gold lever hunting Watcb, with ' Presented by the Agents and Work- men of the Aircastle Colliery to Mr. Edward Jones on hjs leaving the Works,' engraved on the inside of the case ; also 1 gold Albert Chain; 1 neck Chain ( lady's); 1 gold Ring with ruby ; 1 ditto with a blue stone ; 1 blue Vest; and Absconded on the 5th instant, from Bath- street, St. Luke's, stealing £ 29 15s.: a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches higb, stout, dark complexion and hair, blue eyes, clean shaved ; dressed in grey mixture jacket and vest, cord trousers, old side- spring boots, of respectable appearance, and is a foreman baker.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 8. Description of JOHN JACKSON, alias HUGH JONES, charged with stealing Fowls at Studley : 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair ( bald) and moustache, beard shaved off, bright blue eyes, and blue cut mark on forehead ; dressed in dark cloth jacket, light cloth trousers, and round black felt hat; has a respect- able appearance, is a greengrocer, and also hawks fish ; a few years ago he lived at Stoke Golding, Leicestershire, has also lived at Nuneaton, and about twelve months ago at Warwick, where he sold milk. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Thomas, Alcester, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street. May 5. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Beckbury, between 5 and 7 p. m. on the lst instant: a Sovereign, two cotton Neckerchiefs, one a light plaid, the other with magenta spots, the property of Edwin By the way. By a fellow lodger named THOMAS DAVIS, about 18 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, black hair, very small dark whiskers, and a native of Bridgnorth ; dressed in dark coat and vest, corduroy trousers, black jimcrow or hard hat, or may be wearing a brown velvet cap. He had iu his possession a pair of light grey trousers, with black stripes. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, Salop, or to Sergeant Meredith, County Constabulary Office, Shiffnal, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, May S. By THOMAS AMOR, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches, dark complexion, little dark whiskers and moustache, a little bald, has a little impediment in bis speech, and is rather splay footed ; dressed in light coat, and wore a cap. And WILLIAM AMOR, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, and fair complexion ; dressed in dark check trousers, and wore a cap. They state they are cabinet- makers, but have lately been employed by a ship- building firm at Hull, and are supposed to belong to the General Union of Carpenters and Joiners. The Btolen Watch, Chain and Locket has since been found pledged at Oxford. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Reading, Berkshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- ttreet, May 3. Description of JOHN DICKINSON STEPHEN, clerk, who is charged on a warraiit with having on the 17th ultimo embezzled £ 33 18s., the monies of Messrs. Bartte- man and Crighton, wine merchants, 10, Grey- street, New- castle- on- Tyne : from 26 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown curly hair, mous- tache, and very little whiskers, dark eyes, full round face, proportionate build ; he is of good address, and is a native of Newcastle- on- Tyne ; generally dresses in dark clothes. It is supposed that he will endeavour to get to the Continent. He leas last seen in Newcastle on the 21st ultimo, and is supposed to have gone South by the ll' 23p. m. train. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Pilgrim- street, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, Northumberland.— Bow- street, May 3. Description of ELIZABETH POWELL, alias MAY- NARD, alias FRANCIS, who absconded from Ipswich, on the 21st ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a lady's Dress, since recovered: she is about 27 years of age, dark brown hair, very short and thin ; dressed in a light brown dress, and black and red plaid shawl; she has a slight impediment in her speech, and is very nervous when spoken to, and is a native of Hadleigh, Suffolk ; she was in company with a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light hair, and a tuft of light sandy hair on the chin ; dressed in corduroy trousers, short loose drabbet slop, with large patch on back, and a black cap ; he was carrying a coarse canvas bag, is a navvy, and a native of Kent. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for her appre- hension.— Bow- street, Hay 1. has been making preperations to leave England. Information to be given to Detective Inspector, Central Police Office, Sheffield, Yorks.— Bow- street, May 5. Description of a man giving the name of FREDERICK FELOIIE^. ( Not otherwise described), Absconded from Oldbury, on the 12th ultimo, charged witti indecently assaulting a boy, at Oldbury, on the 10th instant: MATTHEW BAKER, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in cord trousers, dirty light cloth jacket and vest, blue doth overcoat, and dark cloth cap, with velvet band; he is a bricklayer's labourer, and has friends at Nuneaton ; he will probably seek employment at chemical works. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Kemp, Halesowen, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 5. Description of a tramping violin player, who is charged at Penrith, Cumberland, with having on the evening of the 29th ultimo, indecently assaulted a young woman, on the highway, and afterwards dragged' her into a field, where he attempted to violate her : he is from 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout figure, broad shoulders, dark complexion, black curly hair, dark whiskers, and dark eyes; dressed in an old blue pilot cloth short jacket, cord trousers, very dirty, black billycock hat, with broad brim, and strong beots, has the appearance of a dirty navvy ; he frequents low lodging- houses, and plays his violin, which he carries in a check bag, in public- houses ; he also carries a red- covered usic- book, and is supposed to be a discharged soldier, formation to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- street, May 3. VMUDb AIB MIEDEMEAfOUIii, Description of HENRY PHILIP HUXTABLE, alias HENRY PHILLIPS, charged on a warrant with obtaining " alse pretences, in Banbury, on the 2nd instant, the under - tioned articles of Jewellery : one 18- carat curb Albert, marked on every link, oval Seal, hall marked, blood ne and sardonyx, with chased mount on top, also on drop, pade Guinea, a Guinea, and a Half Guinea, with shield on reverse; a diamond cluster Ring, about seven brilliants ; an opal and diamond gipsy Ring, one round opal in centre, aud a brilliant on each side, massive coloured setting; an emerald and diamond gipsy Ring, one emerald and a brilliant on each side, in bright setting ; a set of 18- carat Studs and Sleeve Links, with single pearl in a star ; a massive 18- carat strap and buckle Ring, left bright; and a diamond horse- shoe Piu, brilliants set in silver, on gold back : he is about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, black hair and whiskers, turniog grey, upper lip and chin shaved, propor- tionate build ; dressed in black rouud felt hat, name inside ' Tress and Co.', blue Chesterfield cloth overcoat, with black velvet collar, blaek diagonal cloth coat and vest, grey mixture trousers ; carried a brown twill silk umbrella, with metal drop fastening oa handle, he also had iu his possession a gold English lever Watch, large size, fitted with an up and down hand, j- plate movement, maker Kuight and Son, Northamp- ton, jewelled in ten holes, chronometer balance, and Brequet pendulum spring ; he stated that he had heeu in the army, £ 5 reward will be given for such information as shall lead to his apprehension. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Preston, Town Hall, Banbury, OXOD.— Bow- st., May 10. Description of THOMAS BARTON, charged ( with others) with conspiring to defraud his employer : 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, full eyes, dark brown hair, round face, and thick set. Was formerly employed at the East London Railway Works, and Gaston New Docks, near Liverpool, well known to Messrs. Benton and Woodiwiss, railway contractors, near Manchester, and is likely to be employed on some new railway works as a timekeeper. Warrant issued. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, A Division, May 5. Description of INGRAM ESKDALE MOAT, charged on warrant with an offence under the Bankruptcy Acts : he is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, whiskers round face inclined to be sandy, stoops a little, is a very good singer; He is an oil and colour merchant. Committed for 6 weeks hard labour, for larceny, at r „ 0 Middlesborough, on the 5th instant: THOS. McDONALD, BRYAN, who obtained several sums of Money from persons | states that he is a native of Greenock, a driller, 22 years of in the neighbourhood of Mold, by falsely stating that he was age, 5 feet 4$ inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue working for Mr. Wm. Roberts, of Mold, plumber, & c., on the | eyes, and several moles on right side of neck; dressed in 5th ultimo : about 30 years rf age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark grey coat aud vest, dirty moleskin trousers, cloth close- slender build, dark hair, short black moustache, whiskers 1 fitting cap, and old laced boots. Information to be given to shaved off, and long thin face; dressed in dark clothes, and Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorkshire. wore an apron ; he is very fond of talking.
