Description of two men who assaulted and robbed Joseph Woollam of 2s. in Silver and a clasp Knife ( buckhorn haft) on the highway at Rhodes- hill, near Lees, on the 7th instant: one about 40 years of age, 5 feet t> inches high, Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; to Deputy Constable Wag- horn, Hailsham; or ataiy Police Station in East Sussex. — Bcw- street, May 5. Stolen, by means of burglary, during the night of the 26th ultimo, from the Vicarage, Bitton, Gloucestershire, tbe property of tho Rev. E. N. Ellacombe : 1 silver cream Jug, stands on three feet, dented a little on one side, crest a stag's head, and holds about half- a pint; 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, broken a little on one Bide ; 3 silrer Tea Spoons, marked either ' E. On the night of the 23th ultimo, a shoemaker's shop near Penrith, Cumberland, was broken and entered, and Biolen therein : I pair of new half water- tight pegged Boots, four eyelet holes and five holes on each side, calkerd on heels, two rows of sparables round the soles and two rows of hobnails, ia the shape of a half- moon in the middle of soles ; a piece of strong Leather, called in tbe trade ' Shoe- butt'; a piece of light Leather, called ' Slipper Top'; and a shoemaker's Kuife, about half worn, with oval handle. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field on the 24th ultimo: 10 Yearling Sheep, the near ear has a slit in length, the off ear a key notch under, aud a ruddle mark between the ears and down dark hair and complexion, and large whiskers; dressed ia the left thigh; the property of Mr. Benjamin Powell, Pres- soft black felt hat, navvy's slop and boots, and dirty cord teon, Abbeycwmhir, Radnorshire. Absconded from Abercam, near Newport, Monmouth- shire, between 8 aud 9 am. on the lst instant, charged with stealing from his lodgings : a cash Box, containing £ 6 6s. 6d, iu Gold and Silver ; a single silver case English lever Watch, silver dial, gold figures and seconds hands, No. 1984, with silver Guard and common Key attached ; and a new pair of elastic- side Boots, the property of John Edwards: WILLIAM CROMBILL, alias CROMWELL, who stated that he came from Kidderminster, a native of Birmingham, a nail finisher, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, stout figure, fight complexion and hair ; dressed in a blue pilot monkey jacket, grey striped cloth trousers aud vest, black hard bowler hat, and the stolen boots ; he came to Abercam about 3 weeks ago. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, charged on a - warrant with embezzling the sum of £ 74 lis.: ERNEST WATHEN, a clerk, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 high, light com- plexion, blotched face, elender make, and no hair on his ' face; dressed in a brown overcoat, ditto trousers, and high hat; he carried a brown leather portmanteau. He has rela- tives residing at Shleton, near Stoke- on- Trent. £ 5 reward will be paid by his late employer upon his apprehension, and recovery of the money, or iu proportion to the amount recovered. Description of WILLIAM STANSFIELD, a clerk, charged with stealing, on the 15th instant, at Blackburn: £ 8, the monies of Henry Clayton and others, his masters : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sullen appearance, blue pimples on cheek, dark curly hair, full dark beard, slight moustache, and walks with a sweeping gait; dressed in a dark mixture cloth suit, elastic- side boots, and dark hard billycock bat; keeps the company of betting men. Description of GEORGE STEADMAN, alias STEWART, who absconded from Middles! orough, on the 17ch instant, charged with stealing 14 yards of black Silk, which he pledged at Leeds, on the 18th instant, in the name of George Stewart, of the Turk's Head, Newcastle, commercial traveller : he is about 28 years of nge, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, clean shaved on chin, large light moustache, light, brown hair and whiskers, cut mark under lower lip, stout make, and is a little lame ; dressed in a dark cloth shooting coat, vest and trousers of same material, brown cloth overcoat, with velvet collar, black billycock hat, and carries a black leather bag ; he states that he is a commercial traveller, also a painter and decorator. Stolen from a dwelling- house, at Farnworth, near Bolton- le- Moors, Lancashire, between 6 and 8 am. on tlie 24th inst.: a silver lever Watch, No. 91669, makers Lickett audiCo., Norwich, had the letters ' W. O.' engraved on' the outer case, and had attached a brass Albert Guard, tied at e; • with a string; and a silver verge Watch, No. 3530, maker Mills, Ludgate H- ill, had the owner's name ' John Clark' engraved on the outside case, and had attached a long silver May 5. Description of GEORGE WHITE, a tramp, committed for 3 calendar months hard labour, to Northallerton Gaol, on the 2ud instant, for larceny : 30 years of age, 5 fest 6^ inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyas, dark hair, small brown whiskers and moustache, and thin features ; dressed in an old brown overcoat, brown cord trousers, old blucher boots,, and cloth cap. Ha states that he is a native of Newington, London, but has been recently working as a labourer at an iron ship- building yard at Yarrow, aud other places in the North. Description of JOHN STEPHENS, committed to Northallerton Gaol for seven days under the Vagrant Act on tho 4th instant : 51 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, grey hair, bald on top of head, grey eyes, sallow complexion, has lost th ® end of first finger of right hand; dressed in black cloth coat with velvet collar, no pockets outside, light stripe cloth vest, Bedford cord tronaers, blue Scotch cap with peak, plain laced boots, woollen shirt with white front, blue necktie. He states that he is an Irishman, but has worked for the last five years in Middlesboro', chiefly at the Britannia Works.
