MUEQEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, Description of PATRICK SHOVELAN, charged on a warrant at Consett, Durham, with cutting and wounding P. C. William Moore in the execution of his duty on the 17th instant: 22 years of age, 5 feet 9f inches bigb, fresh com- plexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, cut short, no whiskers, proportionate figure, large brown mole covered with hair on left side of neck near the ear ; dressed when he absconded in fustian trousers, dark vest, blue pilot cloth jacket or short black coat, black cloth cap or low- crowned black felt bat; a labourer at ironworks, aud has worked at Middlesbrough, BUmGLAMY AMD HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen, by means of burglary, during the night of the 26th ultimo, from the Vicarage, Bitton, Gloucestershire, the property of the Rev. E. N. Ellacombe 1 silver cream Jug, stands on three feet, dented a little on one side, crest a stag's head, and holds about half- a pint ; 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, broken a little on- one side; 3 silver Tea Spoons, marked either ' E. Stolen from a field in the borough of Bolton, on the 18th ultimo : a black Mare, about 13^ hands high, in very goo5 condition, has two small white marks on left side, each about one inch diameter, rather aged, aud a litt'e stiff in the hind fetlocks, £ 5 reward aud all reasonable expences will be paid for the recovery cf said mare, andconviction of the offender or offenders. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at NeHge- hill, in the parish of Shiffnal, during the night of the 23rd alt.: a bay Pony, stout made, ^. bout 13 hands high, rough coated, with scurvy legs, the property of the Rev. — Woods, of Malinslee Vicarage. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Higgins Dawley, Salop.— Bom- street, May 1. Stolen from a field at Gathorne Hall, Asby, between 6 p. m. on the 17th, and 5 a. m. on the 19th instant: two half- bred Ewes, in good condition, are due to lamb at any time within 3 weeks, they are marked with ' L.' in tar on the near side, and are red rudded OP the rump. Absconded, charged with wounding Chas. Bunn, game- keeper, on the zird ultimo, in tne parish ot Acton: HENRY MOSS, of Milford, thatcher, 22 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair, little daik whiskers, blown eyes, and dark complexion; dressed in a light coat and trousers, stained with blood, and black soft hat; walks in a slouching manner, and generally has his hands in his trousers pockets. He took tiain for Loudon cn the morning of the 21th nit,, aud has a relative at a cowkeeper's nc. tr Islington. Information to be given to Inspector Keeble, Police Station, Melfoid, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his'apprehension. — Bow- street. April 24. B. OBBJBOT AND LAEC1SWY FIDS THE PERSON. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, at Newtown, Montgomeryshire, from the person of John Bright, of Bromlow, Salop : a leather Purse, containing £ 4 in Gold, aud eleven £ 5 Notes of the North and South Wales Bank. Newtown and Oswestry, by JOHN BOWKER, alias WOWZER, aud JOSIAH BEECH, low borse dealers. Beech has been apprehended and committed for trial, Bowker is still large, and for his apprehension a warrant has been issued : he is 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, small whiskers, and bow- legged ; dressed in light coat and vest, woollen cord trousers, and jimcrow hat. He is well known to all horse dealers, he is frequently iu company with the copers, aud is known to the police at Liverpool and Nantwich. Ou the night of the 27th ultimo, NINIAN GIBBON, was violently assaulted and wounded iu the throat, between South Hylton and White Haugh, aud robbed by two men of a gold lever Watch, jewelled in 8 holes, No. 40842. gold Albert Chain, belcher pattern, and £ 2 in Gold and Silver. Stolen from the person of John Francis, on the Torquay ' Rico C" ursP, Devon, on the 18th iustaut: a medium- size . silvur lever Watch, No. 11612, makers name ' Ellis, Exeter,' marked on inside and outside cases. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Vaughan, Devon Constabulary, Torquay. - Bow- street, April 24. Stolen by means of house- breaking at Bangor, Flintshire, during the night of the 21st instant ( Bangor Steeple Chase day), from a farmhonse adjoining the course: a Cash Box, containing about £ i iu Silver and Copper ; and a pair of boy's light blucher Boots. A pair of navvy's boots, much worn, were left iu ihe place. Information to be given to Superin-' tendent Bolton, Hanmer, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, April 26. Between 4 and 5 p. m. on the 19th instant, a cottage on the Chester- road, Pery Barr, near Birmingham, was broken into, and stolen therein : an old double- case silver verge Watch, white dial, key hole in face, aud rusty steel Chain attached ; an old- fashioned black cloth Dress Coat, two out- side pockets, and one inside breast; an old double- breasted black cloth Waistcoat; a pair of black cloth Trousers, lined with brown calico, aud flap frouts, men's size ; five old brown calico Shirts, aud one cloth ditto, high collars, men's size; and a black silk Handkerchief. Information to be given to Sergeant Steele, Police Station, Handsworth, near Birming- ham, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Grath : a silver verge Watch, very large size, regulated with a key, attached is an old copper Guard, brokeu in two places, and tied together with thread, aud brass Key and Seal ( stone lost out of Seal) ; a silver verge Watch, name ' J. Hurdley' inside case, strong steel Chain and brass Key aud Seal attached ; a calico Shirt; a blue silk Handkerchief; a red silk Handker- chief ( both much worn). Supposed by a tramp, 30 to 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 or 8 inches high, long face, little or no whiskers, and light brown hair ; dressed in old drab or grey coat, cord trousers, aud of very dirt. v appearance. Stolen during the night of the 29th ultimo, from a field at Barfrestone ; an aged dark brown mare Pony, 13 handB high, fawn- colour nose, tail cut above hough, black points, his been clipped, aud had no shoes on. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Stokes, County Police Office, St. Bartholomews, Sandwich, Keut.— i'ow- ttreet, May 3. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the South Cavalry Barracks, Aldershot : a bay Mare, 15 bauds 2f inches high, white face, star on off bind leg, ' 8 H E. 38' stamped ou fore hoofs, had on a Military Saddle, and bridoon Rein. By private SAMUEL HOLLIS, 8th Hussars, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair ; dressed in blue stable uniform ; a native of Belper, Derby.— Metropolitan Police, Woolwich Dockyard Division, May 3. LAECE1TT AND ' EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from No. 3, Aubrey- terrace, Reading, on the morniDg the 26th ultimo : 1 silver lever hunting Watch, No. 8724, with gold Chain and Locket attached; I dark Overcoat; 1 white Shirt; I pair of tweed Trousers ; 1 set of gold shirt Studs ; 2 old signet Rings ; 1 large Eye- glass, in case; 1 silver Albert Chain ; 1 meerschaum Pipe ; and a silver Pencil- case. ' By THOMAS AMOR, about 30 yp- ira of age, 5 feet 9 inches, dark complexion, little dark whiskers aud moustache, a little bald, has a little impediment in his speech, and is rather splay footed ; dressed in light coat, and wore a cap. And WILLIAM AMOR, about 20 years o£ age, 5 feet 4 inches high, and fair complexion ; dressed in dark check trousers, and wore a cap. They state they are cabinet- makers, but have lately been employed by a ship- building firm at Hull, and are supposed to belong to the General Union of Carpenters and Joiners. The stolen Watcb, Chain and Locket has since been found pledged at Oxford. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Reading, Berkshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, May 3. Description of JOHN DICKINSON STEPHEN, a clerk, who is charged on a warrant with having on the 17th ultimo embezzled £ 33 18s., the monies of Messrs. Bartte- man and Crighton, wine merchants, 10, Grey- street, New- castle- on- Tyne: from 26 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown curly hair, mous- tache, and very little whiskers, dark eyes, full lound face, proportionate build ; he is of go^ d address, and is a native of Newcastle- on- Tyne ; generally dresses iu dark clothes. It is supposed that he will endeavour to get to the Continent. He was last seen in Newcastle on the 2lst ultimo, and is supposed to have gone South by the 11 23 p. m. train. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Pilgrim- street, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, Northumberland.— Bovi- street, May 3. Description of ELIZABETH POWELL, alias MAY- NARD, alias FRANCIS, who absconded from Ipswich, on the 21st ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a lady's Dress, since recovered: she is about 27 years of age, dark brown hair, very short and thin ; dressed in a light brown dress, and black and red plaid shawl; she has a slight impediment in her speech, and is very nervous when spoken to, and is a native of Hadleigh, Suffolk ; she was in company with a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light hair, and a tuft of li^ ht sandy hair on the chin ; dressed in corduroy trousers, short loose drabbet slop, with large patch on back, and a black cap ; he was carrying a coarse canvas bag, is a navvy, and a native of Kent. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for her appre- hension.— Bow- street, May 1. Description of WILLIAM STANSFIELD, a clerk, charged with stealing, on the 15th instant, at Blackburn: £ 8, the monies of Henry Clayton and others, his masters : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sullen appearance, blue pimples on cheek, dark curly hair, full dark beard, slight moustache, and walks with a sweeping gait; dressed in a dark mixture cloth suit, elastic- side boots, and dark hard billycock hat ; keeps the company of betting men. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Blackburn, Lancashire. — Bow- street, April 28, Absconded on the 31st ult., charged on a warrant with stealing £ 102, and embezzling £ 18 6s. 8d. : CHARLES EVANS, a cleik, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, very dark complexion, black hair, small black whiskers and mous- tache, one of the front tipper teeth decayed ; dressed in dark surtout coat, oark vest aud trousers, silk hat with mourniug baud. £ 20 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Iufor- mation to be given to Superintendent Kehoe, Central Police Office, Liverpool.— Boil- street, April 28, Description of GEORGE STEADMAN, alias' STEWART, who absconded from Middlesborough, on the 17th instant, charged with stealing 14 yards of black Silk, which he pledged at Leeds,- on the 18th instant, in the name of George Stewart, of the Turk's Head, Newcastle, commercial traveller : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches higb, fresh completion, clean shaved on chin, large light moustache, light brown hair and whiskers, cut mark uuder lower lip, Stout make, and is a little lame ; dressed in a dark cloth shooting coat, vest and trousers of same material, brown cloth overcoat, with velvet collar, black billycock hat, and carries a black leather bag ; he states that he is a commercial traveller, also a painter and decorator. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, York- shire.— Bow- street, Avril 28. Stolen from a dwelling- house, at Farnworth, near Bolton- le- Moors, Lancashire, between 6 and 8 a m. on the 24th inst.: a silver lever Watch, No. 91669, makers Lickett and^ Co., Norwich, had the letters ' W. O.' engraved on the outer case, and had attached a brass Albert Guard, tied at each end with a string ; and a silver verge Watch, No. 353Q, maker Mills, Ludgate Hill, had the owner's name ' John Clark' engraved on the outside case, and had attached a long silver curb twisted Guard. By a young man who had lodged in the house a few nights, and absconded on the morning of the robbery : he is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in a dark mixture cloth shotting coat, witney cloth vest, buttons up to throat, dark cloth trousers, and elastic- side boots ; he is a tailor, stated he came from Manchester, and had been oh tramp. Information to be given to Super- intendent Holland, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bouc- street, April 28. Absconded on the 22nd February last, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of money received on account of his master, Mr. J. B. Motley, meat- salesman, No. 14 A Avenue; London Central Meat Market: JOHN JAMES MILDRED, a clerk, lateof 9, Mossell- rd„ Finsbury- park, 22| years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair ( thin), slight moustache and whiskers, sallow complexion, thin face, usually wears spectacles, and of mean appearance. £ 20 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the accused. Description of WALTER BEVAN, a clerk, charged on a warrant with embezzling moneys, the property of the Great Western Railway : he is 23 vears of age, but looks younger, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair hair, fresh complexion, slight moustache, rather full in the mouth ; dressed in a dark grey plaid suit, blue overcoat, a.. d black bowler hat; he absconded c> n the I7th instant, and intended to leave the country, or may enlist; he was formerly station master at Lydney, Gloucestershire. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Newport, Monmouthshire.— Bow street, April 26, Absconded on the 15th instant, from Cardiff, charged with forgery, and embezzling £ 36 the moneys of his masters : WILLIAM STRANGWARD, a traveller to -.>. firm of ironmongers, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches, high, rather stout built, fresh complexion, cheeks shaved, light moustache, and tuft of hair on chin; generally dressed in light clothes, and hard black bowler hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Bond, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- ttreet, April 26. Lydia Chapman, otherwise Porter, lately residing at No. 46, Maude- grove, Chelsea, was on the 13th instant found dead, supposed poisoned, and the undermentioned articles were found to be missing : two 20- dollar Pieces, gold; a gold Necklace, thick link pattern, pale triangular amber pendant, gold fringe ; a lady's gold hunting Watch, engine- turned, gold double- linked Neck Chain attached ; a wedding Ring ; a half- hoop Ring, three small diamonds set in gold ; a plain gold Ring, diamond in centre ; a large coral Brooch ; a pair of gold Ear- drops, set with small diamonds ; and about £ 200, ( supposed in Sovereigns). WILLIAM and LOUISE WALLACE, were lodgers in the house, and left suddenly, and a warrant has been issued for their apprehension, on the charge of stealing the articles named : WILLIAM WALLACE, otherwise HOWARD ADAMS, alias JOHN HOWE, alias THE DUTCHMAN, 32 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, aud whiskers, shaved under chin, slight black moustache, brown eyes, has lost first aud second fingers of left hand, up to second joint; dressed in dark frock coat, vest, and trousers, ulster overcoat, badly fitting, and felt hat ; he has resided for a considerable period in America, and 15 months ago escaped from gaol at Constantinople, where he was under- going imprisonment, on a charge of forgery. LOUISE WALLACE, 37 years of age, short, very dark hair, squiuts, wears spectacles, French by birth, but speaks English fluently. They were last seen in London, on the 18th instaut, had with them a large box, of American make, and a Gladstone bag. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, London, S. W., or at any Metropolitan Police Station.— Metropolitan Police, April 24. Description of GEORGE GRAYLAND, who is charged with having embezzled various sums of Money, belonging to Mr. John Henry Solomon, of King- street, Maidstone, butcher : about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, and slightly built. He absconded on the 21st instant, from Maidstone, and is supposed to have gone to London to seek employment, he having worked for butchers there previously, or he may seek similar employ- ment iu one of the towns in the adjoining counties. Infor- mation to be given to the Chief Superintendent of Police, Borough Police, Maidstone, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 24. Description of BENJAMIN HARTNETT, charged at Newcastle- upon- Tyne with stealing a Sewing Machine with which he was entrusted : about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout made rather corpulent, fresh complexion, no whiskers, dark hair, speaks with a foreign accent, described himself as a tailor; he was dressed in black frock coat, double-, breasted black vest, open front, white shirt, blue tie, black silk hat. Was seen in Liverpool on the 18th instant, and it is supposed that he is about to leave the country. Iuformation to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 24. Absconded from Shrewsbury, on the 20th instant, charged with stealing a gold Albert Guard, secret links, with plain gold Locket attaehed, and a Sovereign: JAMES DAVIES, a native of Shrewsbury, has worked in waggon departments. on railways, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh com- plexion, and rather long thin face; dressed in short rough blue overcoat, dark trousers, and hard black billycock hat, Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, April 24. Stolen from the ' Three Crowns,' Bridge- gate, Derby, on 12th instant: £ 30; also two dress Skirts, one blue the eyes, fresh complexion, and dark brown hair; dressed in a dark grey waterproof cloak, brown dress, and black bonnet. Information to be given to Superintendent Mathews, City Police Station, Salisbury, Wilts .- Bow- street, May 3, Absconded on the 2nd instant, from the Woodbury Hill Reformatory, Shelsey, near Worcester : JOSEPH NEED, a native of Petsbore, 14 years of age, 4 feet 6 in; hes high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, bhie French merino ( with deeji^ kilting round the bottom), the j eyes, two moles on corner of eyebrow, cut on inside thick part other dark brown French poplin ( trimmed with light brown); of right thumb, three round scars on right knee, one under- 41... ... By ROsE BEAU, alias HILL, 16 years of age, stout and tall for her age, light brown hair, fresh complexion, round face, and very reserved in her manner ; she is a native of Mansfield Wood- house, Notts, where her parents reside. In December last she was living at Radford, near Nottingham, in service, where she committed a larceny and absconded.
