Notice.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, -> I the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the • advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Stolen between the 15th and ] 6th instant, from the per- son of James Bracken Richardson, at Barrow- in- Furness : a wash leather Purse, containing £ 20 in Gold,— 16 £ 5 Notes of the Craven Bank, 3 £ 5 Notes of the Bradford Bank, and 1 £ 5 Bank of England Note. Information to be given to Superintendent Barker, Police Station, Barrow, Lancaster- shire.— Bow- street, April 18. MURDER AID MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of PATRICK SHOVELAN, charged on a warrant at Consett, Durham, with cutting and wounding P. C. William Moore in the execution of his duty on the 17th instant: 22 years of age, 5 feet 9| inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, cut short, no whiskers, proportionate figure, large brown mole covered with hair on left side of neck near the ear ; dressed when he absconded in fustiaa trousers, dark vest, blue pilot cloth jacket or short black coat, black cloth cap or low- crowned black felt hat; a labourer at ironworks, and has worked at Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Stockton, Darlington, Jarrow, Workington, and Barrow- on- Furness. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Oliver, Consett, Durham.— Bm- street, April 24. Absconded, charged with wounding Chas. Bunn, game- keeper, on the 23rd ultimo, in the parish of Acton: HENRY . MOSS, of Milford, thatcher, 22 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, little dark whiskers, brown eyes, and dark complexion; dressed in a light coat and trousers, stained with blood, and black soft hat; walks in a slouching manner, and generally has his hands iu his trousers pockets. He took train for London cn the morning of the 21th ult., and has a relative at a cowkeeper's near Islington. Information to be given to Inspector Keeble, Police Station, Melford, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, April 24. Description of GEORGINA STANIER, alias WHIT, TINGHAM, who absconded from East Vale, near Longton on the morning of the 10th instant, charged with murdering her female infant child, on the 9th February last : 22 or 23 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches higb, fair complexion, rather thin features, light auburn hair brushed off forehead ; dressed in black crape bonnet, black dress with one flounce, old faded paisley shawl, leather boots with elastic sides. A warrant is issued for her apprehension. A reward of £ 50 i3 offered by Her Majesty's Government for the conviction of the murderer or murderers. See Police Gazette of the 13th March and following dates. Information to be given to Superin- tendent McWilliams, Police Station, Longton, Staffordshire, or at any other Police Station in the county.— Bow- st., April 18. BURGLARY AND HOUSE _ BEEAEIN G. On the 16th instant, a cottage near Abergavenny was broken into, and the following property of John Holland stolen therein: a pair of new dark brown tweed Trousers, full fronts, ' Tedman' on buttons; a new double- breasted Waistcoat of the same pattern ; a brown double- breasted Jacket, pockets outside about half worn out; a pair of light- coloured Trousers ; a grey Shirt; a new blue bundle Hand- kerchief ; and £ 3 in Money. Suspicion is attached to a tramp about 35 years of age, with sandy moustache and whiskers, and supposed to be dressed in the stolen clothes and cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Free- man, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, April 21. Between 10 a. m. and 6 p. m, on the 17th iustant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Buckmaster, Twydell, farmer, at Moore End Farm, in the pariah of Bovingdon, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a gold Albert Chain, with Locket ( hair inside), Seal, and gold 7s. Piece ; a gold Ring, set with red stones ; a gold Ring, with plaited ha'r all round, ' M. A. H.' engraved on it; a gold Riug, with small diamond, six pearls set round it and four turquoise stones ; a gold Breast Pin, with rings twisted for top ; a silver Watch, gilt figures,' J. B. T.' scratched inside the case ; a silver Albert Chain, with Pencil, chain pattern ; a 2 chamber breech- loading Pistol, steel plated and figured. Information to be given to Superintendent Isgate, Hemel Hempstead, Herts I — Bow- street, April 21, ulster overcoat, badly fitting, and felt hat ; he has resided for a considerable period in America, and 15 months ago escaped from gaol at Constantinople, where he was under- going imprisonment, on a charge of forgery. LOUISE WALLACE, 37 years of age, short, very dark hair, squints, wears spectacles, French by birth, but speaks English fluently. They were last seen in London, on the 18th instaut, had with them a large box, of American make, and a Gladstone bag. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, London, S. W., or at any Metropolitan Police Station.— Metropolitan Police, April 24, Description of GEORGE GRAYLAND, who is charged with having ' embezzled various sums of Money, belouging to Mr. John Henry Solomon, of King- street, Maidstone, butcher: . about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, and slightly built, lie absconded on the 21st instant, from Maidstone, and is supposed to have gone to London to seek employment, he having worked for butchers there previously, or he may seek similar employ- ment in one of the towns in the adjoining counties. Infor- mation to be givpn to the Chief Superintendent of Police, Borough Police, Maidstone, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 24. • Description of BENJAMIN HARTNETT, charged at Newcastle- upon- Tyne with stealing a Sewing Machine with which he was entrusted : about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout made rather corpulent, fresh complexion, no whiskers, dark hair, speaks with a foreign accent, described himself as a tailor ; he was dressed in black frock coat, double- breasted black vest, open front, white shirt, blue tie, black silk hat. Was seen in Liverpool on the 18th instant, and it is supposed that he is about to leave the country. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, who'holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 24. Absoonded from Shrewsbury, on the 20th instant, charged with stealing a gold Albert Guard, secret links, with plaiu gold Locket attaehed, and a Sovereign : JAMES DAVIES, a native of Shrewsbury, has worked in waggon departments on railways, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh com- plexion, aud rather long thiu face; dressed in short rough blue overcoat, dark trousers, and hard black billycock hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bom- street, April 24. Stolen from the ' Three Crowns,' Bridge- gate, Derby the 12th instant: £ 30; also two dress Skirts, one French merino ( with deep kilting round the bottom) other dark brown French poplin ( trimmed with light br the property of Franci- Flower, the landlord. By On the 15th instant, the Postal Telegraph Office at BEAU, alias HILL, 16 years of age, stout and tall f Gloucester Docks, was broken and entered, and stolen age, light brown bair, freah complexion, round face, and therein : £ 1 7s. in Silver and 4a. 7d. in Copper. : reserved in her manner ; she is a native of Mansfield W On the same afternoon, the warehouse of Mr. John Ware, hoU3e) Notts, where her parents reside. Iu December 1. currier, of London- road, Gloucester, was broken and entered, Bhe WH3 living at Radford, near Nottingham, iu service, whe aud about £ I worth of Receipt and Postage Stamps, and 4d. 8he committed a larceny and absconded. She general in Copper, stolen therein. 1 ... .... Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Police Office, Gloucester.—- Bom- street, April 18. FORGERY. Description of JOHN MILLS, late clerk to Mr. Moss, contractor, of Stafford, who is charged with forging and uttering on the 2' at February last a cheque for £ 68 9s. 7d. : he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, black hair, blue eyes, slight black whiskers and moustache; dressed in a suit black clothes, elastic side boots, black billycock hat; • wears a gold ring on little finger left hand. He was last seen at Lichfield on the 21st or 22nd February last, and is supposed to have since enlisted in some Cavalry Regiment Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Api- il 21. MOMMB MB CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 4th instant from a field at West Dulwich : a black Pony, marked ' A.' on the off hip. Two guineas reward will be paid on recovery of the pony and apprehension of the offender or offenders.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, April 24. Further description of one of the men charged with stealing a Horse and Harness from BiUtoa, ou the llth ultimo, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 15th ultimo ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of John Francis, on the Torquay Race Course, Devon, on the 18th instant: a medium- size silver lever Watch, No. 11612, makers name ' Ellis, Exeter,' marked on inside and outside cases. Information to be given to Superintendent Yaughan, Devon Constabulary, Torquay. — Bow- street, April 24. Stolen from the person at Lichfield Races, on the 20tli instant: a silver lever Watch, open- face, jewelled in 4 holes, No. 1745. Information to be given to Sergeant Hammond, Police Station, Shenatone, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., April 24. Stolen from the person during Durham Races on the 17th and 18th instant: 1 gold lever Watch, flowered on back, No. 2157. 1 ditto ditto large size, No. 13350, maker Wine- burgh, North Shields; a gold Albert ( curb pattern) j states that fhe has no parents ; dressed in a brown wi I dress, imitation brown sealskin jacket, and brown turned up at the sides ; had a lady's satchel in he: Information to be given to Head Constable Hil who holds a warrant for her apprehension. April 24. Stolen from the house of E. G. Davies, ChurehstOKe, during tbe night of the 9t. h instant; a pair of thin lace- up Boots, toe- capped, and brass eyelet- holes, middle size, recently soled. By a man who had been lodging in tbe house and gave the name of RICHARD DETHRIDGE, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light brown hair, dark com- plexion^ boil marks on back of neck ; he says he ia a brick - maker, and has worked in the neighbourhood of Wrexham ; the person who sold the Horse is described as about 40 years ] dressed iu a brown cloth coat, new cotton cord trousers, of age, middle size, wore a tuft of sandy hair on chin, blind | trimmed with white bone buttons, and sewn on with brown of right eye ; dressed in a suit of old black clothes, aud ! hemp, new blue aud white striped cottoa shirt, marked on wearsclogs. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent ! the collar ' P/ G.', a cap, and the stolen boots. Information McCrea, Police Office, Bilstou, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, ! to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to April 18. ! P. C. Lewis, Churchatoke, Montgomeryshire, who holds a | warrant for his apprehension. - Bow- street, April 21. Stolen from a dwelling house in Middlesbrough, on the 17t. h instant: 14 yards black Silk, with yellow border. By a mau about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout made, fresh complexion, walks rather lame on one leg, chin shaved, large light- coloured moustache, light brown hair, has a cut mark under lower lip ; dressed in a dark cloth shooting coat, vest, and trousers, brown cloth topcoat with velvet collar, billycock hat ; carries a black leather bag, and stated he was a painter and decorator. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesbrough, Yorks.— Bm street, Apnl 19. Description of WILLIAM PARKHOUSE, a trampiug labourer, a native of Uffculme, Devon, who is charged with stealing, on the 10th instant, a quantity of wearing Apparel, recovered, at Moorhays Farm, in the parish of Burlescombe, Devon : he is 36 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, eyes sunk back iu head, supposed to be slightly marked with small- pox, and has a slight impediment in his speech; dressed when seen at Taunton, on the llth instant, where hes old the stolen property, in old grey cloth jacket, much worn, dirty LARCENY AND EMBEZZXEMEJTC. Lydia Chapman, otherwise Porter, lately residing at No. 46, Maude- grove, Chelsea, was on the 13th instant found dead, supposed poisoned, and the undermentioned articles were found to he missing : two 20- dollar Pieces, gold; a gold Necklace, thick link pattern, pale triangular amber pendant, gold fringe ; a lady's gold hunting Watch, engine- turned, gold double- linked Neck Chain attached ; a wedding Ring ; a half- hoop Ring, three small diamonds set in gold ; a plain gold Ring, diamond in centre ; a large coral Brooch ; a pair of gold Ear- drops, set with small diamonds ; and about £ 200, ( supposed in Sovereigns). WILLIAM and LOUISE WALLACE, were lodgers in the bouse, and left suddenly, and a warrart has been issued for their apprehension, on the charge of stealing the articles named : WILLIAM WALLACE, otherwise HOWARD ADAMS, alias JOHN HOWE, alias THE DUTCHMAN, 32 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, aud whiskers, shaved under chin, slight black moustache, brown eyes, has lost first and second fingers of left hand, up to second joint; dressed in dark froc\ coat, vest, and treusars, • white slop, fustian trousers and vest, a large white handker- chief tied round his neck, blaek billjcock hat, with the crown broken down in tho centre, and a small red feather stuck inside the band, and lace- up boots, with very small nails ; he had a small brass ring on the little finger of his riaht hand ; he stated that he was going to tramp to Bradford, Yorkshire, and is likely to be found seeking relief for the night in workhouses, or may be found sleeping in out- houses. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Collins, Devon Con- stabulary, Cuilompton, Devon, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 19. Charged with stealing in the parish of Southill, on the 6th instant, a Vest, since found pawned at Hitchin : a tramp about 60 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, hair turning grey, and beard about three weeks' growth dressed in an old high beaver hat, dark coat, vest, and trousers, much worn. He was traced to a lodging- house at Hertford, where he slept on the night of the 9th instant, and left next morning. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Bedlow, Police Station, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. - Bow- street, April 18. Description of WILLIAM alias SOLOMAN SIZER, charged on a warrant with stealing a gold albert Guard, a silver Watch, and other articles, the property of the North Eastern Railway Company, his masters, on the 9th December last: 28 years ot age, 5 feet 7 inches high, small red whiskers, strong moustache, nearly bald headed. He has a relative at Walthamstow, and three years ago he lived in Hare- street, Bethnal- green. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, York.— Bow- street, April 18. Stolen from Middlesbrough on the 15th instant, a silver lever Watch, engraved on inner case ' John McCabe,' maker ' J. Broadie, Middlesborough,' with a long silver curb Guard attached. By a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair inclined to be curly, no whiskers, and small light moustache ; dressed in a short grey coat, dark brown trousers, old black velvet cap, and old loots, all very dirty ; he speaks the Sunderland dialect. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Mid- dlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 18. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Carlisle, on the 15th inst. : a black cloth Coat ( recovered); a black worsted Coat, ditto ; two Vests, same material, one of which has been re- covered ; a small checked woollen Coat, with light buttons ; a white cotton Shirt with linen breast, marked ' T. Stordy'; a pair of wool stockings marked ' T. S.'; a gold breast Pin with green stone ; a pair of water- tight Shooting Boots ; and a pair of black Trousers ( recovered) : by a man who was seen wearing the unrecovered articles, 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, fair hair, whiskers, and complexion, and broken nose. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hemingway, Carlisle.— Bow- street, April 18. FELOKIES- ( Not otherwise described). Absconded from Llettyrafel, near Neath, on the 16th instant, charged ( on a warrant) with rape : DUNCAN McDERMID, a native of Blair Alhol, Scotland, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, long thin features, large nose, wide nostrils, very small head, hair cut short, and parted in the middle, small light tuft of hair on the chin, very small whiskers, and large feet; speaks with a strong Scotch accent, and has a slig" impediment; dressed in a new dark small plaid grey suit, and a round bowler hat. Absconded, charged with obtaining money and goods by 1 pretences from merchants in Portobello, near Edinburgh, ndeiing Cheques on the Commercial Bank of Scotland, he had no funds : THOMAS HUNTER ( name sup- to be fictitious) a German, about 30 years of age, 4 inches high, and dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in top coat, dark cloth trousers, and low felt hat. He ccompanied by a woman about 30 yews of age, and a man similar appearance to himself. Information to be given hief Constable List, County Buildings,' Edinburgh, who a warrant for the apprehension of Hunter.— Bow- street, • il 21. ed at Tregaron, Cardiganshire, until the 25th • ged with housebreaking at Bronmwyn Caron on ultimo: THOMAS LLEWELLYN, a tramp, 24 age, 5 feet inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, no whiskers, slight moustache, has seven very small blue spots on left side of face, and one ditto on back of left hand ; dressed in old check linen jacket, hairy scull cap, and cord trousers. He s? ys he has been a collier, and was born at Pontypryn, Penderyn, Breconshire. Pie was accompanied by a slightly- made woman about 4 feet 10 inches high ; dressed very cleanly but shabbily. JOHN NELSON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th instant, charged with stealing a Boat and Gear at Rye Harbour, who escaped from custody, has been re- apprehended and committed for trial at Lewes.— Bow- street, April 24. Remanded, to Montgomery Gaol until the 27 th instant, charged - with larceny : a woman who gives the name of MARTHA JONES, says she is a native of St. David's, Pembrokeshire, she is 30 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, brown complexion, several small cut marks on forehead, dark eyes, and dark brown hair. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 24. Description of ERANCIS RICKETS NELSON, com- mitted to take his trial at the next Monmouth Quarter Sessions, on a charge of larceny : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, still' build, square shoulders, freah complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, a labourer, born in Guinea- street, Bristol, belongs to the 2nd Somerset Militia, and it is supposed that he has been to sea, has two flags crossed, a crown, and the letters ' P. N.' on right forearm. Informa- tion to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, or to Superintendent Mcintosh, Monmouthshire Constabu- lary, Pontypool, or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabu- lary, Newport, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street. April 24 Remanded to Usk Gaol until the 29 th instant, charged with uttering counterfeit coin : SIMON TWIGG ( name supposed to be fictitious), 32 yrs. of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion light brown hair, hazel eyes, small light moustache, very thin sandy tuft on chin, scar over right eyebrow, right leg shorter than the left one, caused, he says, by an accident in a coal pit at Llwynypia about four years ago ; was) born at Sutton Benger, Wiltshire, and left there 18 years ago/, dressed in dark mix- ture cloth jacket, moleskin veBt,' nearly new, and buttons up to the throat, cord trousers, lace- up bodts with brass eyelets, black bowler hat, plaid shirt, red elastic braces, and coloured muffler. And ALFRED ROWE ( name supposed to be fictitious), 33 years of age, 5 feet 5| inches high, stout figure, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, two scars from smallpox on forehead ; dressed in a dark twili double- breasted jacket, a blue serge jacket underneath, grey waistcoat with black striped light woollen cord trousers, striped flannel shirt, blaek necktie, and soft black bowler hat. He says he was bom at Biikenhead, that he has been to sea as a fireman on board steamers, but is now a licensed hawker, and resides at Bute- lane, Bute- town, Cardiff, between the church and Maria- street. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, or to Superintendent McIntosh, Monmouth- shire Constabulary, Pontypool, or - to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary, Newport, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, April 24. Description of JAMES HANLEY, an Irish labourer, committed on the 22nd instant, for trial, at the next North Riding Quarter Sessions, at Northallerton, on a charge of larceny: he is 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, cut short, rather broad features, and face freckled ; dressed in a dark grey jacket and vest, black, browu, and grey checked trousers, scarlet woollen muffler, Scotch cap, with peak, and old elastic- side boots ; lie states that he is a native of Frances- street, Galway, left there in February last, and has been at Liverpool, North and South Shields. Sunderland, Old and West Hartlepool, North and South Stockton, Middlesboro', and Guisborough. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Ryder, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, April 24. FREDERICK HARPER, stonemason, 27 years of age, 5 feet 2 J inches high, grey eyes, brown hair, fresh complexion, scar on forehead and on left of nose, anchor and a pair of shoes tattooed on left arm. Convicted of larceny at Mar Chester on the 7th May, 1874, and sentenced to 12 months and 7 years supervision. WILLIAM HENRY MARTIN, 29 years of age, 5ft. 4 inches high, blue eyes, brown hair, fresh complexion, a shoe- maker, cut on left arm, moles on each arm aud right breast. Convicted at Preston of larceny, and sentenced to 18 months and 7 years' supervision on the 8th April, 1874. GEORGE ROYLE, 45 years of age, 5 feet 5| inches high, brown eyes and hair, fresh complexion, nose slightly crooked, dot and moles on right arm, top of left little finger crooked. Convicted of larceny at Manchester on the 9th March, 1874, and sentenced to 12 months and 7 years supervision.
