The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other mark* of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must toe prepaid, otherwise tie insertion will not be made. INFORMATIONS MURDER AM MALICIOUSLY WOTOBIIG Charged on a warrant with having on the afternoon of the let instant, murdered ( by stabbing) his mother- in- law, Margaret Goldie or Sloan, at 608, Gallowgate, Glasgow, also with having, at same time and place, assaulted and stabbed, to the danger of life, his wife, Margaret Sloan or Barr : THOMAS BARR, a book canvasser, a native of Glasgow, from 36 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, broad face, high cheek bones, nose flat at bridge, wide nostrils, dark swarthy complexion, black curly hair, of medium length, full 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, and has a small moustache ; he is accompanied by a woman, rather short and much pockmarked, and with turned- up nose, wearing a dark shawl and bonnet; she is fond of smoking. Information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, County Police, Leominster, Herefordshire.— Bvw- slreet, March 10. Between 11 p. m. and 5 a. m. on the night of the 4th inst., some persons wilfully set tire to a hay stack at Hoyland Common, near Barnsley. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as wiil lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the person of a gentleman while being violently assaulted by several soldiers and civilians on the highway, near Preston, on the night of the 5th instant : a gold lever Watch with gold dial, has an inscription on inside case ' Presented to Sergeant- Major Wills, of the Darlington Volunteers', and had a gold Guard attached, to which was suspended a gold Locket, with Photograph of a Lady inside, and a small brass Boot; a gold finger Bing, set with blue stones; about £ 5 in Gold, aud some Silver and Copper. Information to be given to Superintendent Webb, Garstang, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 13. Stolen from the person with violence, at Miles Platting' at 9 p. m. 5th instant : a gold lever Watch, flowered case, gold dial and fingers, second hands, No. 33515,' S. H.' engraved short monkey jacket, striped woollen trousers and vest, blue striped woollen shirt, and glengary cap. The above men have been apprehended. The third man, who made his escape, is about 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, very dark complexion, and promi- nent nose; dressed in dark ulster coat with band, square top deer stalker hat, and light mixed trousers. Information to be given to Chief Constable Berry, Town Hall, Gravesend, Kent.— Bow- street, March 10. Charged with housebreaking arid stealing £ 10 in Gold at Wirswall on the 18th ultimo : JANE WALL alias ETHEL JANE BEBTHA BLANEY, alias JANE JONES, alias BEVANS, alias ELIZA, alias LIZZY, a prostitute ; she is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh com- plexion, stout figure, dark brown hair, very red face, coarse- looking, thick lips, stoops a little, and of slovenly gait ; dressed in dark brown dress, black shawl and black hat, ttirned up at side with a small puce feather ; is a native of Shrewsbury and formerly a farm servant. Her photograph can be forwarded. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Saxton, County Police Station, Nantwich, Cheshire. — Bow- street, March 10. Stolen by means of house- breaking between 11 a. m. and 2 p. m. on the lst instant, the property of Mr. Evan Hicks, Pont Hill, Bitton : an open face silver lever Watch, No. 31496, the winding chain of the watch broken, no makers name on it. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, or to Sergeant Morley, Police Station, Oldland Common, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 8. The house of Mr. George Prentley was broken into on the 2nd instant, between 1 and 3 30 p. m., and stolen therein : a pair of black cloth Trousers, lined with white calico ; a pair inside outer case, and inside the inner case is scratched! of grey check Trousers, with washleather pockets; a Dress- 311 | J. He was an engineer, but for some time past has been hawking books aud stationery through- out the country. The dead Body of a newly- born female Child was found in an entry at Railway Terrace West, at East Vale, near Longton, on the morning of the 9th ultimo. Description of a man who was seen about the house : 28 cr 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair, slight moustache, and dressed in a dark coat, rather dirty and shabby, dark vest, brown fustian or cord trousers, and dirty black hard billycock hat. He was seen going in the direction of Uttoxeter with the stolen carpet bag and a bundle. Barton- under- Needwood, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, March 6. murdereis, and the Secretary of State for the Home Depart- ment will advise the grant of Her Majesty gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall . give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given at any Police Station in the county of Stafford.— Bow- street, March 10. About 3 a„ m. on the " 15th January last, three men, HOKS£ AND CASTLE STEALING. Stolen from a yard at Old Wood Barn Farm, lngatestone, on the night of the 21st instant: a chestnut cart Mare, 10 years old, 17 hands high, a white blaze down the forehead, hind legs white half way up to the hocks, long mane and tail, and ia good condition ; the property of Mr. Stephen Foreman, farmer, Ingatestone, who will give £ 30 reward for such information as shall lead to the recovery of the mare and the conviction of the offender or offenders. During the night of the 9th instant, the small ware shop belonging to Mr. Marsden, . of Altrincham, was broken and entered and stolen therein : 36 yards of Needlework ; half- a- dozen lisle thread white Hose ; 12 dozen plain and spotted Windsor ; half- a- dozen grey merino Hose ; half- a- dozen while having there faces blackened, and armed with guns, were f- jtto ; 6 Pairs o^^ bs drawers; 3 Chemises; a night detected night poaching in the game preserves of Sir. J. R. Bailey, to any person who shall give such j the Police Gazette of the 9th ultimo, and the housebreaking information and evidence, as shall lead to the discovery and at Burfield, Clun, Salop, advertised in the Police Gazette of conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary ! the 8th instant: in the former case the hand Saw, the tenon of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Saw, and the Tool Basket ; and in the latter, the Jacket, Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any person implicated in j Vest, and Handkerchief are recovered, the offender is still at this offence, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Any person who will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the person or persons who caused the destruction, by fire, of tw'o barns, situate at Waresley- green, Hartlebury, Worcestershire, in the occupation of Mr.' john Harris, on the nights of the 9th and 10th instant, shall receive £ 50 reward from Messrs. Harward, Shepherd, and Mills, Solicitors, Stourbridge. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Raby, Great Witley, or to Sergeant Ganderton, Stour- port, Woi ecstershire.— Bow- street, March 13. Description of a tramping sweep, charged with setting fire to a farm building, the property of Mr. John Baker, of Bodenham, Herefordshire, on the 6th instant: he is al » out large. He is a returned convict named JOHN PRICE, alias JACK THE TEMPLE, 55 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, and sandy whiskers ; he is a tramp, begs at farm houses, and sleeps in out- buildings. ' 5 Description of three men who burglariously entered the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Randall, No. 8, Park- place, Gravesend, between 12 and 1 a. m., nn the 7th instant: GEORGE BROWN, 46 years of age, 5 feet 2- J inches high, fair complexion, auburn hair, gr « y eyes, bald on top of head, tuft of hair on chin ( sandy), small moustache, and whiskers shaved off; dressed in black short monkey jacket, black cloth vest, hard hat, and scar on shin bone. THOMAS SMITH, 32 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, slight light moustache, whiskers shaved off, gold wires in his ear;;, a female with cap in hand tattooed on right arm, a schooner on right hand, shamrock, LARCENY AID JESMEHMlliMlM. Stolen from a Temperance Hotel in Bolton, on the morning of the 10th instant : a pair of ejastic- side Boots; two pairs of lace- up Boots, with brass eyelet holes, nearly new ; and a brown cloth Overcoat, brown velvet collar, lined with black Italian cloth, and marked ' J. Walker, Fishergate, Preston' By a man, who lodged at the hotel one night: about 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender make, long thin face, dark complexion, and small whiskers and moustache; dressed in a brown reefer jacket, dark vest bound with braid, fustian trousers rather dirty, mixture cloth cap with a hook in front, and strong blucber shoes ; bad the appearance of a mechanic. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- street, March 13. Description of JAMES GREENWOOD, a canvasser for advertisements for newspapers, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slender, fair complexion, small face, small piercing eyes, dark brown bair, whiskers, and moustache, jaunty style, and quick in conversation ; dressed in black frock coat ( generally buttoned very close), waistcoat, and trousers. It is sup- posed that he went to London on the 3rd inst., accompanied by his wife, who is tall, fair complexion, and thin; also two boys, aged 14 and 6 years. ' rose and thistle on left forearm and back of band ; dressed in j street, March 10, Charged with the theft of a Piccolo, at Langholm, on the 7th ultimo : JOHN ROYAL, cooper, 40 years of age, 6 feet high, dark hair, swarthy complexion, long face, dark eyes, moustache, and billygoat whiskers ; dressed in brown velvet coat, green and blue' tartan vest, white moleskin trousers, blucher boots, and black soft felt hat. He is slightly pock- pitted, and has t- W appearance cf being hunchbacked. The Piccolo is of blacK cocoa wood, in two pieces, silver mounted, four keys in E flat, aud has the makers' name ' Hawks and Co., London,' stamped on wood. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Dumfrieshire, Dumfries, — Box Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from a dwelling- house at. Oldham : one gold Ring, set with a diamond; one gold Ring, set with a garnet; one gold Trench Ring ; and one light colored mackintosh Overcoat. By JAMES HENRY CHADWICK, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, auburn hair, sunken eyes, and long dark sandy beard ; dressed in a black rep cloth coat and vest, light grey trousers, lace- up boots, very broad soles much worn, black and green speckled scarf, and black billycock hat. He served an apprenticeship to a grocer in Stretford- road, Manchester, and has resided in Dewsbury and Castleford. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Oldham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 10. Description of GEORGE OLIVER, who is charged at Birmingham with stealing a Watch and Chain from a house on the 4th instant : he is between 35 and 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexior), dark brown hair and whiskers, aud shaved under chin ; he is dressed like a stableman, and is likely to seek employment at livery stables. Information to be given to Chief Constable Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 10. Charged with stealing a quantity of Wearing Apparel, on the 28th ultimo, at Nantwich : ELIZA HANOVER, alias FOLLER, a prostitute, and native of Norfolk ; she is about 25 year's of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 ircbes high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, and has a genteel appearanca ; dressed in a black jacket,, black tunic, brown skirt, aud black hat with violet rose on left side. Information to be given to Super- intendent Saxton, County Police Station, Nantwich. Cheshire. — Bow- street, March 10. Description of LAVINIA JANE HILL, who absconded from Wakefield, on the 26th ultimo, charged with stealing £ 16 in gold : Bhe is supposed to be a native of Staffordshire, very short and slender, about 30 yea. j- s of age, dark hair, cut very short, left eye discoloured from effects of a recent blow, has a habit of drawing her mouth to one side when speaking ; supposed to be . dressed in dark bon'net, black. cloiis jacket, and light- coloured print dress ; she hawks peas in the evenings. She is supposed to be accompanied by a puddler, 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, thin, clean shaved face, hair inclined to be s- indy ; dressed in dark cloth coat and vest, white moleskin trousers, wide brimmed black felt billycock hat, and lace- up boots, with brass eyelets. Information to lie given to Chief Constable Chiphead, Borough Police Office, Wakefield, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, March 10. Absconded from Pontypridd, by the 7 p. m. train, on the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing and taking with him £ 500 in Gs^ ld ami Silver, chiefly gold, the monies of Messrs. Spickettand Price, solicitors, his masters : GEORGE HURDEN, a clerk, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, pale face, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, beard rather long and glossy, walks erect, and of smart appearance ; dressed in a grey suit, gray ulster coat, and brown bowler bat; he is a native of Bodmin, Cornwall, smokes very much, and generally carries a small staff. He left Cardiff by the 10T5 p. m. train, on the 28th ultimo, for Waterford, and was seen iu Kilkenny on the lst instant, where he left his ulster coat at his lodgings, stating that he should stay a few days at some quiet country village, but ha will probably endeavour to emigrate. £ 20 reward will be paid for his apprehension and conviction. Information to be given to Superintendent Matthews, Pontypridd, Glamorgan- shire, who holds a warratot for his apprehension.— Barw- streeti, March 10, Description of ALFRED FOWLER, charged with embezzlement, at Dogdyke: he is about 44 years of age, 5, feet 4 or 5 inches high, brown hair, light mo'ustach « , no • whiskers, finger damaged, and has been in the army ; dressed in dark short coat, dark trousers, brown leggings, brown rough cap, and lace- up boots; he is likely to seek employ- ment with grocers and millers carts. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Jarvis. Police Station, Horncastle, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen from the shop of William Walsh, at Stockton, on the 9th ultimo : 2 silver Geneva Watches. I silver verge Watfth, engraved with lady and gentle- man at back. 1 lady's long gold Chain, belcher pattern. 1 18- carat $, old Albert, curb pattern, stamped every link. 1 gold Seal, wheel shaped pattern, with compass. 2 lady's fancy gold Rings, set with stones, 15 carat, aud other Ridgs. 54 yards of brown figured Dress Stuff. 1 scarlet aud black wool Slprt. 1 plated Albert Guard, snake pattern, with key bar, yellow stone end. And several other Articles, which have been recovered. BY JAMES SIMPSON, alias JONES, alias THOMPSON", a hawker, aud native of Cork, Ireland, from 3b to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7' or 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, ginger whiskers, partly shaved down side of face, slender build, and had a recent cut above the right eye ; dressed in a blue pilot coat, dark vest and trousers; Mack hard felt hat, black neckerchief, and elastic- side boots, aud supposed to be wearing a rough dark cloth overcoat. Was discharged from Durham Prison on the morning of the robbery, having been committed from South Shields for larceny. He was seen in a public- house in Newcastle on the 15th ultimo. Information to be given to Superintendent Booth, Stockton- on- Tees, Durham.— Bow- street, March 8. Charged on a warrant with larceny: HENRY J. CARLEY, late of 1, Fortescue Villa, South Beddington, Carsbaltou, late clerk to Messrs. Uthoff and Co, 147, Leaden hall- street ; 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale com- plexion, black hair, whiskers, beard and moustache, and stout- build ; dressed in light grey overcoat, dark clothes under- neath, high hat, and of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of LONdon Police Office, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 6. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, between 9 p. m. and 7 a. m., from Mr. Robert Gilbert, cartman, of Hessle : one black pilot cloth Top- coat, velvet collar, double- breasted, black horn buttons, two pockets outside and one inside breast pocket, containing a number of unpaid bills; one Scotch tweed Jacket, black horn buttons, two pockets outside and one inside, and drab liniug. By a man who has absconded from Mr. Gilbert's service, about 22 years of age, brown hair, fresh complexion, and stout figure ; dressed in striped fustian vest, cord trousers, strong laced boots, and ' sou- wester' or billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellerker, Welton, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 6, Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from a house in Preston : an Opera Glass with black frame. By a man who lodged in the house on the previous night, and has absconded; about 22 yesrs of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion and mous- tache ; dressed in a dark suit and billycock hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street,, March 6. Stolen from the Marine Barracks, Chatham, on the lst instant: two silver dessert Spoons, plain ; a silver toddy Ladle, twisted handle, marked ' F. L.' in Old English in the bowls ; a pair of plated Nut- crackers ; two brown tweed Coats, one double- breasted and Vest to match ; a black cloth Vest; a shirt Front, marked ' F. Sean;' a white shirt Collar; a black silk Scarf, knitted in front ; a black pot Hat; a pair of bedford cord Trousers ; and a pair of brown tweecl ditto, fine quality. By a deserter, about, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, b^ owh hair, grey eyes, and dressed in the stolen clothes.
