RIoMee.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed . offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signatare of ' the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed rto the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended,. and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the • POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88i, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. HUEDEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 3 a. m, on the 15th January last, three men, having there faces blackened, and armed with guns, were detected night poaching in the game preserves of Sir. J. R. Bailey, Bart., M. P., near Dan- y- wern, in the parish of Langunider, Breconshire, and one of the men discharged a gun at George King, a gamekeeper, wounding him in the abdomen and causing his death. .£ 100 reward will be paid by Sir. J. B. Bailey, to any person who shall give such information and evidence, as shall lead to- the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any person implicated in this offence, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Breconshire, or to Superintendent Evans, Police Station, Crickhowell, Breconshire.— Bow- street, March 8. Charged on a warrant with having en the afternoon of the lst iustant, murdered ( by stabbing) his mother- in- law, Margaret Goldie or Sloan, at 608, Gallowgate, Glasgow, also with having, at same time and place, assaulted and stabbed, to the danger of life, his wife, Margaret Sloan or Barr : THOMAS BARR, a book canvasser, a native of Glasgow, from 36 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, broad face, high cheek bones, nose flat at bridge, wide nostrils, dark swarthy complexion, black curly hair, of medium length, full black beard and moustache, black eye- brows, black staring eyes, round shouldered, and stoops a little ; dressed in a dark shooting coat, shepherd tartan trousers, double- breasted shep- herd tartan vest, all spotted with blood, black bonnet, and elastic- side boots. He wears two or three gold Rings on right hand, one with a white stone, and had a silver Watch, gold Albert, aud Locket. Immediately after committing the above offences, he purchased a pair of white canvas trousers, which he may now be wearing. He was an engineer, but for some time past has been hawking books and stationery through- out the country. His mother resides at St. Peterbburgh, Russia, aad the accused may endeavour to reach that country. Information to be given to Chief Constable M'Call, Central Police Chambers, Glasgow— Bow- street, March 6. On the 26th ult., the body of a newly- born female child was found in the Gloucester and Berkeley canal at Slimbridge, tied up in a brown paper bag. At the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Super- intendent Hewson, Dursley, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 3. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Between 11 p. m. and 5 a. m. on the night of the 4th inst., some persons wilfully set fire to a hay stack at Hoyland Common, near Barnsley. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, Police Office, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 8. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM _ THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Berwick- upon- Tweed during the hiring fair on 4th instant : a Bilver Geneva hunting Watch, white dial, chapters, on case outside, hole in centre, maker ' Michael, Geneva,' No. 49577. Information to be given to Head Constable Garden, Berwick- upon- Tweed, Northumberland.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen from the person on the Race Course, Worcester, on the 25th instant: a silver lever hunting Watch, with silver dial, and a representation of- St. Paul's Church engraved thereon, Also stolen, on the previous day : a gold albert curb Chain, with Seal attached. Information to be given to the City Police, Worcester.— Bow street, February 28. Stolen on the 22nd instant, from the person of a gentleman, at the Hunt Meeting, or at the Railway Station, Doncaster : a gold lever keyless Watch, No. 65454, with crest on back— garter in shield, in centre eagle wings, cross spear through heart, and round the garter ' Tenax et tidelis.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Gregory, Borough Police Office, Doncaster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 25. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of house- breaking between 11 a. m. and 2 p. m. on the lst instant, the property of Mr. Evan Hicks, Pont Hill, Bitton : an open face silver lever Watch, No. 31496, the winding chain of the watch broken, no makers name on it. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, or to Sergeant Morley, Police Station, Oldland Common, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen by means of housebreaking, supposed by a tramp, at Burfield, in the parish of Clun, Salop, between 5 a. m. and 9 p. m. on the 3rd instant, the property of John Evans : a light grey woollen Jacket, a pair of woollen cord Trousers, a woollen cord Vest, and a red and white spotted Handker- chief. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Williams, Bishops Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, March 6. The house of Mr. George Prentley was broken into on the 2nd instant, between 1 and 3' 30 p. m., and stolen therein : a pair of black cloth Trousers, lined with white calico ; a pair of grey check Trousers, with washleather pockets ; a Dress- piece, black ground with white spots; a black and scarlet wool Scarf; an old- fashioned Shawl; a calico Shirt with linen front, marked ' J. Nevill;' a black corded silk Necktie, with scarf Pin, white stone set in a bird's claw ; a Brussels Carpet Bag, of different colours ; and nine remnants of Cloth, different patterns. Description of a man who was seen about the house : 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair, slight moustache, and dressed in a dark coat, rather dirty and shabby, dark vest, brown fustian or cord trousers, and dirty black hard billycock hat. He was seen going in the direction of Uttoxeter with the stolen carpet bag and a bundle. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Police Station, Burton- on- Trent, or to Sergeant Harrison, Police Station, Barton- under- Needwood, Stafford- shire.— Lew- street, March 6. H& MM'B MB CATTLB STEALING. Stolen from a yard at Old Wood Barn Farm, lngatestone, on the night of the 21 at instant: a chestnut cart Mare, 10 years old, 17 hands high, a white blaze down the forehead, hind legs white half way up to the hocks, long mane and tail, and in good condition; the property of Mr. Stephen Foreman, farmer, Ingatestone, who will give .£ 30 reward for such information as shall lead to the recovery of the mare and the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Lennon, Chelmsford, or at any Police Station in Essex.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen on the 29th ultimo from oustide the Horns public- house, Kennington : a mouse- coloured cob Mare, 14 hands high, near hind foot white, scar inside near hind leg and on oil' hind fetlock, mane torn off in the centre, and 4 years old; a silver- plated Harness, no breechings ; and a light spring Cart, green, picked out with light green, patent axle, brass caps, and the off side wing mended.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, March 3. Further information respecting the large light bay Mare, stolen from a field at Dean Court,' near Buckfastleigh, Devon, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 18th instant : the Mare has a sand crack in fore- feet, and is in foal. There were gipsies in the neighbourhood when the Mare was stolen. £ 5 reward will be given by the owner to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the Mare and conviction of the offender or offenders. Informa- tion to be given to the Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter.— — Bow- street, February 25. LARCENY AMD MBSMLEM1M. Description of ALFRED FOWLER, charged with embezzlement, at Dogdyke : he is about 44 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, brown hair, light moustache, no whiskers, finger damaged, and has been in the army ; dressed in dark short coat, dark trousers, brown leggings, brown rough cap, and lace- up boots; he is likely to seek employ- ment with grocers and millers carts. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Jarvis, Police Station, Horncastle, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen from the shop of William Walsh, at Stockton, on the 9th ultimo : 2 silver Geneva Watches. 1 silver verge Watch, engraved with lady and gentle- man at back. 1 lady's long gold Chain, belcher pattern. 1 18- carat gold Albert, curb pattern, stamped every link. 1 gold Seal, wheel shaped pattern, with compass. 2 lady's fancy gold Rings, set with stones, 15 carat, and other Rings. 54 yards of brown figured Dress Stuff. 1 scarlet and black wool Shirt. 1 plated Albert Guard, snake pattern, with key bar, yellow stone end. And several other Articles, which have been recovered. BY JAMES SIMPSON, alias JONES, alias THOMPSON, a hawker, and native of Cork, Ireland, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, ginger whiskers, partly shaved down side of face, slender build, and had a recent cut above the right eye; dressed in a blue pilot coat, dark vest and trousers, black hard felt hat, black neckerchief, and elastic side boots, and supposed to be wearing a rough dark cloth overcoat. Was discharged from Durham Prison on the morning of the robbery, having been committed from South Shields for larceny. He was seen in a public- house in Newcastle on the 15th ultimo. Information to be given to Superintendent Booth, Stockton- on- Tees, Durham.— Bow- street, March 8. Charged on a warrant with larceny: HENRY J. CARLEY, late of 1, Fortescue Yilla, South Beddington, Carshalton, late clerk to Messrs. Utlioff and Co., 147, Leaden- hall- street ; 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale com- plexion, black hair, whiskers, beard and moustache, and stout build ; dressed in light grey overcoat, dark clothes under- neath, high hat, and of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police Office, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 6. Description of JOSEPH ABRAHAM LEWIS, alias JOE ADAMS, tramping glazier, charged with obtaining by false pretences 10s., from Elizabeth Field, of Cradley, on the 7th January list : 44 years of age, 5 fept 4J^ inchesij nigh, dark curly hair, tiift on chin, dark complexion, u, nd eyea, and has lost some of his teeth ; dressed generally in rusty grey coat, cord trousers, and billycock hat turned up at the sides. He carries a glazier's crate, has lately resided at Worcester, where his wife and children are staying. He may probably have a pedlar's certificate in his possession. Information to to be given to Superintendent Ovens, Herefordshire Con- stabulary, Bromyard, near Worcester, or to Sergeant Smith, Police Station, Cradley near Malvern, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bou- nreet, March 6. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, between 9 p. m. and 7 a. m., from Mr. Robert Gilbert, cartman, of Hessle : one black pilot cloth Top- coat, velvet collar, double- breasted, black horn buttons, two pockets outside and one inside breast pocket, containing a number of unpaid bills ; one Scotch tweed Jacket, black horn buttons, two pockets outside and one inside, and drab lining. By a man who has absconded from Mr. Gilbert's service, about 22 years of age, brown hair, freeh complexion, and stout figure ; dressed in striped fustian vest, cord trousers, strong laced boots, and ' sou- wester' or billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellerker, Welton, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 6. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from a house in Preston : an Opera Glass with black frame. By a man who lodged in the house on the previous night, and has absconded; about 22 yesrs of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion and mous- tache ; dressed in a dark Buit and billycock hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 6. Stolen, from the Marine Barracks, Chatham, on the lst instant: two silver dessert Spoons, plain ; a silver toddy Ladle, twisted handle, marked ' F. L.' in Old English in the bowls ; a pair of plated Nut- crackers; two brown tweed Coats, one double- breasted and Vest to match ; a black cloth Vest; a shirt Front, marked ' F. Sean;' a white shirt Collar ; a black silk Scarf, knitted in front; a black pot Hat; a pair of bedford cord Trousers ; and a pair of bcown tweed, ditto, fine quality. By a deserter, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, and dressed in the stolen clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham.— Bow- street, March 6. Stolen from 17, Milton- street, Dorset- square : 5 J100 Portuguese 3 per cent. Bonds, Nos. 194432, 246027, 252490. 252491, and 252492 ; a large old- fashioned, blue enamelled Watch, rose diamonds in centre of back, enclosed in a glass case ; a moss- agate Ring, set round with rubies; an old gold Wedding Ring ; a fancy black and gold Ring, set round with hair ; and 4 old gold Turkish Coins. By a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light hair and moustache : dressed in a drab tourist suit and black billy- cock hat.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, March 6. Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from Pease Cottage, Slaugham, Sussex, the property of George Gard, post master : 168 Postage Stamps. By GEORGE NEWMAN, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, dark hair, and few- whiskers, is a well sinker, and has been employed at 4, Bond- court, City. His wife is living at 32, Marion- square, Pritchard's- place, Hoxton, Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Ofiice. Lewes, or to Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, ' Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Description of WILLIAM HOUGH, alias MOTTRAM, a labourer, who absconded from Wheelook on the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing : one pair of Blankets, one Sheet, and one Pillow- case; the property of Jonathan Norbury. He is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion; dressed in a white slop, cord trousers, hlack hat, and strong boots. He is accompanied by Norbury's wife, and they are supposed to have gone to the north of England. Information to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, ConstabularyStation, Middlewicb, or to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Absconded on the 23rd ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 60 : THOMAS LAYTON, ( late of 11, Bay- street, Clerkenwell,) 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, fair complexion, rather long face, and heavy eyes, slim build; dressed in long brown coat, and black billycock hat. Supposed to bo accompanied by his mother, two younger brothers, and two younger sisters. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey , City of London Police, Detective Depart- ment, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C.— Bow- street, March 1. Description of WILLIAM CLEAR, a page, charged on a warrant with stealing two £ 5 Notes and £ 4 6s. 10d., be- longing to his mistress, Miss Bell, of Brighton : he is about 16 years of age, rather stoutly built, dark hair and eyes, and round rosy face; dressed in a dark blue pea jacket, shabby dark grey striped trousers, black felt wide- awake, and black leggings or long gaiters. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton. Sussex.— Bow- street, March 1. Stolen from the schooner, ' City of Chester,' lying in the River Thames, off Cliffe, Kent, on the 28th ultimo : a silver lever Watch, maker's name ' Paul Price, Chester'; ' Samuel Hughes, Connah's Quay, 1874,' engraved on inside case, with a silver Guard attached; and|£ 15 10s. in cash. By a man about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, very few light whiskers, and sore eyes ; dressed in duck jumper or slop, brown cloth trousers ( patched on knees), blue flannel shirt, cheesecutter cap, and blucher boots. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Consta- bulary, Chatham.— Bow- street, March 1. Charged by warrant with embezzlement : JOHN SANDERS, 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, small brown whiskers, slender made, stoops when walking, right knee inclines inwards, has a twitching in his eyes; dressed in dark blue or blue- black overcoat, black frock body coat, dark trousers, and soft billy- cock hat. He lately resided at 3, Chapel- lane, Cheetwood, Manchester, and his father resides in Cecil- place, Lorn- street, Northgate- street, Chester. He absconded from Manchester on the 25th ultimo. £ 2 will be paid by his late employer for his apprehension. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Cheapside, Manchester.— Bow street, March 1. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Watch, recovered: HENRY DEVERSON, a native of Eastry, Kent, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and small whiskers; dressed in cord trousers, • with raised seams, sleeved waistcoat, cord front, and fustian back, sleeved blue guernsey underneath, and billycock hat ; is of smart appearance, a deserter from the army, and will probably be found employed as a carter. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, February 28. Stolen from the Lion Hotel, Broseley, Salop, on the 24th instant: £ 1 in Bronze Monies ; a cashmere Muffler, with white ground and red figures ; and a black cloth Waist- coat. By a man, who slept in the house the previous night, and stated he was agent in advance of Sangers Circus, and wanted to rent stabling for the horses and ground for the circus : he is 5 feet 8 inches high, with dark moustache and ( small) whiskers, and clean- shaved under the chin; dressed in a blue over coat, dark brown under coat, striped trousers, billycock hat, and lace- up boots. He is supposed to have been convicted at Shrewsbury and Knutsford, Cheshire, in November last, of similar offences. Information to be given to Superintendent Christie, Bridgenorth, or to Police Constable Charlesworth, Broseley, Salop.— Bow- st., Feb. 28. Stolen on the morning of the 22nd instant, from a bed- room at the Castle Hotel, Hastings : a lady's gold Geneva Watch, chased back, gold dial, and a gold neck Chain. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers, and slight moustache; dressed in dark clothes, black hat, black overcoat, and had with him a black bag ; he spoke with a foreign accent. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, February 25. Absconded from Barrow- in- Furness, on the 21st instant charged with larceny: WM. GALLAGHER WILSON 36 years of age ( looks much older), 5 feet 11 inches high, pale complexion, black hair, turning grey, short beard and mous- tache, grey eyes, his right shoulder injured, which prevents his lifting his arm above his head, blue scar corner of left eyebrow, broad high forehead, and sunken cheeks. Was several years in India as a railway guard, and is supposed to have been similarly employed on the London and North Western Railway, but was lately on the Furness Eailway as a pointsman; dressed in long dark frock overcoat, with a light velvet collar, black braid binding about 6 inches above the hand, dark cloth trousers, and black billycock hat. He is accompanied by his wife, who is about 5 feet high, and very pale looking. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Barker, Police Office, Barrow- in- Furness, Lancaster, who holds a warrant forj his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 25. Stolen from the Nelson Inn, Wellington, on the 23rd instant: a Geneva silver Watch, with gold hands, No. 53351, and one small gold Chain with Seals attached, and about 4s. in Money ; the property of Richard Hall. By a man lodger, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache, and shaved clean under the chin ; dressed in dark blue overcoat, and black hard billycock hat, and says he was a saddler, and spoke of Clifton, Surrey, Lambeth and Bristol. £ 1 reward will be given on the recovery of the property, and apprehension of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, February 25. Description of a tramping shoemaker ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 23rd instant) remanded to the Police Station, Bishops Stortford, until the 2nd proximo, charged with larceny: he gives his name as HENRY MARTIN ( supposed fictitious), states he is a native of Leeds, Yorkshire, but is supposed to belong to Kingsland, London, and says he has been in Springfield Gaol, Essex, he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches higb, light hair, cut short and very thick, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, high cheek bones, whiskers and moustache shaved off, a tuft of sandy hair on chin, scar lower right lip, bracelet half- way round right wrist, forming a clasp on the top ; dressed in snuff- coloured coat, torn and has been mended behind, light cord trousers, which have been patched ai » - the knee, blue twill waistcoat, elastic- side boots, and black billycock hat. Photographs can be had on applicatiou. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder. Police Station, Bishops Stortford, Herts — Bow- street Februarv 25 FELONIES. " ( Not otherwise described). Description of WILLIAM SPILLER, alias MAD JACK, charged on a warrant with indecently assaulting a girl 8 years of age at Reading on the 21st ultimo. He is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 54 inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, a scar on right shoulder and on lower part of right thigh, belongs to the Royal Berks Militia, and has worked as an ostler and a brickmaker. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Reading, Berks. — Bom- street, March 1. Description of a young man named WILLIAM KENNY, who absconded from Saint George, near Bristol, on the 12th instant, charged with Eape : 5 feet 2J inches high, 22 years of age, light brown hair, dark blue eyes, fair complexion, bow- legged, a large nose, a native of Kingswood Hill, near Bristol, and is a collier but can drive a steam- engine. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, or to Inspector Bird, St. George, near Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 28. Charged with indecently assalting a girl, between 11 and 12 years of age, at Whitchurch, Somersetshire, on the 21st instant: THOMAS LYE, a labourer, and native of Ditcheat, from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, thin face, idiotic appearance, and speaks in a very drawling tone ; dressed in a bowler hat, old velveteen coat, striped vest, fustian trousers, and clog boots, very old and dirty. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Somersetshire Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 28. Remanded at the Blandford County Police Station until the lst proximo, charged with obtaining on the 7th instant, a waterproof Carriage Rug and other Articles, the property of Mr. Fred Davis, a saddler, of Blandford : a man who gave the name of GOLDEN HOPE, alias HARGRAVE and FISHER, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark whiskers shaved off, and dark mous- tache, his left ear drops down, is marked with the letter ' D.' on his side, with a dolphin pricked over it in ink; he has been about Blandford pretending to repair thrashing machines and chaff cutters. He states he has been a soldier in the 35th Regiment of Foot, he enlisted on the 13th Oct., 1865 and was discharged 9th August, 1869, and has travelled in a sparing booth.
