Notice.— It is requested that all communications ior the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the JSTame is gives, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be mado and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor DI9M foe prejiaM, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Y WOUNBXM Charged on a warrant with having on the afternoon o the lst instant, murdered ( by stabbing) his mother- in- law, Margaret Goldie or Sloan, at 608, Gallowgate, Glasgow, also with having, at same time and place, assaulted and stabbed, to the danger of life, his wife, Margaret Sloan or Barr : THOMAS BARR, a book canvasser, a native of Glasgow, from 36 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, broad face, high cheek bones, nose flat at bridge, wide nostrils, dark swarthy complexion, black curly hair, of medium length, full blaek beard and moustache, black eye- brows, black staring eyes, round shouldered, and stoops a little; dressed in a dark shooting coat, shepherd tartan trousers, double- breasted shep- herd tartan vest, all spotted with blood, black bonnet, and elastic- side boots. He wears two or three gold Rings on right hand, one with a white stone, and had a silver Watch, gold Albert, and Locket. Immediately after committing the above offences, he purchased a pair of white canvas trousers, which he may now be wearing. He was an engineer, but for some time past has been hawking books aud stationery through- out the country. His mother resides at St. Petersburgh, Russia, and the accused may endeavour to reach that country. On the 26th ult., the body of a newly- born female child was found in the Gloucester and Berkeley canal at Slimbridge, tild up in a brown paper bag. At the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' was returned. Information to be given to Super- intendent Hewson, Dursley, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 3. 9 p. m. on the 3rd instant, the property of John Evans: a light grey woollen Jacket, a pair of woollen cord Trousers, a woollen cord Vest, and a red and white spotted Handker- chief. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Williams, Bishops Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, March 6. The house of Mr. George Prentley was broken into on the 2nd instant, between 1 and 3' 30 p. m., and stolen therein : a pair of black cloth Trousers, lined with white calico ; a pair of grey check Trousers, with washleather pockets ; a Dress- piece, black ground with white spots; a black and scarlet wool Scarf; an old- fashioned Shawl; a calieo Shirt with linen front, marked ' J. Nevill; a black corded silk Necktie, with scarf Pin, white stone set in a bird's claw ; a Brussels Carpet Bag, of diffeient colours ; and nine remnants of Cloth, different patterns. Description of a man who was seen about the house : 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches higb, light hair, slight moustache, and dressed in a dark coat, rather dirty and shabby, dark vest, brown fustian or cord trousers, and dirty blaek hard billycock hat. He was seen going in the direction of Uttoxeter with the stolen carpet bag and a bundle. During the sight of the 21st instant, the Halfway House Inn, at Minster in Sheppey, was burglariously entered, and the following articles, the property of Walter Butler, stolen therein: a brown Overcoat, a blue monkey Jacket, a blue hip Jacket, a travelling Rug with purple lining, a Timepiece set in brass, a silver tea Urn, and three or four bundles of plated Prongs. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Naylor, Beverley.— Bow- street, February 23. Description of THOMAS HINE, shoemaker, of Olney, charged on a warrant, with two other men in custody, with housebreaking at Sherington, on the 16th instant: he is 25 years of age, 6 feet high, slender figure, pale complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, small dark moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in dark cloth coat, vest and trousers, and hard blaek billycock liat. Information to be given to Inspector Hall, Newport Pagnell, or at the Police Station, Olney, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, February 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 18th iostant, the property of John Tudor, Saddle Lake, Stanton- upon- Hineheath : a dark cloth Coat, bound with braid; a pair of grey and black plaid Trousers ; a black cloth double- breasted Vest, bound with braid ; a pair of cotton cord Trousers, new ; a pair of puce- coloured Braces, without straps ; a new woollen Shirt, puce, grey, and black ; and a pair of woman's Clogs. Supposed by a young man having the appearance of a tramp, 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in a cloth cap and black jacket. Also stolen, on the previous day : a gold albert curb Chain, with Seal attached. Information to be given to the City Police, Worcester.— Bow street, February 28. Stolen on the 22nd instant, from the person of a gentleman, at the Hunt Meeting, or at the Railway Station, Doncaster: a gold lever keyless Watch, No. 65454, with creat on back— garter in shield, in centre eagle wings, cross spear through heart, and round the garter ' Tenax et fidelis.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Gregory, Borough Police Office, Doncaster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 25. Stolen from the person of gentlemen at the Waterloo Coursing Meeting, Altcar, on the 16th instant : a gold lever Watch, open- face, white dial, sunk seconds, f- plate, maker J. Goodman, Liverpool, No. 33388 ; a f- plate gold lever Watch, railway beziel, jewelled in 6 holes, expansion balance, plain case, with seconds dial, steel hands, No. 19400. £ 5 reward will be paid for the recovery of this Watch and con- viction of the offender. Also stolen from the same place, on the 17th instant, from the person of a gentleman : a gold lever Watch, with ' J. A.' on the inside case, gold albert Guard, two Seals ( one amber), and a gold split Ring for the button hole attached; a gold duplex Watch, with white face, gold hands and seconds, plain case, No. 22721. £ 5 reward will be paid for the recovery of this Watch and conviction of the offender. Stolen by means of housebreaking, supposed by a tramp at Burfield, in the parish of Clun, Salop, between 5 a. m, and HORSE AWX » CATTJLit Stoleu on the 29th ultimo from oustide the Horns public- house, Kennington : a mouse- coloured cob Mare, 14 hands high, near hind foot white, scar inside near hind leg and on off hind fetlock, mane torn off in the centre, and 4 years old ; a silver- plated Harness, no breechings ; and a light spring Cart, green, picked out with light green, patent axle, brass caps, and the off side wing mended.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, March 3. Further information respecting the Horse and Cart stolen from Sandy : one of the men described in the Police Gazette of the 21st instant, resides at Bemerton- street, Caledonian- road, London. Both are horse copers, and frequent Islington Market. Information to be given to Superintendent Bedlow, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, February 28. Stolen from a yard at Old Wood Barn Farm, lngatestone, on the night of the 21st instant: a chestnut cart Mare, 9 years old, 17 hands high, a white blaze down the forehead, hind legs white half way up to the hocks, long mane and tail, and in good condition ; the property of Mr. Stephen Foreman, farmer, Ingatestone. Information to be given to Superintendent Lennon, Chelmsford, or at any Police Station in Essex.— Bow- street, February 25. Further information respecting the large light bay Mare, stolen from a field at Dean Court, near Buckfastleigh, Devon, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 18th instant : the Mare has a sand crack in fore- feet, and is in foal. There were gipsies in the neighbourhood when the Mare was stolen. £ 5 reward will be given by the owner to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the Mare and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from a field at Draycott, near Claverley, on the 16th instant : a bay cart Mare, with long tail, one white hind foot, about 15 hands high, rather low in back. Description of JOSEPH ABRAHAM LEWIS, alias JOE ADAMS, tramping glazier, charged with obtaining by false pretences 10s., from Elizabeth Field, of Cradley, on the 7th January last: 44 years of age, 5 feet 4J inches high, dark curly hair, tuft on chin, dark complexion and eyes, and has lost some of his teeth ; dressed generally in rusty grey coat, cord trousers, and billycock hat turned up at the sides. He carries a glazier's crate, has lately resided at Worcester, where his wife and children are staying. He may probably have a pedlar's certificate in his possession. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, between 9 p. m. and 7 a. m., from Mr. Robert Gilbert, cartman, of Hessle : one black pilot cloth Top- coat, velvet collar, double- breasted, blaek horn buttons, two pockets outside and one inside breast pocket, containing a number of unpaid bills; one Scotch tweed Jacket, black fborn buttons, two pockets outside and one inside, and drub lining. By a mau who has absconded from Mr. Gilbert's service, about 22 years of age, brown hair, fresh complexion, and stout figure ; dressed in striped fustian vest, cord trousers, strong laced boots, and ' sou- wester' or billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellerker, Welton, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 6. Stolen on the 29tli ultimo, from a house in Preston : an Opera Glass with black frame. By a man who lodged in the house on the previous night, and has absconded; about 22 yesrs of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion and mous- tache ; dressed iu a dark suit and billycock hat. Stolen from the Marine Barracks, Chatham, on the lst instant: two silver dessert Spoons, plain ; a silver toddy Ladle, twisted handle, marked ' F. L.' in Old English in the bowls; a pair of plated Nut- crackers; two brown tweed Coats, one double- breasted and Vest to match ; a black cloth Vest; a shirt Front, marked ' F. Sean;' a white shirt Collar; a black silk Scarf, knitted in front ; a black pot Hat; a pair of bedford cord Trousers ; and a pair of brown tweed ditto, fine quality. By a deserter, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, and dressed in the stolen clothes. Stolen on the I9th ultimo, from Pease Cottage' Slaugham, Sussex, the property of George Gard, post master : 168 Postage Stamps. By GEORGE NEWMAN, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches higb, fresh com- plexion, dark hair, and few whiskers, is a well sinker, and has been employed at 4, Bond- court, City. His wife is living at 32, Marion- square, Pritchard's place, HoxtoD, Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office. Lewes, or to Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Description of WILLIAM HOUGH, alias MOTT- RAM, a labourer, who absconded from Wlieelook on the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing: one pair of Blankets, one Sheet, and one Pillow- case ; the property of Jonathan Norbury. He is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion; dressed in a white slop, cord trousers, black hat, and strong boots. He is accompanied by Norbury's wife, and they are supposed to have gone to the north of England. Stolen from the schooner, ' City of Chester,' lying in the River Thames, off Cliffe, Kent, on the 28th ultimo : a silver lever Watcb, maker's name ' Paul Price, Chester'; ' Samuel Hughes, Connah's Quay, 1874,' engraved on inside case, with a silver Guard attached ; and £ 15 10s. in cash. By a man about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, very few light whiskers, and sore eyes ; dressed in duck jumper or slop, brown cloth trousers ( patched on knees), blue flannel shirt, cheesecutter cap, and blucher boots. Charged by warrant with embezzlement : JOHN SANDERS, 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, small brown whiskers, slender made, stoops when walking, right knee inclines inwards, has a twitching iu his eyes; dressed in dark blue or blue- black overcoat, black frock body coat, dark trousers, and soft billy- cock hat. He lately resided at 3, Chapel- lane, Cheetwood, Manchester, and his father resides in Cecil- place, Lorn- street, Northgate- street, Chester. He absconded from. Manchester on the 25th ultimo. £ 2 will be paid by his late employer for his apprehension. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Cheapside, Manchester.— Bow street, March 1. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Watch, recovered: HENRY DEVERSON, a native of Eastry, Kent, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and small whiskers; dressed in cord trousers, with raised seams, sleeved waistcoat, cord front, and fustian hack, sleeved blue guernsey underneath, and billycock hat; is of smart appearance, a deserter from the army, and will probably be found employed as a carter. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, February 28. Stolen from the Lion Hotel, Broseley, Salop, on the 24th instant: £ 1 in Bronze Monies ; a cashmere Muffler, with white grouud and red figures ; and a black cloth Waist- coat. By a man, who slept in the house the previous night, and stated he was agent in advance of Sangers Circus, and wanted to rent stabling, for the horses and ground for the circus : he is 5 feet 8 inches high, with dark moustache and ( small) whiskers, and clean- shaved under the chin; dressed in a blue overcoat, dark brown under coat, striped trousers, billycock hat, and lace- up boots, He is supposed to have been convicted at Shrewsbury and Knutsford, Cheshire, in November last, of similar offences. Stolen on the morning of the 22nd instant, from a bed- room at the Castle Hotel, Hastings : a lady's gold Geneva Watcb, chased back, gold dial, and a gold neck Chain. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers, and slight moustache; dressed in dark clothes, black hat, black overcoat, and had with him a black bag ; he spoke with a foreign accent. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, Ftbmary 25. Absconded from Barrow- in- Furness, on the 21st instant charged with larceny: WM. GALLAGHER WILSON 36 years of age ( looks much older), 5 feet 11 inches higb, pale complexion, black hair, turning grey, short beard and mous- tache, grey eyes, his right shoulder injured, which prevents his lifting his arm above his head, blue scar corner of left eyebrow, broad high forehead, and sunken cheeks. Was several years in India as a railway guard, and is supposed to have been similarly employed on the London and North Western Railway, but was lately on the Furness Railway as a pointsman; dressed in long dark frock overcoat, with a light velvet collar, black braid binding about 6 inches above the hand, dark cloth trousers, and black billycock hat. He is accompanied by his wife, who is about 5 feet high, and very pale looking. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Barker, Police Office, Barrow- in- Furness, Lancaster, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 25. Absconded on the 21st instant, from 8, Great James- street, Bedford- row, stealing a Cheque for £ 130 : a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, has a swaggering gait, is simple- looking, and speaks thickly ; dressed in a rough black overcoat, dark vest, dark c heck trousers, side- spring boots, and high black hat. He is supposed to have gone to Liverpool, Coventry, or Hastings.— Metropolitan'• Police, E Division, February 25. Stolen from the Nelson Inn, Wellington, on the 23rd instant : a Geneva silver Watch, with gold bands, No. 53351, and one small gold Chain with Seals attached, and about 4s. in Money ; the property of Richard Hall. By a man lodger, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache, and shaved clean under the chin ; dressed in dark blue overcoat, aud black hard billycock hat, and says he was a saddler, and spoke of Clifton, Surrey, Lambeth and Bristol. £ 1 reward will be given on the recovery of the property, and apprehension of the offender or offenders. Description of a tramping: shoemaker ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 23rd instant) remanded ta the Police Station, Bishops Stortford, until the 2nd proximo, charged • with larceny : he gives his name as HENRY MARTIN ( supposed fictitious), states he is a native of Leeds, Yorkshire, but is supposed t9 belong to Kingsland, London, and says he has been in Springfield Gaol, Essex, he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, cut short and very thick, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, high check bones, whiskers and moustache shaved off, a tuft of sandy hair on chin, scar lower right lip, bracelet half- way round right wrist, forming a clasp oh the top ; dressed in snuff- coloured coat, torn and has been mended behind, light cord trousers, which have been patched at the knee, blue tsvill waistcoat, elastic side boots, and black billycock _ hat. Photographs can be had on application. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder, Police Station, Bishops Stortford, FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Stolen on the 26th ultimo in Trafalgar- road, Greenwich : 1 a male Child, 14 months old, and fair complexion and hair;, dressed in brown linsey frock and petticoat, white flannel ditto under, green cape with yellow and brown stripes, black stripe violet socks, lace boots, and white worsted hood. By a young woman ; dressed in a maroon frock, trimmed with black velvet, black tight- fitting jacket with two buttons behind, accompanied by an Artilleryman, about 22 years of age, fair hair and complexion.— Metropolitan Police, R Divi- sion, March 1. Description' <? f WILLIAM SPILLER, alias MAD JACK, charged on a warrant with indecently assaulting a girl 8 years of age at Reading on the 21st ultimo. He is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 54 inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, a scar on right shoulder and on lower part of right thigh, belongs to the Royal Berks Militia, aad has worked as an ostler and a brickmaker. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Reading, Berks. — Bovu- street, March 1. Description of a young man named WILLIAM KENNY, who absconded from Saint George, near Bristol, on the 12th instant, charged with Rape : 5 feet 2- J inches high, 22 years of age, light brown hair, dark blue eyes, fair complexion, bow- legged, a large nose, a native o£ Kiugswood Hill, near Bristol, and is a collier but can drive a steam engine.
