Notice.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tlse Signature of the person requiring or lending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispemsably necessary that an Information should be made and nworn to before a Magistrate, of the Oflence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aitiole in the . POLICE GAZETTE, all Setters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Description of THOMAS HINE, shoemaker, of Olney, charged on a warrant, with two other men iu custody, with housebreaking at Sherington, on the 16th instant: he is 25 years of age, 6 feet high, slender figure, pale complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, small dark moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in dark cloth coat, vest and trousers, and hard black billycock hat. Information to be given to Inspector Hall, Newport Pagneli, or at the Police Station, Oluey, BuGks, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- itreet, February 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 18th instant, the property of John Tudor, Saddle Lake, Stanton- upon- Hineheath : a dark cloth Coat, bound with braid; a pair of grey and black plaid Trousers ; a black cloth double- breasted Vest, bound with braid ; a pair of cotton cord Trousers, new ; a pair of puce- coloured Braces, without straps ; a new woollen Shirt, puce, grey, and black ; and a pair of woman's Clogs. Supposed by a young man having the appearance of a tramp, 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in a cloth cap and black jacket. Information to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Hayward, Wem, Salop.— Bow- street, February 23. Description of a tramp, charged with housebreaking at Kidlington, Oxon, in company with another man in custody : CLOSE, late j he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, February 18. FORGERY. Description of THOMAS CAMERON CLOSE borough accountant, at Middlesborough, who absconded on complexion, dark hair, tuft ' of hair on chin, red mark round or about the llth ultimo, charged with forgery and embezzle- his cheek ; dressed in a dark jacket, dark trousers with a ment: he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark patch on the right seat, and cap with straight peak. The hair and eyes, large beard, whiskers, and moustache, slender man ; u custody gives his name CHARLES ALBERT make, and of smart appearance ; generally wears tweed PRINCE, a tailor, 5 feet If inches high, round shoulders, clothes, and is a native of Ripon. He is accompanied by his fr^ complexion, clean shaved, right wrist has been broken, wife and five children : the wife is about 34 years of age, and mark from a cut over right eyebrow, and broken nose ; the eldest child, a boy, 13 years of age, and the youngest dressed in dark tweed jacket and trousers, brown striped 4 years. It is suspected they hajve or may embark for vegtj and round hard hat. Information to be given to • abroad. Information Chief Constable Inspector Bowen, Police Station, ^ Woodstock, Oxfordshire. to be given to Saggerson, Police Office, Middlesborough, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow street, February 18. ROBBERY AMD LARCENY FE0M THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the Race Course, Worcester, on the 25th instant: a silver lever hunting Watch, with silver dial, and a representation of St. Paul's Church engraved thereon. Also stolen, on the previous day : a gold albert curb Chain, with Seal attached. Information to be given to the City Police, Worcester.— Bow street, February 28. The men advertised in the Police Gazette of the 23rd instant, charged with larceny from the person of William Smith, at Beeford, in the East Riding of York, are not to be apprehended. — Bow- stree', I'ebruary 28. Stolen oa the 22nd instant, from the person of a gentleman, at the Hunt Meeting, or at the Railway Station, Doncaster : a gold lever keyless Watch, No. 65454, with crest on back— garter in shield, in centre eagle wings, cross - Bow- street, February $ 21. H © MS ® AND CATTLE STEALING. Further information respecting the Horse aud Cart stolen from Sandy : one of the men described in the Police Gazette of the 21st instant, resides at Bemerton- street, Caledonian- road, London." Both are horse copers, and frequent Islington Market. Information to be given to Superintendent Bedlow, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.— Bow street, February 28. Stolen from a yard at Old Wood Barn Farm, Ingatestone, on the night of the 21st instant: a chestnut cart Mare, 9 years old, 17 hands high, a white blaze down the forehead, hind legs white half way up to the hocks, long mane and tail, and in good condition ; the property of Mr. Stephen Foreman, farmer, Ingatestone. Information to " be given to Superintendent Lennon, Chelmsford, or at any Police Station in Essex.— Bow- street, February 25. Further information respecting the large light bay Mare, stolen from a field at Dean Court, near Buckfastleigh, Devon, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 18th instant : the Mare has a sand crack in fore- fee^, and is in foal. There spear through heart, and round the garter ' Tenax et fidelis.' 1 were gipsies in the neighbourhood when the Mare was stolen. Information to be given to Chief Constable Gregory, Borough £ 5 reward will be given by the owner to auy person who Police Office, Doncaster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 25. j will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the Mare and conviction of the offender or offenders. Iuforma- Stolen from the person of gentlemen at the Waterloo Coursing Meeting, Altcar, on the 16th instant: a gold lever Watch, open- face, white dial, sunk seconds, f- plate, maker J. Goodman, Liverpool, No. 33388 ; a f- plate gold lever Watch, railway beziel, jewelled in 6 holes, expansion balance, plain case, with seconds dial, steel hands, No. 19400. £ 5 reward will be paid for the recovery of this Watch and con- viction of the offender. Also stolen from the same place, on the 17th instant, from the person of a gentleman : a gold lever Watch, with ' J. A.' on the inside case, gold albert Guard, two Seals ( one amber), and a gold split Ring for the button hole attached; a gold duplex Watch, with white face, gold hands and seconds, plain case, No. 22721. £ 5 reward will be paid for the recovery of this Watch and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Superintendent Dorset, Ormskirk, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 21. Stolen in Aberdeen, from the person of a gentleman, by means of assault and robbery, about midnight on the 5th inst.: a gold English lever Watch ( recovered), maker George Oram and Sons, London, No. 1607, having a hand holding a wheat sheaf on a shield on the back; also an albert Chain, curb pattern, with hook for fastening. Stolen from a field at Draycott, near Claverley, on the 16th instant: a bay cart Mare, with long tail, one white hind foot, about 15 hands high, rather low in back. ' Stolen from Etton, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, on the night of the 21st instant: an aged white horse Pony, about 14 hands high, in good condition, with slight halter. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Nay lor, Beverley.— Bow- street, February 23. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 21st instant, the Halfway House Inn, at Minster in Sheppey, was burglariously entered, and the following articles, the property of Walter Butler, stolen therein: a brown Overcoat, a blue monkey Jacket, a blue LARCENY MI) EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged on a wairant with stealing a Watch, recovered: HENRY DEYERSON, a native of Eastry, Kent, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and small whiskers ; dressed in cord trousers, with raised seams, sleeved waistcoat, cord front, and fustian back, Bleeved blue guernsey underneath, aud billycock hat ; is cf smart appearance, a deserter from the army, and will probably be found employed as a carter. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent. — Bow- street, February 28. Stolen from the Lion Hotel, Broseley, Salop, on the 24th instant: £ 1 in Bronze Monies ; a cashmere Muffler, with white ground and red figures ; and a black cloth Waist- coat. By a man, who slept in the house the previous night, and stated he was agent in advance of Sangers Circus, and wanted to rent stabling for the horses and ground for the circus : he is 5 feet 8 inches high, with dark moustae' v uud ( small) whiskers, and clean- shaved under the chin; dressed in a blue overcoat, dark brown under coat, striped trousers, billycock hat, and lace- up boots. He is supposed to have been convicted at Shrewsbury and Knutsford, Cheshire, in November last, of similar offences. Information to be given to Superintendent Christie, Bridgenorth, or to Police Constable Charleswortb, Broseley, Salop.— Bow- st., Feb. 28. Stolen on the morning of the 22nd instant, from a bed- room at the Castle Hotel, Hastings : a lady's gold Geneva Watch, chased back, gold dial, and a gold neck Chain. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers, and slight moustache; dressed in dark clothes, black hat, black overcoat, aud had with hi| n a black bag ; he spoke with a foreign accent. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Gienister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, Ftbrv. ary 25. Absconded from Barrow- in- Furness, on the 21st instant, charged with larceny: WM. GALLAGHER WILSON, 36 years of age ( looks much older), 5 feet 11 inches higb, pale complexion, black hair, turning grey, short beard and mous- tache, grey eyes, his right bhoulder injured, which prevents his lifting his arm above his head, blue scar corner of left eyebrow, broad high forehead, and sunken cheeks. Was several years in Iijdia as a railway guard, and is supposed to have been similarly employed on the London and North Western Railway, but was lately on the Furness Railway as a pointsman; dressed in long dark frock overcoat, with a light velvet collar, black braid binding about 6 inches above the hand, dark cloth trousers, and black billycock hat. He is accompanied by his wife, who is abaut 5 feet high, and very pale looking. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Barker, Police Office, Barrow- in- Furness, Lancaster, who holds a warrant for, his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 25. Absconded on the 21st instant, from 8,. Great James- street, Bedford- row, stealing a Cheque for £ 130 : a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inehes high, fair complexion, light brown hair, has a swaggering gait, is simple- looking, and speaks thickly ; dressed in a rough black overcoat, dark vest, dark c heck trousers, side- spring boots, and high black hat. He is supposed to have gone to Liverpool, Coventry, or Hastings.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, February 25. Further information respecting GEORGE FOLLICK, advertised in the Police Gazette of the llth instant : he has been traced to Hatiierleigh, Devon, where on the 9th instant, he committed a robbery similar to that at Llandogo, and on the 10th took train from Okebampton to Marsh Mills, near- Plymouth. His right name is WM. HAWKE DOLLY, but he sometimes goes by the name of WILLIAM HAWKE, a native of Saint Millions, Cornwall, has been previously con- victed of felony, the last time being at Bodmin ; he is well known to the police at Plymouth, and at Saltasb, and is a deserter from the South Devon Militia. Information to be given to Superintendent Berthon, Usk, or to Sergeant McEvoy, Monmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, Febniary 25. Stolen from a field at Gorsty Hall, Rowley Regis, between the 9th and 14th instant, the property of John Wright: a dark brown mare Pony, 12 hands high, rising 4 years old, long mane and tail, unshod, bow legged in front, and in good condition : and a chestnut horse Pony, not castrated, about 12 hands high, rising 3 years old, long mane and tail, unshod, and in good condition. Information to be given to Sergeant Walters, Police Office, Blackheath, near Dudley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 21. Stolen on the 9th instant, from the Sheep Market, East Ilsley, Berks : a half- bred Teg, no mark, in good condition, the property of Mr. T. Wells, Farnborough. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Neill, Wantage, Berks.— Bow- street, February 18. Stolen from a field near Netherton Church, Dudley, on the night of the 24th ultimo : a chesnut mare Pony, rising 3 years old, about 13J hands high, and near hind foot white. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such informa- tion as shall lead to the apprehension arid conviction of the ' ofSeader or offender and recovery of the mare. Information Stolen from the Nelson Inn, Wellington, on the 23rd instant: a Geneva silver Watch, with gold hands, No. 53351, and one small gold Chain with Seals attached, and about 4s. in Money ; the property of Richard Hall. By a man lodger, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache, and shaved clean under the chin ; dressed in dark blue overcoat, and black hard billycock hat, and says he was a saddler, and spoke of Clifton, Surrey, Lambeth and Bristol. £ 1 reward will be given on the recovery of the property, and apprehension of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, lebruary 25. Description of a tramping shoemaker ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 23rd instant) remanded to the Police Station, Bishops Stortford, until the 2nd proximo, charged with larceny: he gives his name as HENRY MARTIN ( supposed fictitious), states he is a native of Leeds, Yorkshire, but is supposed to belong to Kingsland, London, and says he has been in Springfield Gaol, Essex, he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches higb, light hair, cut short and very thick, haz? l eyes, fresh complexion, high cheek bonee, • whiskers and moustache shaved off, a tuft of sandy hair on chin, scar lower right lip, bracelet half- way round right wrist, forming a clasp on the top ; dressed in snuff- coloured coat, torn and has been mended behind, light cord trouaers, which have been patched at the knee, blue twill waistcoat, elastic- side boots, and black billycock hat. Photographs can be had on application. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder, Police Station, Bishops Stortford, Herts.— Bow- street, February 25. Stolen from a shop in Ripon, between the 30th November and the 8th December last : a lady's sealskin Jacket, 21 ins. deep, brown satin lining, trade number stamped inside right hand corner ' 45658.' Supposed by a woman, 40 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, ruddy complexion ; she wore a waterproof cloak. Information to be given to Head Constable Metcalfe, City Police Office, Ripon, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, February 23. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Bolton, on the 16th instant: a pair of men's black cloth Trousers, with flaps, and lined with drabbet ; a man's single- breasted black cloth Vest, with collar, and yellow lining; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, with buttons, newly soled aud heeled ; a brown alpaca Umbrella; and a blue market Handkerchief, marked ' W.' with thread. By a roan who lodged at the house one night, stated he was a striker in a foundry, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout made, light complexion, full round face, sandy moustache and beard; dressed in cord trousers, newly washed, short loose fitting jacket, much worn, soft black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire — Bow- street, February 23. Description of THOMAS BEAMISH, a journeyman baker, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout, fair complexion, round, full, red face, sandy bair, whiskers, and moustache; dressed in light clothes ; he left Guildford, in company with his wife, on the 21st instant, supposed for London. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Law, Borough Police, Guildford, Surrey.— Bow- street, February 23. Stolen on the 31st May, 1875, from Craven- street Strand, the sum of £ 870. By WILLIAM SMITH, solicitor, late of 32, Craven- street, Strand, and West Moulsey, Surrey, 52 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light hair and whiskers ( turning grey); dressed in dark clothes and high hat : and JAMES CARTER, late of 10, Lancaster- place, Strand, 42 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat. Warrants issued. — Metropolitan Police, E Di- vision, February 23. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Bolton, on the 14th instant; a youth's double- breasted blue nap Overcoat, with black horn buttons, two buttons behind, and two on each cuff, black velvet collar, and lined iu the body with black sateen, and in the . sleeves, with white drabbet. _ Supposed by a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, light hair and complexion, and tattooed on one arm ' W. D.' or' William Duncan ;' dressed in brown overcoat, dark trousers and vest, brown billycock hat, and old shoes. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 23. Absconded frcm Weybridge, Surrey, about 6 weeks ago, charged with embezzling £ 1 5s., the monies of his employer : RICHARD STEEL, a saddler and harness maker, from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, full face, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaves on chin, rather round shouldered, stout build, of very clean and respectable appearance, and well dressed ; he has a brother a harness maker, who keeps a public- house at Bexley, Kent. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Consta- bulary, Chertsey, who holds a warrant for bis apprehension, and who will forward photographs if required.— Bow- street, February 21. At 4 30 a. m. on the 17th instant, a man of the following description made his escape from an out- house, at Bannel Buckley, where he was in the act of stealing Fowls, two hens being found killed after his escape : he is 22 or 23 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, pockmarked, rather broad features, and stout build; dressed in a Seoteh cap, without peak, dark blue cloth frock coat, dirty moleskin trousers, and clogs ; he is accompanied by another man. The lock- up shop ef Mr. Wm. Rogers, butcher, Lane End, Buckley, was also broken into, about midnight on the 17th instant, aud stolen therein: about 9 lbs. of Mutton Chop; a Sheep's Head ; Pluck ; a Pig's Head ; and about 10 lbs. of Suet. Supposed by the above men. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or to Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, February 21. Absconded from Tredegar on the 12th instant, charged with embezzling a large sum of Money ; the property of the Siskoway Railway Company : TOM W, EVANS, late a goods clerk at the Siskoway Railway Station, and a native of Pontrhydyrun, near Newport, Monmouthshire : 24 years of age ( but looks about 19 or 20), 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slightly made, fair and very pale complexion, brown hair ( which he keeps neatly brushed and parted in centre of fore- head), brown eyes, very slight dark moustache, and very little brown whiskers on cheeks; dressed in a dark bluejacket, black and dark grey fancy mixture cloth trousers, a blue pilot cloth overcoat, dark bowler hat, generally wears kid gloves, and carries a walking stick or umbrella. He is of smart, active appearance, walks erect, and is very fond of singing. Has been traced through Gloucester to Leeds, and is supposed to;; have gone to Newcastle on- Tyne, or Cumberland, as he has a relative at one of those places. Information to be given to Superintendent Fo wler, Tredegar Iron Works, or to Detective Richards, London and North Western Railway, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, February 21. Diteheat, from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, thin face, idiotic appearance, and speaks in a very drawling tone ; dressed in a bowler hat, old velveteen coat, striped vest, fustian trousers, and clog boots, very old and dirty. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Somersetshire Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, February 28. During the nigsft of the 18th instant, the parish church at Methley was entered, by means of cutting six small paues from the lower part of the south- east end window, and removing an iron cross bar. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, Wakefield, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, February 23. Description of SAMUEL WILLS, charged on a war- rant with Rape, at Sileby, on the 18th instant : be is 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers, slight moustache, fair complexion, rather long features, middle make, walks very erect, is a professional runner, and a native of New Basford, Notts. ; dressed in clotn cap with tabs at sides, brown tweed coat with fur collar, and light plaid trousers. He is well known at Nottingham and Sheffield, and has served 18 months in Nottingham County Gaol for a similar offence, which term expired about 5 months ago. Information to be given to Superintendent Peberdy, Lough- borough, Leicestersaire.— Bow- street, February 23. Stolen, since the 13th instant, from a window of Kings Langley Church : a quantity of copper Wire. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 5 reward. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Isgate, Hemel Hempstead, Herts.— Bow- street, February 21. A6GEAYATSD Description of JAS. BURNETT, alias JAS. CHAPPEL BENNETT, alias BARWELL, alias BENNELL, charged with obtaining £ 3 lis. 6d. at Brompton, Chatham, on the 10th instant, by means of a fictitious cheque on Messrs. Round, Green, and Co., Colchester Bank : he is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes and hard felt hat; he frequents garrison towns, and will probably try to engage himself as butler to an officer. He had with him, on the lltli instant, his wife and little girl, about 5 or 6 years old. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 25. Description of a man charged with obtaining by false pretences on the 21st instant, 31 lbs. of roll Tobacco and three boxes of common clay Pipes : he is about 60 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark grey whiskers round his face, and wore' spectables ; dressed in dark clothes, and soft black billycock hat. He is charged with similar offences in other towns in Lancashire. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 23. CHARLES SPENCER, alias SPOONER, advertised in the Police Gazette in December, 1874, for failing to comply with the provisions of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871, by not reporting himself to the Chief Officer of the Hastings Police, has been apprehended upon, that charge, and committed to Lewes Gaol for two months with. hard labour. No. Y 597, who is subject to police supervision, and who has failed to report himself: he is 65 years of age, 5 feel 6^ inches high, grey hair and whiskers, a labourer, and a native of Lea Bailey, Gloucestershire ; dressed in long smock frock, buttoned down the front, cord trousers, and billycock hat, all very old ; he was convicted at Gloucester Assizes in April, 1864, of larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude, and in June, 1875, at Hereford County Sessions, of larceny, ' and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment, and 2 years police supervision. No. 2180, who has failed to report himself at the Police Office, Oldham, as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : about 24 years of age, 5 feet 3J inches high, fresh complexion, red hair, grey eyes, scar on bridge of nose and on right elbow, and neck and arms freckled. He was con- victed of housebreaking at Liverpool Borough Sessions in April, 1869, and sentenced to seven years penal servitude.
