Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably neesssary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, • at , the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereef, together with < the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor cnust be prepaid, otherwise tho insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. in brown macintosh coat, dark cloth body coat, brown cloth trousers, and black felt round- crowned hat; states that he was employed at St. Helens as a surveyor ; he has further obtained money by falsely representing himself as a collector of Inland Revenue taxes; he is supposed to be going in the name of HENRY SANDERS. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Lancashire.— Brno- street, Feb. 14. Description of the late Middlesborougb Borough accountant, charged with forgery: he is supposed to have sailed from England between the 10th and 12th ultimo, and is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, thin, smart appearance, fair complexion, dark nair, and wore large dark beard, whiskers, and moustache. Was accompanied by hi3 wife and five children, the eldest a boy about 14 years of age, second a girl about 12 years of age, with light flaxen hair. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorks.— Bow- street, February 9. INFORMATIONS. MURDER- AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, Description of two men who absconded from Harring- ton, Cumberland, on the 12th instant, charged ( with PATK. MULLEN, in custody) with feloniously wounding Peter Cooney, at Harrington :' HUGH DILLON or CANE, about 26 years of age, a labourer or iron ore filler, native of Gar- vaugh, county Derry, about 5 feet 10 inches bigh, fresh complexion, no whiskers, dark hair, and proportionate figure ; dressed in dark . grey coat, moleskin trousers, soiled and red with iron ore, and cap, JAMES DILLON or CANE, about 24 years of age, a labourer or iron ore filler, native of Gar- vaugb, county Derry, about 5 feet 7 inches high, red and very fresh faced, dark brown hair, and stout figure ; dressed in blue jacket, dark trousers, red and soiled with iron ore, and felt hat. They are brothers, but are supposed to have gone in different directions. Information to be given to Superintendent Bertram, Constabulary Office, Whitehaven, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- street, February 16. On the 30th ultimo, the body of a newly- born female Child was found dead in a stream of water in a mea- dow at Cove, Yately, Hants ; it had been in the water 24 hours. At the coroner's inquest a veidict of ' Wilful murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. £ 50 reward will be paid by Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as- shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer or murderers. The Home Secretary will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the like result. Stolen from the person of Thomas Dodd, at Middlewicb, about 4 p. m. on the 13th instant: a silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled, No. 16171. Supposed maker's name ' Price,' or ' Price and Son, Liverpool.' Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Cheshire Constabulary, Middlewich.— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen in Aberdeen, from the person of a gentleman, by means of assault and robbery, about midnight on the 5th instant: a gold English lever Watch, maker George Oram and Sons, London, No. 1607, having a hand holding a wheat sheaf on a shield on the back; also an albert Chain, curb pattern, with hook for fastening. Information to be given to George Cadenhead, Esq., Procurator- Fiscal, County and Municipal Buildings, or to Superintendent Swanson, City Police Office, Aberdeen.— Bow- street, Pebrua/ ry 11. Description of SAMUEL WARD, late of Wellington, Salop, charged on a warrant ( with two other men in custody) for assaulting with intent to rob John Bullock, of Admaston, at 10 p. m. on the 30th ultimo : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout make, light complexion, long sandy moustache, no whiskers, and of smart appearance; dressed in dark overcoat, light mixture trousers, and high hat ; he is a billiard marker, and was last employed - t the Royal Hotel, Llangollen, It is supposed that he has gone to Wrexham or Livarpool, and will probably attempt to emigrate. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Ivins, or Sergeant Simeon, Wellington, Salop.— Bow street, February 9. / in brown velveteen coat, cord trousers, and soft felt hatj The other is about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, and stout built: dressed in dirty cord suit. Information to be given to Superintendent Bedlow, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. — Bow- street, February 16. Stolen between 5 p. m. on the 5th and 7 a. m. on the 7th instant, from a sheep- fold on Barkham Farm, in the parish of Fletching, Sussex : a Southdown fat Sheep, black mark and ' W.' in a ring on the rump. Supposed to have been taken away in a cart. Whoever will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 20 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, February 14. Stolen from a field at Kingsfield, Dartford, between the 2nd and 6th instant: a half- bred 1- year- old Sheep, between Hampshire and South Down breed, marked ' E. F. S.' in a ring in pitch. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, February 9. FORGERY. Description of WILLIAM CHARLES ALEXANDER LEWIN, who is charged with forging and uttering a cheque for £ 10 : 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches higb, slight build, fair complexion, large full eyes, black hair, dark whiskers and moustache, genteel appearance, wears a gold ring, and walks with a short quick step; generally dresses well, in dark clothing; he belongs to Claygate Cross, Wrotham, Kent; his letters are addressed to 2, Gloucester- terrace, Tottenham, near London ; he was staying at 106, High- street, Ramsgate, about Christmas last, and in Septem- ber at an hotel in Margate. Information to be given to Superintendent Hulse, Police Station, West Malling, near Maidstone, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — JBow- street, February 16. Description of a young man who gave the name of WILLIAM ROSS, charged on a sheriff's warrant, with forgery and theft of £ 800 : he is about 26 or 27 years of age, speaks with the North of England accent, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, genteel make, pale complexion, sharp features, fair curly hair, small fair moustache and imperial ; dressed in grey cheeked tweed suit, ( checks large cross bars), low felt hat and grey ulster top- coat; he has spent some time in America, and carries an American Colt's revolver, with ivory handle. Information to be given to Superintendent Anderson, Police Chambers, Maryliill, near Glasgow.— Bow- street, February 16. Charged on a warrant with forging signatures to a number of cheques on Parr's Banking Company, Warrington : WALTER BAYLISS, land surveyor, a native, and until recently a resident, of Bolton, where his father ( recently deceased) was an engineer in the employ of the Corporation; he is about 29 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark com- plexion, $? Vad features, high cheekbones, black hair, keen dark eyes, small, moustache and imperial, little whiskers, broad round shoulders, large feet and walks clumsily ; dressed BUKGLiLBY AID MOUSE BREAKING. Stolen on the night of the 29th ultimo, by breaking into a lockup workshop at Llanvairwaterdine : one Hand Saw, nearly new ; one ditto, old, and the point broken off; one Tenon Saw, marked ' A. Francis;' one pair of Bell Pliers; one Hand Vice, marked ' A. F.' at the joint ; and an old Tool Basket. By JOHN PRICE, alias JACK THE TEMPLE, a returned convict, 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, sandy whiskers, stout make ; dressed in dark jacket, cord trousers tied under each knee, and black hat; he may be wearing an oilcloth double- breasted coat, stolen in the neighbourhood on the same night. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Lear, Bromfield, Salop, who holds a warrant.— Bow- street, February 9.. Stolen from a bed- room at a lodging- house, in Luton, during the night of the 6th instant, by a young man, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches higb, much pockmarked, light hair, cut short, having recently been liberated from prison : a black billycock Hat, nearly new ; blue cloth Coat, with velvet collar, and open at breast ; brown speckled cloth double- breasted Vest and Trousers; a pair of iace- up Shoes, quite new, toe- caps, and tips on heels ; and a white Bilk Neckerchief. He is probably wearing the stolen clothes, as he left his own behind ; be left the lodging- house by breaking out during the night. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Tydeman, Luton, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, Feb. 9. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, at New Brompton, Gillingham, between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 7th instant: six Tea Spoons, two Table Spoons, and a pair of Sugar Tongs, all silver, and marked ' J. B. A.'; a silver Tea Spoon, flowered handle ; a gold Ring, with pearls and topaz in centre ; a pair of coral Ear- rings, set in gold; an ivory Brooch; a very small old- fashioned gold ditto ; a gold ditto, red cornelian stone; a gold ditto, white stone ; a brown silk Dress, with blue stripes ; a black ditto, with Pannier and Jacket ; black velvet Cape; and about £ 5 in Cash. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham.— Bow- street, February 9. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Robert Coulson, at the Boyne Colliery, Durham, on the 7th instant : a grey woollen Shawl; a pair of cotton Sheets; a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots, plain fronts; two pairs of new white Stockings ; one blue cloth dress Coat, two pockets outside and one inside, and cloth covered buttons ; a brown cotton Umbrella; two red and white Pocket- handkerchiefs ; and a few Shillings in Silver. By ANN BLANSHARD, alias CHRISTIE, about 45 years of age, 5 feet inches high, sallow complexion, dark eyes, dark brown hair, slender figure, and a native of Allan, Scotland. She has some dark hair on upper lip and a scar on the nose. Information to be given to Superb u.- a& ht Dunn, County Constabulary, Durham, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow street, Feb. 16. Absconded on the 12th instant, from Mulgrave House, Fulham, stealing £ 220 in Gold : a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers and tuft on chin, blue eyes, slightly pitted with small pox ; dressed in blue overcoat, black jacket under, check vest, dark check trousers, high hat, and button boots; a native of Exon, near N ewmarket, and has an uncle, a tailor named Neal, at Sharp- street, Dewsbury. It is supposed he will endeavour to leave the country.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, February 16. Stolen from a dwelling- house in South Shields, on the 4th instant: a silver patent lever Watch, No. 6590, white dial and engine- turned cases, with an 18- carat gold graduated thick link Albert, gold Seal with white stone, and gold Key attached. By a man, who gave the name of WILLIAM H. MITCHELL, 36 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and left eye is peculiar; dressed in a faded dark brown tweed suit, fancy woollen shirt, and cheesecutter cap with brass button on each side. He left behind him a white pocket Handkerchief, marked ' J. J. Coxon.' He took private lodgings in South Shields on the 3rd instant, stating that he was late Chief Officer on board the steam- ship ' Magenthen,' wrecked on the American coast, and was waiting for the Board of Trade enquiry. He spoke the Yorkshire dialect, and is supposed to be a native of Scarborough, and was seen at North Ormesby on the 7th inst. Information to be given to Head Constable Richardson, Borough Police Office, South Shields, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 16. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Further information respecting the Horse and Cart stolen from Sandy, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th instant; the Cart is drawn by chains from the axletree. Two men are'suspected, one about 5 feet 8 inches high, clean shaved, except a little black hair on side of each ear ; dressed Stolen during the night of the 13th instant, from an hotel in Torquay : a large gold and silver Chatelaine; a gold Watch and Chain ; a broad silver Bracelet, engraved ; a chain cable Bracelet; a Chain and Locket, engraved ' E. R.;' a pair of silver Ear- rings ; a gold and diamond single stone Ring; a gold and carbuncle single stone Ring ; a diamond and sapphire double heart Ring; a pearl and turquoise Ring ; a gold Ring, with five small star diamonds; and a lady's Purse, containing about £ 16 in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Vaughan, Devon Constabulary, Torquay.— Bow street, February 16. Absconded from Barnstaple, on the 29th ultimo : GEORGE BROOM, alias BROWN, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, small whiskers, no moustache or beard, and squints slightly ; he is a hawker of fish and fruit, and has a very shrill voice ; dressed in grey suit. He is charged with stealing £ 4, the property of George Henry Vicary, fishmonger, and is known in many towns in England and Wales. Information to be given to Head Constable Songhurst, Barnstaple, Devon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bou- sireet, February 14. Absconded from Bridport on the 25th ultimo, charged with stealing a black Leather Bag, containing a suit of grey clothes, 3 flannel Shirts, 3 silk Handkerchiefs, 6 Collars, and a pair of lace- up Boots with brass, eyelet holes ; the property of Thomas Barnes, of Bridport: WILLIAM alias TOM PAUL, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, full face, thick lips, brown hair, very little whiskers, and fair complexion ; dressed in dark grey jacket and vest, a slop underneath, cord trousers, and black donkey ha^ ; is a labourer, a native of Crewkerne, and may be found on drain- age works. Information to be given to Superintendent MacHale, Beaminster, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 14. Absconded from Bournemouth, Hants, charged with stealing on the 12th ultimo, 2s. 6d., of John Eaton, his employer: FREDERICK WHITE, a fly driver, 18 or 19 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh com- plexion, hazel eyes, light brown hair, and no whiskers ; i dressed in a dark brown overcoat, light trousers, and round j hard blaek hat. Information to be given to Superintendent White, Hants Constabulary, Ringwood, or to Sergeant Catchlove, Hants Constabulary, Bournemouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 14. Charged on a warrant with stealing on the 3rd instant: one moving Filester Plane, stamped ' T. Green, ironmonger, Shrewsbury'; the property of Frederick Breeze, High Ercall, Salop : THOMAS DUTTON, a carpenter, 35 years of age, 5 ft. 5 or 6 in. high, dark hair, dark sandy whiskers and moustache; dressed in a dark blue double- breasted jacket, black vest and trousers, round black hat, and lace- up boots. He says he worked for a builder at Tunstall, and that his wife and family live at Nantwich, Cheshire, or Goldenhill, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, Feb. 14. Absconded from Woodbridge, on the lst instant: CHARLES HAWKE, who travels the country ( especially the Eastern counties), as a jobbing clock and watch cleaner, and is charged on a warrant with the larceny of a Watch, recovered, the property of Arthur Fisk, of Eyke, labourer : he is about 52 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, more than half turned grey, has a raw place as large as a penny piece on ankle ; dressed in light worsted cord trousers, short in the legs, old dark rusty cloth coat, and a dark hard' oval- crowned hat; when travelling generally has a clock's face hanging in front of him, and a basket with his tools at his back; frequents low lodring- houses, is very talkative, and fond of drink. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Police Station, Woodbridge, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 11. Description of; JOSEPH HEMINGSLEY, alias WYRLEY JOE, and WILLIAM POTTS, alias JUDY, charged on warrant with stealing a Sovereign from Thomas Jones, at Brownhills, on the 27th ultimo: Hemingsley is 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, no whiskers, slightly pockmarked, rather sandy hair; dressed in black cloth jacket, vest, and trousers, black soft billy- cock hat, and nearly new elastic- side boots. Potts is 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, stout, no whiskers or moustache, dark brown hair; dressed in dark plaid jacket, vest and trousers, hard black hat, silver watch chain round his neck and across his breast to vest pocket. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, February 11. Description of a tramping watch and clock cleaner, who gave the name of G. BREEZE, supposed fictitious, charged with larceny as a bailee : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, dark eyes, dark complexion, freckled face, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache, rather light and thin, one finger crooked ( supposed third finger on left hand); dressed in a black cloth coat, grey mixed cloth trousers, and black hard felt hat; carries a blaek leather bag with clasp. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Kemmish, West Sussex Constabulary, Petworth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 11. Stolen on the 3rd instant, from Maria- terrace, New- road, Rotherhithe : about £ 32 in Gold. By a man, 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes ; dressed in dark plaid trousers and vest, dark coat, and seal- skin cap.— Metropolitan Police, R Division, February 11. Description of GEORGE FOLLICK, a tramping carpenter, charged under warrant with stealing from a carpenter's shop on the Wye Valley New Railway, at Llandogo, on the 29th ultimo, a Frail, containing a Hand Saw, a Tenon Saw, a Trying Plane, Jack Plane, Stock ( recovered), ten Chisels, different sizes, and various other small Tools, all marked ' Samuel Jones,' also a Trying Plane and Jack ditto, marked ' I. W.' He is between 30 and 35 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, rather slight, fair complexion, light hair, light brown whiskers, oval face, light moustache, very light eyes and eyelashes ; dressed in rough hairy cap, with ear laps, dark jacket, broken at the elbows, dark grey double- breasted vest, brown striped trousers, and elastic- side boots, with buttons up the front; is a native of Devon or Cornwall, and has worked on the Ogmore and Cardiff New Railway. Information to be given to Captain Berthon, Usk, or to Sergeant McEvoy, Mon- mouth, who holds a warrant for hia apprehension.— Bow- street, February 11. obtaining a leather Apron; a horse Rug ; and a Whip, & c., from Mr. Frederick Davis, saddler, of Blandford, by false pretences : one about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, tether long nose, slight dark mous- tache and whiskers. ligRt brown hair, cut short; dressed in a blue pilot cloth suit, bright buttons on jacket, double- breasted vest, with bright buttons, black bowler hat, he also had a green striped suit with hisa ; he acts as master. The other about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, his left ear drops down ; dressed in a dark drab ordinary suit, dark solf billy- cock hat, had a white canvas working suit with him. They carried a rush basket, containing machinist's tools ; they were traced to Combe Gate, near Salisbury, on the 7th inst., and were seen driving a dark brown mare pony, about 13 hands 2 inches high, aged, very frisky in stable, a small pony trap, painted green, with white stripes, front board taken off, brass mounted harness, with a new kicking strap. A young woman about 20 years of age, dark hair and eyes, passed as the younger ones wife, she holds a pedlar's certificate in the name of Leviathan Hughes, which was taken out at Wanstead Flats, Essex ; letters have been directed to them in the names of HOLMS and R. HOPE. Information to be given Superintendent Underwood, Bland- ford, Dorset, who hold warrants for their apprehension,— Bov>- street, February 11. Obtained, 28th November last, by means of false pre- tences, Jewellery to the value of ,£ 75. By GOUGH, 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, tuft on chin and whiskers slight and sanydy, stout, and dressed respectably. Late of No. 83, St. George's road. Lambeth. A warrant has been issued.— Metropolitan- Police, E Division, February 11 I1AUBS AMD AGGRAVATED MSSBUMEAHONSS. Description of a woman, charged with obtaining goods, hy false pretences, at Altrincham : she is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark sandy curly hair, very fair complexion, slender build, sharp features, and good address; dressed in a dark grey shawl, a black net bonnet, with red flower, and black feather. Information to be given to Super- intendent Steen, Altrincham, Cheshire.— Bow- st., Feb. 16. Further information respecting JAMES ELRINGTON DAWSON, described in the Police Gazette of the 4th inst. : he was apprehended on the 10th instant, at Tunbridge Wells, and is remanded at Cranbrook, until the 16th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, Kent Constabulary, Ctenbrook.— Bow- steet, February 14. Absconded from Jedburgh, charged with fraud: HEZEKIAH BOWLING, a quack doctor, but by trade a twister, 32 years of age,. 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, full round face, very dark complexion, dark hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache, whiskers rather lighter brown at the ends, smart appearance, and of good addil^ s, ( may have shaved off his whiskers and moustache) ; dressed in blue cloth ulster topcoat, and round felt hat; he is accompanied by a stout full- faced woman, with light browh hair, and of dissipated appearance ; they had with them a small brown dog, with spots on the back from burns, and wearing a collar, studded with brass nails, answers to the name of ' Tiney.' He is said to be a native of Preston, Lancashire, and lately resided there. Information to be given to Chief Constable Boultbee, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 14. Description of two men who give their names HARGRAVE and HOLMS, who have been about the neighbourhood of Blandferd, pretending to repair thrashing machines, and absconded on the 7th instant, charged with MISCEtl. These persons have been travelling in the Eastern Counties together, occasionally, for some years ; they state they have lived at Yarmouth for the last seven months, and they came to Cambridge on the 11th instant by way of Woodbridge, Ipswich, Bury, and Newmarket.
