On the afternoon of the 5th ultimo, the body of William Comer, who was last seen alive on the racecourse at Totnes on the night of the 3rd ultimo, was found in an arm of the river Dart, just under the quays at Totnes, with a severe fracture of the skull and other injuries ; and at the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 100 will be paid to any person who will give such information and evidence a3 will lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderei' 3, and Mr. Secretary Cross will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to nny scrnimnlim r'? f , Vv:" f the actual murderer, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Hopkins, currier, Wiudaor, was broken aud entered, aud stolen therein : 9 pairs of Long Soles, marked in pencil from 1 to 9; 23 pairs of Half Soles, marked in pencil from 1 to 13 ; a pair of new kid button Boots ; a pair of military Boots ; a pair of spring- side Boots ; a dozen Balls of Hemp, marked ' Patent;' and a dozen pairs of women's Half Soles. Between C and 8 p. m., on the 4th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Hood, 8, Calthrop- road, Banbury, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a coloured gold Brooch and Ear- rings with fringe, pearls, and ruby stones ; a silvered Scotch Brooch with topaz stone; a bright gold Necklet; a large coloured gold Locket; a silver- gilt fiiigree Cross ; a pair of plain gold Ear- rings; a coral Pendant; and about £ Z. Absconded on the 2nd instant, charged with forgery : GEORGE RIMMELL, 52 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, and chin shaved ; he is a clerk, of respectable appearance, and recently resided at Hose- bank, Ballard's- lane, Finchley ; he frequents races, pigeon shooting, & c. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Thame Fair, on the 11th instant: a f plate gold hunter lever Watch, escapement jewelled in ten holes, ' F. & C.' engraved on plate, No. 25406 or 64938 ; and a 10- carat graduated curb Chain attached. Stolen from the person of two gentlemen, on the race course at Newmarket, on the 13th instant : a gold Watch, much worn, plain face, seconds hands, maker Hinzman, Cam- bridge ; and an aluminium Watch. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, Newmarket, Canibs.— Bow- street, October 18. Stolen from the person of Mr. J. B. Smith, in Aylesbury, on the 12th instant: a silver lever Watch, . EITEGLAEY AH 33 MOUSE BSEAKIIG., Between 7 and 9 p. m. on the lGth instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Edwin Bowler, of Burton- on- Trent, was broken and entered and stolen therein: a small gold Locket, opens on both sides ; two gold Scarf Pins, one snake pattern, the other anchor ditto ; forty old copper Coins, one marked ' E. Bowler'; and a Bottle of Port Wine. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, Stafford- ahire.— Bow- strcet, October 22. Between 12 p. m. on the 18th and 6 a. m. on the 19th inst. instant, a dwelling- house at Huddlesfield, near Lichfield, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a silver Tea Spoon, a silver Fork, three black- handled Knives and Forks, 7 lbs. of Beef, 4 lbs. of Sugar, 2 lbs. of Butter, two Loaves of Bread, and a gilt Tea Caddy. Information to be given to Sergeant Hammond, Shenstone, Lichfield, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 22. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, from a cottage at Bray, Berks ( supposed by a tramp) : a nearly black cloth double- breasted Overcoat, black lining, pocket outside, and nearly new ; a black cloth Jacket, black lining torn on the left side ; a black single- breasted Waistcoat; a pair of light HO; HSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found, on the 12th instant, at Little Brickhill, Bucks, supposed to have been stolen : a bay horse Pony, 4 or 5 years old, about 11 hands high, small white blaze down the face, thick set. black maue aud long tail, hair very long about the legs, shod all round, and in good condition. Supposed stolen during the night of the 12th instant, from au orchard at Dunley, Stourport, Worcestershire, the property of George Partridge : a dark brown cob Horse, about 14 hands 1 inch high, a streak of white down the face, the maue short in the middle, a substance formed on the right bind foot, and in rather low condition. Information to bo giveu to Superintendent Raby, Great Witley, Stourport, or to Sergeant Ganderton, Police Station, Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bou> street, October 20. Found, supposed to have been stolen : a brown Horse, aged, about 14 hands high, bushy mane aud tail, the latter plaited with straw ; saddle marked, and two scars on off hind leg, and in good condition. Information to be given to Ser- geant Hammond, Shenstone, near Lichfield, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 20. Supposed stolen on the night of the 10th instant, from Holtye, in the parish of Hartfield, Sussex : a dark brown Horse, from 13 to 14 hands high, aged, apparently blind in near eye, broken knees, ragged kips, off liiud foot white, saddle marks on both sides of back, and in low [ condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, East Grinstead, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, October 20. Stolen from a field at Bilston, about the 7' h iustant : a bay cart Horse, 6 years old, 1C hands high, aud has a white star on forehead. Also, from the same place, on the 13th instant : a brown- roan cart Horse, aged, 15 hands high, black legs, some small grey spots about the head, long tail and mane, and in good condition, the property of Mr. Mathias Dimmack, Bilston. Information to bo given to Chief Superintendent McCrea, Police Station, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 20. Stolen from a field at Pixley, Herefordshire, about the 7th instant : a half- bred Horse, 3 years old, large hock near side, and a sore on each shoulder, the property of Mr. John Mutlaw, Tarrington. Information to be given to Superin tendent Blunsdon, Police Office, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, October 20. Stolen during the night of the 15th instant, from a yard at Half- Way Farm, near Newbury : a light made grey spotted cart Mare, 6 years old, 15 hands high, with rather flat light fore feet, very handsome, and good action, the pro- perty of Mr. William Tyrrell. £ 20 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the mare, on application to Superintendent Bennett, Police Office, Newbury, Berks. — Bow- street, October 18. Description of JOB HANSON, late a farmer and cattle dealer of Cumberworth Half, Staffordshire, charged on a warrant with stealing a grey Mare ( recovered). He is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, upper front teeth prominent, cut mark on upper lip, and carries his head on one side. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield. — Bow - street, October 18. Absconded on the 8th instant, charged ( on a warrant) with stealing a Lamb : THOMAS HAWKES, 20 years of age, 5 feet 8i inches high, fresh complexion, rather sunburnt brown hair, no whiskers, stoops, and carries his hands in hii pockets; dressed in a dark brown velvet jacket moleskin trousers and veBt, brown fur or hairy cap, and cotton necker- chief ; wears small leather straps on his wrists, he has worked as an excavator, aud in a brickyard. Has friends at Brown- hills aud Bourton- on- the- water ; he generally has with him a brown and white lucher dog. Stolen from a field at Brownhills on the 2nd instant • a red aud white Bullock, aged 2 years, aud in good condition the property of Chas. Woodhouse. Information to be riven to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Wallsall, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, October 15. Stolen from a field by the side of the Rugby Road in the parish of Hinckley, during the night of the 11th iustant • a bay Mare, in foal, 15 hands 2 inches high, 8 years old black legs, rather rough black mane, ragged black tail, cracked heels, runs wide with hind leg*, and in good condition. Also stolen during the same night, from a field in the parish of Burbage: a dark roan mare Pony, about 13| hands high aged, black mane, partly rubbed off, black tail cut square! aud in good condition. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Moore, Constabulary Station, Hinckley, or to the owner, Mr. Edward Lord, butcher, Hinckley, Leicestershire who will pay a reward of £ 10.— Bow- street, October 15. Stolen from Fazeley, near Tamworth, during the fair on the 11th instant, the property of Mr Thomas Holdam' of Warton, Warwickshire ; a daik brown she Mule, 8 years old 12 hands high, small white saddle mark or near side, off hind fetlock white, and iu good coudition. By two men, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather stout, and dark complexion ; dressed iu a light suit, and black felt hat; the other about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, small dark moustache, and no whiskers- dressed jo^ lj. iJothes-. ajid black billycock hat; they are' of Birmingham. Stolen on the night of the 27th ultimo, from a field at Tixall, near Stafford : a light dun Pony, aged, about 12A hands high, dark mark down centre of back, maue cut off, short tail, in good condition, the property of Lady Waterford, Tixall Lodge, near Stafford. A reward of £ 5 will be paid on the recovery of the Pony and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Congreve, Stafford,— Bow- street, October 15. LAHCENY AMD SMBEZZLEMEST. Description of a man charged with stealing a quantity of Wealing Apparel, a portion of which has been recovered, having been sold by him in Shrewsbury on the ICth instant: about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 6 in : hes high, dark hair and slight whiskers ; dressed in dark jacket, pocket outside each skirt ard inside the breast, a double- breasted Vest, dark woollen, with narrow white stripe, a pair of light cloth small plaid trousers, Hy front, with very narrow dark stripe down the side, aud a pair of elastic side boots, plain tops, the bottom of one has been patched at the toe ; he was seen in Shrewsbury about 5 p. m. on the 16th instant, and is a smart, active young man. information to be giveu to Chief Super- intendent Richardson, Wellington, to Sergeant Christie, Newport, or at the County Constabulary Office, Shiewsbury, Salop.— Bow street, October 22. Absconded from Newport, Salop, on the 16th instant, charged with stealing three Coats, two pairs of Trousers, three Waistcoats, five Handkerchiefs, a woollen Shirt, a pair of elastic- side Boots, a billycock Hat, two Neckties, aud 12s. 3d.: PHILIP LECOMBTE, alias LECOMPTE, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, pale complexion, small whiskers; dressed in black cloth coat, light grey trousers with black stripe on outside, double- breasted waistcoat, billy- cock hat, and striped woollen shirt ( all stolen); the other property has been recovered. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richaidson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, October 22. Stolen from a dwelling- house at North Ormeaby, near Middlesbrough, on the 18th instant: a silver verge Watch, maker, S. Thompson, London, No. 1117 ( recovered, having been pledged at Stockton- on- Tees). By a man about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, blue eyes, light hair, fair complexion, aud slender build ; dressed in a daik cloth cap with peak, blue pilot jacket, a drab harden jacket under- neath, dark cloth trousers and vest, and strong boots. He 13 a native of Bircham, Norfolk, and Las worked at Jarrow, Durham, and Newcastle- upon- Tyne in the ship yards. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton, or to Inspector Hobson, Police Station, North Ormesby, Middlesbrough.— How- street, Oct. 22. Stolen on the morning of the 16th instant, from a bed- room at Holyport, Bray : a black cloth Jacket, pockets out- side; and a dark mixture cloth Waistcoat. By a man ( who took lodgings the previous night), 26 yrs. of age, 5 feet 8 ins. high, dark complexion, hair, aud whiskers round the face and under the chin, no moustache ; dressed in a good dark cloth 9 POLICE GAZETTE. October 22 1 overcoat, white smock frock underneath, dark trousers, and felt hat. He was traced as far as Easthampstead, and is supposed to have gone to Aldershot. Information to be given to Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maiden- head.— Low- street, October 20. • Stolen during the night of the 17th instant, from tie dwelling- house of Mr. Consitt, of Cherry Burton : a blue pilot Top Coat, lined with red and white plaid ; and a black cloth Cap. By a mm, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark com- plexion, slight make, and small moustache ; he is supposed to be a native of Cambridge. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Naylor, East Biding Constabulary, Beverley. Bow- street, October 20. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a dwelling- house at Sandbach : a course browu cloth Overcoat, has been mended below the collar between the shoulders, aud has plaid lining. By JAMES HACKNEY, alias SHAW, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh'coniplexion, dark brown hair, aud no whiskers. He is a cutter down at a forge, and has recently resided iu Tunstall. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Station, Middle- wich, or to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Low- street, October 20. Absconded, charged with stealing £ 2 5s., the monies of Mr. Edwin Lardner, of Hemel Hempstead, ou the 14th instant: JOHN SUTTON, a baker, 26 cr 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pale complexion, short light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, stout buiid, and marked on arm with three anchors ; dressed iu light coat, black vest, light trousers, black hat, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Isgate, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boic- street, October 18. Absconded on the 1st instant, from Tunstall, Stafford- shire, charged oil a warrant with embezzling .£ 160, the monies of the North Staffordshire railway Company : WILLIAM LAWRENCE MEDDOWS, alias JAMES MEDHURST, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, black hair and whiskers, full round face, aud fair complexion ; dressed in blue monkey jacket, light cloth trousers, elastic- side boots, black soft felt hat, with broad brim ; he was formerly employed in several theatres in London and Liverpool. Iuformation to be given to Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Stoke- on- Trent, or to Inspector Harris, North Staffordshire Bailway, Stoke- on- Trent.— Low- street, October 18. Abscondtd, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: WILLIAM MORGAN, 36 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, hair ( curly), moustache, and imperial, is near sighted, and generally uses an eye- glass. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. G.— Low- street, October 18. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Newport, Salop, during the night of the 15th instant: two black cloth Coats, one almost new; one browu cloth Great Coat ; pair of light coloured cloth Trousers with black stripes down outside ; a pair of brown cloth Trousers ; a white Waistcoat, a brown ditto, a striped ditto ; a Muffler ; three pocket Handkerchiefs ; a bundle Handkerchiefs ; one woollen Shirt ; pair of elastic side Boots, almost new ; a black billycock Hat ; and 12s. 3d. in money. By a man who went thera to lodge that night; he represented thaf, ha., W ^ hrvvport, as his health had been flhu ; a!? out 20 years of nge, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, very little whiskers, pale complexion, and of smart appear- ance ; wtien he came to Newport he was dressed in light blue serge cloth suit, and a cap with peak, which he has left behind ; also a pair of shoes of superior make aud almost new. He will probably be dressed in part of the stolen pro- perty. Absconded from Hove about the 3rd instant, charged with larceny as a servant: WILLIAM EDWARDS, alias LITTLE PETER, 28 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, round full face, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes, very short legs, and long body; be has been to sea, aud will probably try to go to sea again. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Breach, Town Hall, Hove, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 15. Absconded from Maesmawr, parish of Llandinam, on the morning of the 13lh instant, taking with him a large Sheep Dog, with black and tan legs, answers to the name of Driver': a tramp, about 18 yeare of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, aud dressed in a dark coat, brown trousers, and cap. Information to be given at the Chief Coustable's Office, Newtown, or to Police Constable Pearson, Gaersws, Mont- gomeryshire.— Low- street, October 15. Description of WILLIAM SMITH, alias ' SUNDER- LAND BILL,' a shoemaker, charged at Middlesbrough with larceny : from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender make, dark complexion, hair, and tuft on chin ( turning grey) ; dressed in a brown suit of clothes aud black cloth cap ; he is a native of Sunderland, and well known in the North ; he is a good workman, aud will probably be found working at some first- class boot and shoe maker's shop. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, Chief Constable's Office Borough Police Station, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Low- street, October 15. . Stolen on the 11th instant, from the shop of a jeweller in the city of London : An emerald and brilliant half- hoop Ring, consisting of three emeralds and two brilliants, mounted in gold, rather massive, mark inside ' o g w /- /-.' A brilliant half- hoop Ring, consisting of five brilliants, mounted in silver setliugs with rose points, gold carved shank, marked inside ' o x x /- /-' and ' No. 22122.' And a large single- stone brilliant gipsy Ring, marked inside ' d x x - By a man who called under pretence of purchasing, and sub- stituted rings of inferior value in the tray of rings shewn him in place of the above : 30 to 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8vCbe3 h'gh' darK aud rather florid complexion, small dark whiskers, beard, and moustache ; dressed in dark frock coat, trousers, and vest, high hat, and wears a gold scarf pin, a fox a head, ruby eyes ; has the appearance aui manner of an Irish American. £ 100 reward wi 1 be paid for the appre- hension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the rings, or in proportion to the amount recovered. C.- Low- street, Superintendent Holland, County Police Office, Little Bolton,, Lancashire.— Low- street, October 20. Description of WILLIAM COLLIER, charged ( on a warrant) with stealing, from his lodgings iu Hanley, a double- cased silver verge Watch, Ne. 75128, maker George Fowler, Doncaster, with steel Chain attached ; a hair Guard, with plated mountings; a pair of black Trousers; and a light coloured cloth Vest: he is a miner, 20 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, pale looking, very dark hair; dressed in black jacket, old velvet vest, and blucher boots, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen trousers, as he left a pair behind him ; he is a native of Bolton, and lived in Back Core- street in that town, he has worked at the New Oaks Pit, and lodged at, No. 4, Holland- street, Barnsley, and was sentenced to 2 months hard labour there for felony. He generally lodges at hotels, and will introduce himself by saying that he has been recommended there by some gentleman. He talks freely upon surgery and horse racing, is well known in Croydon, in different parts of Surrey and in Sussex, and has been convicted.
