Description of HENRY HANCOCK, charged ( on a - warrant) with the wilful murder of William Henry Mould, 8 months eld, at Higham, Kent, about the 11th ultimo: 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very dark complexion and hair, heavy black eyebrows meeting over the nose, small Tjlack whiskers, beard, aud moustache, thiu face, high cheek- bones, pointed chin, aud long neck ; dressed in a monkey jacket, dark trousers, double- breasted vest, black and white plaid necktie, aud cap with cheesecutter peak ; he is a native of Chatham, and is likely to seek work at factories or to go. to sea. Stolen from the person in South Shields, on the night of - fche 2nd instant: a patent lever silver Watch, makers G. and T. Davison, Newcastle- on- Tyne, No. 5349, had a gold Albert, square block fancy pattern, stamped ' 10 carat,' and a massive irold Locket, round, and flowered both sides, attached ; also a black felt Hat. On the 4th instant, two houses in the parish of Llanbedr near Ruthin, were broken into, and .£ 3 7s. 6d., a silver Geneva Watch, without the glass, No. 1613, and an old silk Handkerchief, stolen therein. Supposed by two tramps : one about 5 feet 7 inches high; dressed in old monkey jacket, dark trousers, Scotch cap, aud navvy boots. The other about 5 feet 6 inches high, very brown complexion, full face, and no whiskers ; dressed in old brown coat, fustiau trousers, and black cap, with peak. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Police Officc, Ruthin, Denbighshire. — Row- street, October 8. On the 5th instant the dwelling- house of James Lyons, at Shorne, was broken and entered aud stolen therein : an old metal Watch and a pair of new elastic- side Shoes, without nails. By a man about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light sandy hair, no whiskers cr moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, billycock hat, and wearing the stolen shoes. During the night of the 3rd inBtant, the dwelling houee of Mrs. James Norris, of George- street, Hemel Hempstead, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: four silver Table Spoons, ten silver Tea Spoons, a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, and a silver Mustard Spoon, all plain, old, and much worn ; twelve plated Forks, six large, six small ; six plated Dessert Spoons ; a dark brown cotton Umbrella, nearly new, with plain handle ; and a pair of man's Slippers. During the night of the 2nd instant, Blue Hall, the residence of Mr. Joseph Hodgson, at Old Linthorpe, Mid- dlesbrough, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : an English Gold lever Watch, small sizs, gold dial, jewelled iu four holes, No. 63,238, and flowered back ; a blue pilot cloth Jacket, double- breasted, blick horn buttons, black velvet collar, two vents behind, three pockets outside, one inside left breast, lined with Magenta and black plaid, and bound with black braid ; and a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, three pockets outside, one inside left breast, black velvet collar, and dark linings. £ 1 reward will be paid on recovery of the property, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Between 12 and 2 o'clock on the night of the 2!) th ultimo, a cottage at the flat, in the parish of Westbury- on- Severn, was broken and entered, and a pair of dark mixture Trousers, flap fronts, one brace button off waist, lined with unbleached twill; a loaf of Bread ; three or four pounds of Cheese; and a small Bottle of pickled Cabbage, stolen therein : a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, very thin, and loDg pale features ; dressed in dirty brown coat, buttoned' tight round body, ditty brown trousers, and thin boots, was seen leaving the premises, and carrying a small bundle. In- formation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Police Station, Gloucester.— bow- street, October 4. Further information respecting the lKuse- breaking at the house of Thomas Apps, of Wadhurst, Sussex, advertised in the Police Gazette of the let instant. The Post Office Saving's Bank Book, blue stuff Dress, and a portion of the Money have been found iu the house, not stolen. The Pro- perty stolen consists of a large jet Brooch ; a brown Purse, with clasp ; a small Purse, with elastic band ; a large dark stone Brooch, set in imitation gold ; a snake Brooch, imitation gold ; a set of black Sleeve Links ; a silver Watch, with consular case, and Chain attached ; aud about £ ro in Money. Information to be given to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, to Sergeant Avery, Court House, Mark Cross, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, October 4. On the 23rd instant, the dwelling- hor. se of Mrs. Price of Cross lanes, near Wrexham, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a Suit of black cloth, man's Biie, the coat aud vest braided ; a pair of Trousers and a Vest, of a very light grey cloth ; a dark grey Coat ; a Top- coat, with red aud black plaid lining ; a paii of Trousers and " Vest, of a pepper and salt coloured cloth ; a silver Watch ; and a white table Cloth. Supposed by two tramps, one about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 cr 8 inches high ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, white fustian trousers, and hairy cap ; the other about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair; dressed in a large top- coat, aud jimcrow hat, turned up at sides. Two tramps of the above description passed through Nant- v ich on the 24th instant, and there disposed of a pair of black cloth trousers ; they had with them a watch aud over- coat, and a new black cloth coat and vest, and went on the way for Crewe or the potteries ; they applied for work at a brick- field near the town, and stated dial they should pledge the thiugs they had with them, at Crewe or iu the potteries, if they did not get work. Description of a man who gave the name of THOMAS LEE, charged with housebreaking at Northallerton, and remanded until the 29th instant: 24 years of age, 5 feet 6J inches high, light brown hair, blue eyes, sallow com- plexion, proportionate make, small light moustache, and two moles on back ; dressed in a grey cloth jacket, black cloth vest, moleskin trousers, billycock hat, and lace- up boots, all worn ; he states he is a native of Market Harborough, and resided at No. 29, Charles- street there up to about six years ago ; he has been working at the Oaks Colliery, Barnsley, aud other places in Yorkshire. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, North Riding Constabu- lary, Northallerton.— Bow- street, September 27. HORSE MD CATTLE STEALING. Left on Wherwell Fair Ground, on the 24th Ultimo, and supposed to have been stolen : nine Ewes, marked with a red and bluo dot on the rump and a blue dot on the shoulder, and in very low condition. Information to be givon to Superintendent Fey, Police Station, Andover, Hunts.— Bow- street, October 8. Stolen from a firld at Brownhills, on the 2nd instant: a dark brown Cart Mare, 15£ hands - high, bushy tail, white streak down the face, stiff make, and in good condition, the property of Thomas Woodhouse, farmer, Brownhills Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 8. Found at Sandhills, near Brownhills, on the 1st instant, and supposed to have been stolen : twenty- five black- faced Sheep. Now in the possession of Mr. Brawn, farmer, Sandhills. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Oct. 8. Stolen on the night of the 30th ultimo, from a field at Lower Beech : a 4- year old brown Filly, three parts bred, a slight scar inside right hock, about 15 hands high, tail slightly cut, and shod. £ 10 reward will be paid on recovery of the Filly and conviction of the offender or offenders, on applica- tion to Mr. Eaton, or to Superintendent Dale, County Police, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- sti eet, October 6. Stolen from a field at Chatham, on the night of the 30th ultimo : a very old well bred bay Mare, about 15 hands high, 9 POLICE GAZETTE. October 22 dressed in a drab jacket, nearly new, old brown velveteen gaiters, dark soft hat, and button boots ; he has the appear- vest, old drab trousers, black billycock hat, and Btrong lace- . ance of a broken down farmer, and is supposed to have been up boots. He is generally employed at thrashing machines, , convicted in Somersetshire of a similar offence in January and sleeps at low beer- shops or common lodging- houses. He last in the name of WILLIAM WHITE. Information to is supposed to have gone in the direction of Boston and be given to Superintendent Brown, Dorset Constabulary Spaldiug. Supposed to have been stolen, on the 30th ultimo, from a field at Lower Gomal, Sedgley : a black cob Mare, 4 years old, 14i hinds high, small wiiite star on the forehead, bang tail, and in good condition, the property of Mr. Gabriel J ones. Information to be given to Inspector Tomlinson, Police Office, Sedgley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 6. Stolen from a field at Aberloym, Llandyrnog, on the night of the 2Sth ultimo : a light bay Mare, in very condi- tion, 15^ hands high, and about 8 years old, the property of Mr. D. Evans. Information to be given to Superintendent Ludge, County Police Office, Denbigh.— Boic- street, October 6. Found at Headington Hill, near Oxford, on the 10th of August last, supposed to have been stolen : a valuable bay nag Horse, about 7 years old, 15 hands 2 inches hi* h, star on forehead, one forefoot white, the other grey, the off hind foot white, tail cut square, small scar on off hip, and three small • white marks on the back. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, or to Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, October 4. Stolen from a sheepfold at Rushall, the property of Mr. Alfred Stratton, since the 7th ultimo : seven Hampshire Down six- tooth Ewes, marked'S' in red paint on the near hip. " Whoever shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Sheep, shall receive £ 5 reward. Found at Penkridge, and supposed to have been stolen : a black horse Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, white spots on back, short mane and tail, and in good condition. Description of WILLIAM SMITH, alias NOBBY CLARKE, a navvy, charged ( on a warrant) with stealiug a silver Geneva Watch and a German verge ditto : 3G years of age, 5 feet G inches high, stout, fresh complexion, sandy hair and whiskers, clean shaven under chin ; dressed in brown slop, corduroy breeches, blue stockings, and black billycock hat; has been injured on one leg. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Brno- street, October 8. Description of WILLIAM THOMAS, charged with stealing on the 25th ultimo £ 4 10s., the monies of Mary Thomas, from a house at Aymestrey : 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, erect figure, fresh complexion, brown hair, light whiskers, and tuft tn chip ; dressed in dark coat and vest, dark or blue trousers, hard felt hat, and strong high boots. He has worked for some years at the works at Abergavenny, or Blaenavon, South Wales. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster, Hereford, or to Sergeant Philpotts, Polite Station, Wigmore, who holds a warraut for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, September 8. Absconded on the 17th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: WILLIAM ROBERT OSWELL, late of 25, Goldsmith's- place, Highbury : 25 3 ears of age, 5 ft. 10 inches high, large full face, pale complexii n, slight moustache and whiskers ( black), cl. in shaved, large hands and splay footed ; dressed in black frock coar., spe; kled trousers, and high hat. Absconded from Stafford, charged with stealing a black cloth Jacket ( recovered), and a pair of lad)' 3 new Morocco Boots : a man, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, full pale face, dark brown hair, and cast in right eye ; dressed in a short black cloth jacket, grey striped vest, peppsr- and- salt- coloured tweed trousers, side- spring boots, lately half- soled and heeled and cut in the tops, and black billycock hat. He was born in Belfast of Irish parents, who are now residing at Leicester ; he is a shoemaker, and is well known in Birming- ham, Nottingham, and Leicester. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, Oc'ober 6. Description of EDWIN LINDRIDGE, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 5 4s. 7d., the mon'es of Messrs. Golding and Co. : a grocer's porter, and has leen a seaman, 32 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, worn long and parted behind, tattoo marls on ban!, and a ship on one arm ; dressed in dark grey suit, and b'ask felt hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bou.- sireet, October 4. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, charged with embezzle- ment : JOHN SMITH, late a brewer's collector at Sheffield, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, dark hair, whiskers, moustache, and complexion, and dark brown eyes; dressed in a dark mixture suit, and generally wears a low- crowned felt hat; he is a native of Sheffield. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield, York- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 4, Stolen from a cash- box in the bed- room of Benjamin Pollard, shopkeeper, of Shanklin, Isle of Wight, between 10 am. and 5 p. m. on the 29th ultimo : .£ 33 in Sovereigns and Half- sovereigns. By a fashionably dressed woman, who gave the name of BERTRAM, who represented that her grandparents were stopping at another house in the town, she took lodgings in the house for four nights : she is 24 or 25 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, light brown hair, rather round full face, pale, and slightly pockpitted under her eyes; dressed in a black felt hat, trimmed with a dark blue scarf and feather, grey felt dress, and waterproof cloak; she left behind her a grey felt jacket, to match the dress, trimmed with a darker felt, dark ball fringe, and large metal buttons ; she took lodgings in four other plices in the town, and is also charged with stealing a new pair of fancy shoes, the property of William Warne, which were afterwards found left as a deposit at one of the houses where she had taken lodgings, Information to be given to Superintendent Horan, Hants Constabulary, Newport, Isle of Wight, who hclds a warrant for her apprehension, or to Sergeant Rapkins, Sandown, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, October 4. Description of a tramping labourer, charged with steal- ing a silver Watch ( since recovered) : about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender build, grey hair and whiskers, ehaves under chin, and ' A. C.' tattooed on the left arm; Absconded: JOHN WILLIAM DOBSON, charged with Embezzlement; he is a commercial clerk, about 35 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light hair, ruddy com- plexion, red neck, light whiskers and moustache, clean shaved on the chin ; dressed in dark tweed suit, light summer overcoat, and haul felt hat. He is a native of Mintworth, near Rotherham, Yorkshire. Information to be given at the Central Police Office, Sheffield.— Bow- street, October 1. Stolen from a cashbox in the bedroom of Benjamin Pollard, shopkeeper, of Shanklin, between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 29th ultimo : £ 33 in Sovereigns and Half- sovereigns. By a fashionably dressed female who had taken lodgings at the house for four nights : 24 or 25 years of age, rather short, light brown hair, pale face, slightly pockpitted under her eyes; dressed in a black hat trimmed with a dark blue scarf, grey dress, and long waterproof cloak ; she left behind her a light cloth jacket trimmed with ball fringe.
