No. 5729 WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1875. CONTAINING Tht substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of m aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other mark* of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate at possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. FOLIC Notice.— It is requested that all communications lor the • purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Sign& tsire of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is gives, it is indispensably ne< 3ssary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORM AT IONS. MURDEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUIDING. Absconded from Middlesborough on the 22nd instant, charged with assaulting and inflicting grevious bodily harm : JAMES CONWAY, a bricklayer, a native of Malton, of Irish parents, 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, thin face, hazel eyes, and stoops a little ; he booked by train from Middlesborough, on the 22nd instant, for Sunderland, in company with two other bricklayers. In- formation to be given to Chief Constable Saggersou, Middles- borougb, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- slreet, September 29. Description of GEORGE WESTLEY, labourer and drover, of Burton Latimer, who absconded on the 21st inst-., charged with stabbing Josiah Dent, at Burton Latimer, on the 21st instant : 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, very light hair, very small whiskers, fresh look- ing, and very upright; dressed in a short grey coat, cord trousers, and soft black billycock hat. He may also have a dark grey coat with him, and be wearing an alpaca coat. Information to be given to Superintendent Stoker, Police Office, Kettering, Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 24. ROBBERY 4ND LAEOEKY TBMM, THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Monmouth Races, on the 23rd instant: a gold keyless lever Watch; and a silver lever " Watch, No. 7827, owner's name ' George Jones' marked on inner case. Stolen from the person of a lady at the Oswestry Agri- cultural Show on the 24th instant: a small gold Geneva Watch, white dial, ' E. H.' on the outside case, and ' E. A Bilver lever hunting Watch, No. 16990. Information to be given to Chief Constable Gregory, Don caster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen from the person in Crewe, on the 18th instant: a silver lever Watch, maker James Topham, Nantwich, No. 9917 ; and a gold Geneva Watch, plain white dial, steel hands, and centre seconds, had attached a gold albert curb j ' liairi. Information to be given to Superintendent Saxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Railway Station, Doncaster, about 6' 40 p. m. on the 17th instant : an English gold lever Watch, No. either 2080 or 20801, white enamelled sunk dial, centre seconds, and stopper. Two guineas reward will be paid on the recovery of the Watch, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Chief Constable's Office, Hull.— Bow- street, September 20. Stolen on the evening of the 14th instant, from the per- son of Mr. J. Rod, on the Town Pier, Gravesend : a gold hunting Watch, No. 26538. Information to be given to Mr. George Berry, Chief Constable, Town Hall, Gravesend.— Bow- street, September 20. BURGLARY AMD HOUSE BREAKING. On the! 23rd| instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Price, of Cross- lanes, near Wrexham, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a Suit of bla& k cloth, man's size, the coat and vest braided ; a pair of Trousers and a Yest, of a very light grey cloth; a dark grey Coat ; a Top- coat, with red and black plaid lining ; a pail of Trousers and Yest, of a pepper and salt coloured cloth ; a silver Watch ; and a white table Cloth. Supposed by two tramps, one about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 cr 8 inches high ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, white fustian trousers, and hairy cap ; the other about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair; dressed in a large top- coat, and jimcrow hat, turned up at sides. Two tramps of the above description passed through Nant- wich on the 24th instant, and there disposed of a pair of black cloth trousers ; they had with them a watch and over- coat, and a new black cloth coat and vest, and went on the way for Crewe or the potteries ; they applied for work at a brick- field near the town; and stated that they should pledge the thiugs they had with them, at Crewe or in the potteries, if they did not get work. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Police Station, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- street, September 29. Description of a man who gave the name of THOMAS LEE, charged with housebreaking at Northallerton, and remanded until the 29th instant: 24 years of age, 5 feet 63; inches high, light brown hair, blue eyes, sallow com- plexion, proportionate make, small light moustache, and two moles on back; dressed in a grey cloth jacket, black cloth vest, moleskin trousers, billycock hat, and lace- up boots, all worn ; he states he is a native of Market Harborough, and resided at No. 29, Charles- street there up to about six years ago ; he has been working at the Oaks Colliery, Barnsley, and other places in Yorkshire. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, North Riding Constabu- lary, Northallerton.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen on the 22nd instant, by means of housebreaking, the property of Mr. Isaac Gilbert, at Beckley, Sussex : a Wedding Ring and Keeper ; a Dress Bing, set with hair, marked ' Andrew' inside ; a Mourning Ring ; a gold Brooch, set with twenty- nine pearls ( one missing) ; a small gold framed Brooch ; two gilt Brooches, one with pebble ; a large white Brooch, silver- gilt; a pair of gold loop Ear- rings, one broken ; a pair of jet Ear- rings; a jet Broach ; and a gilt Watch Guard. Information to be given to Superintendent Jeffery, Guestling, or to Sergeant Campany, Beckley, Sussex, or any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, Sept. 27. Stolen by means of burglary, on the 22nd instant, from Messrs. Steers and Adams, drapers, Brighton : ten sealskin Jackets, value .£ 100, each jacket has a label inside the collar, with ' Steers and Adams' on it. i/ 25 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount of property recovered. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, September 27. On the night of the 19 th instant, the house of Mr. Henry Charles Reed, in the borough of Kingston- upon- Hull, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver Geneva Watch, small size, No. 30518, with gold Guard, diamond cut pattern ; a black ribbed cloth Coat and Vest; a black cloth Coat, much worn ; a blue cloth Coat, collar torn ; a grey Scotch plaid mixture double- breasted Vest; an amber- coloured mixture Vest; two common Brooches ; and a claw pattern . meerschaum Pipe. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull.— Bow- street, September 24. Description of a man committed for trial at the quarter sessions for the county of Northampton, on the 20th proximo, on four charges of. housebreaking : JOSEPH TOMLIN, of Cambridge, rivetter and leather cutter, 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, light bair, brown moustache, no whiskers, scar on forehead and left hand, and mole on back ; dressed in black overcoat, with velvet collar and pockets at Bide, light check mixture cloth trousers and vest, light check necktie, high silk hat, aud side- spring boots. He had in his possession when apprehended 46 skeleton keys and a jemmy. Information to be given to Superintendent Nor- man, Police Office, Towcester, Northamptonshire.— Bow- slreet, September 22, The dwelling- house of John IniDgs, of Common Wood, Holt, was broken and entered on the 16th instant, and the following articles stolen therein : a black cloth Coat and Vest, pockets outside ; a hoy's grey Coat; a Paisley scarf Shawl, with white centre ; a lady's grey waterproof Cloak ; two pairs of ladies' grey lambswool Stockings ; and a bunch of Keys, about eight in number. Two men of the following description, supposed to be tramps, are suspected : one about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, and dressed in dark clothes ; the other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, and dressed in Scotch cap with knob on the top, and dirty grey cloth clothes. Information to be given to Inspector Wilde, Police Station, Wrexham, Denbighshire — Bow- street, September 22. Between 12 and 6 p. m. on the 16th instant, the house of William Hope, Framfield, Sussex, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a lady's black horse- hair watch Guard, with gold slides; a gold Locket and small Knife attached ; a silver Thimble ; a pair of gold Ear- rings ; a pair of black Bracelets ; a gold scarf Pin; a large silver Brooch, with four pebbles in centre ; about 15s. in silver and copper Monies ; a brown morocco Purse, containing silver and copper foreign Coins ; a pair of woman's black kid Gloves; a black jet watch Chain with silver Locket attached; a gold plated Brooch ; and a pair of new gold Ear- rings. Supposed by a man, 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale com- plexion, light hair, and a few light whiskers ; dressed in a dark coat and vest, light trousers, white shirt, dark cork hat, and light balmoral boots: he was carrying a small bundle. Information to be given to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfleld, Sussex, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, September 22. Between 11 a. m. and 2 p. m., on the 15th instant, the dwelling- house of„. Henry Hutchenson, at Wartling, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, a small French gold Watch, ' Paris' written inside, the inside is broken away from the case and has no glass; two black vulcanite Albert Chains ; a small Time- piece, taken out of the case, with a riDg on top ; a single steel Bracelet, with broken silver clasp-;' - a silver Thimble; and a pair of . long old- fashioned gold Ear- rings. Supposed bya man 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, and dark complexion ; dressed in a dark Jacket, grey trousers, and hard black hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, or at any Police Station, in the East Sussex Constabulary.— Bow- street, September 20. HOUSE AMD CATTLE STEALING: Stolen from Brynmawr on the 23rd instant : a cream- coloured Mare, about 13 hands high, rising 4 years, carries her tail on off side, brushes on hind fetlock, black mane and tail, mane rubbed by collar, and in rather low condition; the property of Mr. Jonah Weeks, butcher, Brynmawr, Brecon. Information to be given to Superintendent Evans, Crick- howell, or to Serjeant Joseph, Police StatioD, Brynmawr, Breconshire, S. W.— Bow- street, September 27. Description of a man named JAMES DENSTON, charged with disposing of a Horse, the property of Thomas Whiting, of Emberton, and fraudulently converting the money to his own use : about 42 years of age, 6 feet H inch high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, slight whiskers, has a scar on upper lip, and one oa the bottom of back, and stoops when walking ; dressed in a long dark grey tight fitting overcoat, dark trousers, black billycock hat, low shoes, much worn, and white socks ; usually employed as a jobbing horsebreaker. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Northampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, S plember 27. Found, supposed to have been stolen: a dark brown mare Pony, aged, 12 hands high, and black legs. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Wor- cestershire.— Bow- street, September 27. Description of THOMAS GREY, alias EMMITT CLAYTON, alias THOMAS BYWATER, committed for trial at Lincoln Quarter Sessions, on the 22nd proximo, on a charge of horse stealing : he is 27 years of age, looka younger, 5 feet 3j- inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, rather long face, whiskers shaved off, and has a scar on the elbow jstnt of right arm, about the size of a shilling ; dressed in cord trousers, old grey cloth jacket, and grey worsted cap ; he sometimes works as a chair bottomer, associates with gipsies and horse dealers, and travels with a woman who has a pedlar's certificate for the West Riding of Yorkshire; he is supposed to be known in Birkenhead as Thomas Bywater, sometimes pretends to be deaf and dumb, and carries a slate on which he writes a petition, and calls at houses to beg ; he says his proper name is Emmitt Clayton, aud that he has a relative a heater, at some ironworks, Jarrow- on- Tyne, and that he is a native of Gateshead, where he lived till recently. Description of a man charged with stealing a Horse ( recovered) : 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, datk com- plexion, hair ( partly bald), and whiskers; dressed in a brown striped cutaway coat, light tight- fitting trousers, blue necker- chief with white spot, and carries a short cane; a horse coper, and attends horse fairs, sales, & c,— Metropolitan Police, T Division, September 24, POLICE GAZETTE. September 29 Stolen from a stable at Park Hill, Moseley, on the 20th wxth steal ng a quantity of Hemp on the 28th ultimo the instant: a chestnut half- bred Horse, 7 years old, about property of the Hull Dock Company : about £ 30 years o 15i hands high, white mark down face, and small white | age, 5 feet 9 inches liigh, slender make, dark brown straight streak down ribs on the near side; also a Saddle and Bridle, nearly new ; the property of Mr. Joseph Nichols. Also, the same night, from King's Norton : a light red- roan van Horse, hands bigh, rising 3 years old, high cheekbone on off side, and small side bone on one fore foot; and a dark brown cob Mare, 14 hands high, 5 years old, scar on each hock, and cut over right eye ; the property of Messrs. A. Jones and John Pope. Information to be given to Superintendent Humphries, Police Station, King's Heath,, near Birmingham,— Bow- street, September 24. Stolen from a field in Wisbech, on the night of the 19th instant : a bright bay cart Mare, 7 years old, has an iron plate on the toe of one hind foot, and a small white star on forehead. Information to be given to Head Constable Sharpe, Wisbech, Isle of Ely.— Bow- street, September 22. Supposed to have been stolen, from Setterston, on the night of the 17th instant, the property of John Worthington, ot Glynamel, Fishguard, Pembrokeshire : a powerful black Oob, 3 years old, 15 hands high, a narrow white blaze down the face, lias been docked, and is in good condition. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent and Deputy Chief Constable Jones, or to Chief Constable Stokes, Constabulary Office, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 22. Stolen from Barnsdale, near Pontefract, Yorkshire, on the night of the 19th instant : an iron- grey Horse, 4 years old, 15 hands 1 inch high, carries the tail on off side when walking, and has had a new shoe put on right fore foot, the property of John Parkin, farmer. Information to be given to Inspector Boshier, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefact, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen from Hook Quay, Langum, on the 15th instant : a bay Horse, 10 years old, 16 hands high, white star on fore- head, white on off hind leg, steps awkwardly, throws forelegs across aud outwards when walkingwas sold at Maenclochog Fair, the day after it was stolen, to a hawker of baskets travel- ling with a van. Information to be'given to Chief Constable Stokes, Haverfordwest, or to Inspector Clarke, Chief Con- stable's Offices, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.— Row- street, September 22. Strayed from a field at Llangadog, Carmarthenshire, during the night of the 13th instant, the property of Mr. David Davies, Lampeter: an aged white Mare, between 13 and 14 hands high, rather short tail, and has a spavin in the hind legs. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Llaudyssul, or to Sergeant Roberts, Lampeter, Car- marthenshire.— Bow- street, September 22. Description of a dark brown Horse, in the possession of the Northampton Borough Police : 7 years old, 15 hands high, short thick body, white star on forehead, long tail, black legs, hind fetlocks white, and a lew grey hairs on near side of hind quarters. The horse is supposed to have been stolen by a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slight build, pale complexion, dark whiskers, and has a cast in one eye; dressed in a dark grey suit, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, North- ampton.— Bow- street, September 20. IAEC| 1Y A1B EMBEZZLSBIEMT. CATHERINE COYLE, late of Wrexham; advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 16th July last, as not having sur- rendered to take her trial at the last Denbighshire Quarter Sessions, for larceny, is still at large. She may be found hawking fruit in fairs and markets. Information to be given to Superintendent Hammonds, Constabulary Office, Llanwrst, North Wales, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, September 29. Absconded from Weston- super- Mare, on the 25th inst., charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 34 4s. 8d., the monies of Mr. W. E. Thomson : GEORGE VOISEY, a clerk, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, fresh complexion, and full hazel eyes ; he is suffering from lumbago, and walks with a stick ; dressed iu a black hard bowler hat, dark cloth suit, of respectable appearance, and is fond of billiards ; will probably endeavour to emigrate to America. One Guinea reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillbanks, Somerset Constabulary, Axbridge, or to Sergeant Hard wick, Weston- super- Mare, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 29. Absconded from Eton on the 20th instant, a shoemaker, hair, whiskers, and moustache, rather round shoulders, fresh complexion, and lost one front tooth; dressed in a dark mix- ture suit and billycock hat. .£ 10 reward has been offered for bis apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Cook, Chief Constable's Office, Hull, Yorkshire— Bow- street, September 24. ^ Description of THOMAS PEARSON, carpenter, who absconded from Whittington Inn, Kinver, on the 20th inst., charged with stealing a cash Box, containing £ 25, and a Post Office Bank Book : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender build, light complexion, email whiskers, light brown hair, long thin face, with dent on left side of his nose. Information to be given to Inspector McCrea, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 24. Stolen from New Shoreham, on the 17th instant : a Russian leather Purse, containing £ 13 15s. Id., the property of Mrs. Sarah Garwood. By a fashionably dressed female, who gave the name of BERTRAM, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light auburn hair, worn in one plait down the back, and slightly pockpitted ; dressed in pink and drab striped skirt, pink body, black silk apron and sash, black silk jacket, with open sleeves, black felt hat, trimmed with mauve silk, a fashionable broad silver neck- lace and a broad ring on her finger, with three or four dark Stones in it; she carried a violet coloured bag, with steel clasp. She was traced to Brighton, where she purchased a drab felt costume, with mimic ball fringe, and a waterproof mantle. Information to be given to Superintendent Parnell, West Sussex Constabulary, Steyning, or to Sergeant Silvester, Police Station, Shoreham, Sussex, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, September 24. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, from Pall Mall, stealing £ 1,100: OTTO WEATHERHEAD, late clerk in the Cheque Bank : 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, freckled Complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and beard, and slight brown moustache, slightly projecting teeth in upper jaw, and had with him a portmanteau and a hat box. Warrant issued. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard.— Bow- street, September 24. Stolen from Shorncliffe Camp, by JAMES CUMMINS, alias MILES BURKE ( in custody on another charge), and disposed of between Shorncliffe Camp and Newport, Salop, between the 13th and 28th July last: a gentleman's plain open face gold Watch, chased back, maker's name Mimpriss, St. James's- street, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Dewar, Police Station, Seabrook, Sandgate, Kent.— Bow- street, September 22. Abseonded from Middlesborough on the 18th instant, charged with stealing £ 20 : a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, pro- portionate build, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache; dressed in old cloth coat and vest, old moleskin trousers, and cloth cap; he is a mill furnaceman, a native of Rhymney, Monmouthshire, and is of drunken habits. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 22. Description of CHRISTINA M'KENZIE, charged with theft, and a native of Edinburgh : about 26 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, oval face, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and small nose ; is a returned convict, having been liberated from the General Prison, Perth, on tbe 5th Novem- ber, 1874, on a license which is still current. Information to be given to Robert Laidlaw Stuart, Esq., Procurator- Fiscal, Edinburgh, or to the Superintendent of the Edinburgh City Police.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen on 20th inst., from| a public- house at Stamford, pro- perty of A. Description of ANN THOMPSON, alias ANN ASCOTT, who was discharged from Stafford Gaol on the 7th October, 1873, under police supervision until the 6th October, 1878, and who has left her residence at Burntwood, near Lichfield, without notifying the same to the police, as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, light brown hair, cut mark on back° of left hand, mole on the left of mouth and on back of neck ; generally dresses fairly, looks clean, and is supposed to be with John Allen, an ex- police constable of Staffordshire. She generally wears a wedding- ring, and will probably call herself ' Allen.' Alien has lately worked as a colliery labourer, is a native of a place near Cambridge, but will probably be' found at a colliery.
