MUEBEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING- A warrant is issued for the apprehension of THOMAS MAGSON, who was released from custody at Kirby Moor- side, on the 21st instant, on his own, recognizance to appear before the Justices on the 25th instant and absconded, charged with maliciously wounding Mr. Richard Bramall, • schoolmaster, Nunnington, on the night of the 16st instant: lie is 42 years of age, 5 feet 11J inches higb, grey eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, full sandy beard, whiskers, and moustache, thin features, and slender make ; he is a native of Nunnington, which place he left on the morning of the 25th instant, and took train at Hovingham Morthward; ^ igdressed in brown cloth coat and Vest, fustian trousers, • ancTbJack billycock hat; had with him a guano hag, contain- ing wearing apparel; he has worked at Middlesbrough, Stockton, au£ Hartlepool, at iron works, ship yards, & c. Information to be given to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary Office, Kirby Moorside, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 27. FORGERY. Absconded on the 31st ultimo, charged with forgery and SteaMug a large sum of Money, the property of his employers WILLIAM WIDDOWSON, late manager of a branch bank in Sheffield, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, brown hair,- small whiskers, is slightly built, and appeared to be suffering from nervous debility ; he is a native of Barlbrougb, but has resided for some years in Sheffield ; generally wears a short coat, light trousers, and felt hat, and had in his possession, when he absconded, a black leather travelling bag and a portmanteau ; It is supposed that he will endeavour to leave the countiy. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- slreet, Sep- tember 6. the parish of Eccleshall, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of lace- up Boots, recently soled ; two cotton Shirts, one nearly new ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new ; a pair of dark grey Trousers ; a pair of light cord Trousers; a woollen plaid Shawl, small size, black, red, and white ; three silk Handkerchiefs, a fox's head in centre of one, with green and red plaid, one with yellow and green ; and 19s. in Silver. Supposed by a man, about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in a black sammy hat, dark jacket, light cord trousers, and heavy lace- up boots. He was traced to Stoke in the potteries. Informa tion to be given to Superintendent Crisp, Stone, or to Sergeant Hall, Police Station, Eccleshall, Staffordshire.— Bm- street, Septembir 3. The dwelling- house of Mr. Solomon Fellows, of Ettingshall, near Bilston, was broken and entered between 11 p. m. on the 29th and 6 a. m. on the 30th ultimo, and stolen therein: two black cloth Jackets, ' Phillips, Queen- street, Wolverhampton,' stamped on collar strap ; a black and white tweed Jacket; a lady's grey waterproof Cloak ; a dark grey waterproof Overcoat; a white silk Pocket- hand- kerchief, with blue border; a light- coloured ditto, with flowered border ; a pair of lady's elastic- side kid Boots, with caps on toes ; two pairs of men's elastic- side Boots, recently tapped ; a dark woollen Shawl, with puce border, some of the friDge off; an eight- day Timepiece, gilt; and a ' Little Belle' Sewing Machine. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent McCrca, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire, — Bow- street, September 3. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in York, on the night of the 25th instant: a pair of gold Ear- rings, carbuncles in centre, surrounded with garnets; a jet and pink cameo Brooch and Ear- rings; and a circular silver Brooch, set with Derbyshire spar. Information to be given to Chief Constable Haley, York.— Bow street, August 30. Between 12 p. m. and 6 a. m. of the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Elizabeth Page, 12, Shornden- villa, St. Leonards, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a fancy leather Work Bag, an old small Pocket Book; a Half- crown, George II, 1746 ; a Shilling, George II, 1758 ; a Farthing of the reign of King Charles, a small gold Coin, a gold Thimble, a silver Coin, and a German Coin. Also, during the same night, the dwelling- house of C. L. Smith, 10, Shornden- villa, was broken and entered and stolen therein : six metal - Tea Spoons, a Carving Fork, three Table Knives, a pair of man's half Boots, and a black Mackintosh Coat. Information to be given to Superintendent Jeffery, Guestling, near Hastings, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bm- stree', August 30. Ellis, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Welshpool.— Bow- street, September 3. Stolen from St. Mary Hill Fair, Glamorganshire, on the 26th ultimo, a mare Pony and Colt: the Mare is about 4 years old, chestnut colour, white streak down the forehead, mane a little lighter than the body, the part near the ears is shorter than the back part, the tail is cut square and long, short legs, stout build, full in centre of back, saddle mark on shoulder, and very quiet; the Colt is about 15 weeks old, dark brown colour, with small head, dark brown mane and tail with a few grey hairs, and one hind leg is supposed to have a white fetlock. Stolen from a field at Moseley, near Birmingham, during the night of tho 26th instant: a handsome dappled strong half- bred grey Mare, about 16 hands high, and 5 years old, the property of Mr. S. J. Chew. Information to be given to Superintendent Humphries, King's Heath, near Birmingham. — Bow- street, August 30. Description of ELIZABETH BEVANS, a boatwoman, who is charged with stealing a boat Horse ( since recovered), the property of Joseph Davies, of Runcorn : she is about 40 years of age, 5 feet high, rather slender, slightly pock- pitted in the face, and has a blue ' nark about an inch long over the right eye; dressed in bla k dress and grey shawl; she is of drunken habits, and is well known on the canal at Derby, Wolverhampton, Stafford, and Runcorn. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, County Police, Middlewich, Chester, who holds a warrant for her appre- hension.— Bm- street, August 30. HORSE AMD CATTLE STEALING. Stolen since the 22nd July, the property of Mr. Charles Lloyd, TyddyD, farmer, in the parish of Llanfawr, Montgo- meryshire : a light brown entire Ass, 14 years old, had a small patch of hair rubbed off about 3 or 4 iuches from the tail. Information to be given to Police Constable Breeze, Llanfawr, or to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgo- meryshire.— Bow street, September 8. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Chester Road Railway Station, near Sutton Coldfield, on the 31st ultimo : an English lever Watch, moderate size, engine- turned, worn smooth at back of outside case, capped and jewelled, gold hands, No. 9383, maker's name ' Johnson, Darlington,' on plate. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Police Office, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, September 3. Stolen from the person on Oxford Race Course, on the 19th instant: a gold English lever Watch, No. 27497. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, August 30. Stolen from the person, in York, during the 24tlr, 25th, and 26th instant: A gold lever Watch, gold dial, ' steel hands, chased back, rose and spade engraved thereon, the rose embossed at tho edges, outer case 18 carat gold, brass dome, No. 96716. A gold Lever, plain cases, white dial, gold hands, centre seconds, maker's name ' W. H. Whalley, Blackburn,' No. 966, ' John Thompson,' engraved on inside of outer case, and ' J. T.' outside of outer case. £ 5 reward will be paid on its recovery and conviction of the offender or offenders. And a silver Lever, silver dial, gold figures, a pig engraved on inner case, No. 12451. Between 9 a. m. and 12.15 p. m. on the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of William Perry, labourer, ® f Badenhall, in Stolen from a shed, at Park End, near Middlesbrough, during the night of the 6th instant: a dark bay Mare, 5 yrs. old, 15 hands 1 inch high, star on forehead, off hind hoof tipped with white, nearly thorough- bred, in good condition, and newly shod, the property of John Stevenson, Esq. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton, or to Inspector Robson, Police Station, North Ormesby, Middlesbrough.— Bow- street, September 8. Stolen from a field at Horningsham, Wilts, on tho 2nd instant, tbe property of Edward Wilkins : a dark brown Pony,, 14 hands higb, aged, small lump on the off foreleg, prominent forehead, with white star, stiff in the hind quarters, bang tail, cut square. Stolen from Hednesford, on the 23rd ultimo : a dark brown horse Pony, aged, 13 hands high, short tail, saddle mark on back, cut on fore feet, the property of Joseph KiDg, Lawley- streel, Dudley. Stolen from a field at Pentreclwyd, Glyn Neath, during the night of the 31st ultimo : a light bay Mare, 6 years old, about 15 hands high, white face, hind feet white, and a lump on ® ne hind leg near the hock, the property of Thos. Morgan, of Rhygos Farm. Information to be given to Superintendent Thomas, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, Sep- tember 3, Stolen on the night of the 28th ultimo, from Leighton, near Welshpool: a grey mare Pony, 10 years old, about 14 hands high, large mane, rather large head, small black mark under the saddle, and in very good condition, the property of J. Naylor, Esq. Information to be given to LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of a man charged with stealing a Timepiece from the Lamb and Flag' inn, at Whaplade, on the 4th inst.: about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, and darki- liair and whiskefs ( worn round u.- d .^ the chin); dressed in a short white slop, supposed to have a black vest underneath, cord trousers ( recently washed), and black chummy hat. He was inquiring his way to Boston. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Leaper, County Police Station, Spalding, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, September 8. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from Leeming, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, charged with stealing £ 3 4s. 6d. from a dwelling- house where he had been lodging for a fortnight: a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, moustache, and imperial, very slender figure, a native of London, and a fitter ; dressed in a pepper- and- salt- coloured coat and trousers, blue vest, black stiff billycock hat, and light shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Alderson, Leyburn, or to Inspector Spence, North Riding Constabulary, Bedale.— Bow- street, September 3. Charged with stealing a silver Watch and. Appendages ( recovered), a new calico Shirt with linen front, and a pair of Wellington Boots, recently soled, and which he is supposed to be wearing, the property of William Parfitt, of Clutton: JAMES PEARSON, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers; dressed sometimes in Scotch cap, at others in a round imita- tion sealskin cap with ear- flaps tied over crown, pepper- and- salt- coloured coat with hip pockets, brown cloth vest with pale pink spots, and light grey trousers, all much worn. He stated that he was a painter, but has been working as a farm labourer; his correct name is sujiposed to be JOSEPH HARRISON, of Rookery road, Handsworth, Birmingham, and he is suspected of being a deserter from the 37th Brigade, Bristol Depot. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 3. Absconded from Brown- street, Salisbury, on the lst inst., charged on a warrant with stealing £ 1 in Gold: a blue cloth monkey Jacket, trimmed with black braid, pockets on hips, one inside breast pocket, velvet collar ; a black cloth cutaway Coat, pockets on hips, one inside breast pocket; a double- breasted dark mixture cloth Yest; and a pair of dark mixture cloth Trousers : EARNEST THOMPSON, a painter, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, small whiskers ; dressed in daik clothes, black felt hat, or in the stolen clothes. Information to be given to Head Constable Mathews, City Police Office, Salisbury, Wilts, who hold* a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 3. Stolen on the 26th April last, from Orlando- street, Walsall, the sum of J33 6s. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, sandy whiskers, light hair, Blightly bald, and scar on top of liearl; respectable dress and appearance.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, September 1. Absconded on the 13th ultimo, from 452, Oxford- street, stealing a Cheque for J15 10, the monies of his employer : a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in dark pilot jacket, dark mixture vest and trousers, and high hat, and is of respectable appearance. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, September 1. Stolen from Half Moon- street, Piccadilly : twelve Coats, nine walking ( two light grey mixture, one grey check, one black and white check, one brown velveteen, tour dark mixture), three dark mixture frock ; nine pairs of Trousers, one yellow check, eight various ; two dressing Gowns, one gentleman's grey check, blue braid, one lady's marone- coloured • woollen ; four white Shirts ; two under Tests; two pairs of woollen Stockings ; seven pairs- of Socks ; three silk Skirts, one green, one black, one lavender with dark spots ; two blue silk Dresses and three Bodices, trimmed with lace ; a blue striped Indian Scark ; a blue silk Polonaise, trimmed with blacK lace ; a yellow lace Shawl; a white lace Apron; two pairs of lady's white lace Sleeves; five lace Tuckers, each f- yard long; two pairs of Boots, one side- spring, and one Wellington ; two silver - gilt Bracelets; eight silver - gilt Mountings of dressing- case bottles, engraved ' A. S. P. C.', surmounted by a crown ; an antique bronze Cross, 3$ inches high, small figures on it. Stolen on the 24th instant, from Wimpole- street, Mary- lebone : nine pairs of silver enamelled Solitaires ; thirteen silver enamelled Lockets; seventeen silver enamelled Bracelets, all inlaid with gold, and stamped ' L. & V., patent.' By a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark com- plexion and hair; dressed in black coat, and high hat, and. of respectable appearance. — Metropolitan Police, D Division, August 30. Stolen from Newmarket, on the 20th instant : a pair of lace- up watertight Boots, in good condition, with steel heel- tips. By a tramping blacksmith, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, very stout, full face, clean shaved, and short hair ; dressed in brown cap with earlaps and mixture coat, and had on a leather apron split up the middle ; he left Newmarket on the 23rd instant, wearing the boots ; he worked at his trade in the Crimea during the Russian war, and is supposed to- be a native of Wiltshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, New- market, Cambs.— Bow- street, August 30. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). On the 6th ultimo, a male Child, aged 3 months, son of Rose Ann Meecliam, residing in Inverkip- Street, Greenock, was stolen by a woman giving the name of MARY ANN SAUNDERSON or SCOTT or BENNETT, who was traced to Port Glasgow, where she was taken into custody on a charge of being drunk and disorderly, but was discharged on the following morning. She then said she was goiDg to Glasgow, where she said she had a relative resident in Old Wynd; she is addicted to excessive drinking, and is likely to be heard of in some Police Station, Prison, Poor House, House of Refuge for Fallen Females, or other Public Institution, as it has been discovered that she has been more more than once an inmate of such places in various parts of England and Scotland, and has been on two seperate occasions an inmate of the House of Refuge for Fallen Females, at Greenock, and once in the Home for Discharged Prisoners. She is said to have a relative living in the county of Durham, and she ljiiabccn convicted of tlieft at Newcastle- on- Tyne. Scott is about 26 years of age, tall, slender, well made, long face, rather thin, fresh complexion, long straight nose, large teeth, very fair hair, cut short, tattooed on wrists, figure of a woman on one, and two bracelets on the other. The stolen child is named ALEXANDER MEECHAN, 3 months old, plump, fat, healthy, and yellow hair coming on head. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Dewar, Poliee Chambers, Greenock.— Bow- sireet, Sept. 6. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, from Aberystwith, Cardi- ganshire, charged ( on a warrant) with obtaining Money by false pretences : ELIZABETH JONES, from 23 to 24 years of age, medium height,- rather stout, broad features, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, and flat or broken nose; dressed in a rough black cloth jacket, and black straw hat trimmed with yellow ribbon; she belongs to a family of gipsies well known in North Wales ; she was accompanied by a youn'g man, dressed as a labourer, and of smart, soldierlike appear- ance. They took train for North Wales, Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Aberystwith, Cardiganshire. — Bow- street, September 6. Description of WILLIAM GRIFFIS, who is charged with obtaining £ 35, by false pretences : 35 years of age, 5 feet 9J inches high, grey eyes,| dark brown1 hair, slight build, pockmarked, slight moustache, no whiskers, tattooed on left hand, on which he generally wears a glove, and has been shot through the left leg; dressed well, generally in dark suit, light hat, and sometimes a light overcoat. lie is well acquainted with the fruit and pbtatoe trade, is a native of Totnes, has a lelative | living at HJenzance, from which place he has been sending fruit and potatoes to several parts of England. He has a woman with him, about 23 years of ago, and rather good looking. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poyntz, Borough Police Station, Nqtting- ham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow-, September 3. Charged on a warrant with obtaining £ 5, on the 29th July last, from Charles Lane, by false pretences : LOUIS GILLMAN, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, grey eyes, dark complexion, rather curly dark brown hair, very short • whiskers and moustache ; respectably dressed ; is a Russian, but speaks English very well. Information to be given to Head Constable Kershaw, Town Hall, Southport, Lancashire. — Bow- street, September 1. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of WALTER CHAPMAN, committed for 2 months hard labour to Maidstone Gaol, on the 2nd instant, for larceny, at Horsmonden : 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, grey eyes, full face, light brown hair, which stands up all over the head, and light brown whiskers ; dressed in a Sussex frock, brown cord trousers with black marks across, grey and white striped, red, blue, and white scarf, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots. He is a native of Ide Hill, near Sevenoaks, and was engaged in hop- picking. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Morgan, Kent Consta- bulary, Cranbrook.— Bow- street, Seytember 8. Description of MARY ANN SPURGEON, alias AMELIA SMITH, remanded at Gravesend for a week, charged with obtaining Goods and Money from several tradesmen by false pretences : 19 years of age, 4 feet 4 inches high, hazel eyes, brown hair, scar on side of left eye, and also on thumb; dressed in light stuff dress, black bodice, black straw hat trimmed with grey ribbon, and blue ribbon round the neck. Her friends reside in the locality of Baroness- road, Hackney, London. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Berry, Town Hall, Gravesend, Kent .- Bow- street, Sep- tember 8. Committed for trial at the next Dover Quarter Sessions, on three charges of stealing Money from public- houses : JANE MARTIN, 30 years of age, 5 feet 0J inch high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, dark hair; dressed in light print double skirt, trimmed with dark stripes, light grey shawl - with red and bDck stripes, black silk bonnet, small black feather, wreath of small flowers across forehead, and rose on crown. And AMELIA MARTIN, 28 years of age, 4feet 10 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion ; dressed in plnm- coloured stuff dress, black shawl, and black bonnet, trimmed with ribbon and lace, and wreath of rosebuds across the top. Jane Martin has a baby at the breast, about 3 or 4 months old. They state that they come from Sevenoaks, but refuse to give any address ; they have the appearance of respectable working people, and are supposed to belong to London In- formation to be given to Superintendent Sanders, Police Station, Dover, Kent.— Bow- street, September 8. NELLY RIGBY, alias RYAN, alias ELLIOTT, a tramping tailoress, travelling lately in company with a man known as Little Sailor Tom, a hawker of cloth, is committed for trial upon several charges of larceny: she is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 2| inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, and grey eye3 ; dressed in dark skirt, light- coloured body, black cloth jacket trimmed with velvet, and black straw hat with velvet round it, all shabby and dirty ; she is of Irish parentage, and a native of Liverpool. Infor- mation to be given to the Governor of the Prison, Wisbeach, Cambs, who will supply photographs upon application.— Bow- street, September 8. He is a colliery engineer, and has been four times convicted of felony; he was liberated from Stafford Gaol on the 30tb June, 1873, after 12 months imprisonment, and is under police supervision for 7 yeais; he has since been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for fraud. Description of a convict on licence, who has failed to report himself, during the month of August: CHARLES BAKER, discharged from Borstal Prison, on 19th July last, Reg. No. 90, No. on licence 44958 | 29111, convicted at Clerkenwell, 1871, for borse stealing, crime on licence is copied as housebreaking, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude : he is 34 years of age, 5 feet 7f inches high, brown hair, clean shaved face, brown eyes, has a cast in one eye, boney nose, slightly on one side, and a scar on the bridge ; he is a native of Leicestershire, talkative, and boasts of being a clever farrier ; he is likely to impose on farmers by selling cattle medicine. Description of CHARLES WILLIAMS, discharged from Wakefield Gaol on the 16th ultimo, and who is subject to 3 years police supervision : 39 years of age, 5 feet 2J inches higb, brown hair, cut on right eyebrow, and fourth right finger crooked ; he wa3 convicted of larceny at Wakefield on the 17th August, 1874, and sentenced to 12 months imprison- ment. Also description of SEPTIMUS RAWLINGS, alias THOMAS BROWN, discharged from the same gaol on the 21st ultimo, subject to 3 years police supervision : 55 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sandy hair, cut on nose, and blue dot on right cheek; he was convicted of larceny at Wakefield on the 23rd February, 1874, and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. Both these men reported their destination to be Hull, but they have not reported themselves there.
