Stolen by means of housebreaking, in Yoik, on the night of the 25th instant : a pair of gold Ear- rings, carbuncles iu centre, surrounded with garnets; a jet aud pink cameo Brooch and Ear- riugs ; and a circular silver Brooch, set with Derbyshire spar. Between 12 p. m. and 6 a. m. of the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Elizabeth Page, 12, Shornden- villa, St. Leonards, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a fancy leather Work Bag, an old small Pocket Book ; a Half- crown, George II, 1746 ; a Shilling, George II, 1758 ; a Farthing of the reign of King Charles, a small gold Coin, a gold Thimble, a Bilver Coin, and a German Coin. Also, during the same night, the dvrelling- house of C. L. Smith, 10, Shornden- villa, was broken aud entered and stolen therein : six metal Tea Spoons, a Carving Fork, three Table Knives, a pair of man's half Boots, and a black Mackintosh Coat. Description of ALFRED SWAINE, who is a charged with breaking into tho dwelling- house of his father John Swaine, at Willingham- by- Stowe, on the 30th ultimo, and stealing therein one pair of fuBtian Trousers, one black Russell cord Coat, one white Slop, and one rush Bass ; about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, round face, sun- burnt, dark brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache, and a very low forehead ; has an anchor tattooed ou his right wrist, and has served in the ltoyal Marines ; dressed in white slop, black cord trousers, brown cloth cap, turned up at sides and tied up with strings at the top, and strong lace- up boots. He has two relations employed on the railway at Lincoln, where he was last beard of, and left for Nottingham, where be had previovsly resided. A.', figure, fern leaf, dots, & c. on left arm and hand, ' H.' on left middle finger, uni: orn, mole, and scar on right aim, until light whiskers a d moustache, short neck, and carries bis head very forward ; supposed dressed in grey or dark cloth monkey jacket and trousers, which has a patch on each knee, and Scotch cap. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from Leeming, in tbe North Riding of Yorkshire, charged with stealing £ 3 4s. 6d. from a dwelling- house wheie he had been lodging for a fortnight: a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, moustache, and imperial, very Blender figure, a native of London, and a titter ; dressed in a pepper- and- salt- coloured coat and trousers, blue vest, black stiff billycock hat, and light shoes. Charged with stealing a, silver Watch and Appendages ( recovered), a new calico Shirt with linen front, and a pair of Wellington Boots, recently soled, aud which he is supposed to b- i wearing, the properly of William Parfitt, of Clutton : JAMES PEARSON, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, light complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers; dressed sometimes in Scotch cap, at others iu a round imita- tion sealskin cap with ear flaps tied over crown, pepper- and- salt- coloured coat with hip pockets, brown cloth vest with pale pink spots, and light grey trousers, all much worn, ne stated that he was a painter, but has been workiug as a fartu 1 labourer; his correct name is supposed to be JOSEPH 8 P O L I O E^ G A Z E T T E . Absconded from Brown- street, Salisbury, on the 1st inst., charged on a warrant with stealing £ 7 in Gold : a blue cloth monkey Jacket, trimmed with black braid, pockets on hips, one inside breast pocket, velvet collar ; a black cloth cutaway Coat, pockets on hips, one inside breast pocket ; a double- breasted dark mixture cloth Vest; aud a pair of dark mixture cloth Trousers : EARNEST THOMPSON, a painter, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, small whiskers ; dressed in daik clothes, black felt hat, or in the stolen clothes. Stolen on the 26th April last, from Orlando- street, Walsall, the sum of £ 33 6s. Stolen from Half Moon- street, Piccadilly : twelve Coats, nine walking ( two light grey mixture, one grey check, one black and white check, one brown velveteen, four dark mixture), three dark mixture frock ; nine pairs of Trousers, one yellow check, eight various ; two dressing Gowns, one gentleman's grey check, blue braid, one lady's marone- coloured woollen ; four white Shirts ; two under Vests; two pairs of woollen Stockings ; seven pairs of Socks ; three silk Skirts, one green, one black, one lavender with dark spots ; two blue silk Dresses and three Bodices, trimmed with lace ; a blue striped Indian Scark ; a blue silk Polonaise, trimmed with blacK lace ; a yellow lace Shawl; a white lace Apron ; two pairs of lady's white lace Sleeves; five lane Tuckers, each J- yard long; two pairs of Boots, one side- spring, and one Wellington ; two silver - gilt Bracelets; eight silver - gilt Mountings of dressing- case bottles, engraved ' A. C.', surmounted by a crown ; an antique bronze Cross, inches high, small figures on it By WILLIAM KITCHEN, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat.— — Metropolitan Police, C Division, August 30. Stolen on the 24th instant, from Wimpole- street, Mary- lebone : nine pairs of silver enamelled Solitaires ; thirteen silver enamelled Lockets ; seventeen silver enamelled Bracelets, ail inlaid with gold, and stamped ' L. & V., patent.' By a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark com- plexion and hair; dressed in black coat, and high hat, and of respectable appearance. — Metropolitan Police, D Division, August 30. Stolen from Newmarket, on the 20th instant : a pair of lace- up watertight Boots, in good condition, with steel heel- tips. By a tramping blacksmith, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, very stout, full face, clean shaved, and short hair; dressed in brown cap with earlaps and mixture coat, and had on a leather apron split up the middle ; he left Newmarket on the 23rd instant, wearing the boots ; he woiked at his trade iu the Crimea during the Russian war, and is supposed to be a native of Wiltshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, New- market, Cambs.— Bow- street, August 30. Absconded on the 22nd instant, from Brookhouse, Denbigh, charged with stealing £ 10 in Gold and a pair of light watertight Boots, with brass eyelet- holes aud hooks at the top, the property of John Williams: JOSEPH PRINGLE, a labourer, about 16 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light sandy hair, sunburnt face, is supposed to be a native of Edinburgh, and speaks with a Scotch accent; dressed in an old cloth jacket and vest, the jacket sleeves very short for him and had been recently repaired, daik cloth trousers, and Scotch cap, with long ribbons hanging behind ; he is supposed to be wearing the stolen boots, as he left au old pair behind him, aud will probably seek employment with market gardeners or at nurseries. Information to be given to Superintendent Tudge, Police Office, Denbigh, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Wigan, on the 10th instant : a blue beaver Overcoat, with black velvet collar, two pockets outside and ene outside on each breast, lined with red and black woollen plaid, white pearl buttons, and nearly new ; a double- breasted Scotch tweed shooting Coat, two pockets outside and a ticket pocket, aud one inside left breast, lined with black stuff, quite new ; and a small tweed Vest, to tit a boy about 14 years of age. By JAMES DEARDEN STONE, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, small whiskers and moustache, swarthy complexion, rather small eyes, round shouldered, turns his feet out, and of respectable appearance; supposed dressed in black clothes and black billycock hat. He said he had been a railway clerk to the Railway Company at Barrow- in- Furness, aud other places. A warraut has been issued for his apprehension. Absconded from Barnard Castle, on the 22nd instant, charged with stealing 9 stones of Lead Pumping, recovered, from Stratforth, North Riding of Yorkshire, the property of Thomas William, Esq., of Lartington Hall : JAMES HANNON, labourer, native of Barnard Castle, Durham, 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, rather sunburnt, grey eyes, brown hair, cut short, very little hair on face, and proportionate figure ; generally dressed in an old brown coat, mcleskin trousers, and velveteen cap; he has been in the South Durham Militia ; may seek for employ- ment as a labourer on public works, & c. Information to bo given to Superintendent Gregory, Richmond, or to Inspector Park, North Riding Constabulary, Greta Bridge.— Bmi'- street, Augutt 27. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISBEMEAS OURS. Description of WILLIAM GRIFFIS, who is charged with obtaining £ 35, by false pretences: 35 years of age, 5 feet 9i inches high, grey eyes,', dark brown hair, slight build, pockmarked, slight moustache, no whiskers, tattooed on left hand, on which he generally wears a glove, and has been shot through the left leg; dressed well, generally in dark suit, light bat, aud sometimes a light overcoat. He is well acquainted with the fruit and potatoe trade, is a nativa of Totnes, has a lelative living at Penzance, from which place he has been sending fruit and potatoes to several parts of England. He has a woman with him, about 23 years of age, and rather good looking. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poyntz, Borough Police Station, Notting- ham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 3. He was couvicted at Brecon, on 21st March, 1874, and sentenced to 15 mouths imprisonment and 7 years police supervision, for larceny.
