MUED1S AND MALICIOUSLY WOUIBING A warrant is issued for the apprehension of THOMAS MAGSON, who was released from custody at Kirby Moor- aide, on the 21st instant, on his own recognizance to appear before the Justices on the 25th instant and absconded, - charged with maliciously wounding Mr. Richard Bramall, • schoolmaster, Nunnington, on the night of the 16st instant: he is 42 years of age, 5 feet 11| inches high, grey eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, full sandy beard, whiskers, and moustache, thin features, and slender make ; he is a aativ- o of Nuunington, which place he left on the morning of the 25th instant, aud took train at Hovingham Morthward ; " Was dressed iu brown cloth coat and vest, fustian trousers, fittd black billycock hut; had with him a guano bag, contain- ing wearing apparel; he has worked at Middlesbrough, Stockton, and Hartlepool, at iron works, ship yards, & c. Information to be given to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary Office, Kirby Moorside, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 27. About 7 p. m. on the 17th instant, the dead Body of a ' newly- born female Cnild was found in the Trent and Mersey Canal at Shobnall, near Burton- on- Trent : the body was wrapped iu black stuff and calico tightly bound, it was much swollen and had a brick tied to it, and appeared to have been in the water ten cr twelve days. At the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Description of HENRY POWELL, alias JEFFRY, charged ( on a warrant) with wounding : 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, slight sandy whiskers, long features, and large nose ; dressed iu old sruff- coloured jacket, dark cloth vest, c- irduroy trousers, and soft billycock hat; he is a chain maker, aud a native of Brownhills ; has worked in North Staffordshire, and is now supposed to be near Wolverhampton. RICHARD BYRNE, a shipowner, late of 137, Fenchurch- street, 47, Beaufort- gardens, Brompton- road, and Cardiff. 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, light brown whiskers, shaved under chin, and light moustache. Wanted, charged on a warrant with forgery and embez- zlement: H. S. LEOPOLD, late of No. 17, Hartley- street, Bonners- lane, Old Ford, commercial traveller, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, turning grey, shaves under chin, and has a Jewish appearance ; generally wears dark chothes. Stolen from the person on Oxford Race Course, on the 19th instant: a gold English lever Watch, No. 27497. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, August 30. Stolen from the person, in York, during the 24th, 25tb, and 26th instant: A gold lever Watch, gold dial, steel hands, chased back, rose aud spade engraved thereon, the rose embossed at the edges, outer case 18 carat gold, brass dome, No. 96716. A gold Lever, plain cases, white dial, gold hands, centre seconds, maker's name ' W. H. Whalley, Blackburn,' No. 966, ' John Thompson,' engraved on inside of outer case, and ' J. T.' outside of outer case. £ 5 reward will be paid on its recovery and conviction of the offender or offenders. And a silver Lever, silver dial, gold figures, a pig engraved on inner case, No. 12451. Description of a man charged with highway robbery nea- r Bedale, Yorkshire, on the 22nd instant : 50 to 55 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, stout built, and has the appearance of a tramp or harvest- man ; dressed in cord trousers, torn at the knees, white smock or jacket, hairy cap, no stockings, and old boots. Information to be given to Inspector Spence, Bedale, Yorks. — Bow- street, August 27. Charged with stealing from the person of Miss Rachel Braidwood, in a field in Willaston, Cheshire, on the 21st instant, a brown twilled Umbrella, plain handle, the ferrule is off the bottom of the stick : JOHN CLARK, about 31 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, brown hair, small dark whiskers, and rather stout build ; dressed in a dirty white slop, dark trousers and cap; he has worked as a labourer in the steel works in Crewe, and has also worked as a collier in Staffordshire ; he is supposed to have gone to the Potteries. Information to be given to Superintendent Saxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, Auqust 27. Description of a man charged with stopping Ann Boynton on the highway near Bedale, on the 22nd instant, and demanding money : from 50 to 55 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers, stout figure ; dressed in cord trousers, torn at knees, white smock or jacket, hairy cap, old boots, and no stockings. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Alderson, Leyburn, or to Inspector Spence, Bedale, North Riding of Yorkshire. — Bow- street, August 27. BUEGLAEY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen hy means of housebreaking, in York, on the night of the 25th instant: a pair of gold Ear- riugs, carbuncles in centre, surrounded with garnets; a jet aud pink cameo Brooch and Ear- rings; and a circular silver Brooch, set with Derbyshire spar. Information to be given to Chief Constable Haley, York .— Bom street, August 30. Between 12 p. m. and 6 a. m. of the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Elizabeth Page, 12, Shornden- villa, St. Leonards, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a fancy leather Work Bag, an old small Pocket Book; a Half- crown, George II, 1746 ; a Shilling, George II, 1758 ; a Farthing of the reign of King Charles, a small gold Coin, a gold Thimble, a silver Coin, and a German Coin. Also, duriug the same night, the dwelling- house of C. L. Smith, 10, Shornden- villa, was broken aud entered and stolen therein : six metal Tea Spoons, a Carving Fork, three Table Knives, a pair of man's half Boots, and a black Mackintosh Coat. lutormatiou to be given to Superintendent Jeffery, Guestling, near Hastings, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- streeAugust 30. Description of ALFRED SWAINE, who is a charged with breaking into tbe dwelling- house of his father John Swaine, at Willingham- by- Stowe, on the 30th ultimo, and stealing therein one pair of fustian Trousers, one black Russell cord Ooat, one white Slop, and one rush Bass ; about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rouud face, sun- burnt, dark brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache, and a very low forehead ; has an anchor tattooed on his right wrist, and has served in the Royal Marines ; dressed in white slop, black cord trousers, brown cloth cap, turned up at sides and tied up with strings at the top, and strong lace- up boots. He has two relations employed on the railway at Lincoln, where he was last heard of, and left for Nottingham, where be had previovsly resided. Information to be given to Superintendent Truelove, County Police Station, Gaiusboro'. Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 27. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Uphill, near Weston- super- Mare, on the evening of the 22nd instant, the property of Mr. Charles Saunders : about .£ 15 in Gold and Silver; an English lever Watch, maker Langford, Bristol, has been repaired on the lever of the cap inside ; a gold Albert Chain ; a lady's gold Ring, blue stone ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links ; a pair of ditto, red stones set in each ; a pair of silver Spectacles ; a pair of black cloth Trousers and Vest, nearly new; a leather Purse with clasp ; a pruning and budding Knife ; a pair of worked woollen Slippers, men's size ; a Bowl of a silver Spoon, with three small fish hooks at the top ; also a Cheque Book of the West of England Bank, Weston- super- Mare Branch. Supposed by a man about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, full face, and of dirty appearance; dressed in a slop with jacket underneath, and dirty fustian trousers, or may be wearing the stolen clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Gill- banks, Somerset Constabulary, Axbridge, or to Sergeant- Hard wick, Weston- super- Mare, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, , August 25. Between 10- 30 p. m. on the 18th and 1- 15 a. m. on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Henry Heath, coal merchant, of Samuel- street, Crewe, was broken and entered and stolen therein : two silver Tea Spoons, marked ' A. I. Mappin and Webb, S. L.' The washhouse adjoining was also broken and entered and stolen therein : one white calico Shirt, linen front, pearl buttons, and small wristbands; one common linen Towel; one pair of elastic- side Boots, toe- capped ; one pair of lace- up Boots with large nails in the soles ; one pair of lace- up Boots, much worn ; two coloured silk Handkerchiefs, and five lady's linen Collars ; Two pairs of old elastic- side boots were left behind. A reward of two guineas will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Between 5 and 6 p. m. on the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Emma Whittington, of Coven, in the parish of Brewood, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of man's Boots, elastic- sides, with toe caps, partly worn ; a pair of lace- up Boots, recently mended under each toe ; a pair of light grey Trousers, with stripe down side; a pair of man's dark grey woollen Stockings ; three white calico Shirts, with linen fronts; two white linen Shirts, fronts; two Books, ' The Life of Livingstone,' by Stanley, and several other Books; an Album, with several Photographs; a white - woollen Scarf ; two women's white woollen Handkerchiefs ; a plaid woollen Shirt; four diaper chamber Towels, marked ' W. W. J.'; a Brooch, set with light stone; a Brooch, with out a pin ; and Biz Collars. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender make, light hair, and sandy whiskers ; dressed iL dark clothes, and black billycock hat; he is likely to be wearing a pair of the stole ® boots, as some old oiaes were left behind. He is accompanied by a woman, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rathei stout, her left eye is black, with a cut under- neath ; dressed in light dress, with short sleeves, dark ihawl, aud dark stubby hat. They were traced to Wolverhampton. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford, or to Sergeant Barrett, Penkridge, Staffordshire,— — Bow- street, August 23. HOSLSE AMD CATTLE STEALING. The black mare Pony stolen from Southwold Common on the 27th ultimo, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30th ultimo, has been recovered at Yarmouth, and a man is now iu custody on the charge of stealing the same.— Bm- street, September 1. Stolen during the night jof the 22nd instant, from a field on the farm ot Suldbrick, in the parish of Whithorn, occupied by William Blain, farmer : a dark bay mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, small knots on throat, knees slightly swollen, also the far hind leg, grey spots on back, below saddle, tail cut short, and in good condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Murphy, Wigtown, N. B,— Bow- speit, August 30. Stolen from a field at Moseley, near Birmingham, duriug the night of the 26th instant : a handsome dappled strong half- bred grey Mare, about 16 hands high, and 5 years old, the properly of Mr. S. J. Chew. Information to be given to Superintendent Humphries, King's Heath, near Birmingham. — Bow- street, August 30. Description of ELIZABETH BEVANS, a boatwomau, who is charged with stealing a boat Horse ( since recovered), the property of Joseph Davies, of Runcorn : she is about 40 years of age, 5 feet high, rather slender, slightly pock- pitted in the face, and has a blue mark about an inch long over the right eye ; dressed in black drees and grey shawl; she is of drunken habits, and is well known on the canal at Derby, Wolverhampton, Stafford, and Runcorn. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, County Police, Middlewich, Chester, who holds a warrant for her appre- hension.— Bm- street, August 30. Stolen from Hirwain Common, during the night of the 18th instant: a black mare Pony, 2 years old, about 13| hands high, small white streak on face which turns to one side on the nose, hind feet white up to the fetlocks, rather short tail, very large navel, in very good condition, and works well in harness, the property of Morgan John Morgan, of Werfa Farm, Rhygos, near Hirwain. Informa- tion to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Thomas, Constabulary Office, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, August 27. Description of a man charged with stealing on the 17th instant, a Donkey ( recovered) from Lechlade, Gloucester- shire : 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scars on top of head, forehead, aud chest, star and tattoo marks on left thigh, crosses, flags, anchor,' H. A.', figure, fern leaf, dots, & c. on left arm and hand, ' H.' on left middle finger, unicorn, mole, and scar on right arm, small light whiskers a d moustache, short neck, and carries his head very forward ; supposed dressed in grey or dark cloth monkey jacket and trousers, which has a patch on each knee, and Scotch cap. Stolen on the 26th April last, from Orlando- street, Walsall, the sum o£ J33 6s. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inchas high, fair complexion, sandy whiskers, light hair, slightly bald, and scar on top of head ; respectable dress and appearance.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, September 1. Absconded on the 13th ultimo, from 452, Oxford- street, stealing a Cheque for il5 10, the monies of his employer : a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in dark pilot jacket, dark mixture vest and trousers, and high hat, and is of respectable appearance. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, September 1. Absconded, charged ( on a warrant) with embezzlement: JOHN NICHOL YOUNG, a clerk and traveller, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers, and stout build ; dressed in a grey suit and round felt hat, he was last heard of at Leith on the 25th instant. Stolen from Half Moon- street, Piccadilly : twelve Coats, nine walking ( two light grey mixture, one grey check, one black and white check, one brown velveteen, tour dark mixture), three dark mixture frock ; nine pairs of Trousers, one yellow check, eight various ; two dressing Gowns, one geutleman'sgrey check, blue braid, one lady's marone- coloured woollen ; four white Shirts ; two under Vests; two pairs of woollen Stockings ; seven pairs of Socks ; three silk Skirts, one green, one black, one lavender with dark spots ; two blue silk Dresses and three Bodices, trimmed with lace ; a blue striped Indian Scark ; a blue silk Polonaise, trimmed with black lace; a yellow lace Shawl; a white lace Apron; two fairs of lady's white lace Sleeves; five lace Tuckers, each - yard long; two pairs of Boots, one side- spring, and one Wellington; two silver - gilt Bracelets; eight silver- gilt Mountings of dressing- case bottles, engraved ' A. S. P. C.', surmounted by a crown ; an antique bronze Cross, inches high, small figures on it. Stolen on the 24th instant, from Wimpole- street, Mary- F& ACTDi AMD 466MV& T£ D MISD EMJEAB © UTfcS, Charged on a warrant with obtaining £ 5, on the 29th July last, from Charles Lane, by false pretences : LOUIS GILLMAN, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 incbes high, grey eyes, dark complexion, rather curly dark brown hair, very short whiskers and moustache ; respectably dressed ; is a Kussian, but speaks English very well. Information to be given to Head Constable Kershaw, Town Hall, Southport, Lancashire. — Bow- street, September 1. Obtained on the 16th instant, from Wellington- street, Bethnal- green ; a black Horse, 13 hands high, ' J. N.' on near shoulder, hole and slit in off ear ; a Cart, painted green, picked out light green ; and a" set of silver- plated Harness. By a man, 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout make, and had the appearance of a carman.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, August 25. ^ ICtCKljJU& J!* iSSO m& Il » l> OKMAl'IU « 4 Description of a man who gives the name of THOMAS OWENS, committed for 6 calendar mouths hard labour for larceny on rivers, and 1 month hard labour for being suspected person : he states that he is a seaman, 43 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches higb, fresh complexion, dark hair, dark brown moustache and imperial, blue scars oil forehead dressed in a blue guernsey, old dirty striped trousers, torn at the knees, large neck muffler with blue border, rough brown cap, and old elastic- side boots ; he is a native of Ireland. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 1. Committed for trial at the next Staffordshire Quarter Sessions, charged with housebreaking: SAML. HARRISON ( supposed fictitious), 39 years of age, 5 feet 9-| inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, and ulightly pockpitted he states that he resided up to about eighteen months ago at St. Helen's, Lancashire, for about ten years, and during the last eighteen months has worked at Sheffield, Nottingnam, and other places. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire, from whom photo graphs may be obtained.— Bow- street, August 30. Description of a man giving the name of JOSEPH STEELE ( supposed to be fictitious), who was, on the 23rd instant, committed for trial at the next Gloucester Assizes, on a charge of burglary : 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, lebone : nine pairs of silver enamelled Solitaires ; thirteen thick set, oval features, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, silver enamelled Lockets; seventeen silver enamelled dark whiskers round face, clean shaved chin, grey eyes, has Bracelets, all inlaid with gold, and stamped ' L. & V., patent.' lost three upper front teeth, has several boil scars on body, ' scar on left eyebrow and on the end of left forefinger, and varicose veins in both legs ; dressed in hard bowler hat, dark mixture monkey jacket, dark cord trousers, new striped check shirt, black and puce woollen scarf, white cotton socks, aud light lace- up boots ; he says he is a boilermaker and rivetter, aud a native of Oxford, where he lived for many years near By a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches higb, dark com- plexion and hair; dressed in black coat, and high hat, and of respectable appearance. — Metropolitan Police, D Division, 30.
