C. * m* Whenever it is desired thut any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticlo in the POLICE GAZETTE, all abetters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise tie insertion will not be made. A warrant is issued for the apprehension of THOMAS MAGSON, who was released froui custody at Kirby Moor- side, on the 21st instaut, on his- own recognizance to appear- before the Justices ou the 25th instant aud absconded, charged with maliciously wounding Mr. Richard Bramall, schoolmaster, Nunnington, on the night of the 16stiusttnt: he is 42 years of age, 5 feet Hi inches high, grey eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion," full saudy beaxd, whiskers, and moustache, thin features, and slender make ; bo is a native of Nuunington, which place ho left on the moruiug of the 25th instant, aud took train at Hovingbam Morthward ; was dressed iu brown cloth coat and vest, fustiau trousers, and black billycock hat; had with hi in a guano bag, contain- ing wearing apparel; he has worked at Middlesbrough, Stockton, aud Hartlepool, at iron works, ship yards, & c. Information to be given to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary Office, Kirby Moorside, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 27. About 7 p. m. on the 17th instant, the dead Body of a newly- born female Cnild was found in the Trent and Mersey Canal at Shobnall, near Burton- on- Trent : the body was wrapped iu black stuff aud calico tightly bound, it was much swollen aud had a brick tied to it, and appeared to have been in the water ten or twelve days. At the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Description of HENRY POWELL, alias JEFFRY, charged ( on a warraut) with wounding : 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, slight sandy whiskers, long features, and large nose ; dressed iu old sr uff- coloured jacket, dark clotli vest, corduroy trousers, and saft billycock hat; he is a chain maker, and a native of Brownhills ; has worked iu North Staffordshire, aud is now supposed to be near Wolverhampton. RICHARD BYRNE, a shipowner, late of 137, Fenchurch-! street, 47, Beaufort- gardens, Brompton- road, and Cardiff: 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, light brown whiskeis, shaved under chin, aud light moustache. S. LEOPOLD, late of No. 17, Hartley- street, Bonners- lane, Old Ford, commercial traveller, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark conplexion, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, turning grey, shaves under cliiu, and has a Jewish appearance ; generally wears dark chothes. A man of gentlemanly appearance, dressed as a clergy- man, called upon Mr. Preston, coachbuilder of Bedford. He ordered a carriage, presenting a forged cheque for .£ 50 on Messrs. Gurney & Co, Bankers, Halesworth, and received a cheque from Mr. Preston for the balance £ 24 which he after- Wards cashed in the town. He is about 40 years of age, 5 ft. g or 9 in. high, fresh complexion, dark hair, eyes, and whiskers, and wears spectacles. Information to be given to Chief Constable Verey, Borough Police Office, Bedford.— Bow- street, August 23. of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, stout built, and has the appearance of a tramp or harvest- man ; dressed in cord trousers, torn at the knees, wbite smock or jacket, hairy cap, no stockings, and old boots. Informatiou to bo given to Inspector Spence, Bedale, Yorks. — Bow- street, August 27. Charged with stealing from the person of Miss Rachel Braidwood, in a' field in Willaston, Cheshire, on the 21st instaut, a brown twilled Umbrella, plain handle, the ferrule is off the bottom of the stick : JOHN CLARK, about 31 years of ago, about 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, brown hair, small dark whiskers, and rather stout build ; dressed in a dirty white slop, dark trousers and cap; he has worked as a labourer iu the steel works in Crowe, and has also worked as a collier in Staffordshiie; he is supposed to have gene to the Potteries. Description of a man charged with stopping Ann Boynton on the highway near Bedale, on the 22nd iustant, and demanding money : from 50 to 55 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, daik hair and whiskers, stout figure ; dressed in cord trousers, torn at knees, white smock or jacket, hairy cap, old boots, acd no stockings. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Uphill, near Weston - super- Mare, on the evening of the 22ud instant, the property of Mr. Charles Saunders ; about £ 15 iu Gold and Silver; an English lever Watch, maker Lingford, Bristol, has been repaired on the lever of the cap inside ; a gold Albert Chain ; a lady's gold Ring, blue stone ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links ; a pair of ditto, red stones set iu each ; a pair of silver Spectacles ; a pair of black cloth Trousers aud Yest, nearly new; a leather Purse with clasp; a pruning anil buddiug Kuife ; a pair of worked woollen Slippers, men's size ; a Bowl of a silver Spoon, with three small fish hooks at the top ; also a Cheque Book of the West of Eugland Bank, Weston- super- Mare Branch. Supposed by a man about 2') years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, full face, anil of dirty appearance; dressed iu a slop with jacket uiul rneatli, and dirty fustiau trousers, or may be wearing the stoleu clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Gill- banks, Somerset Constabulary, Axbridge, or to Sergeant Hardwick, Weston- super- Mare, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, August 25. Between 10- 30 p. m. on the 18th and 115 a. m. on tho 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Henry Heath, coal merchant, of Samuel- street, Crewe, was broken and entered and stolen therein: two silver Tea, Spoons marked ' A. I. Mappin and Webb, S. L.' The washhouse adjoining was also broken aud entered and stoleu therein : one white calico Shirt, liutu front, pearl buttons, and small wristbands; one common linen Towel; oue prir of dastic- side Boots, toe- capped ; oue pair of lixe- up Boots with large nails in tbe soles ; one pair of lace- up Boots, much worn ; two coloured silk Handkerchiefs, and five lady's linen Collars ; Two pairs of old elastic- side boots were left behind. A reward of two guineas will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders aud recovery of tho property. Between 5 and C p. m. on the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Emma Whittington, of Coven, iu the parish of Brewood, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of man's Boots, elastic- 6ides, v « ith toe caps, partly worn ; a pair of lace- up Boots, recently mended under each toe ; ap. ir of light grey Trousers, with stripe down side; a pair of nun's dark grey woollen Stockiugs ; three white calico Shu ts, with linen frouts ; two white linen Shirts, fronts; two B ink* ' The Life of Livingstone,' by Stanley, and several other Books; au Album, with several Photographs; a white woollen Scarf ; two women's white woollen Handkerchiefs ; a plaid woollen Shirt; four diaper chamber Towels, marked' ' W. W. J.'; a Brooch, sot with light stone; a Brooch, with- out a piu ; and siz Collars. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of ajo, 5 feet 5 or C inches high, slender make, light hair, arid saudy whiskers ; dressed it dark clothes, and black billycock hat ; ho is likely to be weariug a pair of the stolen boots, as some old o>, es were left behind. He is accompanied by a woman, fiom 25 to 3) years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, ratfcei stout, her left eye is black, with a cut under- neath ; dressed iu light dress, with short sleeves, dark shawl and dark shabby hat. They were traced to Wolverhampton. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable ( Well Stafford, or to Sergeant Barrett, Penkridge, Staffordshire.-. — Bow- street, August 23. Stolen about 9 a. m. on the 17th instant, by means o£ housebreaking, at Lower Withington : a pair of Balmoral Bouts, brass eyelets, nearly new; a fine white Shirt, new ; and a leather Purse, with clasp, uew, containing a Florin! Supposed by two tramps, short and stout, and dressed ia dark clothes, and caps ; one of them is rather bow- legged, and ha3 red hair ; they were traced in the direction of Cou^ letoi). Information to be given to Superintendent Dale, County Police Station, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 23. Absconded from Handsworth, charged ( on a warrant) with burglary; THOMAS GILBERT, alias BOULTON alia3 W. PORTER, about 31 or 32 years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. • high, rather slejKUr make, sallow complexion, rather thin on top of the head, brown hair ( no whiskers), small light moustache, cut short, full eyes, and brown skin. He has been a soldier, and walks very erect; dressed in a black cloth, ribbed jacket, black cloth trbnsers and vest, black billycock* hat, white shirt, old boots, and sometimes carries a short walkirig- stick ; and WILLIAM BAYLIS, about 23 or 24 years of Jago, 5 feet 8 or t) iilches high, light brown hair, fair complexion ( uo whisker-); very small light moustache, rather thick lips, locks down, aud stoop3 slightly, rather stoutly built, and 1 as lar'v f. rt; dressfed iu a black cloth co^ t, pepper and salt coloured iron. :. torn behind one leg ( shewing ifce lining), diik waistcoat, white Bhirt, blue uecktio, and blnck billycock hat. Between 1 aud C p. m. on the 18th instant, the cottage of John Colley, of Sealand, labourer, was broken aud entered and stolen therein : a black cloth tweed Coat, bound with black braid, two pocket.-, outside, one infcide left breast, black bone buttons ; a pair of black arcl white Trousers, with Vest to match with light blue buttons ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, with black velvet collar, two pockets outside, one inside left braast, with black boce buttons, the property of John Colley. Supposed by two men who were seen near the house at 1 p. m. tbe sum3 day : one is from 22 to 21 year3 of age, 5 feet G or 7 incbcs high, dark hair and whiskers all round fac; dressed in a blue clcth jacket, with black velvet collar and black buttons on sic. ves, dark grey troueer3, black soft billycock hat, and light brots; the other i- i from 18 to 20 years of age, ; 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light bair, no whiskers, pale face, , dressed iu black pilot cloth jacket, light trousers and vest, ihecsecutter cap, and light boots. Tliey are supposed to have i gone to Birkenhean or Liverpool. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, Mold, or to Sergeant Lockwood, Hawarden Flintshire.— Bow- street, August 23. On the 12th instant, a dwelling- house in Bedford, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dessert Spoon, twelve tea Spoons, and a pair of sugar Tongs, all Old English pattern ; two table Spoons, marked ' J. P.'; two salt Spoons, marked ' S. M. II.'; a butter Knife, ivory handle ; a ditto, pearl handle; a fish Knife ; and a pickle Fork, all silver. Stoku from Hirwain Common, during the night of the ISth instant: a black mare Touy, 2 years old, about 1SJ hands high, email white streak on face which turns to one side ou tho nose, hiud feet white up to the fetlocks, rather short tad, very largo navel, in very good condition, and works well iu harness, the property of Morgan John Morgan, of Werfa Farm, Rhygos, near Hirwain. Informa- tion to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Thomas, Constabulary Ofilce, Mcrthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire.— Boio- stieet, August 27. Description of a man charged with stealing on the 17th instant, a. Donkey ( recovered) from Lechlade, Gloucester- shire : 22 years of ago, 5 feet 2 iucbes high, fresh complexion, browu hair, grey eyes, scars on top of head, forehead, and chest, star aud tattoo marks on left thigh, crosses, flags, anchor, ' H. A.', figure, fern leaf, dots, & c. on left arm and hand, ' II.' on left middle finger, unborn, mole, and scar on right a'm, small light whiskers a d moustache, short neck, and carries his head very forward ; supposed dressed in grey or dark cloth monkey j. tcket and trousers, which has a patch on each knee, and Scotch cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood, Constabulary Office, Cirencester, or to Police Constable Bell, Lechlade, Gloucestershire Bovi- street, Avgust 27. Found in the possession of a returned convict, on the 22nd iustant, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark brown half- bred Mare, about 15 hands high, aged, and IU good condition. Information to bo given to Head Con- stable Liddell, Newark- on Trent, Nolta.—£< nc- street, Aug. 25, Stolen from a paddock at Acock's- green, near Birming 2 August 27 kam during the night of the 16th instant: a daik brown nag Mare, about 14 hands 3 inches high, aged, black clear legs, • white slar on forehead, slightly duck- rumped, small collar sore on near shoulder, and heel scars inside hind legs. £ 10 re. vard will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension ana conviction of offender or offenders and recovery of the mare. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Dow- street, August 23. Stolen from a field at Bell End, Rowley, during the night of the 16th iust., the property of Mr. J. Taylor of Rowley : one black Horso, R years old, is hands 1 inch high, long black tail, short mane, hair rubbed off back under saddle, and off top'of rump, a white spot at root of one ear, supposed right, and in very good condition. Information to be given to Sorgeant Walters, Police Office, Blackheath' near Dudley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 23. Supposed to have 1 een stolen, from Woolvercott, near Oxford, between the 18th and 19th instant : a black horse Pony, about 13 hands high, 5 years old, in good condition, star in forehead, the fore feet and one hind foot white, the property of Mr. James Harwood. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, August 23. Description of JOE TAYLOR and JEM LEE, charged with stealing, on the 10th instant, from Orton Longside, two Horses ( since recovered near Woodford, Essex) : one man is about 21 years of age, 5 feet high, light whiskers, light brown hair, grey eyes, stoutly bui't, sunburnt, tattooed on oue arm, ' A. B.,' and walks with a short quick step ; dressed in a sleeved waistcoat, tight- fitting cottou cord trousers with two or three rows of machine stitching round the bottoms, yellow and blue silk neckerchief, and dark cloth cap. The other man is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, large nose, slightly built, dark complexion, black hair, no whiskers, tattooed on one arm ' T. H.,' and walks erect ; dressed in a long blue pilot jacket, red neckerchief, and black billycock hat. They were in company with two women, dressed iu shepherd's plaid oliawls, who left them to go home iu June, one of whom is supposed to be Taylor's sister. These men also stole two Saddles and Bridles, not yet recovered. A reward of £ 4 for each offender will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to their appre hension. They can he identified by the Woodford Police. Absconded on the 22nd instant, from Brookhouse, Denbigh, charged with stealiug £ 10 in Gold and a pair of light watertight Boots, with brass eyelet- boles and hooks at the top, the property of John Williams: JOSEPH PRINGLE, a labourer, about 16 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches nigh, light sandy hair, sunburnt face, is supposed to be a native of Edinburgh, and speaks with a Scotch accent; dressed in an old cloth jacket aud vent, the jacket sleevts very short for him and had been recently repaired, dark cloth trousers and Scotch cap, with long ribbons hanging behind ; he is supposed to be wearing the stolen boots, as be left an old pair behind him, and will probably seek employment with mai ket gardeners or at nurseries. Information to be given to Superintendent Tudge, Police Office, Denbigh, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- sircet, A ugust 27. Stolen from a dwelling- bouse in Wigan, on the 10th instant : a blue beaver Overcoat, with black velvet collar, two pockets outside and one outside on each breast, lined with red aud black woollen plaid, white pearl buttons, aud nearly new ; a double- breasted Scotch tweed shooting Coat, Description of a man charged with stealiug a qnautity of carpenter's Tools ( recovered) from Holcombs, during the night of the 8th instant: about 55 years of age, 5 feet fi iuclies high, light whiskers, speaks with au Irish accent, leans his head foiward when walking, says he is a carpenter, and a native of the Isle of Mau ; dressed in browu coat with pockets at sides, militia trousers with stripe taken out, cossack b< ots, nearly new, and a bowler hat or cap ; he is believed to be the same man who committed a similar offence at Lower Stone, Berkeley, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th instant. Description of three tramping labourers, committed to Woriester Gaol, from Uptou, for 21 days each, for larceny, on the 2iih instant, : THOMAS JONES, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, black hair, small whiskers, aud sallow complexion ; dressed in a short dirty slop jacket, fustian trousers, aud grey cap; | he stated that he belonged to Grantham JOHN BROWN, 31 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches hig&, sandy hair, and tuft of sandy hair ou chin ; dressed in a dirty Stolen on the 21st instant, from a lodging- house : a dark [ short slop jacket, fustian trousers and vest, old navvy boots, tweed Jacket, outside pockets and inside breast pocket; a j and black jimcrow hat; he says he belongs to Royston. Brown, for tis. ; at the same shop, 12th May, 1S75, a pair of moleskin Trousers, in the name of John Bro » vn, for 4s. ; at George Wood, & c., 28th June. 1875, a Vest, for 2s , in the name of J. Subbisan ; at F. Kelly's, Chesterfield, two young women, and are supposed to be making for Bristol or Exeter. Information to be given to Superintendent Tyler, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen on the 20th instant, from furnished lodgings at Northfleet, Kent: a gold Watch, maker Bruce, Cranbourne- street, London ; a gold Neck- chain and Key attached ; £ 5 in Gold ; a red silk knitted Purse, with steel beads, aud two steel Rings; a topaze Brooch, set iu gold frame, has been meudeu ; a cameo Brooch, set in gold with turquoise round ; a mourning Ring, with ' William Batten' engraved upon it ; aud a German silver albert Chain.
