WEBSE A WD tf ALICZOUSI. 7 WOUWBIWG- Description of HENRY POWELL, alias- JEFFRY, charged ( on a warrant) with wounding : 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, slight sandy whiskers, long features, and large nose ; dressed in old sniff- coloured jacket, dark cloth vest, corduroy trousers, and sjft billycock Jiat; he is a chain maker, and a native of Brownhills ; has worked in North Staffordshire, and is now supposed to be near Wolverhampton. Information to be giveu to Superin- tendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bm- street, August 23. Charged with wounding . John Welch, at Coxhoe, on'the 8th inst.. with two others ( uow in custody) : HENDERSON BARNES, a coal miner, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, freckles on face, grey eyes, brown hair, cut short, no whiskers or moustache, and proportionate build ; generally dressed in blue pilot jacket, check trousers, and dark cloth cap, with tassel on crown. Wanted, charged on a warrant with forgery and embez- zlement: H. S. LEOPOLD, late of No. 17, Hartley- street, Bonners- lane, Old Ford, commercial traveller, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches higb, dark complexion, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, turning grey, shaves under chin, . and has a Jewish appearance; generally wears dark chothes. Between 10- 30 p. m. on the 18th and 1T5 a. m. or: the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Henry Heath, coal merchant, of Samuel- street, Crewe, was broken and entered and stolen therein i two silver Tea Spoons, marked ' A. I. Mappin and Webb, S. L,' The washhouse adjoining was also broken and entered and stolen therein : one white calico Shirt, linen front, pearl buttons, and small wristbands; one common linen Towel; one pair of elastic- side Boots, toe- capped ; one pair of lace- up Boots with large nails in the soles ; one pair of lace- up Boots, much worn ; two coloured silk Handkerchiefs, and five lady's linen Collars ; Two pairs of old elastic- side boots were left behind. A reward of two guineas will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Between 5 and 6 p. m. on the 18tli instant, the dwelling- house of Emma Whittington, of Coven, in the parish of Brewood, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : a pair of man's Boots, elastic- sides, with toe caps, partly worn ; a pair of lace- up Boots, recently mendtd under each toe ; a pair of light grey Trousers, with stripe down side; a pair of man's dark grey woollen Stockings ; three white calico Shirts, with linen fronts ; two white linen Shirts, fronts; two Books, ' The Life of Livingstone,' by Stanley, and several other Books; aa Album, with several Photographs; a white woollen Scarf ; two women's white woollen Handkerchiefs ; a plaid woollen Shirt; four diaper chamber Towels, marked ' W. W. J.'; a Brooch, set with light stone; a Brooch, with- out a pin ; . and siz Collars. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or G inches high, slender lhake, light hair, and sandy whiskers ; dressed ii, dark clothes, aud black billycock hat ; he is likely to be wearing a pair of the stolen boots, as some old oses were left behind. He is accompanied by a woman, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rathei stout, her left eye is black, with a cut under- neath ; dressed iu light dress, with short sleeves, dark shawl, and dark shabby hat. They were traced to Wolverhampton. Information to be " given to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford, or to Sergeant Barrett, Penkridge, Staffordshire.—• — Bow- street* August 23. Stolen about 9 a. m. on the 17th instant, by means of housebreaking, at Lower Withington : a pair of Balmoral Boots, brass eyelets, nearly new; a fine white Shirt, new and a leather Purse, with clasp, new, containing a Florin, Supposed by two tramps, short and stout, and dressed in dark clothes, and caps ; one of them is rather bow- legged, marked 1 S. M. H.' ; a butter Knife, ivory handle ; a ditto, pearl handle ; a fish Knife ; and a pickle Fork, all silver. Information to be given to Chief Constable Verey, Borough Police Office, Bedford.— Bow- street, August 20. Between 11 p. m. on the 13th and 6 a. m. on the 14th inst,, the dwelling- house of John Coward, Esq., of Western- hill, Durham, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a silver Trowel, inscribed ' Presented to Councillor Coward by the Wesleyans of Dragon Villa, on the occasion of his laying the foundation stone of a chapel at that place'; a ditto ditto, inscribed ' Presented to Councillor Coward by the Primitive Methodists of Jubilee Chapel, Durham, on the occasion of his laying the fouudation stone of a School in connection with, that place, & c.'; also, four silver Pillars and a silver Knob belonging to a biscuit jar. The handles of the trowels were afterwards found in a garden near to Mr. Coward's residence. Jonsohn, Esq., Aykley Heads, near Durham, was broken into, and stolen therein : a single- breasted cutaway Coat and Vest ( ruourning black) ; a new single- breasted dark mixture Coat; a pair of Trousers, half worn; anew black Vest, turn- down collar, striped liuing; a pair of elastic side Boots, worn down at heels ; a black silk Hat, a little worn ; a small gold Geneva Watch, a long old- fashioned gold guard with seals and locket containing photo of lady attached ; a gold Toothpick ; and a loaf of Brea, d : supposed by twofhen, tramps : one 21 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, fair complexion, brown hair ( uo whiskers or moustache), and rather stout figure, dressed in old dark clothes and cap ; the other 18 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, fair complexion, light hail1, slender figure, dressed in old dark clothes and cap; Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary Oflice, Durham.— Bow- street, August 18. HORSE £ 11 OATIX3E STEAI^ St: Stolen from a paddock at Acock's- green, near Birming- ham, duiing the night of the 16th instant : a dark browu nag Mare, about 14 hands 3 inches high, aged, blaek clear legs, white star on forehead, slightly duck- rumped, small collar sore on near shoulder, and heel scars inside hind legs. £ 10 re. vard will be paid to any person giving such informatkn as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of offender or offenders and recovery of the mare. Stolen from a field at Bell End, Rowley, during the night of the 16th inst., the property of Mr. J. Taylor of Rowley : one black Horse, 8 years old, 15 hands 1 inch high, long black and has red hair ; they were traced in the direction of tail, short mane, hair rubbed off back under saddle, and off Congleton. Information to be given to Superintendent Dale, County Police Station, Macclesfield, Cheshire.-— Bow- street, August 23. Absconded from Haudsworth, charged ( on a warrant) with burglary : THOMAS GILBERT, alias BOULTON, alias W. PORTER, about 31 or 32 years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, rather slender make, sallow complexion, rather thin on top of the head, brown hair ( no whiskers), small light moustache, cut short, full eyes, and brown skin. He has been A man of gentlemanly appearance, dressed as a clergy- 1 a soldier, and walks very erect; dressed in a black cloth man, called upon Mr. Preston, coachbuilder of Bedford. He ribbed jacket, black cloth trousers and vest, black billycock ordered a carriage, presenting a forged cheque for ,£ 50 on hat, white shirt, old boots, and sometimes carries a short Messrs. Gurney & Co, Bankers, Halesworth, and received a walking- stick ; and WILLIAM BAYLIS, about 23 or 24 cheque from Mr. Preston for the balance £ 24 which he after- years of [ age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light brown hair, fair • wards cashed in the town. He is about 40 years of age, 5 ft. complexion ( no whiskers); very small light moustache, rather i f h 8 or 9 in. bigh, fresb complexion, dark hair, eyes, and whiskers, and wears spectacles. Stolen from the person on the llth iustant: a gold oval- shaped Locket, has a twisted ring round the outer edges, chased, and opens into two compartments. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 16. Stolen from the person whilst travelling from London to Preston, on the llth instant : a brown leather Pocket- book, with elastic band, containing ,£ 125 or £ 145 in Bank of England Notes, consisting of two £ 20 notes, and the remainder iu £ 10 and £ 5 Notes; also four or six blank Cheques, on the Irongate Branch of the City of Glasgow Bank. Information to be given to Head Constable Ogle- thorpe, Borough Police, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 13. Stolen from the person at Lewes Races, on the 6tli and 7th instant: A single- case silver engine- turned Geneva Watch, with the Initials ' J. W.' on outside case. A brown leather Russia leather Cigar Case, containing two £ 10 Bank Cheques. A Sid leather Pocket- book, containing a £ 10 Bank of England Note, No. 48865. Information to be given at the Chief Office, or to Superinten- dent Mansbiidge, Lewes, . or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, August 13. thick lips, looks down, and stoops slightly, rather stoutly built, and has large feet; dressed in a black cloth coat, pepper and salt coloured trousers, torn behind one leg ( showiug the lining), dark waistcoat, white shirt, blue necktie, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., Aug. 23. ALFRED NASH, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant, charged with burglary, has been committed for trial.— Bow- street, August 23. Between 1 and 6 p. m. on the 18th instant, the cottage of John Colley, of Sealand, labourer, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: a black cloth tweed Coat, bound with black braid, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, black bone buttons ; a pair of black and white Trousars, with Vest to match with light blue buttons ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, with black velvet collar, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, with black bone buttons, the property of John Colley. Supposed by two men who were seen near the house at 1 p. m. the same day : one is from 22 to 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair and whiskers all round fac; dressed in a blue cloth jacket, with black velvet collar and black buttons on sleeves, dark grey trousers, black soft billvcock hat, and light boots ; the other is from 18 to 20 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light hair, no whiskers, pale face, dressed in black pilot cloth jacket, light trousers and vest, cheesecutter cap, aud light boots. They are supposed to have gono to Birkenheau or Liverpool. Information to be giveu to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, Mold, or to Sergeant Lock wood, Haward'en, Flintshire.— Bow- street, August 2- 3. On the 12th. instant, a dwelling- house in Bedford, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a deRsert SpooD, twelve tea Spoons, and a pair of sugar Tongs, all Old English pattern; two table Spoons, marked ' J, P.'; two salt Spoons, top of rump, a white spot at root of one ear, supposed right, and in'very good condition. Information to be given to Sergeant Walters, Police Office, Blackheath near Dudley, Staffordshire.— Bow- slreet, August 23. Supposed to have been stolen, from Woolvercott, near Oxford, between the 18th and 19th instant: a black horse Pony, about 13 hands high, 5 years old, in good condition, star in forehead, the fore feet and one hind foot white, the property of Mr. James Harwood. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen from a field in the parish of Oldbury, near Bridg- north, on the 15th instant: a bay Mare, with black points, has been fired on both fore legs ( ou fetlock joints and back sinews), one capped hock off*, side, a few white hairs on back from saddle, about 9 years old, about 15 hands 1 inch high, well bred, aud goes in harness ; and a dark brown half- bred Mare, about 15 hands 1 or 2 inches high, and strongly built. A reward of £ 5 will be paid on the recovery of the above horses, if stolen, and on the conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgwortli, Salop.— Bow- street, August 23. Description of JOE TAYLOR and JEM LEE, charged with stealing, on the 10th instant, from Orton Longside, two Horses ( since recovered near Woodford, Essex) : one man is about 21 years of age, 5 feet high, light whiskers, light brown hair, grey eyes, stoutly built, sunburnt, tattooed on one arm, ' A. B.,' and walks with a short quick step ; dressed iu a sleeved waistcoat, tight- fitting cotton cord trousers with two or three rows of machine stitching round the bottoms, yellow and blue silk neckerchief, and dark cloth cap. The other man is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, large nose, slightly built, dark complexion, black hair, no whiskers, tattooed on one arm ' T, II.,' and walks erect ; dressed in a loug blue pilot jacket, red neckerchief, and black billycock bat. They were in company with two women, dressed in shepherd's plaid shawls, who left them to go home in June, one of whom is supposed to bs Taylor's sister. These men also stole two Saddles and Bridles, not yet recovered. A reward of £ 4 for each offender will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to their appre- hension. They can ho identified by tbe Woodford Police. Information to be given to Superintendent Barker, Norman- eroaa, Peterborough, Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bom- street, August 23. Stolen between tbe evening of the 14th and morniug of the 16th inst,, from an orchard in the" parish of Rewe, Devon : the property of Mr. J. Richards, a dark bay Cob Horse, about A B POLICE GAZETTE. Eound at Headington, near Oxford, supposed to have been stolen : a bay nag Horse, about 6 years old, about Information to be given to Superintendent Davies, Canter- bury, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 18. A warrant has been issued at Tunbridge Wells, for the apprehension of JOHN BOAKES, who absconded about 8 p. m. on the 12th instant, charged with embezzling several sums of money, and stealing a white mackintosh Coat, the 14 hands high, star on forehead, white forefeet, tbe off hindj. sums of money, and stealing a wbite foot white, tail cut square, a small scar on off hip, three small property of David Boonnan : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet • • T - •• . • — <--- 4 inchesJiigh, full face, pale complexion, grey eyes, and light hair : dressed in blaek cl< h coat, dark check trousers and • white marks on the back. Stolen on the night of the 15th instant, from the parish of Riston, in the East Biding of York : a dark cheauut Mare, 7 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, strong make, of the nag breed, long switch tail, has not been docked, very good action, has been use to ride and drive, shod on all feet, and goes with the toes turned rather inwards, the property of Thomas Cappleman, farmer. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, East Ridingj Constabulary, Police Station, Leven, near Beverley.— Bow- street, Auqust 18. Absconded from Aldershot, on the 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a Horse, Cab, and set of Harness ( since recovered), the property of his master Edward Ayres, of Earnborough : ARTHUR BUTLER, a cab driver, about 19 years of age, about 5 feet high, dark brown bair, no whiskers, thin features, in- kneed, and slightly made ; dressed in a suit of black cloth clothes. He is supposed to be in London. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot, by whom £ 2 reward will be paid on his apprehension and conviction. — Bm- street, August 18. Stolen during the night of the llth instant, from Trinity Place, Borough : a dark brown cob Mare, 14 hands 3 inches vest, low shoes, blatfirhard Oxford hat, and check Oxford scarf ; he is a journeyman baker, and had with him a white bag, containing his wording clothes ; is a native of Maidstone, where his friends resicle. Description of two boys who left the " Home for Little Boys" near Farningham, Kent, on tbe 3rd inst., and have not since been heard of, it is feared some ill has befallen them. WILLIAM BIRD, 13 years of age, 4 feet 9 inches high, very- dark hair, bold and black eyes, dressed in grey top coat„ sleeves lined with brown silk, dark tweed vest, cord trousers,, blue striped shirt, white cotton socks, Blucher boots, Scotch: wool cap, clothing numbered 273; and CHARLES BARKER, 13 yeai' 3 of age, 4 feet 5 inches high, dark hair and eyes, grey tweed jacket, dark tweed vest, tweed trousers, blue striped shirt, white cotton socks, Blucher boots, Oxford peak cap, no buttons, clothing numbered 253. They were last seen at. Meopham near Gravesend. Information to be given to- Bow- | Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Diirtford.— Bow- st. t ' August 23, Stolen from a dwelling- house in Middlesbrough, on ths 16th instant : a black leather Purse, containing £ 1 10s. in Gwld and Silver : by a girl, about 14 years of age, thin face, slender figure, and black hair, supposed to be a native of Absconded from the Manchester and Salford Reformatory, on the 18th instant: JOHN BOARDMAN, a, native of Manchester, 16 years of age, 4 feet 9 or 10 inches high, sallow complexion, brown Wales ; dressed in a light wincey dress, bound round with hair, grey eyes, proportionate figure, a labourer. black braid, black straw hat trimmed with brown ribbons ; she lodged at the above house one night and absconded the next morning. Also stolen frcm a locked- up shop in the same place, between the 14th and 16th instant, three Boxes of Mixed Cigars. Information to be given to Head Constable Saggerson, Mid- dlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 18. Absconded from Farnborough, Hants, on the 30th nit., charged on a warrant with stealing a quantity of Straw, the property of his master, Mr. William Allden, of Aldershot : THOMAS PERRY, a labourer, late of Cove, near Farn- . borough, 27 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark brown high with brown muzzle ; and a riding Bridle with blue front, hairj hazel eyeSj and fresh compiexion. Will probably be and a Saddle. By a man, 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches higb, dark complexion and moustache, and thin ; dressed in blue short jacket, tweed trousers, black deer- stalker hat, of respectable appearance, a Frenchman, and can speak but little English.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, August 17. And WILLIAM TURNER, alias DUGGAN, a native of Bolton, 17 years of age, 5 feet 2J inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, stiff build, dark and freckled complexion, a labourer. Both dressed in black cord jacket and vest, bound with red, light cord trousers with red stripe down leg seam, check shirt with name on left breast, cloth cap, and clogs. A reward of £ 1 is offered for the apprehension of each boy. Information to be given to the Governor, Manchester and Salford Reformatory, Blackley.— Bow- street, August 23. Remanded at Loftbouse till the 26th instant, charged with felony : WILLIAM RAW, alias JAMES JOHNSON, a labourer, 43 years of age, 5 feet iuches high, dark com- plexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair and strong rough beard, proportionate figure, ' H. Marvin, 1854,' and anchor tattooed found harvesting or working on a railway. £ 10 reward : on left arm, and a rifle on right arm, and has several ulcerated ftAKOEWY AID EMEEZZIEMMT. Absconded on the 18th instant, from Kennington Park Road, stealing ten gold Keeper Rings, second- hand, nine, twelve, and eighteen carat; one ditto, single diamond ; one gold scarf Pin, flat bottom bar across ; one flue gold enamelled Ear- ring, set with five opals, and three small diamonds ; four will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aider- shot.— Bow- slreet, August 18. Absconded on the 7th instant, from Chelsea Market, wounds on his legs ; dressed in a dark brown shooting coat, fustian vest, cotton cord trousers, cloth cap, and old elastic- side boots ; he says he is a native of Peter's Parish, Derby, has been in the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Foot, and was di's- stealing £ 20 in Gold; a silver lever Watch, a gold Albert SStft^ W formation to be given t ® , Chaining links, with red Seal and gold Key Cached; six , ^ t^ A^. ^ ^^ stabulary, Guisbro, silver lea Spoons; a pair of Sugar longs; and four silk - r • Handkerchiefs. No. 2496, a convict license- holder, who has failed to report himself : 34 years of age, 5 feet 2f inches high, dark brown hair, dark complexion, light blue eyes, scar at corner of left eye, large scar on both sides of neck, mole under left breast, and scar on centre of back ; was convicted at Horsham Sessions on the lst July, 1869, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude, for shopbreaking, and was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison 24th Dec., 1875. Has been living in Leeds, but has failed to report himself since the 3rd June last. Description of convict license- holder Reg. No. 2494, WM. MORLEY, who has failed to report himself since 7th June last: 38 years of oge, 5 feet inches high, dark brown hair and eyes, dark complexion, letter ' D ' on left side, sharp nose, scar on left eyebrow, two small scars on forehead, and mole on ce- itre of back ; was convicted at Manchester on the 4th of Dec., 1869, and sentenced to seven years penal servitude for burglary, and was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Pri- son on the 4th June last. J3039 PATRICK JONES, subject to police supervision for four years, who has failed to report himself since 7th July last: 31 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, sandy hair, dark complexion, blind of left eye, lost part of lst, 2nd, and 3rd fingers of right hand : was convicted at Leeds, and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment ou 5th Jan., 1874, and 4 years police supervision; was dischaiged from Wakefield Gaol on the 3rd ultimo. Description of THOMAS LOWE, alias JOHN HART, No. 2057 L, uuder police supervision for 7 years, who has failed to report himself at the Police Station, Wigan, as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : 29 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair, brown eyes, swarthy complexion, star, anchor, and ship on chest, anchor, star, flags, and laurel on right arm, two anchors, a man, two guns, and portion of two men on left arm, & e. ; he is a trench polisher and cbairmaker, but may be working as a labourer. He was convicted of felony at Wigan Sessions, Jan. 28th, 1874, and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and 7 years police supervision, and was discharged from tbe House of Correction at Kirkdale on the 27th ultimo. H., under police supervision for 2 years, who has failed to report himself at the Police Station, Wigan, as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light brown hair, fresh complexion, scar over right eyebrow and under left eye, two scars in front of right shoulder, birthmark on right side of belly, and four scars on back of left hand ; he is a collier, but may be found jobbing and getting coal in. He was con- victed on the 30th of April, 1873, and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and 2 years police supervision.
