INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Charged with wounding John Welch, at Coxhoe, on'the 8th inst.. with two others ( now in custody) : HENDERSON BARNES, a coal miner, 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, freckles on face, grey eyes, brown hair, cut short, no whiskers or moustache, and proportionate build ; generally dressed in blue pilot jacket, check trousers, and dark cloth cap, with tassel on crown. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— 4Bow- street, August 18. Stolen from the person of Samuel Garton, on the 5th instant, in the ' White Horse Inn,' at Great Driffield : a wash leather Bag, containing £ 7 15s. in Gold and Silver, By three met), one who is in custody In custody : THOS. FOSTER, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale com- plexion, grey eyes, brown hair, and slender figure; dressed in dark coat, grey trousers, light boots, and felt hat. At large : one 22 years of age, slender figure ; dressed in white smock, under dark coat, and felt hat ; and the other 23 years of age, slender figure, and dark clothes. Stolen from the person of Mr. Wyatt Harlow, of Burslem, on the railway platform at Stoke, about 8- 30 p. m. on the 5th instant : a gold lever Watch, No. 40788, engine- turned, ' E. R. to J. R.' engraved inside, maker ' H. Pidduek, Hanley.' Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Stoke- on- Trent.— Bow- street, August 9. Stolen from the person, on the 2nd instant: a lady's small skeleton lever Watch, gold dial, No. 22790, had attached a gold Albert Chain, link and bar pattern. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Preston, Lancashire. — Bow- street, August 9. rORGERY. Description of a man of gentlemanly appearance, dressed as a clergyman, who called at. the shop of Mr. Roberts, music- seller, High- street, Windsor, on the 29th ultimo, and obtained ,£ 23 by means of a forged Cheque for .£ 50, on Gurney & Co., Halesworth Bank. He stated that he was a friend of, and staying at Mr. Pearl's, High- street, and represented himself to be the Rev. H. F. Gill, Vicar of Warfield. He purchased a pianoforte and a concertina, and received £ 23 as change. He is about 38 or 40 years of age, dark complexion, round face, very short nose, and about 5 feet 9 inches high. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Cooper, Police Station, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, August 11. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 11 p. m. on the 13th and 6 a. m. on the 14th inst. i the dwelling- house of John Coward, Esq., of Western- hilh Durham, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a silver Trowel, inscribed ' Presented to Councillor Coward by the Wesleyans of Dragon Villa, on the occasion of his laying the foundation stone of a chapel at that place'; a ditto ditto, inscribed ' Presented to Councillor Coward by the Primitive Methodists of Jubilee Chapel, Durham, on the occasion of his laying the foundation stone of a School in connection with that place, & c.'; also four silver Pillars and a silver Knob belonging to a biscuit jar. The handles of the trowels were afterwards found in a garden near to Mr. Coward's residence. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow- street, August 18. During the night of the 15th inst. the dwelling- house of F. D. Jonsohn, Esq., Aykley Heada, near Durham, was broken into, and stolen therein : a single- breasted cutaway Coat and Vest ( mourning black) ; a new single- breasted dark ham, timber merchant, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a £ 20 Note, a £ 10 Note, three £ 5 Notes, and two Sovereigns ; a gentleman's diamond Ring, diamond fixed in claws ; a bright gold Brooch, set with three aqua- marine stones ; a lady's Hoop, set with pearls, one pearl very dark ; a strong silver Brooch, set with malachite; a gentleman's hair Albert, with small Locket attached, with the likeness of a Female in it, and on the back the words ' In Memoriam'; and a white seal Ring, with the letters ' E. M. C. Y.' in red. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, West Riding Constabulary, Court House, Rotherham, Yorkshire. - Bow- street, August 9. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found at Headington, near Oxford, supposed to have been stolen : a bay nag Horse, about 6 years old, about 14 hands high, star on forehead, white forefeet, the off hind foot white, tail cut square, a small scar on off hip, three small white marks on the back. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, or to Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford.-— Bow- stree', August 18. Stolen on the night of the 15th instant, from the parish of Riston, in the East Riding of York : a dark chesnut Mare, 7 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, strong make, of the nag breed, long switch tail, has not been docked, very good action, has been use to ride and drive, shod on all feet, and goes with the toes turned rather inwards, the property of Thomas Cappleman, farmer. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, East Rtding| Constabulary, Police Station, Leven, near Beverley.— Bow- street, August 18. JAMES NIGHTINGALE, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th instant, charged with stealing a Horse at Oulton, was apprehended at Lincoln, on the llth instant.— Bow- street, August 18. Absconded from Aldershot, on the 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a Horse, Cab, and set of Harness ( since recovered), the property of his master Edward Ayres, of Farnborough : ARTHUR BUTLER, a cab driven about 19 years of age, about 5 feet high, dark brown, . air, no whiskers, thin features, in- kneed, and slightly made ; dressed in a suit of black cloth clothes. He is supposed to be in London. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot, by whom £ 2 reward will be paid on his apprehension and conviction. — Bow- street, August 18. Stolen during the night of the llth instant, from Trinity Place, Borough : a dark brown cob Mare, 14 hands 3 inches mixture Coat; a pair of Trousers, half worn ; a new black j high with brown muzzle ; and a riding Bridle with blue front, Vest, turn- down collar, striped lining ; a pair of elastic side and a Saddle. By a man, 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches higb, Boots, worn down at heels ; a black silk Hat, a little worn ; dark complexion and moustache, and thin ; dressed in blue a small gold Geneva Watch, a long old- fashioned gold guard short jacket, tweed trousers, black deer- stalker hat, of with seals and locket containing photo of lady attached ; a respectable appearance, a Frenchman, and can speak but ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the llth instant: a gold oval- shaped Locket, has a twisted ring round the outer edges, chased, and opens into two compartments. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 16. Stolen from the person whilst travelling from London to Preston, on the llth instant: a brown leather Pocket- book, with elastic band, containing £ 125 or £ 145 in Bank of England Notes, consisting of two £ 20 notes, and the remainder in £ 10 and £ 5 Notes; also four or six blank Cheques, on the Irongate Branch of the City of Glasgow Bank. Stolen from the person at Lewes Races, on the 6th and 7th instant: A single- case silver engine- turned Geneva Watch, with the initials ' J. W.' on outside case. A brown leather Russia leather Cigar Case, containing two £ 10 Bank Cheques. A red leather Pocket- book, containing a £ 10 Bank of England Note, No. 48865. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Brighton Ter- minus, on the morning of the 10th inst. : a gold f- plate lever Watch, gold dial, makers Nennis & Loop, or Nennis & Loof, Tunbridge Wells, No. 10,042. Stolen from the person in Brighton, from the 5th to the 9th instant : A pair of Field Glasses, French make, and have some writing in French on them. A gold plain duplex hunting Watch. A large open- face gold lever Watch, white dial, maker Gardener, Manchester, on inside plate, and a short piece of rrold curb Chain, with four small gold Chubb lock Keys attached. A silver lever Watch, double cases, no glass, seconds hand missing, maker Edward Hawkswortb, Grand Parade, Cork Ireland. gold Toothpick ; and a loaf of Bread : supposed by two men, tramps : one 21 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, fair complexion, brown hair ( no whiskers or moustache), and rather stout figure, dressed in old dark clothes and cap ; the other 18 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, little English.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, August 17. Stolen from a field in the borough of Sheffield, during the night of the 27th ultimo : a dark chestnut Pony, 6 years old, 13J hands higb, white off hind leg, white face, and white spot on back. £ 5 reward. Stolen from a field at Walsal, during the night of the llth : a black Cob, aged, 13 hands higb, blind in the left eye, and broken knees ; and a dark brown Mare, aged, 14| hands higb, slight sore on left shoulder, and medium build, and a ' horse coper.' Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard.— Bow street, August 13, Stolen from a field in the borough of Sheffield, during the night of the 10th instant : a dark cream- colour horse Pony, 13 hands 3 inches high, with short tail; and a bay horse Pony, about 14 hands 2 inches high, stiff in off right fore foot, has been bitten on the breast, and short tail. Stolen on the night of the 5th instant, from a stable in wound' onlheTeft ® ast Park- road, Brighton : two French Mares, one very dark iron grey, 5 years old, about 16 hands high, long tail, rather full hocks, head rather lighter than the body, and has a small crack in front of near fore hoof; the other is light iron grey, 6 years old, about 15 hands 3 inches high, a very dwelling- houses at Alrewas, near Lichfield, Staffordshire, were 1 small wart on the near hiud thigh, the hair slightly rubbed broken and entered, and stolen therein: £ 10 in Gold and Silver ; an old- fashioned German silver Watch, with steel Chain and three Watch Keys attached ; five silver Tea Spoons, marked ' A. S.;' tern Spoons, tbiee Tea, four Table, one Mustard, one Salt, one Sugar, and a pair of Sugar Tongs, all metal ; a gilt Bracelet, with a white stone in centre; a dark Coat and Vest, boy's size; a dark blue cashmere Shawl; a pair of kid Gloves ; a red Pocket- handkerchief, with white spots, border mended with white cotton. Supposed by a man, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender build, thin face, light complexion, and small light whiskers ; dressed in dark coat aud vest, cord trousers, and black billy- cock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Staffordshire Constabulary, Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, August 11. During the night of the 5th inst. the dwelling- house of the Rev. Doctor Bennett at Crudwell was broken into, and about £ 30, chiefly in gold, a £ 5 bank note ( supposed Bank of England), issued by Huddleston, Green & Co., Bury St. Ed- munds ; and two bottles of Tarragona Wine stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent Beauchamp, Malmesbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, August 11. Between 6 p. m. on the 29th ultimo and 10 a. m. on the 4th instant, the dwelling- house of Joseph Newsum, of Rother- off at the place, long mane and foretop, dark tail, and the near fore knee is very slightly chipped. Also stolen on the same night, from a stable near 1he Brighton race- course : a black Mare, aged, about 15 liai ds high, white hind fetlocks, long tail, off fore kuee cut, but the hair has grown over it again, aud very flat fore feet ; a light spring Cart, in a very dirty state, has not been painted for a very long time, ' Sarah Moppett' painted underneath the tailboard, and ' William Moppett' in large letters on the tailboard, and has a seat with leather straps at each end ; a'so a set of light Harness, in pretty good condition, except the back band, which is cracked. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the above property, shall receive a reward of £ 15 for each of the grey mares, and £ 10 for the black mare and cart. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex.— How- street, August 11. Stolen on the 3rd instant from a field near Wood Green Common : a dark brown Gelding, 16 hands high. By a man dressed in a light coat and billycock hat, who was seen riding the horse in the direction of May's- road.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, August 9. JOHN JARRAT, Further information respecting 2 POLICE GAZETTE. August 18 charged with stealing forty- six Sheep from William Overton, of Higgins Wood ( advertised in the Police Gazette of llth October, 1869) : £ 10 reward will be paid for his apprehension and conviction. He is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, dark hair, and is a native of Corwen, North Wales, but has not been there for several years; he has been a soldiers, and is generally employed as a drover and with horse dealers in Wales ; he is well known to cattle dealers in Hereford aud Worcester. Information to be given to Super- intendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeaut Christie, Newport, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, August 9. MKCENT AND IMBmiEMElT, Absconded, charged with embezzlement: FRANK DORCHESTER, 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair and whiskers, and small moustache; he will probably be employed in a cnina or delf warehouse. Information to be given to Superintendent Davies, Canter- bury, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 18. A warrant has been issued at Tunbridge Wells, for the apprehension of JOHN BOAKES, who absconded about 8 p. m. on the 12th instant, charged with embezzling several sums of money, and stealing a white mackintosh Coat, the property of David Boonnan : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, full face, pale complexion, grey eyes, and light hair ; dressed in black cloth coat, dark cbeck trousers and vest, low shoes, black hard Oxford hat, and check Oxford scarf ; he is a journeyman baker, and had with him a white bag, containing his working clothes ; is a native of Maidstone, where his friends reside. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, August 18. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Middlesbrough, on the 16th instant : a black leather Purse, containing £ 1 10s. in Gold and Silver : by a girl, about 14 years of age, thin face, slender figure, and black hair, supposed to be a native of Wales ; dressed in a light wincey dress, bound round with black braid, black straw hat trimmed with brown ribbons ; she lodged at the above house one night and absconded the next morning. Also stolen frcm a locked- up shop in the same place, between the 14th and 16th instant, three Boxes of Mixed Cigars. Information to be given to Head Constable Saggerson, Mid- dlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 18. Absconded from Farnborougb, Hant on the 30th uit., charged on a warrant with stealing a quantity of Straw, the property of his nnster, Mr. William Allden, of Aldershot : THOMAS PERRY, a labourer, late of Cove, near Farn- borough, 27 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark brown hair, bazel eyes, and fresh complexion. Wili probably be found harvesting or working on a railway. £ l0 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aider- shot.— Bow- street, August 18. Absconded on the 7th instant, from Chelsea Market, stealing £ 20 in Gold; a silver lever Watch, a gold Albert Chain, long links, with red Seal and gold Key attached; six silver Tea Spoons; a pair of Sugar Tongs ; and four silk Handkerchiefs. A man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, and dark brown hair ; dressed as a labourer. He is likely to emigrate.— Metropolitan Police, B Divisioi, Auqust 16. Description of a woman who absconded from Sandown, Isle of Wight, on the 6th instant, charged with larceny, as bailee. She represented herself to be the widow of an officer in tbe Indian army, and said she had beeu abroad many years ; was accompanied by her two daughters, aud took two furnished houses, one she had sub- let, the other she had occupied about a month. On the evening of the 5th instant she visited several shops, and in some she gave very large orders, stating that her eldest daughter was shortly going to be married, aud from others she obtained a large quantity of goods, and then went away, taking several boxes with her, without paying the bills. She is from 45 to 50 years of age, middle height, dark brown hair, dark eyes, very dark brown complexion ; dress black, black lace shawl, black bonnet ( red feather. The elder daughter is 18 or 19 years of age, rather short, rather full face, dark brown hair, and has a cast in one eye ; dressed in a brown Holland or light alpaca dress. The other daughter is 13 years of age, rather long full face, with a fresb sear on tip of chin ; dressed iu a brown striped dress. Information to be given to Superintendent Horan, Newport, or to Sergeant Rapkins, bandown, Isle of Wight, who holds a warrant for tbe apprehension of the above woman.— Bow- street, August 16. Description of JAMES OLIVER EWINGS, a tramping tailor, who absconded on the 2ud instant, charged with stealing £ 4 18s. from his lodgings in Newbury : he is about 30 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, blue eyes, light straight hair, parted down tbe centre, small light whiskers, and has a mark of a deep scar on one hand ; dressed in black jacket, with pockets and flips, black vest, moth eaten, brown mixture trousers, and side- spring boots, with tips on heels ; he was traced to Kentish Town, London, and left there on the 3rd instant ; he is known iu London, where he was formerly a bus conductor, and is believed to be a native of Nottingham or neighbourhood. Information to be given to Superintendent Bennett, Berks Constabulary, Newbury, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, August 16. Description of MARY ANN CONWAY, alias BARRY, who is charged with larceny on the 6th ultimo : from 24 to 26 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, good looking, dark hair, proportionate build, high forehead, stoops in shoulders, has a scar on left cheek and neck, which sticks out and is very red, has several other scars near the parting of her hair, and a wound OD her leg below the knee ; she has a child about 1 year old which she constantly carries, and is accompanied by her husband about 5 feet 4 inches high, walks very smart, has a brown tuft of hair on the chin, and is a bricklayers' labourer ; wears a dark suit and cap, and has worked in Wakefield, Barnsley, Middlesbrough, and South Stockton. Information to be given to Superinintendent Hunt, Central Police Office, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street, August 13. Description of WM. ALLEN, of Chesliam, Bucks, labourer, charged on a warrant with larceny, at Iver, Bucks, on ' he 28th ultimo : about 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high , rather stoutfch, red complexion, light whiskers, and very gruff voice ; dressed iu dark jacket, fustian trousers, and black Cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Police Court, Slough, Rucks,— Bow- street, Aug. 13 Description of WALT. PENSON, a chemist's assistant, charged with embezzling £ 35 : 24 years of age, ft feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, sharp features, dark brown hair, slight beard on chin, small moustache, grey eyes, pro- portionate build, walks erect, smart appearance, and a native of Suffolk ; dressed in a dark blue coat and vest, dark check trousers, light overcoat, and white straw hat. He is supposed to be accompanied by a woman about 24 years of age, short stature, good looking, - and of very smart appearance. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Carter, Terrington St. Clement, Kings Lynn, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and by wtom all reasonable expences will be paid.— Bow- street, August 13. Absconded, charged with embezzlement: J. EMMERSON CROWTHER, about 46 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, well built, long face, dark complexion, high mouth, lower lip thick, dark hair and whiskers, turning grey, no moustache ; dressed in dark clothes ; he is a commercial traveller, and was a secretary to the Foresters' Society and other clubs ; he is known to a publican in Hull, and has friends at Durham. Information to be given at the Central Police Office, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire,— Bow- street, Axtgust 13. Absconded on the 31st ultimo, charged ( on a warrant) with larceny: CHARLES VENABLES, a clerk, about 19 years of age, 5 feet high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, thin face, pointed features, pale complexion, and slight build; he is probably dressed in new clothes. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Depart- ment, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- ttreet, August 13. Stolen on the 16th ultimo, from Whitfield- street: a suit of black Clothes. By a man about 27 years of age, short, pale complexion, and of respectable appearance. He paid a deposit on the clothes and requested that they might be shewn him, and during the temporary absence of the owner he went away with the property.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, Auqust 11.
